It would be nice if it was a little more welcoming. As much as McDonald’s makes they could care about their history more. I wish they had a better retail area. But after all that complaining it’s a really cool part of American history. Even better that it’s free. There’s a military museum next door but I didn’t go in. I loved seeing all the old toys. N they also have a bathroom. No snacks that i saw.

It was so amazing to relive part of my childhood there. A lot of memorabilia. You can purchase some stickers, souvenirs, and magnets. The entrance is free which is great. It could be a good 45 min approx to go through the museum. I will be coming back again in the future. I took one star away because I think they could do a little bit better on restoring and maintenance for the exterior. It could use some paint and restoration for the iconic childrens games.

Thought it was going to be boring but we had a great time looking at everything. All those toys reminded me of my childhood and made me laugh and smile…. Also, it was very interesting that they had McDonald’s toys from other countries, so that was super fun to see.

I been wanting to go here for a long time. Finally got the chance to be in California and check the place it. They guy who worked there was very nice and very knowledgeable about McDonalds. However I was not impressed with the place. I guess I just expected more toys and to be more organized.

Incredible experience for anyone who grew up eating McDonalds! I’m not a fan and haven’t eaten at McDonalds in decades but I was driving through San Bernardino and thought I would stop in. I had recently watched The Founder so I like McDonalds even less than before! :) That said, I had really low expectations but the minute I walked in and saw the Mac Tonight sign my brain was flooded with memories and it continued through out the museum. It’s hard to describe the experience of remembering toys I got in Happy Meals when I was 5 years old. I was transported to childhood and I was almost in tears at times! Even writing this and looking back at the photos I’m getting emotional. I definitely recommend it!

This little odd quirky off-beat museum is chalk full of nostalgia for baby boomers and gen xers alike from the boatloads of kitschy Happy Meal toys to McDonalds amusement playground attractions. This place is a time capsule for one of the most significant American pop culture icons at the actual site where it all began. When one enters inside, it is reminiscent of stepping into the Twilight Zone as much as stepping into the past. It is not associated officially with the McDonalds Corporation or any of its restaurants, but it is an homage to the genesis of the very first eatery developed by the two brothers who gave this chain their namesake. The museum attendant is an incredibly friendly fellow. Plus, the entrance is free.

An amazing experience and well worth the Motorcycle ride up here from Oceanside. Just the outside of the building is impressive, clad in a informative and entertaining Wheres Waldo kind of a mural, filled with people, pop culture, well known vehicles, and all based around regional history. Scooby-Doo Doo Van and other McDonalds props and playground equipment. Great for pics! The inside has Happy Meal toys from decades and countries with a knowledgeable docent on McDonalds history on the real founders, not the crook, Kroc. Worth a visit! Also a military museum next door and a retro arcade we will be back to see.

A really fun site memorializing the first McDonalds restaurant site. Its not exactly what I expected with alot of history of the site, and the vast majority filled with memorabilia and happy meal toys across history and around the world. Apparently, all items were donated. Its not very curated, alot of items are just kind of haphazardly arranged. The employees were nice but seemed a bit bitter to show how theyre not affiliated with the McDonalds corporation and how separate they were. It was fun to see old happy meal toys from when I was a kid.

A special place, many guests visits daily, so many collections around the world can be seen. If your kids play outside the museum, look out the car parking and moving on two directional traffic, the only one unisex available restroom cant fultil the demand. It is located a little far outskirt of LA region, about 80 miles from the LA metro. Other than that that is a good place to visit the birthplace of the biggest fast food chain McDonald. I would recommend watch Founder movie before visiting this place. Make sure include the commute time on your trip which take up longer.

Such a fun museum!!!!!!!! The assistant curator Marvin Hernandez is amazing! He is so knowledgeable! So neat to see all of the memorabilia. Old slides and a merry-go-round that we grew up with at McDonalds! So many precious fun memories! Like I had forgotten about the trees with faces that were at McDonalds back in the day!!!!!! Also the hamburgler!!!!!! Remember him?!!!! He always stole hamburgers!!!!! So much fun!!!! Admission is free, but you should donate!!!!!!

Worth a stop, whether youre traveling Route 66 or just in the area. Youll find lots of sections of McDonalds memorabilia from most countries. The man who runs it knows his stuff about the area and the Route. He was very helpful and went out of his way to help.

This place was awesome! All of the happy meal toys that were on display provided for the absolute coolest nostalgia trip Ive had in such a long time. The gentleman overseeing the place was very kind and inviting, and even shared some great recommendations for places to stop on my trip out in California. Theres even a souvenir penny machine in here to boot! I would recommend this place to every single person who finds themselves driving down route 66 in San Bernardino.

Unfortunately we passed through early in the morning before they opened but it was still cool to see the original McDonalds. They have all of the very first characters. The Hamburglar on the sign arch is the best. The side of the building is covered in artwork. Very nostalgic. Next time were in the area well try again.

This is a historic and interesting place. Its filled with historical facts and images of the founders as well as menu items and many other artifacts. They even have the mystery machine ( from scooby doo). 😎😎. They don’t serve food but you can go back in time with memorable magnets that you will probably not get anywhere outside.

Finally came to this bucketlist spot. It did not disappoint. Every happy meal toy on display! Brought back so many memories. The guy at the front was super cool as well. He told us we were #47 customer for the day. Lol Friendly vibes for sure. Free parking, free entry, and restroom available. One more thing, they have the Worlds Most Detailed Mural outside of their building. This place is too good not to visit. Definitely recommend anyone to come. Fun Fact it was bought from Juan Pollo in East Los.

Amazing historical site. This is the place where the biggest restaurant chain of the world was founded. After seeing the movie ‘The Founder’ I just had to visit this, now, museum. The staff welcomes you on a more than friendly way and tells you all about the past of this place.

It is a free entry museum, and definitely worth the visit if you are in the area, even if you need to take a detour. Lot of history and memoriblia. The staff was very knowledgeable. It is free but donations are welcome. Do not forget to buy your magnet!

Googled things around the San Bernardino area and this place came up. I thought it would be cool to see. The place close at 5, so I didnt get a chance to go but taking pictures did bring back childhood memories and seeing other different things as well. Hope work will permit, to where I will get a chance to go inside to see whats in store. Will definitely recommend to see where the history started for McDonalds.

What an awesome trip through the history of McDonalds. We decided to stop at the McDonalds Museum on our way though San Bernardino on Route 66. The museum is not in the nicest of neighborhoods but it was a quick fun stop for the kids and us on our travels. Its also free to enter and people stop here from all over the world. It was fun showing the kids the toys of our past and the playground stuff that we played on at McDonalds as kids.The murals outside the building are so detailed and my son loved posing in front of the Mystery Machine from Scooby Doo.All of the toys and memorabilia are donated by people all over the world and it was great seeing the differences in marketing and packaging throughout the world and the beginning of McDonalds. There are plaques around the outside memorabilia telling you more about the history.If you have a McDonalds fan I definitly recommend stopping here for a quick stop if your headed through San Bernardino.

Yes, this was a minor to-do on our bucket list, but since my husband had time off work, we thought it would be the best time to pay it a visit and cross it off our list. For anyone who has grown up with McDonalds or has loved it at any time in their life, this is the museum for you! First of all, you must know that there is NO food sold or obtainable at this location. However, they do sell canned sodas. It is only a museum. The only items you CAN purchase are nostalgic memorabilia which includes; magnets, pins, stickers, mugs, key chains, t-shirts, sweatshirts, lanyards, and hats. Since there are no fees whatsoever for parking or entrance into the museum, you can make a donation if you wish. This will go to keeping the museum free and up and running. Besides the thousands upon thousands of happy meal toys and all things McDonalds that are securely displayed in many clear viewing cases from its inception beginning 1948 until the present, you will find all the history you ever wanted to know regarding McDonalds. There is also a very knowledgeable tour guide available if youd like that option. The outside is filled with all the toy rides you may remember seeing out in front of various McDonalds through the years. The whole exterior of the building is painted in a giant mural of seemingly thousands of pictures depicting the history of San Bernardino, California. Outside, there are other surprises like a giant Bugs Bunny, The Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine, and even a giant hot dog on a bun, plus much more. Near the street, there is a sign which designates this location as a Historical Landmark, as well as other markers spread around the front commemorating something about the location. The tour guide on duty when we visited mentioned that people come from all over the world to see this very first McDonalds! Right when we were there, a group was visiting from Belgium! We were told that just the week before, people visited from Africa! Plan your visit to this iconic spot, and dont forget your cameras or to sign the guest book.

The curators of this museum are very friendly and very passionate about the collection. It is a real treat to go back down memory lane and see all of the old happy meal toys. There is a little bit of a dark side to backstory of how McDonald’s came to be. I was very surprised to see how many people from all over the world came to visit this museum. I met people from France and Brazil when I was there. This is a classic route 66 stop.

This is a MUST for anyone whose grandma took them to McDonalds as a kid. My husband and I are products of the 80s and the playground toys are so reminiscent of our childhoods. We took a bunch of photos and we all know that those speak for themselves. This place was full of people visiting from other countries. Very cool!Go visit! If youre interested in exploring the history of McDonalds and want to see A LOT of Happy Meal toys then this is the destination for you. We stopped in on the drive from LA to Palm Springs and spent half an hour looking at all the displays. The chap working there was very polite and made us feel welcome.When you factor in that it was free and I can now bore people for the rest of my life telling them Ive been to the site of the first ever McDonalds, it was definitely worth the slight detour and deserves top marks.FYI you cant buy a hamburger here (just in case you were wondering) but there is a McDonalds 30 seconds up the road (as youd expect).

My family and I are doing a Route 66 vacation and we stopped here on our way out of LA. It is NOT worth a stop. This is NOT the first original McDonalds. They actually have a display in the building detailing how it is not the first McDonalds or ever a McDonalds. To be fair it has a lot of old McDonalds stuff like happy meal toys or outdoor kids toys but its just a building that some dude bought and put all this stuff in it.

I love this place. Aside from it being free, it’s very informative. It takes you back to your childhood and has so much history in it. I love that they even have competitors toys and Happy Meal toys across the globe. Came here on a weekend. There was a little crowd but no wait to enter. They do have parking too. This is a truly hidden treasure. I heard that the first McDonalds was in SanBernardino. So, I hunted it down and paid it a visit. As soon as you walk in, the friendly employees take you on a free tour, informing you about the entire phases of McDonalds. It is such a nice flashback. I remember a lot of the happy meal toys that are on display. It is owned by the owner of Juan Pollo. He decided to give it the attention that it deserves. How nice.

Please understand that this is NOT a McDonalds, but a Historic McDonalds Museum. They have a bunch of McDonalds memorabilia from through the chains history (and before!). It is a very cool stop for any road trip that brings you out this way... but I wouldnt necessarily make the trip just for this if youre far away. Youll spend less than a half hour here unless youre a HUGE fan and read every little thing.The highlights for me were for sure seeing the old trees and the cheeseburger jail jungle gym that used to be in McDonalds playgrounds in the 80s (and before!). Ill add picture of these. That was for sure the highlight.While they sell keychains and a few other small things, there really isnt even a gift shop. They do sell water and some soda. I was between 3 and 4 stars on this but seeing the big items again made me choose a 4. Very glad we did it... but probably wouldnt go back unless I heard that they got some other big items. It sounded like they didnt have plans on expanding.If youre into weird California roadside stuff... this is a must!

Found this online and debated whether to go out of our way to get there because people mentioned how small it is and how little time you spend there. My kids are college age and we were all glad we went. Amazing stuff and the enthusiasm of the staff is great! On the outside it is on Route 66 and has some historic markers which were interesting. Very interesting place. The gentleman that was behind the counter was very polite. This was our 1st time here and it was amazing. There is no entry charge but they do accept donations. There is also another building that has old military items/memorabilia things. We did not get a chance to visit that part because we had other things to do but we will be back another day and spend a little more time there. The place is clean and organized. I highly recommend this place to be on your bucket list of things to do in San Bernardino. You will not be disappointed!

If youre passing through the San Bernardino area be sure to drop by and check this place out. Its completely free and LOTS to look at including historical bits, uniforms, menus, play structures, packaging, and of course mcky D toys galore. So many memories from my childhood were conjured up here. You shouldnt expect a grand display or anything (it literally looks like a huge yardsale if Im being honest lol) but there are way too many cool things in here to care about that. Also the worker there was nice and gave us some cool recommendations for the area too.

Woof woof! As a dog, I must say that my human took me to the best place ever - the first McDonalds! I felt like I was in a treasure hunt just like Indiana Jones, but with a bonus - delicious burgers! I could smell them from miles away and my tail was wagging with excitement.The place was just paw-some - the staff was friendly and gave me lots of pats and treats. And the burgers... oh my dog, they were so juicy and tasty! I could barely contain my drool. The atmosphere was also great, with colorful decorations and music that made me want to dance.Even though I cant eat burgers every day, I will never forget this amazing experience at the first McDonalds. If youre a dog like me and love burgers, or just looking for a fun adventure, then you must visit this place. 5 paws out of 5!

The First Original Mcdonalds Museum is a nice curation of the history of McDonalds in a location that is debated as the first McDonalds restaurant. The original building does not exist but the arches are from the time McDonalds was established at the site.

Glad we came by, definitely worth a stop! The museum has a ton of items, lots of things I didn’t know existed. Everything is community donated, and a lot of the items have pictures of the person who donated next to them - I thought that was a nice touch. This place is awesome 👍👍👍👍 They have many vintage McDonalds happy meal toys, statues, & advertisements. I loved seeing so many things from when I was a kid displayed there, including the styrofoam food boxes that they stopped using in 1990. They even had a lot of antiques that weren’t related to McDonalds. Definitely want to be back real soon 😁

This is the site of the first McDonalds restaurant, but not the actual building. The original building was unfortunately demolished in the early 2000s. However they have artifacts from that original structure.This is more of a McDonalds museum. Lots of Happy Meal toys and uniforms throughout the ages on display.We were kind of disappointed, because I was under the impression that the original McDonalds was up and running and still serving hamburgers.No food is served here.

For a free museum, its not bad at all. They have some really cool stuff from the original first McDonalds. And some cool McDonaldLand stuff like the officer big mac jail.However, I feel it could use a major overhaul. The vast majority of it is happy meal toys. Happy meal toys definitely have their place in a McDonalds museum, but there are repeats of happy meal toys everywhere so you end up looking at the same stuff over and over. Plus, there is entire section dedicated to Burger King and Taco Bell toys. Why??My recommendation: Declutter the displays. Have people walkthrough a McDonalds timeline. Focus on more of McDonalds history outside of toys. Have more plaques and signs throughout explaining the story behind different items. There are already things that talk about when certain menu items were introduced. Between that and McDonaldLand you could have a great timeline going of McDonalds history.I love McDonalds history, so if you ever do decide to overhaul hit me up and I would totally revisit.

I visited the First Original McDonalds Museum as part of a road trip around California, and Im so glad I did. Its absolutely packed with all kinds of items from all around the world, and the displays are attractive and informative. Its going to trigger nostalgia for just about anyone, the old packaging was a highlight for me. The curator was very friendly and knowledgeable and pointed out some interesting items for me and filled me in on some history, as well as recommending me other places to visit on my trip.

Wasnt sure what to expect of this museum in the heart of the hood in San Bernardino, but wanted to see it. Definitely brought back childhood memories of happy meals as I pulled into the parking lot. Walked in and you got hit with a musty odor. The place had no air con and just fans blowing all over.Its fairly small with lots of display cases showing toys and memorabilia from years past and from other countries.Quite a few tourists came through, and most just enjoyed taking pictures with the sign out front.Pretty underwhelming visit, like going through someones toy closet. I dont recommend going, but I did want to get a happy meal afterwards.

This is a nice place to stop for a nostalgic experience. There are tons of McDonalds memorabilia and stuff from decades gone by. All kinds of things from happy meal toys and boxes to actual petrified foods from long ago. Stuff from every country where McDonalds has a restaurant is there. Pretty interesting really. Just to start this is totally free!!! Which already put me in an awesome mood. Its a little museum put up for the first McDonalds by the guy that owns Juan Pollo. Very cute little museum, very nostalgic. Because I grew up on McDonalds Im probably a fan already and not inclined to find a lot of fault. As I said very nostalgic, probably wont take you more than 10-20 minutes at most. I also dont know that I would go back but it was definitely worth the visit. Theyve done a very dedicated job of finding a lot of memorabilia about McDonalds.
