2023-07-06 16:50:00We went to purchase steamed rice for our dog who needed a bland diet due to diarrhea. We were traveling with no cooking facilities and needed to find a store on July 4th that sold steamed rice. We found Gelson’s in Westlake Village and bought among other items two bowls of steamed rice at the poke bar which weighed in at 1.23 pounds according to the receipt. There were no signs - see photo - posted warning customers that the rice would be charged at $20 a pound, same as the poke. At checkout the clerk said nothing as he rang up two clear plastic bowls of rice. When we got back to the hotel, we realized what was charged. We expect ridiculously high prices at Gelson’s but $20 a pound for steamed rice. Yes we should have read the receipt at the store before leaving but we are used to receiving high prices at this chain. Today we went to the customer service desk to request an adjustment. The gentleman initially refused at first to while at the same time acknowledging that there should be signage warning customers that rice is charged at the same price as the poke. He relented after we pushed and gave us $10 which still makes the rice around $11 a pound. Very disappointed. We also are giving three stars for the tired condition of the store and limited selection compared to the other Gelson’s we have visited in Palm Springs.

2023-10-25 18:21:41Every visit to Gelsons is memorable. My mother began shopping at the Century City location when it first opened in 1971. The shelves are all beautifully stocked and everyone from the bagging people to the store managers are friendly and helpful. I can trust that the produce is always fresh. No finer bakery than Benes!

2023-12-08 08:15:13The bakery was half gone before 4pm and the prices on the cookies is outrageous. Other than that the store is very nice, clean and well organized.

2023-11-19 19:17:19No scale near the salad bar area so I may measure the weight of my meal...I have to walk the entire store to produce to weigh or wait for the Deli crew to be available to do it (They are very accommodating but wait time varies)

2023-10-04 21:01:20The store is well lit and inviting. Everything is well stocked. The fish, meat and produce departments are quality. Customer service is great. Aisles are wide to enable shoppers.

2022-12-05 23:40:40Today, Bobby in the Deli, made me the best Italian hoagie I’ve ever had!!!!! Please make this a permanent menu item ❤️❤️❤️🥪🥪🥪 the pesto is the secret sauce to success!!!! I’m calling it, “The Big Bobbino!”Not only does Bobby make a mean torpedo, he’s just an absolute gentleman, in fact, Gelson’s only employs TRUE ladies and gentlemen! I love this location and will come back every time I’m in town because these people are family!Elmer, Alfonso, Bobby, Jim - All gentlemen, everyone in the store wearing are a pleasure to be around.Thank you from the bottom of my heart folks! And keep up the great work Bobby!

2023-09-10 23:44:16Overall, Gelsons Westlake Village is a good store. I thought the produce this visit was not up to Gelsons standards. The organic green squash did not look fresh and was from Mexico. Not worth the $2.00/each. I went next door to Sprouts and bought much nicer organic ones that were from the USA for $2.00/pound. Sprouts also had organic fresh turmeric(not available at Gelsons). Ive been going to Gelsonss since I was a child with my parents. Its still a very nice, clean store, but just a step better than a high end Ralphs. In the old days, going to Gelsons meant something. Now it just means you are going to pay more for the same everyday items available in the large chain stores. You would never have seen anything on the shelves with corn syrup in it. Nothing fake. I hope someone in management takes what I say to heart. The store just needs to be tweaked a little. You still have the best roasted chicken. It would be great to go to a store that does not sell every day items with a list of ingredients that are a mile long. Erowan market is very expensive, but offers better quality items.
