Far and away the best ice cream in the valley! Any complaints about service are expecting to be pampered to at an unreasonable level. This place is run by just one guy who makes and serves seriously amazing, authentic gelato. The flavor variety is always abundant (tiramisu and guava are my personal favorites) and the prices are fair for the quality of product.

Tried going here for the first time to give my money to a small business vs a large one, but the old guy in there was rude as hell. Talked down to us just cuz I didn’t hear him. Super condescending when he repeated himself, as if he assumed I didn’t speak English. Super racist vibes off him. We just left after that lol I guess he’s happy with the 0 customers that were in there when we walked in.

Old man is a real one! A pleasure. Works so hard. Dont be on phone, or wait for service 😉 . Kids are welcome, but dont run around. Be respectful! Expect the best coffee, etc. Will exceed Starbucks and gelato...oh so good. Lets continue to support local small business gems, as I miss those long gone. Also praying for their safety and all ours!

Price posted on the menu was not the price at the register, that on top of weird remarks by the owner. The coffee beans we got were good, which is why it’s not a 1 star. We won’t be coming back.

I am so glad I found this establishment. The gelato is delicious and made from scratch.The owner is elderly and he is very mono tone. The owner is a straightforward and to the point guy which I really like but I dont think it would be pleasing to some especially if youre not used to people who are just blunt and dont sugarcoat stuff. Sometimes people take bluntness for rudeness but its not like that at all. He was not rude at all and he was polite.The place was warm but I am not going to ding a star for it because as I ate my gelato I could feel the cooldown and it felt so good. I felt so refreshed. I took my little ones and they loved it. So much better than ice cream.Read some comments about him being racist but he was not racist to me nor my family at all. Hes just straightforward. Just an elderly man, serious, polite and with a business. We will definately be coming back. 🤗 I found my hang out spot!

Excellent conversation, excellent gelato, and a wonderful and relaxing atmosphere. 10/10 would recommend. The owner is a HOOT! A little rough around the edges, but just have patience and youll get a fabulous conversation. Heart of gold. And good gelato too!!

For everyone talking about the owners demeanor, dont go to NYC. Once you go in to the establishment with the understanding that this man may be from the older-generation Italian East Coast USA way of thinking, generalizing here and not certain, this is all okay. There are no active negative acts that are taken against anyone by the staff, and patron expectations and interpretations need to be tempered that not everyone is the same.For real feedback now: its more like Starbucks than I would have liked, but I appreciate the diversity and inclusion of some East Coast vibes in the environment here in Lancaster.Very clean and lots of effort on presentation. Compressors on the fridges are loud, but the smooth Jazz is usually enough to drown it out.Ill be returning for the gelato, with all my flavored drinks half sweet.

The skill and cunning of this master of physiological and emotional manipulation never ceases to amaze me! I remember me and my family visiting for the first time. The atmosphere of scorn and annoyance from the man was so intense that I could hardly keep a straight face or bust up laughing! Please, please by all means by all means come and bath in the miasma, and gloom of the grumpy man! And see if you can make him smile or even laugh. But bring a camera because anyone whos hasnt been here wont believe you!

Weve been coming to Farleys since Gary opened. The gelato is AMAZING. Gary makes it from scratch from real ingredients.Gary can be a bit polarizing, but even he will admit hes mellowed with age. Ive always enjoyed visiting with him.Theres not many small businesses that last more than a decade. Farleys is a gem that I think is worth a visit, or even a second chance.

I’ve been eating here for years. This is probably the very best or 2nd best gelato I’ve ever had. Maybe one place in Italy was arguably better, but that one was a different style so maybe not a fair comparison. I don’t know why Lancaster happens to have such a gelato gem, but it does, so enjoy it while it’s here.People seem to downvote the owner. Just because he doesn’t follow the standard fake politeness strategy designed to make people spend more it’s bad or wrong. I’d take real over some fake forced smile everyday.

Best Ice Cream in the AV. Im an old white guy, non-politically aligned, not a racist so Im really not on anybodys team. Here are my objective views. If you read the negative posts you see the same complaints. Its not that the Italian Ice is BAD, nope, no problem with the product. Just a bunch of FEELINGS. The mean man doesnt want my kids running loose in his store! The mean man doesnt want to give me free samples of EVERY flavor! The mean man expects me to PAY for the product and not whine about the cost So yeah, I dont have any of those issues, I dont care, he doesnt hurt my tender feelings. In America ice cream just like American baked goods are all just sugar bomb garbage products. All fake garbage ingredients and sugar focused on giving you diabetes. I spent 7 years living in Europe and this Ice Cream in America is BAD. Farleys is GOOD. Its made the traditional European way and its a bit more expensive because it has REAL ingredients and its worth it. If you cant afford Farleys then go to Dairy Queen for your diabetes and take those annoying kids with you. Farleys is GREAT. If you like George Carlin, youll like that mean old man too. He should put up a sign, No kids or pets or sensitive people allowed.

I come here on the regular, and Ive tried almost every flavor and have enjoyed them ALL. The owner is very upfront and to the point, which others might consider rude. But the reality is, youre here for gelato, not for social pampering. This place is amazing, hands down the best frozen treat available in the entire A.V. I love it.

Very racist owner. The first time we tried purchasing from this place he completely ignored my 10 year old. Today we were about to go in and he said “place is closed” when it still had the open sign on and he clearly had gelato left. The business hours say it’s open until 9pm so I called as soon as I got home and he answered so obviously it was still open. It’s so sad to see that someone his age still has that mentality.

I went to this establishment for the first time ... and let me tell you it will be my last ... place does look clean. I entered the establishment with no greeting from the owner he walked up after a while and just stared at me until I said I would like to purchase some Gelato. I asked him what flavors he recommended and with his bad tone which could possibly be his regular tone but to me came off very rude he said they are all good I make them all. No pictures of his menu said were allowed or any inside. over all made me feel not wanted at all. If you dont mind some bad customer service and feeling like a burden then yes this place is okay over all the Gelato was okay not bad at all but not amazing if that makes sense. I would have been returning once in a while if the experience with the man wasnt so horrible, dreadful and horrific but just the atmosphere and tone he was speaking with made me not want to ever return!!!! 1 star cause Gelato was okay but customer service was the worst Ive experienced from a local small business...and I prefer to support small business so I was very hesitant to post this but its just the truth!

The gelato is wonderful every time & the owner is so fun to talk to. He is super sweet with my son & makes our experience enjoyable. I brought my in-laws to Farley’s & they loved talking to the owner & thought he was funny & kind. The shop is also kept very clean & the setup is beautiful. We all enjoyed ourselves & our dessert. I think those that gave bad reviews just don’t understand his humor. I’ve had nothing but great experiences each time I’ve went. I love bringing my family to Farley’s! 🍨❤️

It was our first time visiting this place so we were excited to try it out. Took this old man about 8 minutes to make one drink for people who had already ordered. Was super polite and friendly to the white people in front of us even cracked some jokes with them. When it was our turn, however, he had suddenly caught an attitude. We didn’t think much of it and asked if we could try a some flavors since they were flavors we never really tried before. He responded with “no” then CONTINUED on a huge rant about how he ended samples when COVID started and he never lost any customers because of it blah blah so we left because honestly I don’t care how good ice cream is, I’d rather go to cold stone than have to deal with some bitter old man who treats PAYING customers like dirt. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

The older gentleman working behind the counter was extremely rude. The whole experience felt like we were bothering him. He told us to not look at the prices on the menu because they were two years old. When we asked what the current price was, he pointed somewhere else in the restaurant and said hell let us know when he rung us up. We left mid-order and walked out. Plenty of other places in the Valley that appreciate business!

Absolutely love coming to Mr.Farleys spot. Has amazing gelato and amazing coffee, truly have not been able to enjoy any other ice cream since trying his. Every time Ive gone in, both alone and with other people, he has been nothing but polite. Hes particular about etiquette in his shop but is respectful so long his shop is respected. Would defiantly not call this a spot for children, although he has been polite to my nephews. Think of this more as a coffee shop where people go to relax rather than a coldstone or baskin robbins where kids run around crazy. 10/10 recommend visiting!

The owner should fire himself from the service counter because he really sucks at it. His attitude toward the customers is that they must follow his rules since he is the owner and if he does not like something you do he scolds you, and you better not make a mess in his place. I will not go there if he is there. For now, he does have some nice employees. It is too bad because the place is very attractive and the owner does a great job at maintaining the business. If only he could remove himself from the front and stay in the back running things, the business would do OK. The place looks good but since the owner insists on working the front counter, very poor customer service.

Been all over the world and have explored many gelato shops in my lifetime. I keep coming back here for its warm atmosphere, great gelatos, coffee, and I love supporting local businesses that deserve it. This is not Thrifty’s, Cold Stone or any other cheap ice cream shop. I feel like locals in the area think Gelato is just ice cream. People walk in & expect a fun ice cream shop, and that may explain why the owner may come off as disgruntled. Gelato is ancient and created by the Italians. It takes hours to make one flavor, a highly time consuming craft, and its quality is higher than ice cream.If you have never been to Italy or never have socialized with any Italians; you are going to think the owner is rude. He always is happy to serve and does a great job at keeping his coffee shop clean, tasty, and cultured. Mr.Farley is a joy to talk to, and cool to have an actual conversation with. Quite refreshing to have character in customer service instead of the mundane, robotic, habitual service transactions we are all used to in this day & age.His Affagatto’s are amazing.As a local brown woman, I will keep coming back and supporting this tasteful art.This man is doing the area a favor. Mr. Farley has different temperaments by the day, but the Gelato is always amazing. Although I have always had a positive experience there (once in a while he seems a little grouchy), others say his customer service is terrible. Again - you go for the product, not the experience (but we always take our Gelato to-go, anyway, so it doesnt matter to us).

I visited here a few times. I liked the gelato and I had a favorite flavor. However, the owner is peculiar and unpredictable treating some customers exceedingly rudely and other customers with exaggerated cheeriness. Children were most irritating to Mr. Farley as he had no patience with typical child behavior. If people didnt follow his rules he would get very annoyed and yell at them. I started feeling guilty about watching different people get abused by him. Then one day I decided no more -- I would rather buy grocery store gelato.

This is a great place to cool off or get a fantastic cup of coffee. The owner Gary is a fantastic man. Hes just like a dry old grandpa, and thats why I love him. I saw many different people pass through his shop and he treated them all the same. Not saying hes as sweet as his gelato, but if you want a good sweet treat, you found the right place. He wont be mean to you or degrade you, he just wont greet you with a smile. Doesnt mean you cant give him one.

This guy was so rude . it was our first time here and when the older man came out from the back I was standing in front of the Gelato selection and instead saying excuse me he gestured in a shewing motion ....i let it slide because he was old and asked if he had any sugar free selection as someone in our party was a diabetic and he acted offended he satedI have been here 11 years I have never had sugar free why would you ask that My only reply was that it was my first time here but would definitely be my last, as I walked out of the door. took every ounce in me to not be rude back to the guy but he was old and i was raised better.

I went in with my friend and son and he seemed like he was irritated because we wanted our Gelato to go. We were not planning on eating it there. Then when we asked for 2 additional to go for my other son and husband at home he asked in a very snide tone, SO.. you want FIVE gelatos?? The place was empty so you would think he would have been happy to have costumers. We told him never mind just the 3, paid, and left. Went there with my family and an elder gentlemen came after 10 mins of us waiting there and he was upset that my daughter was walking around the tables and told me to hold her. Why do you sell ice cream and kids are not allowed to walk inside, very horrible experience can’t pay me to get ice cream there I do not support establishment that provide horrible customer service. Im very suprised to see theses negative reviews, my niece recently went to Italy and the older man behind the counter was so happy to hear about her story. Hes a Vietnam War Vet and was telling us stories about that because my nieces father is stationed in Italy. My dad I guess is the same serious way, hes a Army Vet maybe just misunderstanding. He just came of as serious to me, but if the store got robbed Id want him to be the owner, he seems like hed know what to do in that situation. :) Just my opinion. The Gelato was amazing too, Ive lived in Portugal for two years and they also serve Gelato it was very good here!!

Very rude owner! Made my son cry because he told him to stop putting his hands on the glass...when all my son was doing was pointing at what ice cream he wanted. I said please so not tell my child what to do and he said then leave my store, and I said wow you are not very good at customer service and he said I dont care, there will always be customers. Hes also very weird with the Chinese women that works their.....when I came in they were sitting at a table drinking Starbucks drinks (multiple drinks) and writing down notes like as if they were trying to taste the recipe to copy it....I have no idea but they had about ten drinks from their and books and a laptop and taking sips and writing down notes, just seemed very Erie I guess.

Came to have gelato with my family on 4th of July. As we arrive we see 3 adults sitting in front of the place talking. We see no one behind the counters to help us. Before we know it one of the adults came in. This old man asked us in a very rude tone “what do you want”. We ask him if any of his gelatos have peanuts. He proceeds with his very grumpy attitude why don’t you order and I’ll tell you. I tell him that he seems kinda rude to us and begins to say why don’t you just keep calling me names. I tell him all we asked was a simply question and he seems like he doesn’t want to help. He then gets all irritated and says I refuse to serve you and sends us on our way with our kids. But not before my husband and I had our last words with him. I made sure that his friends who he rushed to go back outside and sit with heard it. We didn’t mean to offend him and wished him a Happy 4th July. I told him “Sir, I have dealt with people in customer service and you have the worst I’ve ever seen. I’ve told him that I’ve been to his place and never been treated this way. He says I’ve been the owner for 1 year and half. Well that sure does explain it because I came when there was a female server. So sad that I will never be returning to this place.I really hope that the owner reads the reviews and realizes how unhappy he truly is. It’s so sad that you are a grumpy old man who maybe needs a different job where you don’t deal with the public. Customer service is not for you. 😞

I was so excited to try gelato. However, I wish I had read the reviews before going on my lunch break. When I got there the old guy was making someones drink, ok not problem. But he took 7 min to make that. This woman and her daughter was in front of me and he kept asking were they ready to order. They wanted to try the ice cream first. He then tells them that they have to wait because he needs a break.When he finally comes back over he asks them yet AGAIN what they wanted. When she tells him, he gets a MAJOR attitude and tells her she has to wait because he has to tend to the newly made icecream. Needless to say they left. But because I felt I already wasted a good part of my break, I stayed and waited several min more. I finally got my ice cream after about 20 min and it was NOT worth the time or the ridiculous price. If you tell someone he was being rude to you the response is often I know he was rude to me as well. For the bad service and the overpriced gelato is the reseason for the one star review. If you want better service, good ice cream, and smoothies, go to the store inside Albertsons by the front entrance. They are always nice and the prices are more affordable.

I get excited when I come to the AV for a visit since it means Ill have a chance to go to Farleys again. The coffee and gelato are great. The owner is charismatic about his craft albeit can be somewhat intense to interact with. It is clear that he is someone who truly cares and is proud of his work. I have been here a couple times and I am only giving 2 stars because the quality of the product (gelato, havent tried the coffee but Im sure its good) and cleanliness of the store is awesome HOWEVER, the owner (I assume) is not a very pleasant person. These full bags of coffee are not cheap. I choose to go buy it because I feel the beans are fresh and roasted properly. In my opinion... because I am a loyal customer and I would have continued to buy a bag once a month, he should of just threw the “VIENNA BLEND” in the garbage and gave me a bag of the “FARLEY’S BLEND”. But he refused. He actually looked mad at me and rolled his eyes like I was crazy. He is a rude man and I’ve seen how he doesn’t smile, but I continued to buy his gelatos and coffee because it is good stuff. But I can easily buy a bag of good stuff online or just find another coffee house . Well he doesn’t have much customers anyways and whatever he does to stay in business is a mystery. Came in for the first time today to some old man (who based on reading other reviews might be the owner) who was incredibly rude toward us. We stood at the counter and waited to be served but he didnt say a word to us for several minutes. He then just walks to the back roomand disappears for a minute. Afterwards he comes back and still doesnt talk to us. He just kept giving us cold stares. After another couple minutes he yells at the kids we were with to move away from the counter so we left. A group of Pokemon Go players arrived at Farleys to play. They were not blocking doors, or entrances, they were not inside the business . When a few people went in to buy a coffee, the owner told them Pokemon was bad for business and they had to leave. Refusing customers and shooing them off the tables is really what is bad for business. I would definitely not recommend this business. The owner is rude and preferential to customers.

Gary makes his gelato and sorbetto fresh, by hand, daily. Youll find flavors here you may never have seen before. Almost always Gary (owner) is the only person working the counter, so if youre in a hurry, perhaps youd be happier getting something pre-packaged at a nearby grocery store. If you get to know Gary, as we have over the course of well over a year, youll find hes an interesting person who has many stories to tell. From being scolded for putting my coffee on the wood counter while trying to wrangle my then 19 month old, juggling 2 cups of gelato and I was 7 months preganat to the last time when I was scolded for my now 5 & 3 year old ma sitting in high back chairs- I was done. One time bad experience is enough for me for never go back and get that rude owner of that ice cream places attitude. For me that day I just wanted to spend my time with my friends who love ice cream. It is not normal for someone in his age being so sweet and nice to some people (specially beautiful women) and so rude in the same time to other people. In US the customer is always right and living in this beautiful Country for 23 years I knew this for long time. I will never go back there again even he has the best ice cream in the whole world. He talked to his employee so bad in front of us. Just like she is nobody. It hurts my feeling so bad. When I walked in his store and I told him Im waiting for my friends. Arrived here on a Sunday at 9:40 PM. Someone was inside, but the door was locked and the place was apparently closed for the night. I get that its a Sunday night in Lancaster and you probably thought it would be safe to close up early, but it is the height of unprofessionalism to close earlier than your stated hours. If youre not getting much business on Sunday nights and plan on closing up early, then change your office hours to reflect this. Its not like I arrived just five minutes before closing.

The coffee is good but the man is extremely bitter and has terrible customer service. I thought he was racist but being there and seeing how he treats his own race I knew that he is a person who simply has a lot of things to heal. If you have a lot of patience and the desire to endure mistreatment, you can buy your coffee there calmly. Dont look out for the rest.
