The most delicious lomo saltado in south Orange County! I have over looked this place for years and I’m so sad about it but so happy I finally came. The service is exceptional as well! You will not regret coming to El Cortijo! I’m excited to try more plates!

Very unassuming Peruvian restaurant where the food is delicious and the service is great! We were helped by Natalia who was very warm and friendly! Highly recommend the Lomo Saltado, Papá la huanciana, and the Pisco Sour! We went on a Sunday evening for a late lunch to celebrate a birthday and were surprised at the end of our meal by a nice surprise dessert! Thanks for a great meal and we’ll be back!

Update: 11/11/21 -- what a great awesome difference on customer service!!!!! ....new girl Adriana provides great service with a wonderful smile. She got our order correct, was courteous and pleasant. Food continues to be delicious!!!!!2020--Delicious and authentic Peruvian food. Their servings are of good size. Owner is very nice. Hole in the wall places always serve the best food; on the other hand, give them a lil slack on customer service.....there is room for improvement. Plenty of parking in the back and entrance is in the back too.

First time ar this place. My first thought that the pricing its a little bit high, but when looking at the portion of the fried chicken breast and noodles, well its very well portioned ( a little too much for me). The taste of the basil/spinach sauce its pretty good as well as the taste of the large piece of chicken. The little green spicy sauce its pretty flavorful as well. I will definitely recommend this place. Its a little jewel hidden in Santa Ana. Love it!!!

I bought the rotisserie chicken and had rice and beans for sides for my family meal. I was very disappointed with this meal, the beans were stale, the rice was dry, the chicken had way too much black pepper, I ended up with a stomachache. I honestly dont recommend the chicken here. Also, heads up, they charge a 3.99% fee of your purchase for using your credit or debit card.

We ordered leche de tigre and linguine saltado which took too long to bring the food because the waitresses were outside the restaurant chatting leaving the cook alone. They charged me $16 for a little box of pionono, there on the receipt it says open food. When my wife gets home, she calls the restaurant because she thinks its a mistake (since the same pionono box in the Peruvian restaurant Aires del Perú is $7.95) the person who answers tells her thats the price and If you dont like it then return it. My wife was very disappointed in this place. We wont be back anymore!

I must say this is the worst Peruvian meal I have ever had.The lomo was tough, chewy and way too salty, not to mention theundercooked rice.The ceviche was not fresh and flavorless.The prices are outrageous and I recommend staying away.The staff is hospitable but it doesnt compensate for the subpar food.Please do yourself a favor and stay away unless you want to feellike youve been ripped off and leave hungry.

Ambiance was great, food not so much. It was like someone who doesnt know anything about Peruvian food was cooking. No anitcuchos avail on the menu, Chicha Morada tasted like water with purple coloring, meaning super water down and with minimal flavor. Papa a la Huancina we couldnt eat, it wasnt even the right color yellow and tasted disgusting on top of it. The tallarine verde, the chicken was tasty but a little dry, yet the sauce was terrible! It was missing something for sure and it tasted like the wrong cheese was used. It was a pesto type sauce but not tallarine verde. The Ceviche was delicious, that we shared since the papas were so bad, but the ceviche was sooo good. And the rotisserie chicken was alright.

Ive been around the block when it comes to Peruvian food. Being Mexican myself, it feels blasphemous to say just how much I love Peruvian food. I have been everywhere from San Francisco, Boston, Dallas, and Miami trying out Peruvian spots because as we all know, every house cooks with a different recipe. THAT BEING SAID, if you know how Peruvian food is, you KNOW what Lomo Saltado is supposed to taste like. Man oh man, have I had some bad Lomo Saltado. After moving to Southern California and trying 3-4 different Peruvians spots, I almost gave up because I just wasnt satisfied. So here we are today, giving Peruvian in the area one last shot, and I come across El Cortijo. I decide hey, 30 minute drive there and back, if its good food I know itll be worth it; so I set off on my journey for a decent lunch.Upon getting here, Im able to tell just how good this place is because of the smell. Theres an unmistakeable, mouth watering, mind controlling smell about good Peruvian food. I get further in, and Im pleasantly surprised that I can actually see the kitchen, meaning I KNOW theyre not reheating food in a microwave, not using old ingredients, or serving me yesterdays food. I ordered my Lomo Saltado, steak of course, and got to sit and talk with the staff. Let me tell you, this place feels like home. It really feels like I walked into my Tias house and Im waiting for her to get done cooking. The staff is so incredibly nice, but theyre also HUMAN. None of that fake customer service happiness you get in a chain restaurant.But on to the food..... I dont even know how to express just how good it is. I cant get over how good my lunch just was. This is everything Ive been missing for the last three years, my hungry belly never being satisfied, going from place to place just looking for a decent steaming plate of SALTADO. Im a bit of a cook myself, and I know when I taste a recipe thats so good I have to ask for it, and I had to ask within TWO BITES, what the heck is in this thats so good?????? The staff informed me there is a special ingredient in their arsenal, something so simple yet so powerful in a flavor palette that Im upset for never thinking of it. I wont tell, you have to come in and ask for yourself!The entire experience here was already a 10/10, but then I got to know the staff over my meal. I came to discover that my waiter was a cook himself, had been dreaming of a place of his own since he was a kid. Then, I found out they had something new and special available, something they were still testing with the locals and getting a feel for how they like it. After some investigating, I learned MY WAITER came up with the recipe. Something personal, that hes been working on by himself for years. I knew I had to try it.Let me tell you..... I have never tasted a more succulent, flavor filled, satisfying bite of chicken. This chicken has been roasted and marinated in some sort of sorcery, because I had to get one to go to take home to my picky boyfriend, the kind that doesnt even want to look at a tomato let alone get cilantro on his tacos or beans with his burrito. AND HE LOVES IT. This lets me know that this is a FAMILY FRIENDLY PLACE. Even for picky eaters! Something delicious for everyone!Please for the love and respect for yourself and your taste palette, try this place out. They have luckily been floating during the pandemic, but they deserve so much support from the community. I drove from Irvine and Ill continue to do so! Did I mention FULL BAR? Did I mention OPEN UNTIL MIDNIGHT????? Hands down. Just go. Lose yourself in the flavor, and feel gravity working extra hard to keep you in that seat eating, because I really have no idea how I was able to stuff so much knowing I was so full. Im gonna tell my grandkids about this place.

Off the chain! I go here probably 3 times a week. The reason I come here so often is because the food is very fresh. If you have fresh, quality food then ill be at your restaurant. You would be surprised how many of your favorite spots use poor quality ingredients. Thanks guys!

I tried the lomo saltado and the chicken saltado here, unfortunately the cuts of meat had lots of tendons and weird texture that took away from the dish. The taste aswell seemed a bit off. The green salsa was great though.

Terrible!!They don’t answer phone calls ever! And if you try to order on Uber eats your order will get cancelled if they don’t feel like working. Their listing will say they’re open but they won’t ever process an order or answer the phone. This has happened to me and my friend on 2 different occasions.
