Both my wife and I had the best time here last weekend, food was phenomenal, service was impeccable, and ambience is adorable. Well thought out restaurant that I wish we lived closer. Thank you for a great time and cant beat the beautiful weather while we were there. We will certainly be back when we go to Mendocino. If you are in town, dont even think twice about it, just GO!!
I have eaten at many vegan places throughout the United States but few compare to Fog Eater. This is my favorite place to eat by far and has my all time favorite dish on their menu (the fried blue oyster mushroom).The service and atmosphere are top notch, I definitely suggest eating outside if its warm enough. They have a gorgeous outdoor eating area and space heaters spread throughout to battle the constant chill of Mendocino.I have always been blown away by every single thing I have ordered, from the apatizers to the desserts. So much love and care has been put into each and every item on the menu. Their pairings of flavors is top notch.The price may seem high but you get plenty of food for the ammount you spend and it is absolutely worth every cent.
Wow, what a cool place! food is delicious, tasted fresh and well seasoned also on top of that beautifully decorated! crabby patties, blue oyster dish and corn pudding were my fav! atmosphere is nice & relaxing. all vegan 🌱worth to mention: gratuity is included in the bill!we had family dinner of 3 with few appetizers, 3 meals, 4 desserts, soft drinks and 1 glass of wine, bill with tips included reached almost $400 so place is definitely not on a cheaper side but worth a treat big time!
Absolutely delightful New Years meal here, augmented by a bubbles flight! We had the crabbie appetizer, then risotto & southern plate followed by beet cake. Yum....it was awesome!!!
By far the best place I’ve ever gone to for brunch. We found this place just by luck and didn’t think much of it— it was our first time visiting Mendocino. The service was fantastic, super friendly staff, and the atmosphere felt so welcoming. The food is amazing! A bit on the pricy but it is so so worth. Definitely coming back!
Food options are limited but good in taste. Portion size is on the smaller side. Staff is welcoming and quick. Parking is on street but plenty. Any of the dish can be made vegan. Sitting is indoor and outdoor.One star is for the malpractices we observed through our. The beignets were offered in a way that they looked complementary, something shall ‘shall I get you beignets before the food?’. We saw that happening to other customers also. And the gratuity is added as 20% by default to any order.Not a great experience and not going back.
A nice gem in Mendocino. Is it me or are there lots of Italian restaurants in Mendocino? I like Italain food but would probably like a little bit of variety?Well, it was a 45 minute wait. First off, Im not vegetarian but willing to try vegetarian.The food at Fog Eater was different but goof.Southern plate- loved th Mac and cheese, greens and the bbq lima bean. It came with a hot mini cornbread. I wished they would give you honey as well.Gumbo- deliciousBeignets- this is a must!!! It came with a chocolate and Caramel sauce and dare I say its as good as the beignets or better than Cafe Du Monde in New Orleans? Warm, fluffy and soft.Service was great and the waitress did a great job of explaining everything to me. So if you are vegetarian or just want to try something g different in Mendocino, this is thr place to go!
Wow, what a find this gem was. Absolutely incredible food and dining experience. Every dish was inventive, creative and delicious. We ate slowly to savor all the flavors. They take care to source and only serve fresh, local ingredients. The integrity and beauty in the food was evident.The backyard garden was really sweet and quaint. The whole energy is kind, considered and creative. The ladies that served us were delightful. I will definitely recommend this restaurant to any driving along 101. A must visit.
My meal at Fog Eater was easily the best brunch Ive had to this day. I had Brunch Stuff and could not believe how much flavor was in every bite. Its been several weeks and I still crave it daily. Thank you so much! What a gem of a restaraunt.
Pretty good an interesting spread. Didn’t know it was a vegetarian place but the service was great and we had some snacks to hold us over til dinner. Interesting eats to try. The pickle appetizer was really good.

This restaurant has deliciously singular vegan dishes with a southern twist. If you’re Mendocino stop by y’all!
Its okay. The service was exceptional with very friendly staff who clearly knew the menu and seem to enjoy working there. The food is about twice as expensive as it should be for how much you get. Its southern inspired, which I guess to them means fry everything as the food was overly oily. It was vegan, but not healthy. My wife really enjoyed it though, so clearly it is for some people, just not for me. Ive never spent this much on a meal and still left hungry and with indigestion.
Not dog friendly, they do not allow well behaved dogs on a leash on their back patio.We ate outside on their back patio about 2 years ago with our 10 lb Maltipoo and had a very positive experience.We tried to eat there again last night with our girl and was told that we could only sit at this one sad table in front of the restaurant on the street with no heaters.
Everything we ate here was delicious, beautiful, and well-prepared. Even as a bit of a carnivore, I want to go and try to make their collard rolls and fennel pickles because they were such good comfort food. The owners are unpretentious and welcoming, but clearly put their hearts and souls into this place.

Such a fun “hidden” gem! We had to get our bfast to go since the dog friendly table was taken but I cannot WAIT to go back and have breakfast in that energy & ambience ! Super fun atmosphere, upbeat music, waitresses etc. yummy coffee!! They do have oat milk but not almond milk so heads up. Really awesome spot, cant wait to get back
Wow! This place is amazing. A must go if you’re visiting Mendocino area. The staff was super friendly, helpful, and cool. Good vibes! Food is incredible. Healthy, wholesome, and flavorful.
Delicious.We ended up having the pickle plate, gumbo, around southern plate, followed by the beignets to finish. It was a very tasty dinner in a cozy, but very safe, heated outdoor dining section. Id been nervous to dine out for my birthday (hadnt done so in many months), but were glad to have come.
Great vegetarian dine-in restaurant with a quaint, welcoming atmosphere. We particularly enjoyed the fried blue oyster mushrooms and cheesy pumpkin grits. I recommend the beignets for dessert with the seasonal jam and chocolate and coffee dippers. One miss was the Coyote Steals Another Mans Wife cocktail. It has a sherry base with the broth of corn bones which tasted like warm leftover water after boiling corn. I suggest sticking with the wine, beer or cider to complement the food.
Fun place, nearly 100% vegan menu (breakfast serves eggs I think), and very friendly staff. We very much enjoyed their take on southern eating, and the banana pudding... I mean come on... how many places offer vegan banana pudding!?!? Id totally come back.
This was the perfect place for dinner when visiting Mendocino. Everything tasted perfect and super unique and felt like you were eating at a welcoming home. Waiters were super kind, funny and attentive. Get the beignets you won’t regret it!
Great food, great atmosphere. Strawberry rhubarb pie is to die for. Fancy beans and rice was as delicious as it was beautiful (seriously, look at that plate). Fantastic spot!

Lovely vegan cafe, delicious food and excellent wine and sake list. We go whenever we go to Mendocino. Lovely garden area if you want to sit outside. We witnessed the drama of Jingwen Song who gave a one star review yesterday, abusing the staff, we were sitting at the table by the door. The entitlement was pretty shocking. So I give 5 stars to Fog Eater and zero stars to Jingwen Song. 😎
Fabulous food and atmosphere. The servers are friendly and take all the Covid precautions. Its a long, beautiful drive from the Bay Area and worth the trip.We ordered apple fritters, beignets (not shown), tofu scramble, roasted potatoes, and cauliflower waffles.
Maybe it’s for someone, but its too oily for me, and the pickled vegetables are way too salty, clearly over priced.20% gratuity for two people with just this food quality? I wish I had given other restaurants higher gratuity.

Stopped in for dinner with some friends and was very pleased with this place! Everyone was friendly and seemed happy to be there! We all enjoyed our food, deciding to share several things. The buffalo cauliflower biscuit sliders were amazing, but it was all good! Their wine list is small, but our server helped us choose and it was great! She sniffed the cork when she opened it, which may seem insignificant, but if you’re in the industry, we know it’s not. I appreciate those things when I’m dining out, especially when it’s not fine dining, but a cute little coastal cafe. The beignets are not to be missed! I’ll be back!

Im not vegan, but WOW this place has some amazing food. The staff are all super friendly and accommodating.The ambiance is so cute and welcoming. My only slight qualm is that the back patio is a bit cramped and on not level ground, so the table kept rattling and we dropped and shattered the hot hot sauce because it slid off the table.
If there is an option, I will give 0 star. They charge 20% for to-go order and no utensils for to go. They asked us to buy those in the grocery store. Really bad experience and I will suggest don’t go.

In total, this spot really wins and in the ambiance category. Its quirky and inviting, leaving you feel like youve discovered a hidden gem. Has a supper club vibe to it. Food was really good (coming from two carnivores), and beautifully plated.All that to say, I think there are a few things they could improve on. One thing that was a bit distasteful was the fact that they wrap in 20% gratuity to all orders. Our service was excellent, and we definitely would have tipped that amount anyway, but we would have liked to have decided that ourselves. To us, its a little tacky, and showing insecurity on their behalf. It also would have been nice to have a few coffee choices besides a very fruity light roast.

My wife and I loved this place. We’re not vegans but we’re both lactose intolerant so we were both excited to not have to ask for no dairy. Staff were great and you can tell they care. There was a vibe. If you work in the service industry you know what I mean. Everyone who worked here said how much they loved my wife’s floral dress and there energy made us feel like we regulars.The food was honestly better then I anticipated. I’m a chef and my wife and I are partners in our restaurant. I’m not saying that like it matters I just want to make it clear that I have only felt the need to write a few reviews about another business because I’m just not that guy. Im hard to impress and eating out is difficult for me because after you cook long enough you start to know what things taste like before you even eat it. When you take away the element of surprise with food the magic and mystery is gone.That being said the gravy on the mash potatoes caught me by surprise. The food was light for being southern. You can tell it has a woman’s touch & The moon pie was literally not from this world 🚀🚀🚀 if your in Mendocino for an evening come here.Hats off to the chef 🤌🏼
Nice and cozy restaurant that specialises in vegan/vegetarian cuisine with Southern flavours. Had a sunday brunch here and while Im not an authority on Southern cuisine, the grits and grillades were just excellent. Fried cauliflower and waffles were very good too, and overall everyone around us seemed happy with their food and the experience. Definitely recommended, although we reckon it can be difficult to find seating on sundays (we got lucky apparently).
Simply fantastic. We came for happy hour and stayed for dinner, and it was so good we came back the next day for brunch. For happy hour we had the hush puppies, pickle plate, and pimento cheese spread. Everything delicious and well-prepared. They gave us some complimentary boiled peanuts too! They were quite good but as a born and raised southerner I would recommend they cook the peanuts for a little longer, and go saltier with the brine its cooked in.For dinner we got the collard rolls as appetizer (amazing), and shared the southern plate with some mashed potatoes and gravy on the side. Again everything was delicious. The creole mac and cheese was maybe the best vegan mac I have had anywhere. We had the banana pudding for dessert which was also maybe the best banana pudding Ive ever had, vegan or otherwise.When we came back for brunch the next day we went with the grits & grillades and a biscuit with black eyed pea sausage and pimento cheese. Once again both were delicious and well-prepared.Lastly we got great service both times, and their little cafe area is super cute. The only complaint I have is they could have served some of the things on bigger dishes, as it was a little difficult to eat some of the things (such as the biscuit and sausage) without making a mess! But overall fantastic and we will certainly be back next time we are in the area.
I loved the vibe and the hospitality of this place. They have a very interesting drinks menu. My husband is a vegetarian and he was thrilled about that the fact that this place is vegan ! All the servers knew the menu well and they try to make sure that you have a good time. Highly recommend this place!

All the other servers were just as nice; you can tell that the staff is quite friendly and familial.Atmosphere: The design and feel of the place is great. First we were led through their outdoor space with outdoor heaters and nice seating. Then, when we sat down, we saw the beautiful had-crafted menus. The place felt so vibrant, just like the wallpaper of the bathroom.I am new to this area, but this restaurant just felt so vibrant, and my experience here was so enjoyable. Cannot recommend Fog Eater highly enough. I love this place and will make a point to come here whenever I am in the area. The food is delicious and beautiful. You can bring meat eaters and not even tell them it’s vegetarian and they won’t notice. I’m an omnivore and everything I’ve eaten has been worth writing home about. The service is 5 stars and it’s beautiful how the team works together. The beverages are clearly curated by someone with an incredible wealth of knowledge and taste. Whether you want wine, cocktails, beer, or cider they’ve got you and it will be amazing. I can’t wait to come back!
I know this place would have been awesome. My friend was scoping it out. Unfortunately we were only in town between their brunch and dinner hours so it was closed. But these reviews look fabulous. If Im ever back in Mendocino Im going here.

We stumbled on this place after another restaurant didn’t have any tables and we are so glad we did! The food was absolutely amazing, the vibe was adorable, and we could tell the owners really care about making great food and a great experience. The Mac n cheese was the best we’ve had and the beignets with seasonal jam (we had lemon curd) were phenomenal.

Um not thrilled at all with the food, disappointing and lacking flavor. One server was gracious and the other very cold. Ridiculously expensive. This restaurant was fantastic! The food is vegan/vegetarian. While the menu was limited, they had both sweet and savory options which would suit most tastes. There was a wider variety of drinks. I had the best mimosa. My friend, who recommended this place, mentioned that there was a mixologist. I had the cornbread French toast. The apple syrup was amazing. The dish wasnt overly sweet unlike similar breakfast items at national franchises that are sickeningly sweet. The portions were great. My companions couldnt finish their food. I was the only one who finished my food.The atmosphere was lovely. The indoor seating seemed fairly cozy but their outdoor seating was absolutely beautiful. It was like a little hidden garden.The only thing that might put someone off was the wait time. It was like 30ish mins but it was worth it. The town itself is quite charming. The staff was very sweet. The food was delicious.

Everything about this place is 5 stars - the food, the decor, the service and the staff! We got there for happy hour and enjoyed some lovely bites and wine for a very good price. Then we ordered the oyster mushroom main, and the fancy beans and rice main. The oyster was the show stopper for us, would definitely recommend! Can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu next time!

My husband and I ate at the number 1 rated Trillium restaurant last night. We both agreed that we liked our meal here better! Neither one of us are vegan or vegetarian.My husband had the kumquat ipa, amazing. I had a grapefruit and elderflower mimosa, amazing. We had the Beignets to start that come with both a lemon and chocolate dipping sauce. So delicious! And vegan.. what?! I had the grits and grillades with a poached egg and my husband had brunch stuff with a poached egg. Delicious! You can’t get better food in Mendocino, even if you aren’t vegetarian or vegan. Seriously, give it a try. You’ll leave stuffed and happy. We did.

Wow this meal was sooo good. Got the black bean sausage and pimento biscuit and the fried cauliflower red pepper jelly biscuit. The black bean sausage was better than other meat breakfast sausages and the breading on the cauliflower was perfectly light and salted. I want to try everything on their menu! Plus everything about the space was really cute.

Very cold hard metal seats outside but was happy to finally get to sit indoors. The seats were not much better unfortunately and they left the door opened wide letting the cold wind in.I noticed the prices were high but I was sure it would be worth the price. Unfortunately I was wrong. Not only was the food just ok, nothing special at all, the portions were very small as well. Certainly not justifying the very high prices.To top it off, when we received the bill, 20% gratuity was automatically added onto to it. It was crazy to see a $175.00 bill for basically beans, rice, a couple soups, fried mushrooms with hardly any mushrooms, pickled veggies, lettuce and 3 very small glasses of wine.
Its colorful, playful, and boiled peanuts, full of cheerfulness, but no fries, just cauliflower and forest tree mushrooms. A real food theatre, very well done. Very unusual, and served so nicely....but not a meat and potatoes type place. Took a while to adapt, but very enjoyable, once I got into it. The thorns and spikes barbed wire tea was out of this world!
This place is just amazing. I’m originally from Argentina, and as such a big beef eater and sometimes a bit skeptical of vegetarian food. However, this is not “vegetarian” food, this is outstanding food. Well prepared, super tasty, fantastic ingredients, and a lot of soul. This is my new must-go-to restaurant each time I come to Mendocino. Well done! A++.

Gave our seats to another group that arrived later than us without any communication while we just stood there waiting. That group has more people and I understood the rearrangement. But the ignorance wasn’t great. Food was ok. 20% tips automatically charged for little service provided.

I love this place! Everything is completely delicious and adorable and considered, and everyone is so kind. Everything is such a treat, you can kind of just order anything and count on it being a new and enjoyable experience. It’s unlike anything other restaurant I’ve been to. Be sure to get beignets for dessert!
If i could give this place 10 stars, i would. amazing vegan (mostly gluten free) meals that are a fun twist on classic soul & comfort food. try the fried oyster mushrooms, the soup of the day (we had poblano), the bbq lima beans, the pie of the day, and the banana pudding. all the compliments to the chef!
Amazing food and service for a birthday meal! We loved the oyster mushroom dish, sliders with their homemade hot sauce, chickpea and dumplings (tastes like chicken and dumplings ❤️). Beignets were a great way to end, and took home entree leftovers. They also have a diverse selection of drinks which was appreciated. Fog Eater tastes better and healthier than Bay Area food places like souley vegan and hella vegan eats.

Food was excellent, server was super nice, and this is the kind of place that made me want to come back tomorrow to order everything else. Every ingredient, many of them simple vegetables, were important and expressed very well.
Excellent excellent excellent! everything I have tried here has been perfectly balanced: seasoned, sautéed, crunchy and grilled to perfection in all of the best ways. I’ve been a vegetarian for 10 years and these are some of the best vegetables I’ve ever had!

This is a great new addition to Mendo. Go out of your way to eat at least one meal here and try one of their inventive house drinks. Really well done vegan and veg dishes that even meat eaters will enjoy. I hope this is what the future of Mendo looks like: quirky, friendly and youthful while making delicious and sustainable food.

Restaurant is only open to fully vaccinated people?!? Thats discrimination. The vaccine does NOT prevent you for catching or spreading Covid and there are plenty of people on this planet who can NOT be vaccinated. I will not be giving this restaurant any more business. I wish I could give negative stars.

Their service is fast.20% gratuity is included by defaultThis place is definitely a must when youre in Mendocino.Vibe is lively with soft music playing in the background. Their salt shakers are unique and different on each table.Day 1Fresh ingredients and flavorful southern plate. Hush puppies were crunchy and delightful. Their orange wine by the glass turned out good too. Chocolate mud pie was decadently tasty.Day 2For starters, we chose porcini mushrooms flatbread. The bread was crunchy and mushrooms tasted great!We ordered fancy beans and rice and it lived up to its name. It had black grams which had a bit of a smoky taste. It is definitely one of our favorites for dinner. Its not too heavy and is perfect if you want to eat something lighter. We also ordered cheesy pumpkin grits with mushrooms. Pumpkin was well seasoned and melted in mouth. For desserts, we ordered apple caramel pie. We usually dont really enjoy pies but this was baked so well we liked it.Day 3Last day of our trip, we had breakfast at the inn. We didnt want to miss the special Sunday brunch at the cafe so we still went after checking out. We shared the fired cauli + waffles. The cauliflower was battered and fried and was delicious. The savory waffle had spring onions inside and was served spicy miso. On the side, we ordered black bean sausage. It was chewy and delicious (more than actual sausage :P).

2023-07-30 04:15:04We had a wonderful dinner at Fog Eater Cafe. The service from getting a table till end of the meal was nothing less than exceptional. We ordered the Biscuit sliders and the Southern plate. Since I have an intolerance to BBQ, our server was kind enough to replace with the mashed potatoes. Everything in our plate was burst of variety of flavors going really well with each other. My favorite was the Cajun Mac n Cheese part of the southern plate which was splendid & well done. I would recommend sitting outside for a date night experience. Kudos to the team for putting out a beautiful menu & the chef who prepared it. We will come here again the next time we visit Mendocino!

2023-10-18 15:00:46The patio is gorgeous! Their pie is homemade and well made. You have to ask for it though, I didnt see it on the menu for brunch. Someone needs to buy them new coffee carafes though 😂 those things dump so much coffee on the table it was comical.

2023-07-02 21:19:45Probably the best vegan restaurant Ive been. We tried Crabbies which wasnt in the menu, and it was delicious. The staff was friendly and the service was great. Id definitely come back and recommend this place to others.

2023-02-20 03:51:41Came to this place because it was one of the few brunch places open before 10-11 am. I must admit, I was not all convinced. The place inside is small, but they have several tables on the back of the establishment. Inside the decor is nice, and even the bathroom has a nice feeling. The menu was not extensive and to be honest, I was not sold when I finished reading it. We had 2 mimosas, which were OK. Once the food arrived though, all my biases and preconceived ideas came crashing down. The grits were just AMAZING!!! super tasty, flavorful and plentiful. My had had a special all vegetarian. I must admit again that it did not look good, but once I had a bite, I was sold on the plate. The service was super friendly. Highly recommend to visit this place.

Everything we had was delicious, the service was great, and atmosphere was extremely pleasant with bright colours and modern French cafe music. Not sure why people complain about portions being small, must be true ‘Muricans used to the large XL portion sizes. We found the portion sizing to be perfect. It was one of the biggest personal pot pies I had ever had. As far as vegetarian places go, it was very gratifying.Food 9.5/10Atmosphere 9/10Service 10/10Value would eat again 9/10

2022-09-15 02:11:32Wow!The food here doesn’t just look great, it also tastes amazing.I ordered one of the entrees of the day, basil cashew ricotta quiche topped with Chantelle mushrooms and a side of heirloom tomatoes and lettuce.I also had the eggplant bisque and the hush puppies. For dessert I had the beignets with the jam and chocolate coffee dips.I’m leaving this review as I wait for the beignets to cool but I already know they’ll be delicious because everything else was.Also, the weather was perfect to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful and cozy backyard setup, but they also have indoor seating.This place is a must try… I wish I was staying in Mendocino longer so that I could try everything else!Thank you!

Fog Eater Cafe does not have many options for eating.We ordered the Gumbo, Pot Pie and the Kids Cajun Mac n Cheese. We also ordered the Banana Pudding and an interesting South Korean Makku beer.The serving size of these dishes was too small. The kids Mac n Cheese was served in a saucer thats similar to the tea & saucer set. The beer was great and so was the pudding. But otherwise, the food was just about okay.

Can anyone in Mendo possibly create interesting California (mostly Vegan) Cuisine with a Southern inspired dishes.All I can say is try it, love it, and live it.-more to come
