Loved everything! Ordered the 6 persons combo and we couldnt eat Thai hot pot, so they quickly packed it up for us to take home. Salt pepper shrimp was very crispy and tasty.

A great disappointment! I have been eating here for a while, not regular but every time I have guests I will invite them to here for French and Vietnamese food. It was good other time when I ate there with 1-2 friends. This time I reserved table for my family guests, we were 6 in total. We were so excited to try food here the dinner went wrong.1. Escargot: 2 orders were served not hot but only lukewarm, texture was very very soggy. Not juicy soft as it was.2. Baked fish ( Large size): we were excited to wait for this fish as it is the restaurant signature but it was terrible. It looked crispy but the skin was chewy and super hard, feel like chewing aluminum foil in your mouth. My guests also commented that the fish looked nice and crispy but when eating it is not, it cut their tongue to chew it so they decided to eat the meat underneath the skin only, we tried to finish it as it is $86 something, not wanted to waste it but finally we could not finish, have to pack it to home to see what can do with it3. Queen fried rice: rice was hard and dried4. Bun cha Ha Noi: pork patty was dried not as juicy as it was when I ordered several time before.The Rare beef salad, French onion soup was ok.For the bill, cashier added 18% tip straight. I did not like that way. I never like to be forced for how much I am giving tip in any place I go, you can indicate straight on your menu that party more than how many people will be subjected to how much service charge to ensure your service for the big group is paid fairly. However for tip, it comes from how satisfied client to your food and services, let client decide it. I know I could tell them taking out that 18% and we leave tip in Cash as we planned but I agreed to support for the server, not for food quality.I lost my face when recommended the restaurant to my guests here, I told them it was one of the best in OC, I wanted to let them try how good Vietnamese food but we all left with unpleasant feeling. Definitely I will not come back or recommend the restaurant anymore.

Vietnamese French restaurant that has been open since 1988 and with good reason too. Its one of the few Vietnamese restaurants with comfortable outdoor dining still established. The crispy baked catfish is massive even for the small size and easily fed our table of four. It was tender and flavorful and not too bony. The filet mignon is served on a sizzling hot plate and was also quite a tender cut. Also the egg rolls delicious. The fish sauce is not too watered down. My least favorite dish was the curry frog legs. I think its maybe because I dont really like the idea of frog legs that much but our table ordered it and I tried it. If you cant get over the idea of frog legs, dont order lol

I really enjoyed the food here. I was craving some Vietnamese egg rolls and they were exactly what I hoped for. Came with lettuce but they didn’t have sweet and sour sauce but the traditional fish sauce which is sweet and tangy but I also got the shaken filet mignon which was so tender and juicy but I wish had a little more seasoning. Still really good but the only other thing Is the menu said it came with white rice but I got something more like a Spanish rice not sure what exactly but it was still good. Definitely hit the spot.

I sadly was not impressed with what this restaurant was hyped up to be. Some friends took us here and we got their claim to fame catfish which was alright. We also got a chicken curry, which is usually a favorite of ours, but the chicken was fatty, had ligaments and skin still attached and the curry didnt have the nice lemongrass flavor. We also got the jelly fish salad. We noticed two servers, one of which picked their teeth and another who used their whole hand to wipe their nose before serving plates. No one was wearing a proper uniform. The restaurant looks tacky on the outside and is completely fenced-in making it difficult to get to the parking lot. Every window is covered up, its dark inside, and their are mirrors everywhere making it look like a maze. Apparently this was supposed to be authentic, but I found it disturbing. And to top it all off, we spent $40 a person and we didnt even get drinks!

Nicer Vietnamese restaurant to go to. Especialty is the baked catfish. It was good but I was expecting a bigger one. Beef salad was good and tasty. My coworkers and I went on a Tuesday night. It wasnt full but there were a few tables. Be ready to wait at least half hour for the baked catfish. Spring rolls were ok. The sparagus soup was good. Plenty of parking. Staff was attentive. Will come back again.

Will continue to dine here again.Its been a while since the pandemic that my husband and I, we returned here to enjoy its famously baked catfish and seafood hot pot. Boyz, it didnt let us down at all.- First of all, here are some updates as of today, you now can dine-in (with limited seating per state - law, of course). From my observations, restaurant has re-arranged its tables approximately 6 apart including surrounding glasses dividers for each table (the amount of tables have been reduced in half compared to pre-pandemic) so we feel more safe and comfortable to eat-in. They tried to seat customers as far as possible from one table to other tables. All employees were wearing masks, and they cleaned up tables and chairs thoroughly with sanitizer after each used.- As usual, we ordered our favorites baked catfish and a seafood hot pot. The balance of the sweet, sour and little spicy of the broth was perfect. There was a variation of seafood such as fish, shrimps, clams, jelly fish, squid, snails and quail eggs for you to dip in broth. It served with rice vermicelli and vegetables. Im still salivating when thinking about it. Lol. We couldnt finish it because we still have to make room for the baked fish. Wow. The fish was perfectly baked. It was golden brown, crisp and fresh. Beautifully decorated with its trimmings such as lettuce, carrot pickle, cucumber, crushed peanuts. So yummmmy. It served with rice paper, a full plate of various mints, lettuce, more carrot pickle and slices of cucumber dipped in anchovies or mixed fish sauce of your choice. Its so good. Worth an hour drive to get here. Lol.Service was nice, attentive, and friendly. Expected to wait a bit longer for the food, which was understandable. Perhaps, kitchen personnel down-size due to the Covid-19 situation. However, foods had same taste as before pandemic.Overall, we would definitely return again.

My family have been eating here for years. The quality has remained constant and the delicious. Most of the time we go for the catfish but every now and then we change it up.The decor hasnt changed as far as I can remember, that being fairly dark with spotlights on the tables, overall burgundy color scheme, and generally more intimate than other places. Its great for dates and family meals.Its no real wonder why this place has existed for so long, and will continue to persist as a cornerstone for Vietnamese-French cuisine.

The place for Ca Nuong is here!!! Been going here for more than 20+ years and never a bad experience with quality of food or service. Just this time we did take out and had it at home at was still delicious and crispy. The empress fried rice was my go to when I was a kid.

Service and food were both terrible. The waiters will not take your order unless you personally walk to them, and they will not check on you for water refills, takeout boxes, or when you want to settle the bill before leaving. The soft shell crab was burnt because it had already been deep fried but was served on a sizzling pan for presentation. The rest of the food was basic, bland, and overpriced.

Love their catfish and bun cha hanoi. Always so good, usually we go with 3-5 people and split a medium/large catfish depending on how hungry we are. Catfish is always so juicy and crispy and it’s to die for when you wrap it all good with some of the mo ha (green onion oil) and some ngoc nam.

I have been eating here for the last 20 years. Famously for their baked catfish served with all trimmings such as rice paper, anchovy or fish sauce, various types of mints, lettuce, cucumbers and green banana... Delicious!!! Dont forget to try their seafood hotpot. So flavorful.I like this restaurant for the quality of food. They dont try to cut corners like others. Although prices have slowly risen, but, its understandable. Who didnt?Service is attentive as always.

This is hands down one of my favorite hole in the wall places to eat in California. Located off the 22 Fwy in Santa Ana about an hour outside LA. Best oven baked catfish I can’t describe it you just have to go order a small medium or large and a beef cilantro salad. It’s messy and absolutely delicious and health. Best crispy skin ever. Promise me you’ll try and share your experience with me. It’s a must. I love this place.

He tried to upsale us for 2 orders of house combo but when we refused he began to give us attitudes. Supposedly he was “just suggesting “ but we knew better not to order a whole bunches of food and can’t finish them. It was so annoying that he kept on telling us what to order even though we kindly declined. The rest of the staffs were pleasant and seemed to work very hard. The other dishes that came with the combo special were good. We left there disappointed because we went there for the crispy fish and too bad it wasn’t good and the old guy was rude. If you come, definitely order their baked catfish. Its their specialty and doesnt disappoint. Though their rice paper didnt seem good quality (had to wrap with at least three rice paper and it still ripped apart pretty easily). We waited quite awhile for our food but that couldve been because the place was packed. The food is so good. My family likes to come here when they visit. The catfish they make is the best thing on the menu. What really sucks is the service. If you come here for lunch or have an early dinner, dont expect a stellar experience. Youll find a couple waiters sleeping in the dinning room. Really. Either that or theyll be playing games on their phone. A couple of times, we got lettuce leaves that still needed to be cleaned. If it were up to me, Id stop coming here already.

This place provided terrible service. They never came to our table unless we waved them down. It was so terrible that at one point we had to walk over to a server and tap on their shoulder. I believed it was due to our age, there was 7 of us and we ranged from age 21 to 28. We still bought three large cat fish and spent almost $200, but received terrible service. The fish was very good, but I have had better. The fish did not leave me satisfied. That maybe due to the seriously poor service. I gave them a 2 star not a 1 star because the food was good. I’m very disappointed with this place. I read good reviews about the food and we were excited to try something new. Needless to say the food was tasteless, the catfish, which appears to to be the specialty was really dry and bland. The service was not very good. There were two servers, a girl and guy, the girl does not seem to care about her job very much, the guy was ok. I do not recommend this place. The price was $46 for a small size tasteless catfish.

The food was good, but the service was pretty terrible, so Ill give this place 3 stars. They included a 16.7% tip onto the bill, which normally would be fine if the service was good. However, they brought me dirty dishes, and when I pointed it out, they took it back and brought me replacements. So far so good. But guess what, the replacements were dirty too. The waiter walked off after he place it onto the table. I had to wipe it off to use it. When I finished my soda, I asked for water, but they never gave it to me.

Favori has been ranked among the best Vietnamese restaurants for years. And O know why! A French-inspired Vietnamese menu covers everything from tasty Vietnamese shrp and bean sprout crepes to rare beef and shrimp marinated in lime sauce (amazing!). Spring rolls, and salad rolls with peanut sauce are great! Of course, catfish is a party on a platter! Highly recommended for those who like a Vietnamese traditional dish! Ive heard Favori is a famous restaurant, but the baked catfish dish was not fresh, I think they bought cheap fishes to jack up the profits, the fish tasted like flour instead of fish. A hit or miss. On some days, their prized dish, the baked catfish, is to die for. Succulent, crispy skin and seasoned perfectly with garnishes. But on those bad days, the fish is smushy, smelly, and soggy skinned. If youre a catfish fan, definitely try out their unique dish. They also have a five course beef dish which is common but decent. Antiquated interior is reminiscent of the 80s, and their wine is terrible. They leave their white wine uncorked and exposed in the frigerator sitting next to their Thai ice tea, which you could probably imagine, didnt taste very pleasant. Beer is served by the bottle and glasses are not served. Service is acceptable but hostess is unpleasant and rude.

This is one of my favorite places for Vietnamese food. I have been coming for about 20 years now and the quality hasnt changed one bit. The rice paper they use for egg rolls is crunchy and delicious all at once. Another amazing dish is the bún thịt nướng, with the beef being sweet and well-seasoned. The place of especially famous for their roasted catfish - the skin is savory and crisp and the fish sauce cannot be adequately put into words. Although the restaurant is old, it is still very well kept.

My favorite Vietnamese restaurant in America, seriously! Not really a pho place, but more like a semi upscale place that serves fresh made summer rolls, or even DIY rolls (get the kit with the whole cat fish, fantastic), and offers a great Vietnamese style shabu-shabu where you cook your own prawns and fish in a delicious broth marinated with other clams and mollusks. Oh so fresh, tasty, and tender! Even other grilled meats like their steak dish was amazingly flavorful and tender. I come here every time I visit southern California. Im very envious as we do not have any Vietnamese restaurant of this caliber in New York city (we used to have some decent grilled meats and seafood bouillabaisse at Saigon Grill, now defunct), and for anything remotely as good we need to go down to the Washington DC area (large Vietnamese population). Looking forward to my next visit at Favori!

This is my favorite spot to eat ca nuong. We often come here to eat ca nuong ( fried/grilled catfish) and lau bap chuoi ( banana blossom hot pot). The service here is spectacular. The dipping sauces are up to par! I also get the anchovy dipping sauce and with some Sliced pickled lemongrass! So good! I just only wish they give some more herbs and lettuce! The hot pot is really good! The perfect combination of sweet and sour!

I had never tried Vietnamese cuisine. While it is true that I am not a fan of spicy flavors and foods, this place and its food fascinated me. Everything we ate during dinner was, even those that made it impossible for me to eat due to the presence of spiciness, they were all delicious. That combination of vegetables and then meat, both fish and pork, is really fabulous. The rice is a complete delight and the soups are the same. Careful and perfect attention. We accompany it with a delicious lively red Coppolla. Even the frog legs were delicious. 100% recommended culinary experience.
