Great stop just north of the City. Lots of waterfront, cool old buildings, and a unique view under the Golden Gate Bridge. A great place for a walk, or a nice stop on your way to Marin Headlands. Worth a quick trip, but not somewhere Id go on the regular.

Beautiful area just north of the Golden Gate bridge. On a clear day you have beautiful views of the bridge and of San Francisco. Lots of nice walking trails. Also, there are lots of other areas to drive around just minutes away to get other perspectives of the bay and the bridge.
Beautiful views much less packed then other SF bridge overlook. There’s a cool dive bar at the marina there. It’s a nice place to spend a couple hours.

My first time visiting the San Francisco area and all I can tell you is that it was like a dream come true. Summer time there is always fog in the morning and evening covering the golden gate bridge but there are times when you get amazing lighting. Super windy on top of the hill but incredible views. Definitely a bucket list place!
So beautiful here! Came with friends for the day on the 4th of July. The weather was clear and amazing. You can hike or just enjoy the small quaint town. Amazing views of SF Golden Gate Bridge as well as Angel Island. Makes you feel so close, like you can fly right over the bridge or adventure during a rainy day with someone you love.
Great place to escape to. Some very unique views of San Francisco and the Golden Gate from here. There is a great hands on childrens museum nearby.

Amazing place. It was a relaxing mode experience. Coast Guards all over. Very good place to go. Portable restrooms are available. But bring your own sanitizer and alcohol forThe smell.

Beautiful area to explore and see the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline (on a clear day) from a different point of view. Our boys love exploring this area. The Bay Area Discovery Museum (BADM) is also here. Another incredible place to explore with your little ones.
Be patient with your GPS, otherwise you can find yourself on the wrong road, but its worth the drive down, 🚗 ✨️

I have never stayed at Cavallo Point Spa at Fort Baker, so all I can tell you about is the outdoor location. The buildings are interesting from the outside, you can visit old bunkers that are fun to climb on and the views of the Golden Gate Bridge are terrific.
Nice place to visit if you are in SF. You can have amazing view of the famous Golden Gate Bridge from here. The place is liked by many cyclists and you will find many cyclists groups in this area especially during the weekends.
Cavello Point is one of my favorites in the bay area. Beautiful spot and cool historic buildings. Great restaurant.

Gorgeous views even on cloudy days; you can see Alcatraz, Angel Islad, downtown, Bay Bridge, etc. They are some trails to walk around and there is a Discovery Museum too for kids.
This is such a peaceful oasis with stunning views of the Golden Gate Bridge and Sam Francisco. Theres lots of history here from the time it was a military institution. Theres a lodge, restaurant, childrens museum and good strolling.

We found this hidden and low profile place at the opposite of Golden Gate Bridge, also nice view but less tourist visit here.Quite and cozy, the bar has awesome view and good atmosphere, I can spend all day long here.
You need to check it out when you visit San Francisco. Super historic and protected with amazing views of the Golden State Bridge. Very windy so bring a jacket or sweater. Bring a camera to take lots of pics. Enjoy the scenery!

Our group relaxed in the Presidio Yacht Club marveling at one of the most beautiful sunsets over the Golden Gate.
Its a hidden gem. We came for a walk and stumbled upon Cavallo Inn, they have a restaurant called Farley with pricey food but delicious, and the service was great!
Its a quiet perfect spot to make day images of the bridge that only those tourists with a car know and can get to.Be careful at night. Ive also had a spooky guys in cars experience when shooting a star trail two years ago.Sherrif or police patrol the area often during the night but that doesnt make it 100% safe.
I love this place I launch my waterbikes from here often and my clients, family and friends live it here. Start with a nice bike or waterbike ride, then walk around Carvallo Point Lodge and have breakfast, lunch or bunch (my fav) at Murray circle. Awesome place with Discovery Bay Museum.
Visited the Travis Marina for a private event. The staff/bar out on the deck was great. Cant wait to come back when the upstairs bar is open.
This is a place where you take your little ones. Enjoy the history. Discovery museum is a nice place to read, release your childs creativity. Do not leave your children alone. Because the ocean is very close. I am aware that their is a restaurant in Fort Baker.

Wonderful view. Many options for short walks are available. I recommend planning some time to enjoy the area. Make sure you check out the weather. Passing the bridge from north to south involves a toll that is not payed with cash. Make sure you go online and pay it if you are driving a rental car. Enjoy.

This place really beautiful and tucked in a really picturesque part of the bay and golden gate bridge. I take all my out of town friends here instead of the busy areas above for them to see the bridge.

One of the best places for bridge selfies. Nice little walk to the point and passed a really pretty wedding held at the pub. Might have limited bathrooms though bc passed a dude in suit peeing in the bushes 🤣 I was chuckling to myself.

Presidio Yacht Club... Good music one of the best nights here is Marias Thursday nights! Usually has live music. The crowd is hit or miss. Some nights ((Thursday)) are packed other nights quiet. Drink and food prices reasonable. A great place off the beaten path

Fort Baker was originally a 19th Century Coastal Artillery Defense Post. During WWI it became the Head Quarters (HQ) and training camp for what would become the 91st Infantry Division. The division fought in the trenches of WWI and had the honor of several soldiers being awarded The Medal of Honor For service above and beyond the call of duty.” most awards are made post-posthumusly meaning the soldier died while doing his duty. The division became known as the Wild West Division because its soldiers were raised from the Wild West states. Because of this, and the US Armys history in Injun Fighting along the Powder River in the Dakota Territories it became customary for a soldier, when saluting a superior to say, Powder River! and the officer returning the salute said, Let her buck! meaning that 91st Div soldiers are ready for war.After WWI the division was deactivated but was later reactivated with the start of WWII where the division fought in the Italian Campaign bringing along with them the traditional salute words which were carried into the 21st Century.I was assigned to the 91st Div HQ and HQ Company (US Army Reserves) after demobilization from Gulf War I when I moved to the San Francisco area. So I joined hundreds of other soldiers, past and present, who ran and trained on the forts grounds and I know I would sweat out 1 gallon per day of field training.With the collapse of the USSR in the early 1990s the units mission was changed from that of an infantry division to becoming a combat training unit which put on field and computer based field exercises for army reserve combat units. If there was one thing our Commanding General (CG) held us to it was that we had better stay in shape so that we would be able to keep up with the soldiers we trained at nearby Camp Parks.Later the 91st Training Division was moved to Camp Parks so that the fort could become part of a national park. Although I wonder how many hikers and joggers realize just how many thousands of gallons of sweat were poured out on these training ground for God and Country.There were also times of great beauty, such as when we would be standing in parade formation facing the mountain to the west when a low cloud from the Pacific would begin to appear over the crest of the ridge and it was so thick and heavy that it looked like an apparition was actually beginning to fall over the top of the mountain and down into the valley towards us. The cloud was so thick it looked like something from a horror movie that would slowly fall and move towards hundreds of soldiers standing at attention or parade rest -- that would swallow all of us. And we were paid to watch these beautiful manifestations of nature!There were so many time when I loved being a soldier -- but there were other times in the horror of war that scared the Hell out of me! So we learned how to function and fight as a team in the midst of nearly total chaos.

We attended the Goblins Jamboree at the discovery museum, our 6 yr old was delighted with all of the activities that were available to her.We also enjoyed the view of the golden gate bridge and the skyline of SF, there were playful seals fishing in the water who seemed intrigued by the children.This is a really nice low budget spot for hiking and taking in views, you can drive through a one lane tunnel to get to a really nice free beach on the ocean side of the bridge that is popular for surfing and fishing.I would think this would be a great place for world travelers to experience some nature just outside of the city.

This is a nice spot to stop by, walk around with the family... bring some snacks, a sandwich, etc.. find where to seat and simply enjoy the view out to the SF Bay. You can walk inside as well outside the Fort. Perfect for jogging, conversating while walking.. Chill & peaceful area.

No info or visitor center to get national park stamp. They say go to the one at Marin Headlands, which is, yup, closed forever.

We visited Fort Baker on Thanksgiving. It has some of the best views of golden gate and sf skyline. We clicked a lot of pictures with the Golden Gate in the background. Also, it was not very crowded, which was possibly because of the public holiday.

I thought this was an interesting historical sight. What makes it very intriguing is the reason why for the location. From a tactical standpoint, the Army could protect the inlet from invasion from an invading Navy.

One of the finest viewpoint for golden bridge which is often missed by visitors. You get very nice view and the place is safer as US coastguard office is nearby. You get awesome photographs. There is good number of parking places. More importantly, if you have hight phobia or small babies with you, then this is the place to watch GB as the upper GB view point is very windy and have a lot of somewhat difficult ridges that would give you a hard time.
I spent hours watching the fog roll over the bridge. The whole experience was surreal and more than a little breathtaking.

This is a gem for those not familiar with it (ie. locals). You can visit or stay overnight here. The Discovery Museum is close by and is a great place to take kids under 7 years old. Older kids get a little bored with the informative displays which are hands on.

An old military base turned into a lodge is a gorgeous little corner of the bay with an amazing view of San Francisco and the Golden Gate bridge. The green glade in front provides a vast open space that is surrounded by tall eucalyptus trees is just beautiful.
It’s an awesome and relatively quite place to enjoy the golden gate view. Wondeful place for a nice walk. And good fishing spot.

Great area, we went for the 2021 fleet week parade of ships. I got seals, ducks & a buncha birds. You can see Alcatraz very well, the Bay bridge & the Golden Gate bridge very good from there. Lots of GREAT pic opportunities there, kids museum.

Discovered Fort Baker totally t accident while leaving Sausalito. Beautiful spot and if you have $$$ you can stay at the hotel that specializes in fine cuisine. Nice place to hike, take photos and just enjoy the grounds. Ill come back here again.
Great views here of the bay & bridge, along with the city and nearby islands. Its a well kept Fort, clean & with plenty of trash receptacles along the way. A good amount of areas to park in and different places to check out. You can also crab off one of the little piers.

Went fishing at the pier. Beautiful anywhere you look because you are literally at the base of the Golden gate bridge, Sausalito side. Breathtaking views so bring your camera. Come prepared to fish. Also crabbing with cages are done here as well. Lovely spot with plenty of history to explore.

Was crazy foggy. Could barely see the bridge. The sounds/song of the various fog horns was interesting.
Fort Baker is a great place to go! The views of the Golden Gate are stunning! There is a small beach for kids and dogs to play on, and its a good swimming/wading spot when its warm out. The hike up to the old bunkers is neat, with views overlooking SF, the bay, and the bridge. The pier is a great place to catch fish and take in the sights. The paved trail that goes up under the bridge to the vista point offers really cool underside views of the bridges structure and architecture. Its a neat walk!

The reverse angle view of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco are fantastic! Be careful of the sheer cliffs above the water when exploring past the ruins of the gun battery. For a quick respite, you can dip into the reception area for Cavallo Point hotel

The views are breathtaking. This is a wonderful area to take photos of Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco, and Alcatraz.Fairly easy to get to and was not very busy with parking easy to find. When leaving the traffic can be heavy on nearby highways

Beautiful views in a setting Coast Guard enlistees are lucky to call home. We didnt visit the museum, but it looked like a great place to take children. Just watch out for the numerous plot holes in the parking lot - some of them are enormous!

This is an excellent place to view the Golden Gate Bridge. The parking is free and way less crowded than the lot right off the highway, and the views are better. Restaurants, beach walking, boating, lots to do here.
Great view of the Golden Gate and pretty quiet too. Some guys were fishing from a pier. I didnt visit the fort since it was after hours, but it is a very nice looking area.
This is a favorite place of mine to visit for a free thrill... I actually lived here as an Army kid, so its fun to see it is still as beautiful as it was in the 1970s. Take a walk along the shoreline or on the tiny beach. (Fun fact: Horseshoe Cove is an ideal place for garbage from the Delta and the ocean to accumulate. Feel free to pick up some trash if you go down to the sand. There are large garbage bins at the end of the BADM parking lot if you pick up a bunch!)

Brilliant views, but parking a nightmare and when we went (a Saturday afternoon), the ingress road from 101 was completely jammed with traffic. Also, take a fleece as when the sun goes behind the hill - its colder than Mark Twain remembers San Francisco

This is a good place to take photos with the bridge being a nice backdrop. It was pretty during sunset. I would like to go again. I would like to try to take some night shots next time. It is a nice place to come to in SF.

2023-07-07 23:26:08In my opinion, the bes place to go and take pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge. We were there around 5-6PM and it was great timing as there was not much people around. Plenty of parking. I think other people go here to spend some time and not only for picture taking.Bring a sweater, it gets cold down there.Keep in mind that you’ll have to pay for the e-toll on the way back to San Francisco.

2023-07-17 03:05:48Fort Baker was originally part of the fortifications to protect the Golden Gate from attack. Now its part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Horseshoe Bay has a marina and a fishing pier. The waterfront has a fantastic view of the Golden Gate Bridge. The major points of interest are the Coast Guard dock, a boutique hotel, and the Bay Area Discovery museum. Today we visited the Travis Marina Bar at the Presidio Yatch Club. The bar is open to everyone and it is a comfortable casual spot. They have a short menu if youre hungry and they often offer live music.

2022-06-25 12:19:07Worth a visit. Only came for pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge. Great spot to see it. Easy drive and parking is free. Depending on time and day, no one was there Friday sunset. Couple people took pictures of their sports cars at this location. Cold as usual. Love the sight of beach pebbles n water.

2023-07-10 03:35:29Less traveled way to see the Golden Gate. Beautiful Presidio grounds (Sausalito side), stop in for a drink/meal at Cavallo Point Lodge - craft cocktails, lovely.
