Super nice service. French food is always expensive here, but this one is decent I suppose. Interesting variety of dishes. Nice decor. Good location. Be aware that parking is not free if you park in the garage underneath. You need to park further down the street in the parking house. As usual, half the calories went missing for artistic purposes -> good for all kinds of dietists.
New French/Vietnamese fusion restaurant in DTSJ.Ambience is good for a date, but food is mediocre and service needs improvement (like most new restaurants). Kobe pho and spring rolls were alright, but you can probably get the same thing for much cheaper at a Vietnamese restaurant.
All the food was fantastic, and the service was very attentive. Recommend getting the Shaken Filet and the Sea Bass.

The food was just ok. My mashed potatoes were runny, and the roast was just ok. My friend ordered pho and didnt like it. The others ordered salmon and loved it though.
Good restaurant for a date night- decor is very nice and has somewhat romantic lighting. The salad nicoise was a great portion and super tasty. The braised short ribs were so tender that it fell off the bone and reminded us of Vietnamese beef stew. 100% recommend this place!
A nice atmosphere. Good customer service. A reasonable wine list, if you’re into that. The beer menu is fairly short. The food is a bit overpriced for what it is. But maybe not for San Jose?
Me and My boyfriend we order the Sea food Trio in Bisque Sauce, Lamb Chop, and Passion Fruit Mango Mousse and they were pretty good!

Being generous here w 3 stars. They were literally out of half of their beers. Their appetizers and main entrees were ok w extremely small portions. The best part of the whole meal was the cocktails and desserts. Would Not return, was worth a try I suppose.
Went with friends for a birthday, we had fries as an appetizer and it was great, I had lamb chop with ratatouille as my main dish, after the long wait everyone at the table as well as me were surprised by how small it was, it was 90% bone and 10% lamb, nevertheless I hoped it would be tasty, it was cooked as I expected but unfortunately it was very bland. Overall it was overpriced and not worth it, great fries though.
The grilled oysters, seafood trip, and lava cake are divine. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend!
With three small kids we don’t go out that often. Today we bit the bullet and went for dinner. It was fantastic! The ambience the friendly staff, the outstanding food (try the shrimp and chicken starters). The tuna salad was great and I could go on and on!!

Truly deserves five stars! Let me start by saying how amazing the staff was.. they were sweet, friendly and made us feel welcome.We got seated right away and our server came and told us about when the kitchen closes etc so we could get our order in in time. We got the shrimp ceviche, mushroom Tartlette, the Sea bass with bok choy and couple of cocktails. The strawberry mule and the Mezcal drink (cant remember the name) were amazing! I can tell that the bar tender really knew what he was doing with the right amount of concentration of every ingredient! How amazing!We didnt order too much food, only because we wanted to save some room for dessert and so glad we did. We got the Belgian Tiramisu.. oh boy! What deliciousness and I loved that it had a nice twist compared to regular Italian tiramisu which also I love deeply. Overall we had a great time here. Food, ambience, drinks and service were top notch!One of my recommendation for everyone coming here would be please reserve some extra time for parking. There are a few lots near by but its a small walk so keep some time for that. Highly recommend Yelpers to come check it out!

Mediocre cocktails. I ordered a basic old fashion, which was served with tons of ice, I asked the bar tender about the ONE SINGLE appropriate ice cube - he strained my drink to pour it in the appropriate ice cube, by then my drink was watered down, he was just too lazy to make it right the first time. My friend order a cocktail and it was less than mediocre. The salad nicoise was not good. The dressing was more like a balsamic and oil. The Brussel sprouts were REALLY GOOD. The salmon was cooked perfect but the risotto was a joke (not done and tasteless). The seabass was cooked fine, but the sauce was plain and salty, and lastly the steak, it was tough but cooked to the temperature specified, BUT it lack any flavor due to under seasoning. The coffee was great, but you can get this at many places. The wine selection was ok. All in all, a place you can skip, too bad because we were excited about the Viet/French fusion.
We had the short ribs and sea bass. We preferred the sea bass -- light, good flavors. Loved the creme brulee -- wed return here just for that. Service was super.
One of the best tasting restaurants in Bay Area! Good prices. We loved everything we ordered. Unique, flavorful, should have a michelin star. The cook put their heart into the dishes.The service was great too. We just wish it was located in more peaceful area to match their amazing food and not in the middle of San Jose downtown next to vta. However the interior atmosphere was very nice.
I’ve been here twice now and have really found everything to have wonderful flavors and well cooked. The lamb chops and rib eye are both fantastic. I also enjoyed the pork and shrimp spring rolls. I ordered the seafood trio as well and was told the salmon was recommended to be served a bit pink but was actually served overdone and dry (might have been sitting under a lamp waiting for us to finish our starters?). The seafood course was also incredibly small when compared to other mains of equal price (i.e. rib eye, etc). I would recommend this place but just be aware the portions can be rather small (hit and miss).

When you have the blinds closed you cannot see anyone in the restaurant when walking past. We almost assumed it was closed.
It has very tasty foods. I like the main dishes with beef ribs. I tried a tiramisu as a dessert which was very interesting. It has bar and its drink was made professionally.Great place for special occasions.
It’s a pretty good restaurant. Lovey ambience.But menu is not wholesome! I checked online their menu and found couple of chicken and salmon options. But when I arrived at restaurant, they changed the menu. Chef does that frequently.So I would recommend calling them beforehand and ask them for their menu, else you might end up with very few options to pick from!And also, they have only handful of dishes in menu. So…. Do the needful!
Excellent food. We had the meatball and spring roll appetizers, which were excellent. My son had the seafood trio, which he called the best thing hes eaten all month, and I enjoyed my Nicoise said a lot. The lava cake is over if the better ones out there, two. Easy access to the pavilion parking lot, too.
I really enjoy my experience every time I visit. The decor/ambiance is top notch (something that IMO is lacking in downtown San Jose). The menu is actually convincing fusion. The food itself is very high quality, and you can tell that they use quality ingredients.They also offer cocktails, which are good but on the pricey side. I think the restaurant is great for a date or a nice dinner. Oh, and the staff is very friendly, with a sense of humor.

Had a fantastic, delicious meal. First time there, true to the name it was Vietnamese French cuisine. I definitely will go back it was very very good and the wine selection was excellent. Peeked at the other plates served to customers and already know what I want for my next visit - meal and the one after that!

Great spot in downtown SJ. Little bit odd location/area... I dont know downtown San Jose that well, but it wasnt a very inviting street/atmosphere. But inside the restaurant the ambiance was lovely. Appetizers were fantastic: pork 🐖 belly bao (Chinese bun) was yum (great spicy sauce), Mushroom 🍄 puff pastry was to die for.Fantastic Scotch based cocktail, perfectly balanced.There is a menu option to ask the bartender to create/make a particular cocktail for you. They made one of the best Aviation cocktails (not on menu) ever! So happy!Glazed Sea Bass entre was unique, sweet glaze 4-4.5 ⭐. Ribeye Steak was great, some sort of Asian/Korean BBQ seasoning with mushroom demogloss on side + yum yum scalloped potatoes. 5⭐.Our server seemed more like a manager with his presence and wine and food knowledge. Super attentive and helpful! Would definitely go here again.
Everything we had was very good. I had Short Ribs. Perfect. My wife had Sea Bass. She loved it. We shared an app, veg, and dessert. All good. Service was friendly and professional.
We went in after a wedding rehearsal, so there were a good number of us. They had the table set up and all, and the place wasnt crowded at all. There were probably people in two or three other tables.The people working there seemed very friendly and attentive. Never had to wait for water refills.Best part was the food. I tried the chicken wings, the crab noodles, and the chocolate dessert thing, that I forgot the name of. All of the items were fantastic! Including the chicken wings - and chicken wings isnt a Viet - French food item, as far as I know. The crab noodles thing had real crab meat, and smelled oh so good.They also have a really good drinks menu. Found this interesting Einstök ale (called the Icelandic Wee Heavy). Apparently a Scottish ale, that tasted yummy.
Mushroom appetizer had a good marinade but served cold. Lamb chops also had a great sauce but were served medium-well when ordered medium rare. Disappointing experience, especially for the $$
On vacation from the Midwest. This was an exceptional meal. The staff was very attentive and helpful with any questions I had about the menu. The meal presentation was as if I were in a five star restaurant. This establishment would make a great place to meet with friends and family for a sensible price. This is the first review I have written and I think it is well deserved.
The food is really delicious here and the service is great. I recommend trying them out if youre looking for some delicious food to eat.

Stellar Francais-Viet food here. I went as part of a large group and we had a more French leaning smaller menu. Everyone was happy with the food, service, and wine list options and prices. I particularly liked the Speculoos (Belgian gingerbread) tiramisu, soft shell crab and ribeye steak. The Belgian chef is great. The rest of the staff are attentive and French and Vietnamese owners are present and friendly. We stayed late on a Tuesday night and shut the place down. We never felt pressured to leave and Christophe, the owner, struck up a friendly conversation but didnt dominate our time when we needed to talk biz. Truly a faultless dinner and evening. Ill be going back with family and friends, and would recommend this place in an instant.
Elyse was the first restaurant I chose when lesser CV19 restrictions announcement for my hot date with my smoking wife and gorgeous daughters. The ambiance was just right, not too casual, but fancy enough to wear something a little more elegant. Owner Christoff (sp?) was a waiter who made our experience more special with his French accent. Started off with appetizers grilled shrimp, Taco Bahn Xeo and Tangy Wings, which were easily polished off....no complaints! Both daughters had Shaken Filet Mignon, wife ordered Braised Short Ribs while I had the Sea Bass. All prepared in perfection with ample size for us. Again no complaints since plates were practically empty. Creme Brulee and Lava Cake for dessert, topped of with Christoffs own private label scotch which was beyond the flavor Ive had before. Overall, the experience was impeccable and looking to our next visit back to Elyse.
Our reservation was changed last minute but all turned out ok. Ambient is cozy, food was deliciously well prepared. Owners were very welcoming. Nice place.

A hidden gem in downtown San Jose. The location isnt convenient but its worth finding parking to get to this restaurant. It checks all the boxes with great atmosphere, impeccable customer service, and flavorful food and cocktails.
Just attended a private event there. The food was exceptional and the service was good. For a catered event Elyse rocked. I would imagine their regular food is even better. I would definitely encourage you to try them. Lots of (paid) parking in the area too.
We enjoy eating out. Yesterday we went to this fine restaurant which we didn’t know before. We spent a delightful experience there with delicious cooking and a nice stuff and a professional cuisine. We put this venue in our phone list and we will no doubt go again very soon. We warmly recommend.
Portions left something to be desired.Lava cake had no lava, tiramisu was mostly cream. I do not recommend the desserts. Cocktails were very well made.

Neat little restaurant in San Jose. Not quite as fancy as the name implies. I was there early evening on a Wednesday and it was pretty quiet. Food was good. Ate two appetizers which were good but since I dont remember them a week later, not memorable. Friendly service.
In San Jose on business. Honestly the best meal I have had in a long time. Wait staff super friendly. Had beef short ribs and could not have been better. I am sad that I cant come back all of the time.A year later and still great. I look forward to eating here when I am in the area. Great friendly staff and a wonderful meal.

Lamb chops were good. Vegetarian spring rolls were typical and nothing special. Garden salad was good. The garden salad and the lamb chops were on the salty side. The lamb chops at medium rare were perfectly cooked but was quite fatty.
Five of us dined here on a Friday night. From apps to dessert we all exclaimed over our meal. The braised short rib fell off the bone, the steak was perfection and the coq au vin was a triumph. Our waiter suggested a few terrific wines that paired perfectly. The Malbec and Sav Blanc were fab.Desserts were equally delish - the tiramisu (charmingly served in a cup) and the mango selection were just the finish we wanted.As a huge plus, they accept reservations - something thats getting more difficult to find. And because we arrived during happy hour our wine was a bargain!We would, without question, make the drive again - Alameda to San Jose in traffic and worth every minute of it. Well done Elyse!
Nice atmosphere, relaxing vibe, and good overall experience. Totally removed from the hustle and bustle literally on the other side of the window pane. Trains, people pass by outside but things keep pace inside. And if you happen to be sitting at the bar it can slow down even more.
Don’t know why this place is rated so highly. Food is average at best and entrees are expensive. Had lamb chops and wipe had coq au vin. Hen was dry and lamb was small portion and tough, and smothered in sweet sauce. Avoid if you want good food. Oh and “ they just ran out” of decaf. Yeah. Sure.
Nice french restaurant with asian touches. The food seems to be french with asian influences. The service was very attentive. The atmosphere is nice. The menu is not very long and posted outside.For lunch there are bento boxes with salad and neat accompanied by rice or noodles and a very nice dessert. They also have pho and sandwiches. I had a catfish with lots of sauce.
This is wonderful restaurant. The food is inventive, beautifully presented and delicious. The bartenders, wait staff and everyone that works at Elyse is friendly, professional and does all that is possible to make your experience special.
Partially success with food. We had prefixed meal. Mushroom pastry was very good, but soft shell crab overfried. Lamb was good, but steak undercooked, rattatulle was very good, but Brussels sprouts were overfried and drenched in oil. Desert : berry something wayok, but chocolate mousse was ridiculously big and not so good.

We had a large group set price dinner here and everyone could not stop talking about how good the food was! The staff is so nice and helpful and the price is way below the going rate. Parking is a bit difficult, but I will definately come back.
Appetizers were fantastic - wagyu carpaccio, salmon tartare, soft shell crab, meatballs. The seared salmon was simply good. The tiramisu dessert was lacklustre, but everything overall quite good.

After a long search for a place to eat, i was able to convince my gf to give this place a second chance. We ordered wine and an appetizer to start. The appetizer came out on time and was delicious. When we ordered our dinner they did not tell us of the long wait. We waited close to an hour for our food to arrive.Dinner was absolutely disgusting. My gf ordered the filet mignon but instead got some cubed steak cuts with a lot of fat and tendons. It was definitely NOT filet mignon. I ordered the rib eye steak and instead received a burnt coal skirt steak.Overall impression is that elyse masquerades as an upscale bistro but serves low quality vietnamese cuisine. I shouldve listen to my gf when she said the food quality is not that great but I insisted on going there. Never again. Rather go to the many other Vietnamese spots and spend way less.
The desert was a waste of calories. The noodle soup was good, but you could tell it was coming from a pre packaged noodle cup or something. Dont regret the wine though :)
Made reservations Late September, 2018 and half the items werent even on the menu. Wait staff was a mess. Hopefully they eventually get it together. If not, oh well. Food wasnt that great either.

I ordered the short ribs which were cooked perfectly. I thought it was a little bit bland but it might be my own ignorance to what French cuisine is supposed to taste like. My boyfriend got the ribeye with mushroom sauce and, again, the sauce was amazing. So flavorful and delicious!!!The tiramisu was a bit of a disappointment. No lady fingers and perhaps no amaretto???The service was incredible though and I love the ambiance of the place. Super cute! Its a great date night spot.

Really enjoyed the decorations and overall ambiance, but what stood out the most was the service. Very friendly and attentive staff that were focused on making sure you had a nice evening. Spring rolls are ok on their own, but are really elevated by the spicy mustard sauce. Mushroom Tartelette was flaky and light - good for a small appetizer. Steak and veggies were nicely done.

Nice interior, although a few curtains would help soften some of the hard surfaces and lessen the sound bouncing everywhere.Staff were very friendly and courteous. We look forward to dining here again.

2023-11-05 23:34:55It took forever to get a reservation here. I was so excited when I finally got a spot. I took my boyfriend and friend to dinner, but the experience was not good. If you are BIPOC then you can expect terrible service. I had to flag the waiter down, who kept avoiding eye contact, and ask to have my order taken. He claimed they were short staffed, but all other tables that sat down after us were greeted and helped. We waited 30 mins just to get water. The pho is served in a large bowl bigger than the actual portion and the quality isn’t worth the price. You can get better pho and be treated like a human being by going to an actual Vietnamese restaurant in east San Jose. Elyse, you can’t run a business in the heart of downtown and ignore the diversity of your customers. Just because I’m brown doesn’t mean I can’t afford to pay your overpriced and under-seasoned trash you call food. Replace the staff who are straight up racist and elitist or stay closed forever. Shame on you.

2021-09-08 21:32:22French Vietnamese food in downtown San Jose near the improv. A bit expensive for the neighborhood and the decor and service. Good creative cocktails, which we very much enjoyed. Our favorite dish was the shaking beef - not quite Tamarine amazing, but still good We also ordered the halibut, which came out raw the first time and was just ok the second time. For our appetizer we had the whole prawns, which were a bit mushy. Total bill was about $160 for two.

2019-12-02 11:35:48This place is a French Vietnamese restaurant. An interesting combination that works so well together. My husband and I have been there a couple of times now and both have been great experiences. I highly recommend the short ribs, rib eye, spring rolls, mushroom tartlets, all are outstanding! They have this chocolate dessert called a trianon that is amazing if youre a chocolate lover. They also have a full bar, a nice cocktail menu and a decent wine-by-the-glass selection. The prices are reasonable for the serving size and comparable to other Bay area restaurants. The service is also pretty fantastic. The server remembered us after only being in one other time! Its a nice little romantic spot. Highly recommend!

2018-09-29 02:22:01It was happy hour so we just had a couple of cocktails and a lot of appetizers. Everything was amazing, but the wings and Brussels sprouts deserve special mention.
