I recently dined at Fish in Sausalito, California, and I have mixed feelings about my experience. On the positive side, the restaurants atmosphere was truly delightful. Nestled in the scenic coastal town, it provided a wonderful setting for a relaxing meal with beautiful views.However, I was somewhat disappointed with the food. While it was decent, I expected a bit more from a seafood restaurant in such a location, especially for the price. The real letdown, though, was the service. The gentleman at the counter appeared disinterested and unhelpful when it came to making recommendations or answering questions about the menu. This aspect of the dining experience left me wishing for more. Overall, Fish offers a fantastic ambiance, but it falls short when it comes to both food quality and attentive service.

Fish, situated on the Sausalito boat dock, presents a mix of hits and misses. First off, there’s plenty of free parking. Secondly, service was quick and efficient. You order in line, find a place to sit (indoors or outdoors), and wait for your food to arrive. Thirdly, there’s a lot of dishes to choose from. These are what we ordered - The fish and chips, although seasoned well, were disappointingly oily. The clam pasta, which had good reviews, lacked flavor. The dozen of mixed oysters werent properly shucked. And, they were not inexpensive. On the bright side, the clam chowder stood out and the view was captivating.While the meal had its high and low points, the delightful clam chowder and scenic view added value to the experience. Unfortunately, we will not be going back. There are other seafood places worth trying.

Fish Restaurant is pretty awesome. On a nice day, it is great to sit in the sun in their patio. We had their crab roll $42, fish & chips $24 and a poke bowl $25. My friends thought their crab roll was better than the ones at Woodhouse in SF. The butter on the buns made it great. On the fish & chips, the fish pieces were smaller than the ones from the Codmother in SF. This was still good because the potato wedges. The poke bowl was refreshing. Bonus points for bicycle parking in the patio. Great job everyone at Fish Restaurant.

Definitely one of the best seafood restaurants that I had. The food is superb, and the seafood is fresh. As for the price, it is on the higher side. $12 for each of the kids meals, $27 for the Salmon pasta, $24 for the Fish & Chips, $12 for the bowl of Clam Chowder, $15 for a glass of Sangria (not in the photos). I forgot to mention that the pasta is freshly made, extremely chewy and tasty. Even though the line to order is long, it goes by instantly. They have plenty of servers, and foods are served in time. If I ever stop by SF, I will definitely stop by here again.

Portuguese clam chowder, fish and chips and Saigon salmon sandwich. Taste was so good. Spent the afternoon there with great waterfront view. And of course that lead to ordering a latte. I didnt like the chowder that much, but the fish n chips was soo good.

There’s always a line when you get here but it moves quickly. The food is amazing and delicious. It’s certainly fresh seafood. My favorite dish here, so far, is the Saigon salmon sandwich. I highly recommend. And the plate comes with more than enough French fries. The tuna melt is also a great sandwich to have, they pack it with a lot of tuna…it’s so worth it.

The view is great overlooking the Marina. The staff is awesome. My white chowder was good. Their slaw is on point. Didnt care much for their clams, idk something about the brith they were in. And the $22 burger wasnt worth it, in my opinion. My gf killed their fish tacos and went in on the clams, ha. I REALLY wanted their fish n chips but didnt get it. I would recommend getting it by the looks of all others who ordered it.

Love this gem in Sausalito. My highlight this trip was a special of the day: tender and flavorful steamed baby cauliflower served up with delicious lemony creme fraiche and salmon roe.I, of course, got the $50 Dungeness crab roll and was once again amazed by the sheer amount of crab. But I must admit, I was less enthused this time about the sandwich overall, because Ive now had the crab roll at the New England Fish Market on the peninsula, and its the better sandwich and better deal overall. This just means I wont feel guilty next time I go to FISH and order something else!My friend had large and tasty fried oysters with potato wedges, and she was pleased, though she found the Old Bay potato chips too salty. I think Ive just become one with Old Bay now, since I use it so much, and I enjoyed the chips.Now what should I order next time I go? Maybe the salmon sandwich? Or fish bao tacos?

While visiting the area we visited Fish. on a suggestion from a family member in the culinary field. The venue is set up where you order food from the counter, find a seat, and wait for them to deliver it. We both got bowls of clam chowder to accompany an order of fish and chips and the fish smash burger. The clam chowder was pretty good. Earlier in our trip we had a superior clam chowder from the Monterey area and we couldn’t help but make comparisons, however, it was still enjoyable. The fish and chips was also just pretty good for me. The fish was lacking a certain umph of flavor and potato wedges aren’t necessarily my favorite type of fry. The fries that came with the fish smash burger were cooked and seasoned well. The fish smash burger wasn’t my girlfriend’s favorite. She ultimately thought the American cheese included with it threw off the taste. All in all Fish. had a lot of promise. If we were to return, we would definitely try other items on the menu.

We were in Muir woods and wanted a nice lunch with a view afterwards. We stopped in and I was surprised it was counter service . After we looked over the menu it made sense . I was hoping for table service so we could relax and be served . But it worked out fine and the weather and food was great . Fish n chips and tuna melt was fantastic, fluffy batter on the fish and the bread on the tuna sandwich must have been made in house .Great spot for a view on a nice day .

The seafood here is well done but it’s expensive given - the portions are really not that big and loaded up w french fries to fill the plates - majority of the seating is outside and no real lighting or heaters - everyone in my party enjoyed their meal - but the view is mediocre - worthy but not 5 star

We drove for an hour and fifteen minutes to reach our beloved seafood joint, Fish, in Sausalito for a leisurely long weekend. For starters, we went with the clam dip, which was decent but not our top pick. On the other hand, the Saigon salmon sandwich was a hit, and we would order it again without hesitation. However, the ultimate star of our meal was the Dungeness crab roll. The crab meat was delightful and full of flavor, and the bread was toasted to perfection. Despite the price tag of $49, the crab roll was undoubtedly worth it as the portion size was very generous. It was hands down the best crab roll weve ever had in the San Francisco Bay Area. We highly recommend Fish Restaurant in Sausalito and suggest arriving early to beat the rush, but be prepared to wait nonetheless.

Hidden gem. Secluded in a marina, views are great, you can have a calm enjoyable meal. Staff friendly and helpful. You order in by yourself and they bring the food to your table. Wines were simple and good, portions generous. I had a very tasty crab roll, expensive but worth the taste. Husband had squids on a salad, he should have had them with the fresh linguine but still good but he wasn’t satisfied:))

Not quite sure it justifies the hype, but the ultra fresh, dripping with butter Dungeness crab roll might really be worth the 49 dollars. Steamed mussels were good but a clam dip was disappointing - also not sure about the everyone line up for just one cash register approach to ordering, much less service folks wandering around looking for customers without anything to identify who ordered what!

Great place for a casual meal and tasteful fish dishes. We came after a hike for a meal, so casual vibes are welcome, but it’s still a very clean and welcoming cafe style atmosphere. Located next the a yacht harbor right on the water, definitely sit outside if the weather allows. There is not much indoor sitting otherwise.Be sure to get the KFC Bao Tacos. One of the best fish taco style dishes out there. We also got the normal fish tacos, and the Louie Salad with crab. Very delicious meals, but not particularly unique, as you can get these types of dishes at any other fish market/restaurant.I will always make it a point to return to Fish. and get the KFC Bao Tacos again.

Location, Location, Location!!! This restaurant is located on a beautiful harbor waterfront. Pack your patience, this restaurant can get really busy with lines out the door and down parking lot sidewalk; however, it moves pretty quickly. I tried my first shrimp Louie and it was pretty good, but way to much thousand island dressing for me (I would request the sauce on the side). To their credit, they were not stingy with the shrimp. In addition, I grabbed the house fish & chips; I swore I tasted the beer batter and the fish tasted extremely fresh. I could have used a couple more pieces of fish. My friend enjoyed her clam chowder.

And the cashier stalked the cookies, walked up the front, didnt look at us at all. The girl in the back final asked him if we were waiting for something or if we needed to order. He looked at us and then asked if we needed something? Than, took our order. I was looking forward to the crab sandwich, I have ordered before. It was open faced and lots of crab meat!! I was a little disappointed when I received a closed sandwich with little crab meat and about $15 dollars more. Tons of fries. Its still a good sandwich.

We were in Sausalito picking up a car after our last Prius was totaled in an accident. We still dont know who is at fault, but the guy we bought the car from recommended we check out the food scene. Typically when we buy a car maybe miles from home we stop for lunch so thats what we did. The wife found this place. Fish. Like, with a period.Fish.Sustainable. Shes a tree higher so this was right down her alley. We happened to come on a day that a boat show was happening so we had to park really far despite the general area having lots of parking natively. The streets surrounding were flooded but didnt prevent us from getting to the restaurant. We dont know how popular the place was but they had a decent line which we barely beat. Not sure if it is the reputation of the place or the boat show but business was jumping. This place is located next to the water and cannot be seen from the street.Lets talk about my food. Clam chowder was decent. Not as good as monster chowder. More bacon, not as creamy and less... Punchy? But still good. I dont think I would crave it.BAO tacos with fried fish. Fish was decent but the BAO was amazing. For those wondering, these are basically the bread from an Asian shopao or the ones that accompany roast duck. Their version was fluffy and full and awesome. You would not expect to see this at a fish restaurant but there was a theme of Asian fusion here.Fish n chips. It was okay. Alaskan cod with beer batter and was on the puffy oily side. I prefer my FNC to be less oily and not puffy. Flavor was ok. Tarter sauce was a 5 on my 10 scale. Fries were a 4 and were really filling but not in a good way. It wasnt bad but was not satisfying. My family owned a fish n chips in the 90s so I like to think I have a palette for it.This place seemed popular. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating. It wasnt standing to me but that was in a limited sampling of 3 things. I would not go out of my way to come back but did not have a bad experience at all. If someone I was with wanted to go I would not say no. Try it and see what you think. I feel it is worth the stop in to see what the buzz may be about and if your buds might like it better than mine did.

Fish. was a delicious treat on a foggy day in the Bay. I enjoyed the dungeons crab roll. As one of the most expensive items on the menu, I was skeptical whether or not it would live up to its price. It was absolutely delicious with a fresh bun, and plenty of butter and flavor. It was divine! My husband had the trout dog which was totally out of the box and delicious. The oysters were fresh and tasty! The atmosphere is celebratory with friends ordering pitchers of beer and wine bottles to share. There are plenty of kids menu items such as fish sticks and grilled cheeses. We waited in line for about thirty minutes but our food was served quickly. We will for sure be back!

On my way to Sonoma, I stopped here. This place was packed. Lines were long waiting to place an order, but its totally worth it. I got their specials, salmon on a bed of salad. The cashier recommended me to have it medium to medium rare, but because I cant eat when its on the rawish side, I had it well done and the best decision ever. It was so good. There were little oranges like fruit and it was the best thing Ive had.

Lovely lunch spot. Freshly-caught grilled black cod overlooking the water was exactly what I needed after a long cycle up to Sausalito. There was a bit of a wait but not too bad, and somewhere to park the bike. This was recommended to us by a friend and we were so glad we followed the recommendation. My son had oak-grilled rainbow trout on linguine. This fish was tender and the skin crisp. I had linguine and clams. This was the first time I can remember the dish being served with the clams still in the shells. The linguine was freshly made. It was also served with a big slice of bread to soak up the broth, which was not big enough. We ended up asking for more so that we could soak up more of that delicious goodness. The views from the deck overlooking the bay and marina were spectacular.

Food is excellent. My favorite is the linguine with clams. We counted them and there were 35 clams in the bowl. It is a little spicy as there are red pepper flakes in it, but its just the right amount of heat. Use the excellent bread to sop up the juices. My daughter had the salmon and it was perfectly cooked. Theres almost always a wait on weekends but the line tends to move quickly. Most tables are outside so be prepared for the weather conditions. There are a few picnic tables and high top tables inside. Its right on the water, so gulls and crows are occasionally an issue but not usually. Staff is helpful and very pleasant.

After flying into San Francisco, my husband and I hoped in our rental car and drove 45 minutes to Fish. per a recommendation we received from a friend. The line was long when we got there for lunch, but it moved quickly. The menu had so many things on it we wanted to try. We ended up ordering the fish and chips, clam dip, and ceviche. It was all delicious and just want we wanted after a long day of traveling. The deck area overlooks the boat docks, and it was the perfect spot to kick off our California trip!

Clam chowder, fish n chips, Caesar salad, lemonade -- so good. Perfect combo for a bit of a nicer lunch on a road trip. The Boston white clam chowder is the best Ive had in California, I dont know what they put in it (maybe a touch of white wine?) but I could eat it for ages + not get tired. Fish n chips: so juicy, well seasoned, crispy shell (probably made from batter). The wedge fries that came with it were the best texture/size (crispy outside, slightly moist innards). Caesar salad: great dressing, cheese, quality ingredients; croutons seasoned. Tart lemonade, good for a hot day.Atmosphere: chill w high quality food. Somewhat self-serve (water, theyll give you a tray w any ready-to-eat foods) but otherwise most food is delivered to you on patio. Unfortunately little to no shade on patio -- or rather, the tables w umbrellas get taken up first. Still pleasant coz next to the water. Not much of a view but its fun looking at the seagulls and boats in harbor.Would definitely come again.

Great casual seafood restaurant with lots of outdoor seating right on the water. The dungeness crab roll is my favorite. Its pricey but worth it. A generous amount of hot lump crab with butter and chives on the softest roll ever. Im glad I opted for salad instead of fries because it was so good with house made garlic croutons, spring greens, radish slices, golden beets, and even bits of fingerling potatoes tossed in a lemon vinaigrette.

We stopped for dinner on a Friday evening and found it unexpectedly not too busy. We ordered crab sandwiches and mussels. The sandwiches were delicious and filling. The mussels we quite good although the preparation of the day -- tomato based -- was not the garlic/wine that is my favorite. Customer service was whack. The manager was not very professional. They brought out my kid pasta and it was cold and then I told them to make him a grilled cheese sandwich and then I said there and watched him bring out someone else’s pasta and they had other items along like it was a seafood pasta, but I have mussels and clams in there so when I address the manager and told him he told me that that’s because it’s a different pasta but no difference of any type of pasta should be cold. Everyone pasta should be hot. he told me he bought my child’s pasta out 10 minutes ago and I sat there and watched another woman eat her food and her food was hot for a very long time he still was smoking when I was talking to the manager so I do not like this restaurant The fish was good and not one time did a employee come to the table and ask us was everything OK or do we need any more drinks? Do we need any more napkins and how else can we assist you or anything like that? The manager is so unprofessional when you go out to eat you’re supposed to make sure the customer is pleased he did not make me feel pleased at all

I recently visited Fish with high expectations, which unfortunately were not met. I started with the tuna carpaccio, which, while finely sliced, lacked the depth of flavor I anticipated. The accompanying French bread did not seem freshly baked, diminishing the overall quality of the dish. Additionally, the salad was dressed with vinegar without my consultation, which I found quite presumptuous. The restaurant comes with the reputation of being a culinary gem, hence the wait, but after spending 30 minutes in line, I must say the experience did not live up to its acclaim. In all, I find Fish to be somewhat overrated and feel that the dining experience could be significantly improved.

Its been a few years since Ive last visited Fish and thought Id give it another go. Ive been wanting to have fish and chips for a while now and thought Id go this place another shot. It was pretty busy on the day I was there and the food took about 10-15 min to be delivered to my table. Upon first inspection the fish looked good, the batter was ok and the colour was a nice & golden. Sadly the taste was bland and nothing to write home about. Can they not find a decent piece of fish to fry up. Im from NZ and every corner mum & pop fish & chip shop would run rings around this joint for a third of the price. The chips were horrendous, whoever thought this was a good idea for chips needs to go back to culinary school. They looked and tasted like someone was making home fries in their kitchen for the first time. How hard is it make good french fries. For a place that calls themselves Fish I would have expected better. Sad to say I wont be back.

I have not reviewed any place since the pandemic started and to honest it is more difficult to review takeout places since this is new to many establishments and their food is best served in the restaurant. Takeout food often loses quality during transportation. However, I must give a shout out to Fish. My hub and I are on the search (starting today ) for perfect fish and chips that are crisp, crunching and delicious. Fish did not disappoint. I figured that the drive home would ruin the meal and the crust and fries would be soggy and a mushy mess. Well woo-hoo Fish have takeout fish and chips down to perfection. Crispy, favorable and if course of the highest quality. And as in the past, the staff are friendly, professional and engaging while still keeping distance.So friends, it is worth the drive and cost during a time unlike we have experienced before. I ordered the catch of the day which was halibut. It was really good. I want find of the pasta it came with. It tasted a little too fishy. For a drink I ordered lemonade. It was good but when I asked for a refill, I was told they dont give refills. I also ordered garlic bread but they didnt bring any so I looked on my receipt and they didnt charge me for it either. I love this place. We’ve been here numerous times over the years and have never been disappointed. The line is long but it’s worth the wait. Head straight to the bar and grab something to drink while you wait in line. They always have good beers and great wines. They recently added more items to the menu but I’ll always highly recommend the Fish and Chips. I also recommend the Tuna Melt and Fish Bit Salad with Salmon Belly.

There is something truly incredible about the linguine with clams (best I’ve ever had). Every month or so I will get a hankering and will happily drive 50 minutes to enjoy it by the water. The white chowder is one of the best weve had. It was wonderfully creamy with the broth made with bacon. Yes, it is that good. My grilled trout was cooked to perfection and the seasoning allowed the rich flavor of the fish to come through. My salad was fresh and tasty. My husband had a Saigon Salmon Sandwich which he devoured. The piece of salmon was generously sized. Ive eaten here before and the food was delicious. In terms of food, the prices are steep when you compare to other similar restaurants in the city and peninsula. I have been here many times. Mostly been happy. Yesterday was a disaster. Table was super dirty and even though I asked multiple times to get it cleaned, nothing happened. Kids pasta were cold. I ordered the trout but got the salmon. It was totally undercooked. They re-did it. The salmon was on salad and included lots of brown leaves and the end of a head of lettuce. All in all it was mostly bad. For the price this place is charging, I would expect way more. Having to order indoors makes it also so much harder to communicate with anyone. Came with my friends after the hike yesterday. Ordered spicy poke bowl and the bowl was half empty. Paid $27 something with tax. I was shocked when I saw how small it was and I am a person that gets full fairly quickly. Well, not this time. It was more like an appetizer size. Awful! Casual atmosphere (pay at front, find a table to sit down, plastic trays), and full indoors for a Monday night. Our family always comes to this place. Not only is the food super delicious but the atmosphere by the water eating outside very peaceful. Went on a non holiday Sunday, decently sunny but not even a particularly nice day yet the line was out the door past the patio gate. Was with a friend who choose the place so we got in line and (somewhat) patiently waited. And waited, and waited about 35 minutes just to order.On top of that, the restrooms are around the back of the building, very small and horrifically maintained. (Was only ~3pm so not near closing) In addition it is cash only so be prepared or use the ATM they have inside (3dollar fee).I am all for sustainable, local food but I dont thrill this place was worth the cost, wait and drive out past downtown Sausalito.They were out of halibut so the fish and chip we ordered used a lower quality fish (price was discounted to $21) they were crisp, 2 larger pieces and two smaller ones with a generous mound of chips (potatoes wedges) the fish was just way too saturated in oil, I tried dabbing a bit with a napkin but honestly it was just soaked through. The chips were less greasy, decently crisp on the outside but a bit mushy potato-y on the inside.Must say, the tarter sauce was quite good though.Also ordered the tuna melt, crunch outside of sand which, generous amounts of fish, but far too mushy and sausy, with too many capers- almost lost the sense of actual albacore and tuna.Came with shoestring fries, a lot of them but rather than shoestring fries they were really the standard thickness.Decent at first when they were warm but they got cold fast and then became extraordinarily hard, not crispy but just stale/hard.I like the outdoor seating and general concept yet unfortunately the price was not worth the quality of food, and I felt a tad sick after, definitely needed a nap after only half the tuna melt and 1.5 pieces of the Fish chips due to the heavy amounts of grease.

Fish is incredibly popular for reasons I cannot understand. Firstly, they had perhaps the worst clam chowder I’ve ever tasted. How do you ruin clam chowder? It’s a juicy, creamy blend of all of the best ingredients. At Fish, they managed to make it bland, goopy, and seriously lacking bacon.Fish is nice for a beer and maybe some fish and chips to snack on after a long day. That said, it is not a place for a nice dinner.The service was also inafishent.

The food was amazing, delicious very fresh fish. We got the trout Reuben and salmon banh mi, both of which were incredible. The portions were huge too. We got an appetizer and two sandwiches, and each sandwich came with dinner-sized salads on the side. We could have easily split one entree and been satisfied, but instead we left happily stuffed. Really lovely location and they have a fireplace inside.

Went here after a hike at Fort Baker and desperately needed some clam chowder to refuel. Had the New England style and was a bit disappointed that it was a bit thin and soupy. Also, it needed to be HOT, not just warm. It was difficult to find the clams, as well. Had fries for a side, and they were good. The garlic bread was absolutely soaking with butter, but at least it was hot and lots of tasty garlic. The french bread was a little hard, but this was a Sunday, so Im sure fresh bread wasnt available.

Really excellent fish and seafood restaurant, one of my favorite places in Sausalito. The restaurant is totally informal, which is part of the charm. You queue up to place your order. They have both indoor seating and outdoor picnic tables with very nice views. The food was delicious - really good quality fish. It does come at a price, but you understand it once its on your plate! We had a couple of specials on the day - an exquisite rainbow trout main and a mussels starter, both excellent. The chowder is very nice too, as is the fish and chips. Good drinks options are available.
