Fukuno Restaurant in Gardena

A small family run izakaya tucked into the far end corner of a strip of restaurants. Easy to overlook if one drives by too quickly. Run by an older couple, it has a very cosy atmosphere with authentic izakaya style tapas. The seabream and kohada was very fresh the day we went, the tuna was prepped well. The sashimi was properly cut and everything was exquisitely prepared by the owner chef.

This family-run place has been rocking since 1994. I cannot recommend it enough!Standout dishes include the Gindara Misoyaki, the Tori Kushiyaki Yuzukosho, Yakinasu, and their pressed sushi. This place doesn’t miss, and includes a wide variety of sake + Japanese beer to complement your meal. Recommendations strongly encouraged, and small groups only, but totally worth it!

This place is underrated and should deserve more LIKE! Very authentic family style Japanese Kappo restaurant. This place is very small but it is very comfortable inside. I highly recommend the grilled oyster, sushi, sashimi, black cod and the signature chirashi bowl. Their sashimi is very fresh and the chirashi bowl is worth the price. The restaurant is located inside a small plaza next to the famous Japanese Nagomi Cake house.Quick tips: This place will take some time to prepare your foods. Just chill and be patient.

Super cute restaurant. Come here if you want very cozy, lowkey vibes. The seafood nabe was good, although portion was kind of small for the price. All the sushi and nigiri was solid, like you’d expect from any humble Japanese restaurant. Super extensive menu, so a lot of options to try from!

Been here a few times and have always left satisfied with my meal. Inside is cozy, seating wise there is a sushi bar area that can fit maybe 8-10 people. There are tables as well, overall I think capacity is less than 50. I have been fortunate enough to dine in without having to make a reservation which is highly recommended. I just made sure to show up right within the first 20 minutes of them opening. This place will fill up pretty quickly seeing that they are only open for dinner service. The couple that run this restaurant do a great job, the older lady is very attentive and quickly clears your empty dishes so that they dont stack or crowd your table. The sushi chef is a master of his craft. The maki rolls and nigiri are old school style so please dont show up expecting to find california rolls or rainbow rolls. The fresh oysters and chicken yakitori skewers with yuzu kosho are downright delicious.

I loved everything about this. I’m very glad and proud that the South Bay has such a strong Japanese cuisine scene!

Dinner and service were amazing. Order the fried half chicken and wings. Their pork belly dish is delicious. Our service was on point. Perfect dinner spot to catch up with friends.

Had such a beautiful dinner here - will definitely be back! The sushi and sashimi were delicious, and all of the cooked dishes were fantastic. Service was exceptional. A very special place!

Small mom/pop operated store reopened after lockdown.Hours change, menu changed as now they offers take out only.Taste is still superior than most Japanese restaurants nearby and the box items change from time to time.You get a lot of items in box and they all taste good.Need to support small local business!!

This is an authentic sushi restaurant. I would have taken more photos but I feel like I would be depriving myself of a culinary experience. This is fresh, unpretentious and perfectly executed food. 5 stars!
