2023-08-11 00:28:40Taste :4.4/5Environment: 4.2/5Service:4.1/5Garlic and Chives is located at the Brookhurst Place Shopping Center, next to the 22 freeway. The restaurant has a casual and cozy atmosphere, with wooden tables and chairs, colorful paintings on the walls, and a large menu board. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the service is quick and efficient. You can order online or by phone, or dine in if you prefer. One of the highlights of Garlic and Chives is their mango salad, which is one of their signature dishes. The mango salad is made with shredded green mango, carrots, onions, cilantro, peanuts, fried shallots, and a tangy dressing. It is served with crispy shrimp crackers and grilled pork skewers. The salad is refreshing, crunchy, and sweet, with a hint of spiciness from the dressing. The shrimp crackers add a nice contrast of texture and flavor, and the pork skewers are tender and smoky. You can also choose from other salads on their menu, such as papaya salad, lotus root salad, or banana blossom salad.

2023-11-17 20:00:14A nice clean restaurant competing with OC and Lau next door. The grilled scallops were tasty but very small scallops so fairly pricey. The vegetable on choy with pork belly and snail was a disappointment as the snail was over cooked and very chewy and there was not very much fat pork and the shrimp paste was not good with the snail slices. The fried toothpick lamb was well seasoned with a nice cumin taste but was also a bit too overfried taking away tenderness and moisture, but a good portion. View my pictures

2023-07-11 07:11:53The papaya salad was very bright and fun and paired great with the crispy (shrimp?) chips. I just wish there was more chips. Loved the bo luc lac and how saucy it was. The garlic noodles were... kinda unremarkable and felt very one dimensional. Service was fine and we enjoyed our time here.Definitely get the salmon belly. So amazingly crispy and flavorful!Food: 7/10Service: 6/10Atmosphere: 5/10Value: 6/10

2023-11-30 15:36:24This place is not a bad place to go if you want a twist on your traditional Vietnamese dishes. I tried the salmon kho to which is usually made with catfish. It’s pretty good with the crispy rice in clay pot.

2023-01-09 20:16:36Came in on New Year’s Day and there was no wait and empty tables. Food is flavorful with a good price tag.My favorite was the Pomelo Salad which just had an different flavor profiles with each bite. The filet mignon was a tad too salty for my taste. And the razor clams were a hit at our table.Didn’t know they were Michelin star! Good food and people. Tipi is already included in the receipt. Love small restaurants! Other reviews say there is a wait, I would maybe go on an off day. Would return !

2023-01-03 16:43:59Wow, what a gem. If it was reviewed by Jonathan Gold, you know you won’t be disappointed. We had a party of eight, and here’s what we ordered: Deep fried salmon belly X2, Shaken filet mignon w/whole garlic X2, Blood clams, Green papaya beef jerky salad, Pomelo salad, Fried rice with fish, Charbroiled colossal black tiger shrimp garlic noodles, Caramelized cat fish, chow fun-type noodles with beef. Everything was excellent. Staff communication with customer is not great (we were waiting at the door for 5 min without anyone talking to us or telling us what to do), but still nice people.

2022-10-27 22:56:12If youre of a weak lineage and MSG gives you headaches, probably dont eat here.Everything is plated well. Like every good Asian place, the food speaks for itself. I didnt really need service because the food was amazing. The blood clams fall right off the shell and taste amazing with the fish sauce they give you.The greens and chunky garlic were perfect and not greasy. It was a great complement dish to eat with the clams and other meat dishes we ordered.I saw them bring out the lobster and I wish I had ordered that because the portion size for it looked huge.I honestly dont think this place is fusion, I think its just full Vietnamese but they play classical music in the background. Most of the time I was eating, they had the Harry Potter, Goblet of Fire soundtrack playing so I wasnt even mad 🔥

2023-01-28 20:59:26It had a 2019 Michelin mention. What went wrong!! Did ownership changed? Did the chef changed? We ordered three dishes and every one of them were blah or just sad. I seldom give bad reviews. Mostly because I do try to get restaurants before I go there. I think the previous owner must have cashed out and didn’t give the secret ingredient or technique for the recipes. Please do better.

2022-07-15 16:33:50All the dishes were very tasty but maybe too tasty as I suspect a lot of salt and our MSG as Ive never been so thirsty. Service was friendly and prompt. I would rank the dishes I ordered1. Sea Snails $15 - very meaty2. Clams $16 - bit sweet but flavorful3. On choy (rau muốn xào tỏi) $17 - small portion for the price4. Razor clams $16 - Very small portionRecommend you eat everything while theyre hot/warm. After it cools down it gets very rubbery and firm.

2021-06-26 11:43:43The food is just ok, nothing is outstanding. But very good service. The tables are divided and separated by the large size of clear plastic walls. I don’t like the butter fried chicken and crunchy salmon belly, they were too much greasy. I love shredded dried beef papaya salad, so delicious. The hot stone pot with pork is good with rice. The fried tofu is boring. Honestly maybe I didn’t order the right plates, our dinner were not as we expected.
