Food was pretty tasty, but the service was atrocious. Our server was rude and messed up our order more than once. When asked about our food and drinks, she had a bad attitude. I typically dont like leaving poor reviews, but this place definitely deserves one.

A neighborhood pub feel but with really good gourmet-like food and the best beer selection in town including Pliny the Elder on tap, served at the perfect temperature. Cant believe it took me so long to find this place! Waitress was nice and even agreed to settle a discreet, hilarious dispute between my wife and I. It was nice of her to play along.

Its not the place or staff. Its the fact that I ordered a burger and upon picking it up it fell apart and became a burger salad. Not impressed. Waitress said its because the buns are made in house. Then they should be less greasy and buns should be seared to slow saturation.

We enjoy the beer and burgers here. Service was great as always, however we were disappointed with the food this time. The french fries were cold and one of our burgers was extremely salty. They replaced the fries with hot fries but they were very salty. We will give the ale house another try but hope the cook reduces the salt.

Always a great experience. Great staff, great food, and an outstanding beer selection in bottles, cans, and draft. The specialty burgers are always delicious but dont forget about the fish tacos and the pizzas. If you order a burger, upgrade to the parmesan garlic fries. You wont be sorry.

BEST BURGER EVER. Be sure to upgrade your fries to garlic cheese ones, well worth it! Beers are cool as well and the place is very reasonably priced. They serve decent sized desserts too if you have a sweet tooth like me ;)

This place is amazing and I almost don’t want to review it so other people can’t come. I would give this place 7 stars if I could. The burgers and beers are amazing. They have over 300 kinds of beer, including some rare, limited run series by Brew Dog, including Tactical Nuclear Penguin (which has 38% alcohol, or something like that!). The burgers are to die for. Everything on the menu is amazing. The only bad thing you can say about this place is that it’s not open 24 hours. They do have a plaque for people who come everyday over a certain period of time, and you could totally do it. Just an amazing hole in the wall. Totally worth visiting if you come to San Diego. Worth the drive from anywhere in the city or downtown. You won’t regret it. L

We came here for lunch with a dog and a baby stroller and they were very welcoming and accommodating. The food was delicious, we all ordered the fish tacos, and they had an extensive selection of beers from around the world. Will definitely be coming back.

Used to be one of my favorites until visiting recently and seeing the entire inside overrun with dogs. Dogs were sitting on seats at the tables and laying across all the walking areas. These surfaces were not cleaned in between patrons nor was all the loose dog hair flying around possibly contained from contaminating the food. I’m a dog lover but seeing the inside of a restaurant filled with animals like this crossed the line for me. It’s incredibly unhygienic and unacceptable for an indoors dining establishment.

I had been there with a friend from Europe before the pandemic. The food was good and they have a large beer selection. It was early afternoon on a weekday and my friend enjoyed the dive bar experience. Returned with my wife, on a Saturday, the place was full with only 2 outdoor tables, no big deal, we found an empty table by the door. The food was as I remembered, we both enjoyed it but the place was very loud which took away from the experience

The Kobe burger is probably the best burger I have tried in my life. Out of this world.The beer menu is endless and if you like beers, this is the place. Food is always good if you want to have a Pizza or sandwich. Small, cozy and local place to go!

Epic Beer selection. Always have some exciting one off kegs and bottles coming through. One of the few places that gets Pliny the Younger! Cannot go wrong with the mac and cheese pizza and the burgers are a winner. Beef, pork, venison, bison, boar...always changing and always super fresh. You get 2/1 on Tuesday burger night which is awesome.

Having many years experience in the restaurant business I typically find something that is being done wrong when I go to one. Unable to find any issues at The Ale House. Wonderful beer selection that will please everyone. Very friendly atmosphere, great attentive staff, and the food? Best burger Ive ever had. Excellent on excellent and all at great prices. Will definitely be going back whenever Im in Encinitas!

This place is terrific!!! If youre looking for great burgers and a brew, this is your spot.Ive been here many times and they never disappoint. The staff are knowledgeable and its a laid back atmosphere. It makes a perfect date night spot or its great if you just want to grab some beers with friends, which is a great experience since they have 100 + beers available, 50 or more on tap and a lot of them from all over the world.The burgers also put this place on the map. If you want to try something different check out the specials, which has included boar and kangaroo burgers.A tip: get here early or later, its a small place (which I think is cool) so it gets packed during peak dinner hours

Great selection of beer-always rotating draft list so it’s nice to be able to try different types of beer (IPAs, Saisons, stouts, imperials, pale ales) from all over the world. Also excellent food-we sometimes head there just for the 🍔 even if we aren’t thirsty.Recommend the Santana Burger and the pizzas are for real too.Sometimes they even have like buffalo burgers, or like wild ostrich burger-crazy stuff.Cool crowd too.

By far my favorite spot in Encinitas. Their selection of beers and ciders is second to none. Always teh friendliest of staff willing to help you in your search for your next favorite beer. We were told to go for the burgers and oh man! First off the service was amazing, friendly folks that know their menu! Started with the mac & cheese and clam chowder; both were out of this world. Then came the burgers, the bootlegger. Flavorful toppings that didnt mask the beef flavor. Havent had food this good in a long time. Oh and dont forget the brews; 500 to choose from. We will definitely be returning to try other fare.

Great local watering hole! Loved their pretzel balls with beer and cheese dipping sauce. My dinner was off their special menu which was their Trio burger made with a blend of brisket, short rib, and Chuck! Having Pliny the Elder on tap also gets a big thumbs up for me!

I went here expecting to enjoy good food and a beer based on the prior reviews. I ordered the fish & chips based on the bartenders recommdation and was shocked to see two shrimp along with two pieces of fish approximately the size of the shrimp! When questioning the bartender about this her response was quite simply sorry!I caution others about this because no patron should be subjected to this lack of professionalism and customer satisfaction!

We had heard this was a very popular place and that the food and atmosphere were terrific. We were not disappointed. We were with a family group and felt very welcome. Other people there all seemed to be enjoying themselves, too. The service was the best. Brooke is a master of organization. She kept everyone in the place attended to and happy. Still the best selection of Belgian ales anywhere I know of but wow has the food gone downhill.Todays $14.50 special bacon cheeseburger was an industrially frozen patty half cooked with a strip of bacon smothered in some sort of fancy lettuce, with about 20 shoestring fries.The Kolsch was excellent though.Ill continue drinking here but I dont think Ill be eating much here anymore.

Seating is quite limited but the atmosphere is great! Great selection of beer, its a nice change to wine centric downtown Encinitas area. Beer section tends to lean heavy towards Belgian beers, but you can find pretty rare domestic craft beers on tap also. What I like most about Encinitas Ale House is that they always, always have proper stemware for each and every beer that they serve.Remember kids to always drink your beer in the proper glassware, because a properly served beer is a better beer.1 star for service1 star for beer selection1 star for food1 star for atmosphere1 star for proper stemwareTaking away 1 star because I can never find a place to sit. EEEAAAHHH. OOOKKKKKKKKAYYY. Or as I not call this place lil johns.80 beers in 80 days. Ok so Im probably not going to make this goal despite my best efforts. I live a little too far of a drive and commute in the opposite direction and have been traveling lately, but I will be back when I have more time. I shall dedicate myself and try not to drink my good beer elsewhere.EAH is small, probably less than 50 seats. Tall tables up front and shorties in the back. Bar stools as you belly up. Whats great about this place is its size. Its meant for intimate drinking with people who love not just good beer, but know good beer. Now we all know San Diego is the Mecca for craft beer, but in my travels to Germany and The Czech Republic Im pretty sure theyve got the real fire in their blood. It was there where I found my love for good beer and its a pleasure to see so many imported here. Forget the British Pubs find a place like this with Belgians, German, French, Swiss and Czech beer, most put most of what we consider craft to shame. There is a lot to be said about availability and creativity so Im not saying trad houses are better, but just look at all the tap handles on the roof, youve probably never seen half of those.Water jug and glasses for cleansing is near the country style doors which is great during the summer. So inviting. Bathroom outside and around the corner. Service is amazing, they sure know the beer better than most bartenders know mixed drinks.Food is actually pretty good from the fries to the wagyu burger (get the gorgonzola on the side because the gruyere is plenty enough already and you dont want to take away from the beef). I havent actually had much of the menu, but have had most of their burgers. I stayed away from the cheesesteak because it was tri tip and not ribeye, who wants a beer float anyhow? With good pizza nearby I could never force myself to try a pizza. Costa Rica Fish tacos are good, but Im not sure what makes them costa rican. Its local white fish, slaw, generic white sauce with mango salsa (thats probably it). It could totally use more bite, its fresh and crispy/crunchy, but could use some refinement on the profile. The calamari plate is really scallops, shrimp and calamari. I was hoping it was all calamari for which I prefer an aioli and fresh lemon, but the scallops and shrimp kind of dictated the heavier tomato based sauce.EAH!!! OK!!!

Why the one Star? I’ll tell U my experience with these people. In their online Advertising it says OPEN TILL 11:00 ! I thought Great! Was meeting a new date there & when I actually called while driving to the Ale House i called them. Someone answered the phone with HELLO! Not saying their Name- i had to ask if i had the right number. Then the guy was vague about closing! He simply said “duh, ya its slow here so we are closing & going home early!” I asked how soon was that & he refused to say! Had no other suggestions of any other place open & it was only 8:30 pm when i called!He was unhelpful- ignorant & simply did not care. I never want to waste money on a business with such a horrid attitude!
