GAI Chicken & Rice in San Francisco

This restaurant has delicious chicken rice, a clean interior, and a menu with a good selection, but not too many things. However, the chicken broth was too salty and the restroom was a disaster zone with fresh paint.I had the Crispy Gai ($15.15 after tax, before tip), which was done about 12 minutes after ordering. I chose Hainan sauce for my sauce. The chicken was tender inside and crispy outside, and tasted great, which is what I expected. The rice was perfectly cooked. The sauce was minced ginger and green onion in some oil. I thought that half the container was plenty. The chicken broth tasted like real chicken, not like bouillon or some other cheap alternative. However, it had too much salt, so I didnt finish it.The restaurant didnt have many customers dining in, but they were swamped with delivery orders. I saw a slip that was about 3ft long coming out of the order printer (theres a photo for proof). Overall, this is a great place to order reasonably priced, good chicken rice, and I recommend it if youre in the area.

[Delivery Review] so excited to have hainanese chicken rice similar to the ones I have had in Singapore. The rice is flavorful, the chicken tender, and the chili sauce has a nice kick. Overall a satisfying lunch (and good packaging).Did not care as much for the complimentary soup.

I travel a lot for work and try to enjoy good cuisine wherever I go. This spot was recommended to me by my colleague and he did not lie when he said it was incredibly flavorful and that the sauces were beyond delicious. I am only here for one more weekend and plan to go for dinner all 3 nights to try something different.Highly recommend!

Ate here yesterday on a whim and wow what a great experience. While the area can be a bit unpredictable, the food was fantastic. Cannot recommend the crispy chicken with chicken rice enough. The noodles were good too but we preferred the crispy chicken. Literally some of the best in the city. Flawless seasoning and execution. So impressed. Ordering is done online as there wasn’t a cashier so that was a little odd but no big deal. So good.

Fast service, Dan Dan Noodles with beef/chicken peanut sauce, served in to-go containers - Get the Vietnamese Iced Coffee - Excellent! Perfect before-the-show, quick-n-dirty dinner, right across the street from the show. If you are lucky, the locals will have a sidewalk garage sale of lost treasure right outside the window.

I ordered the sweet chili wings and the original gai with sweet chili sauce and onion ginger sauce. I was unbelievably impressed with flavors, the chicken quality, and the portion size. This is one of the best lunches in San Francisco. 10/10 recommend!

Ive been a fan of their location on 16th Street for a while, so was pleased to see they have a second location convenient to downtown. I met a friend before seeing a movie at the Metreon. This location is great, with the same delicious chicken rice as their original location. I recommend you try the hoi an sweet and tangy sauce, its my favorite. They even offer a discount when you show your movie ticket! Youve gotta check it out. I enjoyed it so much I forgot to take a picture of the food.

Big fan of Hainan chicken - and the place is good. I can’t explain why it felt a little greasy… it’s a poached chicken, but there was something different in how they made.Would I come again - maybe. Is it the best hainan in the city, yes.

Was so starving during my visit in San Fransisco, I miss to have a bowl of rice and hot soup. So happy finally found this cute restaurant. Thank you for the black sweety chasier who helped me with the meals. She was so stunning!

Tried out the new item “Gai Sando” in April. The price is reasonable and the fried chicken is juicy.Previous review:Very nice experience dining in! We ordered an original Gai, Dan dan noodles and 5 spice chicken wings. All items were good. The chicken wings were so tasty, highly recommended!
