We really enjoyed Flama Llama for both the atmosphere and food. The restaurant is very open and roomy, which is great when its busy for letting you feel like you still have room.The food and drinks were all great - very flavourful and cooked just right. The beef saltado was amazing, but I think my favourite item was the plantains.Parking can be a little difficult so be aware if its a busy time. Theres a restroom located outside that was pretty clean and well-kept as well.

Ive been wanting to come here for a while and Im so glad I finally did! Dont miss out on this gem, the food was incredibly flavourful, the portions were excellent 👌 and the service was courteous and quick! Its one of those things where the food tastes even better than you thought it would. Plus I love the atmosphere theme! 10/10 would definitely come back!!

Food was great, service from Khai was excellent. The Peruvian Chopped Salad is a must. The pulled pork tasted great but it had thick long strands which was difficult to chew. The Churro tasted great as well but might be a bit overcooked. Other than those things, everything is great. I would definitely come back.

Love this place! The passion fruit margaritas are amazing! Weve come a couple times and the food is consistently fantastic- fresh, delicious and never disappoints. This time we had the tallarin saltado and the sandwich de carne con chimichurri. They were so good! The service is always wonderful as well! Dylan was quick, courteous and so kind. Thanks for a wonderful experience!

Flama Llama @flamallamasd brings Chinese food with Peruvian twist to @convoydistrict A rather refreshing addition to the Convoy community.I was excited to see a unique restaurant like Flama Llama so I had to try it. My friends and I ordered almost all items from their rather small menu. We all agreed that the food and drinks were delicious. 👍🏼 We’ll come back for sure.

Food is amazing as always. The crispy chicken is moist and crunchy, but does not taste oily like some places. Keeps its flavor. The fries are a great shareable. Sandwiches are next level. Very good serving size portions. Also, everyone that works there is so nice and friendly.

Really great food and atmosphere. Ive had the chance to come here a couple of times and try a few of their items. All of the meat dishes were tender and juicy, and the drinks were refreshing. Not many people utilize the outdoor space, but I its actually really cozy and atmospheric. Recommend!

A beautiful lunch that was also very delicious. It is a bit pricey for lunch, but definitely worth a treat once in a while. The waiter was amazing and could’ve been the owner because he had that kind of charisma. We went with his recommendation, and it did not disappoint!

Delicious! First time here and I was greeted by the cute Llama and tropical decor. We came on a Sunday afternoon. Most tables inside were full at the time but counter was open for seating and we choose to sit outside. Patio area was pleasant to sit wasnt too hot that day. My dish I ordered was the Ropa Vieja. The marinated beef was so flavorful and rich. Very delicious! I cant wait to come again and try the other dishes

I love the place, Lisa go above and beyond to help us with any questions we got also very attentive. It’s been a while since I got lomo saltado since it’s very hard to find a Peruvian dish in SD and the one here its to die for. I definitely will come back. I highly recommend if you in the mood for some Latin food.

Had a delicious lunch at Flama Llama, the Latin America Asian fusion restaurant. We had the tuna crudo, calamari sandwich, and tallarin saltado. Everything tasted really great, especially the tuna crudo. There is an outdoor patio that is dog friendly. The restaurant has a really nice, casual, and cute ambiance and all the servers are friendly and quick. Recommend if you are looking for a unique menu offering.

Super good! The only reason for 4 stars is probably that we couldnt help comparing it to Vox Kitchen which is one of our favorite restaurants but nothing was dissapointing at all. We got the Lomo Saltado and the paella. Both were great! The sauce in the Lomo Saltado was super good but the fries and steak were not quite as good as Vox Kitchen. The rice was also slight overcooked. The paella was loaded with seafood and it was all well cooked. The shrimps were especially tasty. The aji verde sauce is still so good but probably slightly worse than Vox. It had a lot to live up to but was definitely a win and well be back for sure (because Vox is so far away 😂). Also the cocktails are super tasty!

Flama Llama met all expectations as a delightful Peruvian restaurant! From start to finish, our experience was fantastic. Our server, April, made the visit even more enjoyable with her exceptional attentiveness and helpfulness.The fried yucca and sweet plantains were a perfect start, offering a delightful combination of flavors and textures. The loma saltado and tallarin salatado were both incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection. Every dish was a true culinary delight! My only feedback would be the cut of steak could be better, it was a bit tough. The Aji Verde could be a bit hotter.The ambiance was charming, and the staff was warm and welcoming. My best friend and I came across this restaurant at random and it’s such a delicious brunch spot! Parking might be rough during peak hours (but that’s like most of Convoy lol).Our lovely server Phoebe took such amazing care of us. She answered all our questions and her description of the Chicha Latte won us over and now it’s one of my new favorite drinks on Convoy! It tastes sooo good - it’s like horchata and açaí had a baby and the color is super pretty! I would return again for the Chicha Latte, Maracuya Margarita, and the pork mojo fries. We are avid pickled red onion gals so we ordered extra (not pictured) on the side to add onto this.Between the two of us, we opted to tackle our meal family style and it was the perfect move for us as we were able to try more than one dish. Also, the ropa vieja is personally too heavy and salty for me to finish alone so I was able to get the best of both worlds. Especially since fried plantains are my favorite!! The Tallarin Verde is 80% pesto pasta and 20% fried chicken cutlet. I’m so glad we shared this bc the pasta didn’t have much flavor and I wouldn’t have been able to finish the dish myself. Platanos was a bit soggy, but you do get a bunch for the price.If you need a quick snack or pregame spot to a fun night of bar crawling in Convoy, definitely stop by!!

I don’t know why it’s such a specific look.DrinksMy lovely girlfriend got the margarita and I got the yuzu mojito. They were both good, and yet they differed a little too much from what typical margaritas and mojitos taste like. We also got the sangria and, as much as I hate to say it, it tasted a lot like cherry cough medicine. I do like sangria typically, I swear. I don’t like cough syrup though.FoodAlso from the happy hour menu, we got the tacos and the yucca fries. The fries were good! Not the kind of thing I’ll be craving ever, but I enjoyed them. The dipping sauces were nice. The tacos were way too greasy. You can see the grease in my photo. If you’re so bold as to squeeze or wring a taco, a river of grease will flow out. I understand that pork can be greasy, but this was disappointing.Recommend?There are better happy hour spots in the area. I won’t be returning.

OMG, LOVE this place. I love both Latino food and Asian food, so when I heard there was a fusion restaurant, I had to come. I had the sake mojito (yuzu), fried plantains, and Aji de Pollo (kind of like a Peruvian curry). SO so good, and I loved the vibes of the place.

Amazing! Great dishes you won’t be able to get many other places.I recommend trying the chicha morada drink, really refreshing and unique!! The dumplings and mojo pork fries are great appetizers. Ropa Vieja main was also really good!Cost is reasonable for the quality of the food, probably around $16-$30 per person depending on what you order. The portions are just right so you could just get a main dish and be set.

We came here for the happy hour menu - the drinks were okay; I got the maracuyá juice and there was a slight metallic taste to it. The service was not the best, as we were seated outside and were not attended to at all. We had to go inside and ask to order, for cutlery and napkins, etc.. The outdoor patio also wasnt super atmospheric, and the sill to the window was quite dusty and had some debris. The food was pretty good, though. We got the mojo pork fries, yucca fries, plátanos, and chili wonton. The fries and wonton were my favorite, and the yucca and plantains were okay but not the best Ive had. Overall it was a good place to try, but didnt stand out to me.

Latin American restaurant with some emphasis on Peruvian food. You will also find Cuban sandwiches on the menu. Food was ok, service was slow (even for drinks). The lomo saltado and chicken saltado were ok but not memorable. The pork plate was tasty. The cuban sandwich was ok. The dish I would go back for is the Tallarin saltado, that was delicious. Yuca fries tasted like they were frozen and fried, no flavor and hard. Fried platain was good. Drinks were light on the alcohol, had the sangria slush, yuzu mojito and maracuya margarita. Parking available, bathrooms outside the restaurant. Its not a must stop but food is ok.

Cute spot on Convoy! Highly recommend aji de pollo if you can handle a little spicy. It was a flavorful chicken curry dish. I also recommend mojo pork if you like pull pork. Tallarin Verde was pretty bland. The noodles were lacking flavor. Lomo saltado was so-so. Fried yucca was a nice side dish to share with friends. Thai tea flan was a nice creme bruleé version of flan with Thai team flavor. Very tasty.

Havent tried too many Peruvian dishes and since I love me some Asian cuisines and I practically live on Convoy, I had to try some Chinese Peruvian fusion cuisine, also known as chifa! The stuff we ordered was amazing and everything went well together. I ordered the Mojo Pork, and the Fried Yucca as a side. Also had a refreshing chicha latte. Vibe is also pretty chill with Latin American music playing in the background. Service was awesome as well, thanks to Phoebe!! Were definitely coming back for more dishes!!!

Delicious pan-Latin/Asian fusion food (mostly Peruvian and Cuban). I will disclose that they encourage customers to write reviews for a discount, but my rating is genuine because the food and service were great. I had the tallarines verdes and it hit the spot. My boyfriend really liked his mojo pork and yuzu mojito. Our server, Khai, took great care of us throughout our meal. I will definitely come back and try the Aji de pollo next time.

I’ve always wanted to come here after passing it so many times. So lucky me my friends wanted to check out a new place we haven’t eaten yet so I insisted on Flama Llama. I’m glad I did! Megan was our server and right away she greeted us at the door. It was happy hour so I ordered a lychee llama cocktail, the mojito fries, and wontons. The drink was delicious! The mojito fries were a good size portion and tasted really good with the cilantro sauce! The wontons were cooked perfectly and the chili sauce was spot on. I definitely want to try other things on the menu. My friends had the tallarin saltado noodles. It was a heft serving with good flavor and huge chunks of meat!

When looking for an authentic Peruvian haunt you will enjoy this place that even has the fusion chaufa dish. I would love to give 5 stars but the long delay to pay was unfortunate. Be aware food will come out when ready which was a substantial break between the first and third entrees for us. The Lomo Saltado was our favorite.

First visit was 3-stars. The lomo was good and authentic but the ají de pollo was trash; a big letdown. If you want me to teach you how to properly cook that dish hit me up and I’ll make a trade with you. I would offer to teach you about the lomo but that actually was cooked well.Apart from that I am optimistic about this place and will return to try out more of the menu!

A breath of fresh air on Convoy!Having grown up in San Diego, Ive seen restaurants come and go. But when I heard about the soft opening at Flama Llama, I couldnt wait to round up my friends and try as many of the dishes as we could. Inside, we found a green oasis that whisked us away from heart of Convoy and reflected the warmth and character of the dishes we ordered.For libations, my GF and I ordered the yuzu mojito and the sangria slush. The citrus and mint were well-balanced with the sake base of the mojito, and the robustness of the sangria was highlighted by the sweeter berry fruits and the texture of the slush.We started with the Aguadito de Pollo -- a hearty and savory soup that was the perfect pairing to the chilly evening. The spicy broth added heat with every sip but was tempered by the ample amounts of tender chicken in our dish.After we finished our soup, we moved on to the Lomo Saltado -- a hallmark of any Peruvian kitchen. The tender beef was succulent, well-salted, and complemented by the crispy yet fluffy potatoes. The sweet, slow-cooked tomatoes and tart red onions added nuace to the already satisfying dish, and the airy jasmine rice rounded everything out. We could barely finish our food -- for the elite among us complaining about portion sizes: Im sure we dont need as much as we think we do ;)We finished our meal with an order of the Thai Tea Flan, a dish as unique to Convoy as Flama Llama is. Creamy, sweet, and deeply satisfying -- something best experienced firsthand.All this to say, Im thrilled that someone has had the conviction and vision to bring delicious Peruvian-Chinese food to a food scene thats long been saturated with imitators and also-rans. Soo my husband and I decided to give this place a try but kinda disappointed.. wish I would have paid attention to the reviews about the food instead of just looking at the pics and driving over..I ordered food to go and decided to have a drink while I waited, drink was ok, girl making the drink was very sweet and chatty, service was speedy. Went on a Friday afternoon.When I got home to chow down, I was pleasantly surprised with the yuca fries and platanos that we ordered, they came out amazing, but our main dishes the aji de pollo and the ropa vieja were oversalted. I have absolutely no idea how the reviews are so disparate from my experience. I expect that the reviews are being paid for both here and on Yelp- BEWARE. There are many elite reviewers posting, and I just dont believe it.1) Overall, I was expecting a clean atmosphere and everything felt a little grungey.2) The food was unbearable. The calamari was dripping in oil and had a fishy taste. My partner had the Ropa Vieja and I had the Mojo pork. Both dishes had under-done rice and we were not informed that there would be no plantains until our dishes arrived with yucca substituted.Both meat dishes were barely warm and smothered in sauce that tasted like it came from a can. We sent them back to be warmed and Im sure that they were microwaved and scraped back on the plate ( which was not cleaned up after moving the meat off and back on again, very messy)The ropa vieja was missing any complexity of flavor - mainly trending sweet and sour.The mojo pork was missing any freshness that you normally get with cilantro, orange, and lime that goes into a traditional marinade.The saving grace was the chili dumplings, but for 11$/6 dumplings that were falling apart and likely from a bag, I expect more. The sauce was okay for the dumplings.3) The server was polite and tried to be accommodating, but definitely could benefit from training. The bartender was acting as the host for the evening but it took quite a bit of time to have someone come to the table. We nearly left then, and I wish we would have.

Wow, what a cool place! Really interesting and delicious food. Khai was our server. Got the chimichurri carne sandwich, an Inca Cola, and a Thai tea flan. Khai was telling us the owner is an ethnically Chinese man from Bolivia, and the restaurant is labeled as “Latin-Asian fusion.” You can definitely see influences from both sides in the menu, and it’s fantastic! Inca Cola is an old favorite. Tastes kind of like a unique cream soda. Chimichurri sandwich came with a slightly spicy red cream sauce as well as a cilantro-garlic cream sauce. Both were delicious and went well on either the sandwich or the fries. The sandwich itself was on a roll similar to the ones they use for Vietnamese Bahn Mi and was toasted panini style. The Thai tea flan had some crème brûlée style caramelized sugar on top, and the flan itself had flavors of both Thai tea and the usual caramel you’d expect from regular flan. The flavors go really well together, which you’d probably expect if you’ve ever had Thai milk tea which is also sweetened. Nice light texture to the flan as well. We just walked out on a Tuesday evening. We had an 8:30 reservation. When we arrived there were only two other tables sat…no one brought us water, offered to take our order, nothing. We were greeted by one of the 7 teenagers standing around when we walked in. He wiped the table down as he sat us at the furthest and said “I’ll be right back with some waters,” as he sat us in the furthest outside table and left, never to return. We waited until 8:45 and walked out. No one looked up to see if we needed anything, they seemed to be avoiding eye contact. It was all very weird and I’m not coming back.

1st time here, Jax was our server and was very helpful. We had the Peruvian chopped salad, it was delicious and had a little kick in the dressing. We also had Lomo Saltado, the beef was tender and flavorful with a wonderful sauce. The yucca was cooked perfectly. Chili wontons we’re flavorful with the perfect amount of spice. We had the Yuzu mojito and it was yummy! We will definitely be back!

My girl and I were driving around the Convoy area looking for something different. We spotted this place and decided to try. My girl ordered the Ropa Vieja and a passion fruit margarita. I ordered the pork dish. Both came with platanos. The food came quickly and was hot. We always jump at a chance to eat Latin food ( Cuban, Brazilian, Puerto Rican) We are happy we tried this spot.. definitely be back.

Really unique experience in San Diego - Peruvian Chinese is big in South America so it’s cool to see that here.The service was great - Daniel was really attentive and friendly. I got the Ropa Vieja and it was awesome!
