It was busy at 12:00 pm on Lunar New Year and with a party of 2 we got lucky to get seating at a table. The restaurant was already pretty full and people continued arriving for dine in and take-out. I recommend going early to get seating if you don’t want to wait.It was my first time here and learned that we could just seat ourselves and scan the QR code on the table to order our food.Xiao Long Bao was amazing! Loved that the skin was thin and the soup was so flavorful. Pan fried pork buns were also juicy, soft on top and crispy on the bottom - so good! The beef roll was crispy and had good texture, but keep in mind the beef is cold cut style and not like typical cooked beef. It tasted plain and needed sauce. The shrimp egg and chives pocket tasted delicious, but you could hardly tell there was any shrimp inside.Considering how busy it was, the service was pretty good and the food came out pretty quick! The portions were big for the price you pay. Overall we had a great experience and would come back to dine here again!

Xiao long bao is very authentic. The portion of Lanzhou beef noodles is large and worth the price a lot. Soy bean curd salad is great.

This is our new favorite place for authentic Northern Chinese in San Ramon. The service was fast and friendly. We ordered using our phone though online menu system by scanning the QR code in the table, and the food came in minutes. We ordered pork Xiao Long Bao, Lanzhou Beef Noodle, Ginger scallion noodle, scallion pancake, vegetable dumpling and been roll. The vegetable dumpling was a bit blank for my taste. The other dishes were very good and about 4 out of 5 stars. The price is reasonable and the portion is generous. Well definitely come back again

King of DumplingsThis is our go to place for every weekend. Fairly priced items with best customer service. You get the table in 10 mins and can’t go wrong with the food. Beef dumplings are served piping hot and hot and sour soup are freshly made and now our favorite.

A lovely comfy setting where you eat juice-explosive XLB. Ingredients are great in quality, with seasoning leaning towards the healthy side. Not too oily or salty like some other XLB places. XLB are reasonably similar to DTF. The phone browser ordering system and check out system adds convenience. Only thing to improve is that waiters/waitress need to think ahead of time of service expected. For example, when serving XLB, vinegar and ginger needs to come at the same moment.

Not exactly Dim Sum but you get similar menu and speaking of menu, there is no physical menu handed to you but instead you have to scan it through your phone and that is where you order it. Whether or not you dig into this style for convenience or hygiene purposes, it will be a challenge for those who do not carry a smartphone.

As I was browsing through Yelp restaurants, this one caught my attention as I had never tried and I was in the mood for some xiao long bao (XLB). This place replaced the previous sushi place that I didnt quite like and this establishment was very COVID-ready: Had the menu QR code on the table and you could place an order straight from it. Very convenient as I didnt have to order from the counter and take my sweet time to decide and order. Well, it didnt take me long as I wanted their XLB as it should be one of their signature items. I also like beef rolls so I ordered that as well.I didnt have to wait too long for the food to arrive at the table. The beef roll was up to par. The XLB was pretty comparable to iShanghai Delight so now I have options for XLB in San Ramon. This was a solid place with good food. Im not sure how crowded it usually gets during lunch hours as I came in after 1:30pm. I would come back and I would try their dumpling and pan fried buns.

They know what they are doing. The skin of dumpling, XLB is super thin, hand-made! What an explosion of meat juice from XLB! The best part of green onion pancake is the texture is so gooey and flaky like multi-thin layers dough. Downside is they don’t offer a good selection of chili oil, sauce, ginger that bump up the perfection of flavor, balance. anyway, i would recommend considering that it is located in residential area, San Ramon. Overall, it is ok to me except for poor customer service.

Good authentic taste dumplings! However, $14 for 8 Pcs Xiao Long Bao sounds unreasonable for me. a price reduced by 20-30% may be a more sustainable price.

Price was a bit more compared other XLB places. The pan fried buns were really good, and had a light buttery like crunchy texture. They did not contain as much soup compared to others i’ve tried. I would rate the pan fried a 4/5, the downside is the soup amount. The pork XLB’s have very light and thin skin with very flavorful soup. 4/5 the down side is the slightly higher price than other XLB restaurants in the area. The egg, shrimp, and chive pocket was ok, the chives were a little overpowering in the pocket and there was barley any shrimp, the outside was very good though. 3/5. The service was very good and they had nice outdoor seating. I have eaten many different XLB’s and these are definitely in the top 5, very authentic.I would definitely recommend this place to everyone and I would 100% come back. Amazing experience.

My family and I love Dumpling 85! The food is delicious, fresh, and flavorful. The menu has so much to offer and I’ve loved every dish I’ve ordered. I appreciate that even though I don’t eat pork/beef, there’s plenty of options that work for me. The cucumber salad, fried rice, bao, scallion pancakes, are to die for.Sometimes ordering via a QR code can be a hassle but it is easy at Dumpling 85. The food came out quickly, and again, was phenomenal. I will definitely be coming back and encourage others to as well.

Terrible service. The boss ask for 18% tips at lest. Because we have 6 people on a table. We could offer 20% but they ask for at least 18%. So we are so displeased. . Their tips calculate after the sales tax. It is not reasonable. Never come to this restaurant. Again. The food is not authentic, pricy.

I had to come rate them today due to their inconsistency in rates. We always get Philadelphia roll and add salmon on top. Every time weve placed the order, the extra charge has varied from $3,$5,$7 and today I was told its $8 extra. Im not talking about the price going up with time, Im talking about depending on the person who answers sometimes they would say its $5 extra, sometimes they would say its $7 extra, and today an outrageous $8 extra just to add salmon on top of our Philadelphia roll. I understand that the prices are going up but to be inconsistent is not an answer.Usually orange blossom rolls have salmon in and salmon out, so just to even substitute tuna with salmon, they charge extra.On top of that, they charge extra for spicy mayo too. Everything is extra! Its too bad because we like the sushi a lot here but their customer service and consistency has gone down the drain. We used to go there multiple times a week but now only go if our new go to sushi place is closed.

Really good soup dumplings (XLB). The soup inside was hot, temperature wise, the way I like it. Definitely not a fast place but I rather have the soup dumplings served well than rushed.I did see a lady who looked like she was a server on the phone in one of the dining booths when I came in. She didnt look my way and the kitchen staff had to signal to her and she still didnt look over. A younger man popped out and served me instead and he was great.A tip for the owners: your soup dumplings are very hot temperature wise, its great flavor wise, but you may want to put a warning on your menu and have your staff explain it before people eat it. There will also be a lot of people who may not know there is hot soup inside of the dumplings so use your menus and staff as an opportunity to expand that understanding.

Food was bland and expensive with very little diversity between dishes. There was a very small selection of food aswell. There was a sushi place that opened there that was very good but closed so this place could open. There were 1 or 2 dishes that were pretty good but missing flavor. In my personal opinion the owner should close this place and reopen the sushi place there.

I’m so glad we discovered this place! The ladies were hand making the dumpling while we were there. They had a big bowl of filling and were wrapping it into little pockets. Ginger and Scallion noodle, and shrimp fried rice also tasted like it was made in-house. Pork Xiao long Bao was amazing! This seemed to be a very nice family business. They also had Asahi beer on tap which was a HUGE bonus. What a great beer! Ambiance is a little lacking as it is in a strip mall, but the food makes up for it IMO. So few decent places in this area, so I am so glad to have found it!

Tried this place for takeout, ordered pork, chicken dumplings, wonton soup, siomai, pork bun maybe everything worth $70+ including tip for 2 people. One time is more than enough, taste is bland, not worth it I think. 1 and a half star for the nice people inside. Expensive i think for the product.

Sushi is good. Pick-up doing well. Went at 5:30p and there was a pick-up line out the door the whole time. One hostess. Waited to give order. Two people got water and the others got beer but not until meal arrived, one person at a time - spread over an hour. Everyone ate on their own. Miso soup came after dinner. No second servings on drinks. Overall took two hrs from walking in for everyone to eat. Take-out, not eating in is the way to go.

I am sure if this place had someone working for them that knew what they were doing, there’s a chance they could be successful. They just opened, but the woman taking orders is very incompetent. I stood there waiting for her to take my order, while 3 other people, separate tables, came in and she waited on them before me and brought them their order BEFORE even asking me what I would like to order. I asked what was in the won ton soup and she replied, meat, wontons and vegetables. After waiting 20 minutes, and questioning why people that came in after me were served before me, she brought out my order and handed it to me. I had not paid yet. If it weren’t the fact that I am an honest person, I could have walked out, but I told her I hadn’t paid for my order yet.The wonton soup has no vegetables and no meat, except for the meat in the wontons. I actually did not find any meat in the wontons, just floppy noodles. The shrimp dumplings were VERY doughy.Save yourself some frustration and money and perhaps wait awhile until they get their act together.Terrible customer service and worse food.

They have audacity to randomly charge you extra just because we wanted all yellow tail in our sashimi. Won’t be returning. Sad part is we have spent several thousands in this restaurant during pandemic.Their lost San Ramon has many other good sushi options.

I was in the plaza one afternoon and noticed this new business, so I opened the door, walked in, looked at the menu sitting on the counter. I looked around, there were 3 people sitting around and one guy eating at the counter who looked like he worked there. I asked, Can I place an order he looked up from his food, starred at me a few seconds and said were closed and went back to eating. It was the afternoon, door open and lights on. Im writing this because the guy was not very friendly, didnt explain a thing, nor did he suggest I try them later that afternoon. I have decided to not go back!

The wonton soup, steamed pork dumplings and the xiao long bao are really good! Laid back environment with friendly, fast, and attentive service: Definitely coming back! (Maybe next time I’ll sit at the bar and watch the cooks make the dumplings!)

The rating isn’t for the food but rather because the place treats customers that aren’t of their race differently. I arrived before most people after they opened at 4:30 and everyone that arrived after me got their food and I watched everyone eat exactly what I ordered except I wasn’t their same race.

Dumpling 85 is a worthy competitor to Dumpling Time. Delicious dim sum. Service was quick and friendly. Will be back. Only drawback is limited menu. If you want a fuller menu you probably want to go to Coi Palace or the Mayflower Restaurant.

This place nickel and dimes you - anything you ask for is always extra. Its certainly not made clear on the menu at all. When I questioned the waitress about this, as the extra charge made no sense to me, she became rude and defensive. Very unimpressed. Not a good way for a new business to build a following. Even though I work across the street, I will not go here anymore; the extra fees are exhausting. And, the fish didnt seem very fresh, so its not a big loss. I dont think this place will last.
