Typical Mexican American food. Ordered mixed combination fajitas and they were good. Really liked the combination of salsa that was brought to us (green salsa, yellow habanero and typical non-spicy red). The ambience was very nice, wasn’t expecting it. Overall my friends and I had a great experience.

Really good Mexican food, and I love how they care by saying that the refried beans and the Mexican rice are vegan. My grandpa has celiac disease, and they easily customized anything he wanted. Beautiful decorations throughout! I got the enchiladas, and one of them easily filled me up.

Very nice atmosphere, very kind and patient staff. There was a wait time for our food but that’s expected of every restaurant. Food is also a little bit on the pricier side, but it’s understandable. The salsa that is served with the chips and salsa is definitely canned. We ordered shrimp and steak fajitas. The dish was mainly rice and beans, the steak was pretty good, however the shrimp could use more seasoning and flavor. I was very excited about the side of guacamole however it was not tasty at all. The drinks were very delicious I ordered the watermelon virgin margarita. Beautiful restaurant, and good quality shrimp and steak, however this restaurant would be even more amazing if they added more home made items and more flavor.

Great experience! We had just finished a 10 hour drive and were so happy to get to enjoy Excellent food and service 👌 Our waitress was excellent, very engaging and helpful. My husband got the Chimichanga and i got a combo so i could try a bit of everything 😅 So so good! Oh yeah and the drinks were excellent as well!

We picked up takeout while going through Los Banos. The food was okay. The nachos were gigantic and could probably feed 4 people. Good value, but they use nacho cheese sauce. It didnt feel like the food ingredients were quality or fresh. Customer service was good. Fish tacos were breaded, and again, just didnt feel fresh.

The food is blah but LET ME TELL YOU the atmosphere is popping. Lots of locals..lots of friends and this is a place where everyone knows everyone. I respect that. You dont see that anymore. But the food? Yikes. Microwave food at best when it came to the appetizers.

I don’t really write reviews very often but I had such an amazing experience at this establishment thanks to one person. Jasmine with the eggplant colored hair is one of if not the single sweetest, hard working, and most caring staff members I’ve had the pleasure dining with. I truly believe Jasmine was built for this industry. If you can’t give her a raise or a promotion at least show her this review and let her know how well she’s doing. She deserves that at the very least. Other than that, good and vibe we’re nice.

Its always worth the stop when traveling through Los Banos.The food and service are reliable, and the margaritas are tasty. The Malabu Margarita that is pictured with this review was delicious!I had a plate with two shredded chicken tacos, beans, and rice. It was plenty of food - after devouring a basket of their excellent chips and salsa. 😊

Everything was awesome. Portions are large! Food is really tasty and came out fast despite them being understaffed. Brandon, our server and bartender was so kind and accommodating. Honestly, everything was just really great and I’m glad we took a break from the freeway driving to venture 6miles into Los Baños and enjoy this historical and yummy place! The chips and salsa were hot and fresh and so good! COLD beer on tap… can’t say enough good things. ☺️

The food here was very good! The service from our waiter was also excellent. The reason for the four stars instead of five is that the hostess we first incountered here was not very friendly and in fact made us feel like an inconvenience. The exceptional service provided by our waiter completely changed our experience from negative to positive.

It was my birthday, so we thought we would go out for dinner. I had the Shrimp enchiladas, it was really delicious. Lots of shrimp, every bite had shrimp, very, very good. But the service was just ok. Our waitress, didnt offer to top off our drinks, she never came by to see if everything was ok. Also the food service was really slow. However the food was great.

Quality of the food here does not match the prices. Food seems microwaved/reheated and veggies from a can. Its a hot spot for drinking in this town so it gets loud and super busy... for my family and I, it caused us to get poor/slow service. We overheard our waiter make a gross comment at a child in the next table over who ordered a hamburger with meat only, she said Id like to get some meat in my buns so inappropriate but the whole family laughed at it too 😒... Our plates would come out much later than each other, and to top it off we got an undercooked steak. We told our waiter, she looked at it and agreed but by the time she got back to us they were all out of steaks that night so she only offered cooking it more or exchanging the plate for something of equal value. It was poor handling of the situation and overall terrible experience. I dont recommend this place to anyone and dont understand the hype.I much rather take the extra 15min drive to the next town over (Santa Nella) and dine/drink at The Kitchen at Mission de Oro.

This place is ridiculously pricy for the amount of food, flavor, and quality you get. Everything tasted like it was from a can or previously frozen and microwaved. Dont let the fancy atmosphere fool you. Most dishes are very basic with an option for additions you can add for a fee which most places would be included, even charge for extra chips. I understand the price of everything has gone up but these prices are a joke and definitely do not reflect what you get, even the mac and cheese which you can tell came from a box is $7 . Pick any taco truck in town and it will be better than here. My experience was pretty bad, every dish we got was sub par, they messed up my sons order and everyone was almost finished by the time they got his out again and they didnt really care. Definitely wont be returning and I hope others dont make the same mistake we did.

Passing through Los Banos. Stopped at Español. My husband had Chilli Verde pork Enchiladas. Absolutely delicious. Tender meat and amazing tart sauce. I had Carne Asada Enchiladas also delicious. Our server was very polite and sweet. We sat out doors on their charming relaxing patio. Our go to stop for sure.

The steak and lobster is the best I had in a long time. Trust me treat yourself and you wont regret spending the money. Youll be happy.Addendum: Returned 10 months later...There still killing it over at Espanas and this is fact. This time I enjoyed there outdoors brick oven pizza. All meat was surprisingly tasty, usually when you have all meat it gets way to salty after the second piece. However I do recommend grabbing a to go if your visiting you just might want to relive the moment before you leave town.FYI the top shelf margarita with it is a favorable combination in my opinion.**New Post July 18th 2022**Once again Espanas delivers on the food and service with a delicious Angus steak sandwich and steak fries. I probably could eat this sandwich everyday if I could have it my way. They continue to have 5 stars from me! Espanas is definitely on top of the list of places my family enjoys eating. The food is always amazing and the drinks are even better. My kids love the mini tacos and the nacho platter. My husband loves the seafood enchiladas. You have to try the carne asada queso dip, it is the best! Dont forget the margaritas, try every flavor! Good variety of beer on tap, friendly staff. When available, the private room is also great for birthday parties, baby showers, etc.

We tried this place as we were passing through town based on the reviews. It made a good first impression based on the atmosphere and cleanliness. Unfortunately, the food was really disappointing. We ordered fish tacos and carne asada tacos and neither was very good- maybe we ordered the wrong thing. Service was pretty slow. We did enjoy the salsa- just wish there wasn’t a charge for more chips. We would have eaten more.

The manager refused to sit our large party with a reservation (for 1115 am) until 1hr after opening. When we had made reservations. We were having a family luncheon for funeral services and the accommodation couldnt be made right after opening on a Monday in buss Los Banos. I will not be returning, I was giving them another shot since last time I passed through the food was sub par taco bell Mexican. Also the photo shows a homeless man asleep in front of the entrance every car has to pass to enter the parking lot. Appears the staff doesnt take pride in their company from turning away a reserved party of 25 to poor security

A Los Banos tradition. I have been going to Espanas since 1983 and I know other duck hunters that have been regulars for longer than that. Espanas still is the grand old dame of Mexican food.I especially like the old style crispy tacos. Corn tortillas that are filled with meat and then fried. My companions had enchiladas and a burrito. All very well prepared.The interior is an old style inn and dining room. Nothing bad but just a bit dated. Still clean and well maintained.

We were a party of 10. Food was great but the service was almost non existent. We had to ask for refills for both beverages and chips. Kind of sad because there is an automatic gratuity of 18% tacked onto the bill when the party is over 8 people. We had reservations for 8pm. We arrived at different times between 730 and 8 pm. We enjoyed our time as a group and at 9pm we were greeted by some sort of host management and were notified that the restaurant is now closed and that they needed to clean our tables. So we quietly gathered our things and proceeded towards the exit when we were asked how was everything? There are better ways to communicate to your guests like not having us reserve a table for only an hr to begin with. But if you are a restaurant that has been open for many decades, you should already know proper restaurant hospitality etiquette.

During a time when many restaurant seems to be a shell of their former shelves, Espanas stands out as being just as good as it always was. I had the steak and lobster for dinner and both were flavorful, tender, and juicy. Ten times better and yet more economical than similar fare at Red Lobster or Black Angus. Called to plan a birthday party of 24 people. Heres the following rules.1. Deposit had to be made.2. 18% gratuity added.3. No separating of checks.4. Deposit not refunded if all party not show.Well we decided since it was 4 separate families and didnt want hassle of 1 check. Extra gratuity since this is based on service. To go else where. The food was the best and the staff actually had personalities that made it great. I would highly recommend this establishment for the best experience. The worst service Ive ever had here! Tip for you server, choose another career! Ive been coming to Espanas for 32 years, and never have I been treated like I was today.Started when we sat down, server was not very friendly she seemed put off by serving me and 5 others. Then I threw the bomb and told her 2 other people were coming. She proceeded to bark out with a party of 8 or more there is an automatic 18% Tip and only one check for the table. No room at our table so the 2 people that came in had to sit at another table. The server kept on about the 2 people at ANOTHER table. I told her they werent at our table, server said but I know there with you if we were able to move the two tables together it would have been fine. But we all know that is against Espanas law! Called the manager. She was preaching the same sermon so we just left.Went to Chilis, great meal, and most of all GREAT SERVICE! TAKE A LESSON ESPANAS. The key is to have good servers with positive interaction with customers.You embarrassed me, my daughter, and my 7 yr old grandaughter. Not very kid friendly.This experience was worth No Stars.

I dont know whats changed in the last few months or so but I will not be coming back here again (especially since my drive is 1.5 hrs now) its nothing like it used to be. Food is terrible. Everyone left their plates half full or more. Almost $300 later and we all left hubgry. Staff is unbelievably rude, including whatever manager I talked to.I used to frequent espanas when I lived in town and was always my go to when in town but not anymore. This place has really come down. I hope LB gets another reasonable restaurant asap!

Paid the $35.00 deposit, asked if it was ok for us to bring balloons and a cake and was told that it was fine.Upon arrival manager on floor, I believe his name was Manuel was extremely rude, told us to get your balloons off the table, what do you this isWe had to split our party into 2 tables because they did not prepare a bigger table for such a big party, even though we had called a week in advance to prepare.The server was great, but the manager truly needs to learn some manners. Whole family is completely disappointed at the managers attitude towards us the whole night. I have no problem paying $80.00 a plate, but please be respectful and learn some manners. Wayne and I had dinner there Sunday (October 23, 2022) afternoon (we both found it fabulous). I had the chili Verde burrito and it was the best I’ve ever had. Wayne had the combination plate which consisted of chili Verde a beef taco and a cheese enchilada. There was so much food served that I brought the leftovers home for another meal today that I’m looking forward to. Most assuredly we will be coming back. We both are from Fresno and decided to take an afternoon drive in which we landed in Los Banos. Never been to Espana before. The drive, the food was such a delightful way to spend the day. Food was good. Not worth an hours long wait. Waitress was sweet. Manager could use training on professionalism. When I brought it to her attention that we’d been waiting for an hour she apologized. However, mixed in with the apology regarding short staffed in the kitchen (understandable) and a small grill (🤷🏻‍♀️) was (1) “it’s only been 45 minutes, not an hour “. It had been an hour because I had sent a text saying we had arrived an hour earlier. 2) “you DID order steak and that takes at least 30 minutes to cook” Hmmmm. We were there on a weekday at around 3ish in the main dining area, and the noise from the bar was just over the top. Had I been in the bar, I might have liked the loud banter, but I was trying to enjoy a quite dinner. More importantly, the ladies bathrooms need some kind of security. They are down a hallway and in a bit of a secluded area - with no locks at all. When she returned, she said that she felt uncomfortable as anyone could have entered and nobody would have heard or noticed. BIG potential liability suit. :-|

Stopped here for the first time as a half way point to do Harley Davidson business and was quite pleased at what we had found....... we really enjoyed the atmosphere along with a friendly staff and timely response..... food was fantastic, all in all great place....... also can see that its a local favorite for sure....... great job !

Margaritas were good and the fajitas were tasty. Also the brick oven pizza was awesome. I also had a michelada which was ok. Will definitely be back

I travel all over the US on a weekly basis, and I can honestly say that España’s is the best place for take-out/delivery, especially during this current virus hysteria, bar none. Great food & service! Where other restaurants & fast food places employ inexperienced or untrained cooks to handle your food, I’ve been in España’s kitchen, so I trust them to employ knowledgeable and experienced chefs, as well as using excellent infection control practices. And unlike other restaurants or delivery services, there is NO DELIVERY FEE. Please don’t forget to tip the driver. Wait staff depends tremendously on your tips...

This place has fresh authentic food. I have have the Guaymas plate which consisted of what chose, a Chile relleno, chicken enchilada in green sauce with Spanish rice and refried beans...all fresh and absolutely delicious...been there a few times!!! The chips and salsa, you get your choice of corn or flour tortillas. YUMMMMM!!!! I always buy a bag before I leave in their little store!! Very beautiful inside!! Excellent service! Every thing we wanted, the servers and service are wonderful

The servor was friendly and thourough, checking on the foods i was considering ordering.Though they say they can serve GF here, there are only 3, maybe? 4 choices spread across their varied and large menu. Their chips are not GF. The beans are excellent.

I would have to say the food is very good but on the other hand I dont like the way they operate....i say that cuz one day my battery had died whence was parked in the back so I was gone about a half hr to try and get some help and when I came back somebody had taken the wheels off my car,one of the employees said the owner and some other guy just watch them take my wheels without doing anything about it

Very nice lunch. Friendly and efficient server. I enjoyed the shredded beef taco very much. Rice and beans were traditional and tasty. The poblano chile relleno was well prepared but stuffed with smoked gouda cheese. Not a complementary flavor. I would definitely eat here again. If the relleno had the normal cheese, I would have loved it. My sister (temporarily avoiding spicy food) had the steamed clams in a fabulous garlic sauce and the fried calamari. The clams were delectable. The calamari was cut into steak strips. Both were excellent.

Espanas is always as nice place to eat anytime but really enjoy it during the holidays for the luncheon get togethers. However, in the summer love to eat on the patio. Food is usually consistent and the staff is very accommodating.

I first experienced this restaurant back in the mid 80s when I was working in Modesto. Its changed a lot but the food is excellent! Reasonably prized and worth it. Love the decor as well.

Ordered chicken tenders tonight. Kinda skimpy for me and tasted like old oil. Fries were barely done . Im not a happy camper tonight. Ive eaten better chicken strips and fries from a roach coach.
