What a neat concept! We were in the area visiting Nece’s gluten free bakery — and we were drawn to the logo of a bear and the word “uncommon” below the icon. Walking in we were struck by the floral creations and the curated homewares that would make GREAT gifts. The aisles of packaged goods are nicely laid out — really appreciate the selection of items, many which were new to us. Wish we had known that there was a gluten-free breakfast burrito available earlier in our stay. Also appreciated the coffee bar and smoothie bar. The bakery items looked so delicious and fresh — though none were gluten free, I can always appreciate the creations.

Love the curation. They mark the different brands with tags if they’re women or AAPI or other minority businesses. Also lots of local businesses carried inside too.There is hot food and fast lunch inside plus a drink bar where you can get coffee and assorted drinks.Plus a bulk foods section!!

I love this place for all my gourmet food needs, they always have kind clerks and I often get lost in all the cool products on the shelves. If you need unique culinary ingredients- probably come by here and check. They even have specialty fresh foraged mushrooms, microgreens and a ridiculously extensive selection of local veggies, spices, beers, etc. Its like a farmers market in a …. brick and mortar market? Haha there are also delicious deli counter options, and a cafe. Yes, it is pricey, its gourmet baby. But carries a ton of local and I love that!

I think I just drank the best hot latte of my life here. Chloe (?) made it. I think that was the name. Delicious.I always find something delicious from their deli to eat and have spent waaaay (like thousands) on their sundries over the years. To be fair they do sell anise pastilles and great coffee for road trips in the Airstream too.

Is it possible to fall in love with a market, because I think I just did.From their incredible selection of local produce: figs, shallots, micro greens..; to the vast selection of freshly cooked foods, side dishes, salads, desserts, at the deli counter; to their selection of handpicked local and natural wines; Elroy’s is exactly what the Monterey community has needed.I look forward to every trip to this market and I’ll be working my way down their sandwich menu over the coming weeks. If the rest are as good as their “Charcuterie Sammie” I’m in for a treat.Support local businesses, shop Elroy’s.

Definately has gone downhill since opening—hot foods the same daily and few veggie options—no more creativity, and glass doors to produce etc filthy dirty all the time as is bathroom. Miss the original raw desserts and dishes made.

We went to see what this store was all about. Interesting specialty type store. Decided to try one self serve sweet. While waiting in line at checkout I noticed an apparent manager take 2 individual pastry sleeve bags from the other cashier. Turns out a customer filled the bags with sweets at the self serve area, got to the counter and decided not to purchase the items. Both manager & clerk sniffed( closely) the 2 bags. Manager then put one cookie back into the cookie jar. She’d decided what flavor it was by then. The second bag she couldn’t decide. I had no idea if it was a cookie, scone, bread, etc. Then I saw her touch items in the bag, in order to identify these items. Smelled them, picked one up with her hand and placed it in the cookie jar —- for sale! She was not wearing gloves. Then smelled and touched second item and added it to the cookie jar. I was astounded watching this— thinking of all the health dept regulations she had just broken. OK. The cookies are huge, really big and about $4 or so, but guessing which cookie it is (1) and (2) placing them back in a “for sale” cookie jar after being touched by the her, and apparently the first customer who thought they’d purchase them just to recoup the maybe $10-$12 was too much for me! I made a comment that I couldn’t believe she replaced them in the cookie jars and she said the customer changed their mind. What if she “guessed” wring on the type of cookie? People have allergies! It was not a sanitary move. I could not believe what I witnessed to save a few dollars for the store!! I won’t ever be back. This was all visible to customers.

I dont know what I would do without this little grocery store. Thank you Chloé, youre a rockstar! Elroys elevates the standard for quality, sustainably-sourced food by lightyears. Not only do all of their products -- ranging from produce to frozen and prepared meals -- contain only the highest quality, cleanest ingredients, but the producers are respected as well. Brands are researched thoroughly to make sure theyre local (when possible), sustainable and supporting community initiatives.I personally am willing to pay more for all of this value both for me, the environment and the folks who lovingly produce our food. Its the true cost of food done right and Im glad someone is providing it for our community!

We love coming to Elroys but I am hesitant to come back after today. Today an off leash dog was in the parking lot directly in front of the store, owned by an old man in a black BMW who seemed to be affiliated with the store in some way with a relationship with some of the employees and the cleaners next door. It seems he was affiliated with the business? Anyways, he was dismissive when I asked him to do something about his off leash dog. He let it continue to be off leash outside for a while after and told me to go ahead and call the police. I felt unsafe. I hope genuinely that Elroys cares about their customers feeling safe and I am feeling hesitant to come back knowing this man is here frequently and is close with the staff, and is letting his dog roam around like this. Ive also seen people in the store with pet dogs that are clearly not service animals. I have a severe allergy to dogs and cannot be in the same building as them, so I hope this will change too.

I really like this new store, the fresh fish is absolutely the freshest and best tasting Ive bought in this area, great produce from local farmers, prepared foods are restaurant quality, and they have a coffee and smoothie bar, I could go on, check it out!!

I am hot for Elroy’s fine foods. In communities I’ve lived in previously I would end up popping into roughly 4-5 different grocers for specific items but I can find and feel good about really any purchase made here. I’m talking a beautiful locally sourced, thoughtfully curated selection of products made with clean ingredients. Organic produce, wonderful bulk section, ethically sourced meats and dairy, bottle return deposit on milk, plastic free cleaning items, feel good skincare ingredients with thoughtful packaging. All of the mindful, sustainable choices, the good music, the flowers, baskets, adorable little lip balms in cardboard packaging and the cute staff made me want to say, “Hey Elroy’s, thanks for thinking of me. I love you too.” Also, you can get delicious, ready made food if you’ve spent too much time ogling products and are too late to start dinner. You can drink a beer while you shop. I’m very happy here.

Elroys Foods is consistently better than any restaurant on the Peninsula, even better than my own. We have done a lot of take-out food over the years, but no more, we go to Elroys once or two times every single week. I feel like kissing the floor as we leave.🌹To top that off, every single staff person is outstanding!Bravo!! We love love Elroys!

I wanted to buy a bottle of water for my dog after our walk and couldnt find 1 bottle.Lots of overpriced items such as a glass bottle of organic milk for 12 dollars.I can see why they had no customers in the store.

Its so refreshing to be able to shop at a grocery store knowing all of the food is organic, safe from harmful chemicals and additives and absolutely delicious. I love that Elroys sources locally and from small businesses whenever possible. I would much rather spend my money here than at a restaurant where the ingredients are questionable.

You’ve gotta respect someone who opens a grocery store across the street from a Whole Foods. It’s not that big, but they have a great selection. We’ve had sandwiches from there, we regularly buy almond butter (Enzos), and they get bread from Ad Astra. Plus they have a bar area in the idle of the store that serves wine and coffee. We haven’t done that yet but we plan to soon. Highly recommended, check it out.

I really like Elroys. Friendly, a great selection, and a clean, pleasant shopping environment. I purchased some lovely 🌈 popcorn here the other week. Yes, its expensive, but everything is sehr gut. Theres only one problem: please, please, please install bicycle racks! Gas prices are rapidly increasing, global warming is wreaking havoc and your so-called eco-market -- and indeed entire shopping center -- has nowhere to accommodate a bike. Hopefully you can make this happen? Otherwise, I fear your cute bicycling bear mascot may pedal off to greener forests.

Great location for organic, local, and non-gmo produce, meats, and fish. While the pricing on some items you can find elsewhere might be higher here and there, it’s worth supporting this vital business. Where else will you find local porcini when I season? The wine selection could be improved (suggest more sub-$25 selections), but there is a great assortment of natural wines and other rarities you seldom find outside of NY, SF, or LA. Staffing has always been helpful, courteous, and knowledgeable.

Great customer service. They have amazing and unique food options. A place where everyone can find something theyd like. You can pick up items that are ready eat or groceries for later. They have a beverage station with I unique drinks. I tried the one with match and it was delicious. Be sure to check out their section where you can buy bee pollen, dried fruit, grain, and so much more by the ounce/pound. This is definitely a place to get inspiration to eat better, healthier, try new foods and recipes.

Monte Vista Market its not....If you are looking for a gourmet, mini Whole Foods, this is your place. You can spend a lot of money, get a $15 sandwich, and be very underwhelmed. The food is good, the prices are sky high. This place would be right at home in Carmel. Maybe even across from the Lodge?For everyday kind of needs or even for something quick you forgot at the last minute, Elroys doesnt fit the bill. Tourists: have fun and spend spend spend! I miss Monte Vista Market....

CELIAC/GLUTEN FREE FRIENDLY :)Was trying to go to the morning dove bakery for a gf cinnamon roll and a coffee but it was closed, so we popped into Elroy’s because it looked so cute and inviting! Such lovely space, light, atmosphere and employees. The oat milk they use for coffee is Pacific, so not gluten free, but they did have pretty good almond milk. We found a breakfast burrito with a gluten free tortilla and I was able to ask if it was cooked separately from gluten filled tortillas. The lady behind the counter assured me that it was safe from cross contact, as she cooks the GF burritos before the flour ones. I haven’t had a reaction yet so I think we’re in the clear! It was a pretty good burrito too, maybe needs a lil hot sauce but I haven’t had a burrito in years so I was happy!! They also had some pastries made with oat flour, but I didn’t eat them or ask about their contamination status. They also had a GF mini frittata which looked really good. Takeout items are labeled with a cross contamination disclaimer, but I’m sure you could ask them about specific dishes’ safety. Tons of GF options in the grocery too, including Jack’s Paleo cookies, simple mills, Siete products, jovial pastas and more! Definitely worth a stop, it’s a beautiful place!

I’m very happy a new and local market with local products was built here in our neighborhood. I understand with a small local business and local products the prices would be higher. However, I ordered one of their small smoothies for $10 and the size was VERY small for $10. The smoothie was good but I was very disappointed with the size considering how much it costed. Hopefully as they get more customers they will lower prices a bit or I won’t afford to be able to keep shopping here.

This place is great! Stayed in Monterey and was looking for a nice market that wasn’t Whole Foods. Good coffee and a hot bar with breakfast and lunch, and one of the best smoothies I’ve had. If I were local, I’d definitely do my shopping there.

Dont but their soups the chicken tortellini taste sour they suck the chicken bbq tri tip ate pretty good not insane cost if you value quality. Still the time of those items cooked are hours from when you eat it. I suggest early hours if you like freshness idk if they wait tho Ill check it a couple days in the morning if they wait till lunch time to put out all the entrees. I hope I see them put the brand new cooked food out as its done if not Ill report back and say they are taxing the consumers choices all grocery store seem to practice this so I hope elroys provides freshly cooked food to be sold while most want to wait hours to discourage the customer

Every person who works at this establishment is welcoming and helpful. They offer great assistance picking out wine or answering any questions about products. The fresh food served daily as well as all of the finger licking desserts are the best part!!! When Covid isnt a thing, you can buy a bottle of wine and sit out back and enjoy socializing with friends.

Took the day off with wife and went to Monterey, played on the dunes, walked around the wharf, stopped for late lunch at ElRoys and drove to Carmel.We were pleasantly surprised even tho the sandwich menu was limited: roast beef, veggie, chicken & 2 others I cant remember, my chicken salad sandwich with avocado on sourdough slices was BIG and tasty and soup du jour chicken with rice hit the spot altho it could have used a pinch of salt IMHO. We also tried the mac n cheese served cold but I asked for it to be heated. Nice tangy cheese combo, but we like ours to be creamy and this was not. The elbow noodles were not over cooked! A little pricey (Monterey after all).All in all, a nice lunch on a beautiful day spent touring around the Bay.

UPDATE: Customer service is the hallmark of Elroys Fine Foods! My husband is on his way back from Eureka after several weeks fighting fires in the region. On his way back to Monterey, his only request was for a six-pack of Booch Craft, although his favorite (watermelon chili) is a seasonal flavor, they did have the Lemon Maple flavor. I hauled over the hill to Elroys just before closing, and Z was waiting with the six pack, and with sincere grace, I was gifted pack for my husband. Namaste to Elroys with joy!

Ive never not bought something because of price until I went to Elroys. I thought wholepaycheck (wholefoods) was high, but didnt mind. If Elroys had great options, I wouldnt mind. Just average. Some items you cant find else where. Jeromes in the village is way better for a specialty market.

Went to deli & what a joke..$14 for a chicken put in a box with brown paper around it..no plate but we did get utensils..very difficult to eat..however the chicken was good..no bread or anything!!! I will think twice to eat there again!!

This might be my favourite grocer ever. I wish it was in LA so I could do all my shopping here all the time.They have a fantastic range of gluten free foods, both packaged and hot and freshly made foods - something that is not common! Their freshly made foods are all incredible and I can’t recommend it enough.Move to Laurel Canyon maybe?
