Not very recommend if youre not a big fan for spicy food. No many choices for non-spicy food. Also the food in general are very salty and oily. In particular 蒜蓉粉丝虾(garlic shrimp with glass noodle), the shrimp is very small with very few meat, while the glass noodle is super salty.

I really enjoyed a new experience. This place is very crowded but we were able to get a table quickly. The food is fresh, the spices are chosen very well. There are many options to choose from, and you always can order just rice and chicken. However, you might not like some options as there are special plates with pork guts and other intestine things.

First of all, if you are not familiar with how weird Chinese cuisine could be, it’s better not to risk trying some weird things here. My friend ordered pork intestines, I tried a bit of it and it was terrible, I almost puked, can’t believe someone enjoys it.I got some rice with meat thing, it was ok, a bit spicy 🌶️Staff was somewhat inattentive to us, we waited a lot to order and then to get the food.The place interior is simple, nothing fancy.So I would say prices are too high for this ok food and environment

# food poisoningIve been a local in this area for more than five years, and my recent experience at Easterly deeply disappointed me. My partner and I did take out yesterday. Our meal choice being the tripe with tofu. I feel the taste is a bit weird but did not pay too much attention. Unfortunately, it led to a horrendous night. We both woke up at 5 am, suffering from acute abdominal pain and severe diarrhea, clear signs of food poisoning. The food from Easterly was the only common food we consumed in the last dayHaving frequented this restaurant over the years, Im disheartened to encounter such a lapse in what I assumed were strict food safety standards.I urge the management to take this feedback seriously, investigate the hygiene standards and the quality of the food being served. Such an experience is unacceptable and poses a serious health risk to patrons.

I love Hunan and Sichuan cuisine. This place delivered. The Sour Cabbage Fish was the spiciest soup Ive ever had. I remembered asking for mild so my daughter can try it. If that was mild, Ill stick with mild when I come back. Be careful with the Braised Boned Chicken with Tarot Root though. Lots of broken bones. Chew cautiously.

Always come here for great traditional, spicy foods. Owner and staff are great to communicate with. Food has been consistent, albeit less spicy each time I visit - maybe my tolerance is just building up? Definitely explore the flavors of the colorful menu. When we got the lotus and black fungus, I was a bit disappointed because the picture in the menu seems to have snow peas, but there is no snow peas in it. But the disappoinment went away after I tasted it. It tastes really good. Not too greasy nor too salty. When we had the steamed pork ribs in sweet rice, we were almost full. But we still ate lots of it because its so good. Some sticky rice soaked in the rib juice are soft with lots of flavors and the other sticky rice are firm and plain. The combination of them makes this dish perfect! We really enjoyed the food we ordered.We went back the second time, and ordered the steamed pork ribs in sweet rice again. This time we were disappointed because the rice is too hard and the ribs arent soft enough. And the sweet corn is way too soft. So the quality is not consistent. The second dish we ordered is mountain yam stirred fried with wood ears which is pretty good.

Friends recommended this place for a lunch after a good hiking. I was very happy about the choice. It had really good and authentic spices in the Chinese dishes, and especially the eggplants and catfish are must-get ones. The service was good and the owner is very attentive to the needs of the customers. Will come back soon for more awesome foods!

A pleasant surprise! My husband and I stopped here for a quick dinner. We got the shredded pork noodles, clams, spicy beef, dumplings and green beans. All super good. The noodles were by far the best with the clams a hot second place. The clam sauce was soooo good. Highly recommend!

Was so hungry and ordered a chicken soup with rice. Didnt expect what arrive was a big pot of soup for 2-3 guests. Wonder why the waitress never give customer proper heads up. The soup and chicken meat unfortunately taste very bland. Am i suppose to add salt myself? We ordered braised pork and pork rib soup, but there was very, very little meat in it, not a few pieces at all. And the ingredients was not fresh, like leftovers or pre-made dishes. This is a rare combination, a nicely decorated restaurant with open kitchen in a trendy plaza, yet it serves most authentic Chinese food from Hunan province. The degree of spiciness has not been turned down to suite the locals, the chefs came from Hunan are still stick to their traditional more time consuming technique to prepare dishes. If you can handle and enjoy very spicy food, take your opportunity to taste some very best Hunan food. Their menu item has zero to three chilly signs next to them, only 4 to 5 dishes have no chilly. The spicy level is a little bit beyond me and I sweated a lot, but I still enjoyed the dishes so much. They are art of wok. It is very interesting to stand out side the open kitchen to observe chefs flipping food in their woks. It takes long and hard training to master the wok technique and that is the key to produce high quality Chinese dishes.

I was so excited to eat here and get some authentic Hunan! Ive cooked some recipes at home and wanted to go out for an authentic experience. We were given different menus than everyone else, but assumed that itd be ok. It was not. First, our hot tea was served in pint glasses, not the tea pot with actual tea cups. A party of 10 who ordered after us received their meals before us. We werent too hungry and enjoyed looking at the wonderful elaborate dishes they received, excited for ours to come. My husbands meal came a good 10 mins before mine, and no rice was ever brought to our table. Both of our meals were disappointing, and bland. The only time we saw our waiter was when we ordered. We had to flag down another employee to cancel our rice and bring us the check. I felt so upset that we werent offered the same menu items, along with the terrible service that I couldnt even finish my meal.

OMG, you cant make mistakes here, everything you order would be DELICIOUS. Newly opened biz already crowded. The fish is fresh off the water, flavors are on point traditional Hunan style. The only tiny down side is open kitchen, so you might walk out with satisfied stomach and some spicy smell on your clothes. (But the owner said theyll work on it.) (March 4th 2018)Came for dinner again( Sep 30th, 2018). One of the BEST spicy CHINESE restaurant in the San Jose Santa Clara area. Interior design is much better, the menus have both Chinese and English with pictures. The boss is always smiling, along with quick responding staff, great service. Be prepared for uncommon dishes! We walked in not knowing what to expect. We were finding cuisine that included chicken feet and pig Kidneys, which might be great but arent part of our Pallet. We found some noodles and rice and potstickers under staples on the menu.Speaking of menu, we were handed an iPad when we came in, so it took us a minute to figure out how it was laid out. It was just a little impersonal.Im sure it has a lot of draw for folks who dont want traditional Chinese/mandarin food.

I wish I could give this place negative stars. This is by far the worst chit food I have ever had. The chicken dish had so many ground up bones that I couldn’t even see them to take them out. Most of the “chicken “ meat was only discussing skin pieces. The chicken fried rice had absolutely no flavor and the worst part was the $49 I paid for 2 inferior dishes. Very authentic Hunan modern style Chinese food. The decoration and seating is very nice. If you come at week end, be prepared to wait 45 minutes. The 3 flavor eggplant is super delicious. Steamed pork ribs with sticky rice and corn combined the flavor very well. Most of the dishes here are on high level spicy, sometimes they can get too spicy. Will come back to try more dishes.

Reminds me of China. This place has great food. I tried the smoked beef. Properly spicy, and served how it would be in the mainland. They also serve Tsingtao, which is also a taste of China. Ill be back and I cant recommend highly enough. Id you are in the Santa Clara area, go here for lunch.

New Chinese place that opened in the Rivermark plaza, where Yan Can used to be.This place boasts Hunan cuisine, which Im not super familiar with. However, they did have the boiling beef dish which I love, so I ordered that.The dish tastes ok, not nearly as spicy as I thought it should be. The beef was a little tough as well. Probably would still come here if Im in the area to try some other dishes, since there arent other Chinese restaurants in this plaza. Wont order this dish again though.Food alone is probably a 3.5 star, but the restaurant can be a little cleaner. I had to use the restroom and it was slippery all the way there. Then the stall door was a little sticky. Yuck.

Not bad place. I had dinner here with a couple of close friends of mine to catch up with. The place was decent but seriously overpriced and hecka spicy with just about all of the dish on their menu. Staff was very rude. They did not attempt to make us feel welcome at all. We felt like we were rushed. The menu was thrown down in front of us and we were immediately asked what we wanted without any time to actually look at the menu 1st. They did not offer drinks. When they did come back to take me order were very pushy about doing it as fast as they could. Did not want to help answer any questions about the dishes. They brought the food out to us way too fast for it to have been freshly cooked. It was obviously pre prepped and cooked. They never came to ask us if we wanted drinks or if there was anything we needed during our meal. Halfway through our meal they threw the check presenter down on the table and then came through about every 3 minutes staring at the check presenter to see if we had left a card to pay for it. We were not barely halfway through our meal. The food tastes were very good. Unfortunately we felt like we got screwed on the duck. No actual duck meat in the dish. It was all bones fat and skin. My family and I felt like we were discriminated against because we were the only white people inside the restaurant. We were even pointed at and left at at 1 point in time. I will never come back. My family will not go back. And I will start the campaign to let everybody know how absolutely horrible this place is. Save your money if youre looking for any good dining experience.

Authentic Hunan cuisine! They took full advantage of the pandemic and did a great job making online ordering super easy. Their daily specials and limited-time offers throughout the day make it very enticing to order every day! We also buy their Chinese sausages (香肠) and bacon (腊肉) semi-regularly. I wish me and my family could handle more spiciness so we would order takeout from them more often. Recommended with no reservation!

I really enjoyed the food but the people I was with found it to be a little too spicy. Menu is super long and kind of intimidating. It took me a good 10 mins to read through it and the waiter was unable to give me clarification on some of the dishes. It would also be nice if there was some indication of which dishes are spicy. We love this place for authentic food! If youre used to American Chinese food, youll find some dishes at the back of the menu. Dishes are spicy here so mind the pepper rating (one pepper was hot enough for us!). Some of the tables are awkward to sit at because they have a leg right where your knees would be when sitting. Other than that, come early to avoid the line!

I visit this restaurant regularly and the quality of certain dishes are questionable. Sometimes it is tasty unfortunately sometimes it taste like nothing that you will even regret to order it. Beyond a shadow of doubt, one of the worst customer service at a restaurant that I have ever experienced. They ended up serving some raw dumplings to my us. I found out when I bit into a dumpling. Initially, I wasnt going to write anything about this because everyone makes mistakes. If they were able to handle the situation correctly, I would have let it go. Instead, they took back the dumpling, dropped it back into the pot and recooked it. Came back with the original dumplings and said you have one less dumpling because you kept one earlier and well give you a [10%] discount on that dumpling entree ....wait what!?!? ..you mean the raw dumpling I left on my plate when I found out about it. You have got to be kidding me.The way they handled the situation was unfortunate. Dont expect any hospitality coming here.

This has got to be the laziest staff I have ever seen.For two days in a row, we visited after they opened, 30 min later in fact, and I saw the staff sleeping and chilling on their phones in the main lobby area.They have a a sign saying one door is locked, go to the other, then the other door has the same sign, putting you in an “infinite loop”. When we finally caught the lady’s eyes, she told us to check the other door, which she then opened. We asked her when she opened, and she said “now.” It’s like they hate making food.
