This was my second time dining at Gem with a new guest and they didnt disappoint us at all. My guest was completely blown away by the food, service and presentation. Their fusion take and spin on familiar Asian/Latin/Cajun flavors presented in a whole new way is exciting and a pleasure to enjoy. I will definitely be back again for more. I do wish they had a healthier beef, pork or chicken mid-priced option on the menu for diners who dont feel like seafood, carb heavy foods, or rich fatty menu items.
Met two other couples for dinner and we all enjoyed our meals and atmosphere. Our favorites included the Soft Shell Crab appetizer, Tom Yum Pasta, Laksa Rissoto, Braised Pork Shank and Beef Cheek Sisig. The specialty cocktails were ok, but nothing particularly stood out as special, nor seemed worth the price. I even tried their bone marrow infused bourbon. Flavor was the same as a regular old fashioned, but left an annoying coating on my tongue for an hour afterwards. All in all Id recommend Gem.
Gem earns their 5 stars. I made a reservation at the bar, and it was impeccable service the entire night, with host, bartenders (Luke, Dewey, Ted), and even head chef all treating us well and checking in on us to make sure we were having a great time. The bar tenders were super accommodating about our food allergy and double-checking to make sure we would be okay.My favorite drink is the Calamansi Paloma - it was a good balance between smokey and citrus.For food, I found the Mala Cauliflower to be surprisingly addictive and not too ma la (numbing spicy). The beef carpaccio was also superb, coming in strong with a meaty beef flavor balanced with peanuts and herbs. To me, this was a true fusion dish, delicately carrying in elements of cream from beef carpaccio with peanuts and mint from Vietnamese be thui.
Everyone wants to dine here and very popular spot!! It is part of the same restaurant group, Kei Concepts. You must make reservations via Resy and they require a deposit in case of cancellations or no shows within 24 hours of reservation. It is $30 per person if anyone in your party is a no show.Day time it is Nếp Café and night time it is Gem Dining. Something I learned recognizing same location as Nếp Café! Great multipurpose use!My party ordered so many items. We basically tried half the menu!!- Oysters half shell with 1 oyster uni add-on for extra $5- Beef Wagyu Carpaccio (no picture)- Soft shell crab- Lomo Saltado Octopus- Whole grilled branzino- Laksa risotto- Braised pork shank- Tom Yin Linguini- P.C.S. cocktailDont add uni on your oysters. It is $5 add-on and not worth it. Puny piece. Id say all appetizers are star choices among the menu. The octopus was cooked perfectly and had plenty of acidity and savory balance. Soft shell carb was excellent! Savory and crunch from the fresh fried crab. I would order all appetizers again except for oysters. Unless you know what kind of oysters you get specifically, dont get it.Main entrees were pretty good but not shout out worthy. My fav was the Branzino since thats best way to know how fresh their seafood is and it was definitely fresh! Tender and juicy freshness. The pork shank, Laksa risotto, and Tom Yun Linguini were all very heavy, creamy, and spicy. Tasty but was just too heavy. If you order these, dont order too many appetizers. These entrees are so food coma level heavy!! Felt like I finished a buffet after dinner!We were going to get the beef cheek sisig but waitress was Filipino and felt the Pork Shank was much better option. I do not agree lol. I wish we would have gotten the sisig even it if isnt made traditionally. Oh well. We ordered so much that there really is no need to come again. This is a one and done type of visit. Now we know the food and we can move on to other places haha.Overall great dining service but place was freaking hot! Where is the AC. It is weak!! I felt like I was in the tropics feeling the sticky warm weather. Service was fantastic and friend got a complimentary cake pop for bday celebration! Thanks for a great time!
We ordered the soft shell crab and octopus as appetizers. The crab was soft and juicy, with the chili sauce balancing it well. The octopus was well grilled and tender. The aji sauce enhanced the flavor of the octopus as well. For the mains, we ordered the squid ink pasta and laksa risotto. The waft of tum yum sauce can be smelled and the flavor was spot on with a nice spicy kick. I think a slice of lime will help balance the dish more. I like my pasta on the softer side so it matched my taste. The laksa was a bit sweeter with a hint of spice but the seafood flavor comes across excellently. You can tell a lot of time went to make the broth. The crab was fresh and tender. To finish, we ordered the sticky toffee pudding. The drama was surprising and the pudding was warm and sweet. Went well with the ice cream and whip cream. A great way to finish the meal.
Thankful to have been able to dine here before the hiatus. The service, presentation, and food are of the best caliber.
I was very skeptical of this place as there are a lot of other restaurants that have the same dining concepts in orange county. This place turned out to be one of my favorite dining spots in OC. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was amazing. Definitely a must eat place if you are able to get a reservation.
Bread and cajun butter, octopus lomo saltado, pork shank, tomahawk steak, beef cheek sisig, crispy pork lettuce wrap, szechuan eggplant, soft shell crab. Had a pretty extensive tasting at Gem dining and it was delicious. i think a crispy element in the sisig would have helped the dish, think sisig from house of lechon in PI...that was perfection. The pork shank was prob my least favorite. 3/5 ish? everything else was a 4 or 5 out 5. the pork on the shank was actually very tender and cooked well. its just that the flavor profile didnt feel balanced and maybe a little too sweet for a dish i expected to be collagen-y sticky savory.
Made a reservation for 4 people at 6:15pm got to the restaurant at 6pm with 5 people. The hostess Rachel at the front told us to seat outdoor or wait til 8pm to be seated indoor. So I told Rachel I had cancel because my fiancé is pregnant and she cant eat outdoor or wait two hours outside. A few days later I get a cancellation fees charge of $150 in my account. Even tho I was there early and even told the rude hostess Rachel we had to cancel but was still charged $150??? I came back on Monday when it wasnt busy but food was mediocre imo not worth the price and not Michelin worthy. I ask my tomahawk steak and wagyu to be medium. Tomahawk steak came well done was VERY fatty at least 50% of the steak was fatty and Wagyu was rare. The server we had was very well mannered and well trained. Im just writing this review because of the hostess Rachel gave my family really bad vibe and energy. And charged me $150 cancellation fee even tho my family showed up early and couldnt even eat that day. If this place had better trained hostess the food would absolutely taste better.
We had dinner at Gem Dining tonight. It was a last minute plan, so we didn’t have reservations. We were able to get seated at the bar right away.The Soft Shell Crab, West Coast Oysters, and Lomo Saltado Octopus appetizers were absolutely amazing!Our main course was the Tom Yum Pasta. Wow!!! Such incredible flavor! ❤️Luke introduced himself and took great care of us. I asked for his recommendation for a drink, and asked about several options. Based on my preferences, he was spot on in recommending the Clarified Milk Punch! All the drinks looked really good, so we’ll have to go back and try them.Even David, the manager, came by to check in and make sure we were enjoying the food and the service! All the staff were very friendly and attentive.The whole experience was wonderful! We can’t wait to going back!
My daughter-in-law took my son and me for our birthdays. None of us had ever been. The place looked nice and had the open kitchen. Not a large menu which was perfect. The food was presented brilliantly and tasted even better. The server was funny and attentive. Im going to take my wife, shell love it.
AMAZING RESTAURANT! I can’t wait to come back! Service was outstanding and I’ve never been to any place like this. From the moment I set foot inside, I knew this place was one of a kind. I did make a reservation 3 days prior, but there were empty tables so I think walk-ins were ok. We dined here on a Monday at 6:30PM. I was greeted at the door, and everyone was just so friendly. Their dishes were unique and delicious. The manager even walked around and checked in on us. We asked for to-go boxes, and I was surprised they packed it for us. Definitely coming back to try other dishes.

If you’re looking for some flavorful food, give Gem Dining a try! Everything I ordered was delicious. My favorite dish is definitely the Squid Ink Tagliatelle, which has a slight spice kick to it. Aside from the food, the customer service and ambiance was great also.
One of the best dining experiences we’ve had in SoCal on quite some time. We arrived for our reservations and we’re seated promptly at 6.Overall the food was absolutely delicious and creative. My only real critique is if anything, the food came out quickly and was rushed. Additionally I wouldn’t say anything about the service was hospitable, even that felt rushed. There was no chatter, no explanation of food items, no anecdotes, just rushed service.But the food could speak for itself! We had the clams, the bone marrow elote, the Panko crab, the coconut cream crudo, the crab/shrimp/scallop risotto and the wagyu with mushrooms. We also had the espresso tiramisu and the browned pineapple with sorbet and hibiscus cream.Honestly the food was delicious, the service was quick and prompt. We absolutely plan on going back. Would have just enjoyed a service that was a bit more genuine, personable and didn’t feel so rushed.
If youre looking for a place to overpay for food because they make it look really fancy, then this is the place for you! Really was not impressed - food was good and presentation was great, but every plate was small portions, and the flavors werent exciting or different or anything that made me think oh man, this is something Ive never tasted before! I have to come here again for this! For that, Id say its not really worth it.The highlight was probably the desserts, but wouldnt recommend going just for that.
Best Asian fusion restaurant in OC. Enough said. Try the laksa risotto, mushroom and wagyu, seared scallops and octopus appetizer. The sea bass was wonderful but maybe avoid the clams. I actually didn’t think the steak was all that flavorful. I like a more smoky flavor and not every restaurant smokes their meat enough.
Truly a gem. Possibly the best Asian fusion food in Orange County. The oysters, kampachi crudo, and Singaporean chili crab were just a few of the many delicious dishes we tried. Will definitely be dining here again. Outdoor seating is a huge plus as well.
Great spot for date night or celebrations. On the pricier side but worth the experience.For food, would recommend Singaporean Soft Shell Crabs (not exactly Singapore chilli crabs but still delicious), Tom Yum Fettuccine, Laksa Risotto, Chilean Bass. For desserts, Sticky Toffee Pudding was my favorite! The 3 sorbet was also good (for those who dont like super sweet).Drinks were all really good.. Really liked Queen Bee and Coco Pandan
Went there for my anniversary dinner. Absolutely amazing! Our server were super nice and attentive, same with the rest of the staff. Food was incredible, we left the restaurant feeling full but not bloated like other places we went to. Would recommend for special occasions.

The dining was an excellent experience from walking up to get a seat from the staff all the way through to the dessert finale. The appetizers that my girlfriend and I got were the foie gras and soft shelled crab, both packed with plenty of flavor that left you wanting some more. We washed our palates down with delicious cocktails (the empress and a P.C.S.). Moving on to the main course, we ordered a mouth watering Australian wagyu and a creamy laksa risotto. To top off the night, we ordered a honey and yuzu cheesecake and a lava tiramisu. Throughout the entire dining experience, our waitress was attentive to our needs and was very friendly. If you havent gone to this place, I recommend you try it at least once for an unforgettable adventure in delicious cuisines.
I am a huge procrastinator but Ive been wanting to write a review for this place and now its temp closed due to covid.No pun intended but it truly is a gem. I ate here with a friend catching up and let me tell you, from the atmosphere, the staff, and to the FOOD. Its all perfect. Ive never met any staff that is incredibly natural, professional, accommodating, and extremely friendly.One waitress I had, I dont remember her name but please help me identify her. She helped me get another one of those deserts that had liquid nitrogen infused honeycombs so I can clap into it for my video, TWICE. She gave great recommendations, and I just know, shes going places.I had appetizers, main course, and deserts and all so creative and incredibly delicious. I will be coming back here.

This was undoubtedly one of my favorite meals of 2020, due to a menu that is not only well-executed with quality ingredients, but memorable for its creativity. Everything about Gem feels like it belongs in the upscale parts of LA, yet its Viet/Asian influence make it feel right at home in OC.COVID measures:They have a big tent that is mostly walled off, as well as some open air seating. I will say that the big tent raised some red flags for us in terms of proper ventilation and we were prepared to cancel our reservation if that was the only seating option. Luckily, we didnt get seated there, but I think its definitely something to note and if it makes you uncomfortable, call head to request an open air table. Socially distanced seating, servers wear masks and gloves. Some indoor dining allowed as of 11/30.APPETIZERS* Oysters: ($3/ea): good oysters. I probably wouldnt order again just to save my appetite/budget for other items! We opted not to add uni for $7 since it seemed steep, and our wagyu app already came with uni.* Uni & Wagyu ($19): Really luxurious bites. The truffle soy added the right amount of salt to bring out the flavors.* Bone Marrow Elote ($14): loved this app. the fresh bone marrow smelled incredible and just melted into the roasted corn. Pork chicharron and fried shallot added nice umamiMAINS* Squid Ink Tagliatelle ($28) Star of the meal. Stunning to look at and flavor was on. point. The tom yum cream perfectly captured the flavorful, tingling spice that I love in curry, and had generous chunks of fresh scallop, crab, and shrimp. My bf is super sensitive to shellfish and enjoyed this no problem.I would absolutely order again.* Beef Tongue ($28): Seared medium rare. Very tender with a slight chew, not quite melt in your mouth but the center of each piece was nearly there. I like that they let you garnish with salt and seasoning to taste. This was prepared better than a high end JBBQ restaurant I visited before.DESSERT* Citrus Terrarium ($15): I was in awe of this gorgeous dessert. Really does look like a little ecosystem in a jar. Im familiar with the flavors individually (yuzu panna cotta, kumquat, mint, pomelo...), but prepared in this way it was truly delightful. I was so sad when we finished this* Matcha Ceremony ($15): the most IG friendly dish on the menu, bc they serve it over dry ice to create billowing clouds at your table. The dessert itself was good quality, but beyond presentation, I felt the other dishes of the night were more exciting and creative!DRINKS - dont sleep on the cocktails here!* Coconut & Pandan ($12) - i could have 2 more, these are dangerous haha* Viet-jito ($12) - they use vietnamese coriander instead of mint and it really adds a different and pleasant herby flavor.
A trendy Asian fusion food place. The positives, the food is good, environment is trendy with an open kitchen, service is friendly, and the bathroom is clean. The best dish we had were the oysters. They were fresh and the iced sauce was something different.The negatives, the price is high and the portions small. I walked out slightly hungry. The meat that the dishes come with are small and thinly sliced. IMO the price does not justify the value.

I heard so much about Gem dining and Nep Cafe, I decided to give it a try. It is definitely a perk that we can reserve a table online and plan your dinner visit ahead of time. There will however be a cancelation charge if you cancel last minute.Gem dining located right next to the Alley and close to miles park . The restaurant has a very cute tropical feeling indoors, but we were seated in the outdoor area inside a tent. The experience definitely less comfortable outdoors than indoors. We ordered two appetizers to start with. If you know me, you know how much I love bone marrow!! I gotta try every place that has a bone marrow!!First came the fresh snapper appetizer. It looks so pretty with the green sauce and it tastes extremely refreshing with citrus flavors. The fish is melting in your mouth along with slice of tangerine.Our second appetizers is the bone marrow with corn!!! Loved the savory bone marrow mixed with sweet corn. Crispy corn and bone marrow melting in your mouth.... mmmmm.. I dont need to say much about that flavor, you should try it!!!Then we ordered the main entree: wagu beef with mushrooms and salted egg yolk crab pasta. Things started to go downhill from there.The Wagyu beef with mushrooms tastes like something I would make for lunch during work. Very light flavor and the texture of the beef is pretty chewy..... definitely not a dish I am willing to pay 25+ dollars for .....The salted egg yolk crab pasta, I could barely taste the salted egg yolk. Overall, the pasta sauce is too creamy and again very light flavors with barely any crab there. Something I could easily make at home again... 25+ dollars is overkill. Gem is a new dining place. Already got a lot of attention. Very crowded. The food is Asian food and Asian inspired although they might have Western dish. All the spicy dishes are very spicy so beware of that. However, if you like spicy, then the spicy food here is very good. All the food here is very tasty and delightful. The main dish portion is on a smaller side. Although the appetizer and others are actually regular portion. Ordered: Singaporean soft shell crab, bed tongue tacos, Szechuan Spicy lamb pasta, Salted Egg Yolk Crab Pasta, and Bone Marrow with roasted corn. Highly recommended. We had a party of 8 for a little Secret Santa holiday gathering and we decided to get a little bit of everything on the menu. We arrived a bit early to the dinner and they seated us without a full party which was nice. About 10 minutes passed and we were all together.We ate family style for 8 people.Ordered: Tomahawk Steak, Bone Marrow Elote, Beef Tongue Fried Rice, Egg Yolk Crab Pasta, and Hamachi KaWe started with some bread and what I believe was a special butter that I couldn’t get enough of. The Tomahawk steak was surprisingly good for about 8 people. Salted Egg Crab noodles were my favorite as well as the Bone Marrow Elote.Make sure to check in on yelp if you want some delicious tea. (There’s a few to select from).Great ambience, great service, and high quality food for special occasions.
Exquisite twists of all the dishes create refreshing and exciting taste profiles. Everything well seasoned. Great atmosphere with the casual fine dining, but we wish it wasnt so loud. Staff is friendly and attentive. For the price point, its definitely a must try! Great job Chef Viet Nguyen and the kei concepts team.
Terrible service!The front waitress never greeted at both coming and leaving. No simile, ignorant. Very unprofessional.I had a reservation at 7:30, and I arrived right on time. But the table was not ready. Then the unbelievable thing was that the waitress pointed at the door and asked us to wait outside without any apology. Note that the waiting area at front desk is large enough, wouldn’t disturb other diners at all. This is very rude!10 mins later, we asked for the progress, the waitress said the previous diners hadn’t checked out yet. What’s the function of reservation (even with cancellation fee) in this restaurant??? After several complaints, they finally gave us a desk.The service during dinning was better, though no much. Waited for a long time before the waiter brought some water. Then waited for a long time before someone came to take the order. Paper menus were not provided unless asked, the font of e-menu was tiny and terribly hard to read. The waiter didn’t offer plate changing unless called.This is a mid-to-high class restaurant in term of price, but the service quality is far lower than standard.The food is worth a try, which is why I added 1 star. Though note that the portion is really small, except the steak.
Absolutely exquisite dining experience. If you love Vox Kitchen, come here. Its the same owner but the dining experience is more upscale as opposed to Voxs casual dining style. Of course, the menu items here are definitely up there on the scale in price, but definitely worth every penny. The staff as well are super friendly - I actually think theyre friendlier than staff at Vox. Food is absolutely delicious and definitely shareable with family or friends. My favorites were the salted egg yolk crab pasta, Cajun butter, oysters and tomahawk.
First time here at Nep and it was delicious. I loved the filet with the eggs but the real sleeper here is the fried rice with beef tounge. I thought it was more tender than the filet. Overall, a nice restaurant. Be prepared for a wait if you have a larger group or make a reservation. I was able to eat at the bar with a friend and only waited 5 minutes.
The food was pretty good here. It had a good food fusion, flavorful. I got the bone marrow, and it was great. Inside dining is a much better experience in my opinion.
Party of 10 went with a 6pm reservation on a Thursday evening in August. We were seated right at the entrance, which proved to be a bit noisy. The food was good. We were able to try bits of a variety of dishes - the crab appetizer, uni toast, Tom yum linguini, tomahawk steak, lamb shank, etc. I especially loved the lamb. Other items were okay. The sticky toffee dessert is the standout, so we had a bunch of those. Service was okay, but they did seem to be not refilling our water glasses towards the end. It is an expensive place, coming to around 90$ per head, including tips and taxes.

Incredible experience. Wait staff was prompt and friendly. Some of the cocktails they werent familiar on but they could always find out the answer for you. Everything came out quickly and tasted great. Personally preferred the salted egg and crab pasta and the oysters. Be prepared for a wait if you dont have reservations or come around 5:30 when they open to get seated quickly.

I read somes reviews. And want to trying I agreed completely with another review nothing special, pictures only 3 I ordered total 5 items for two persons. The bill $140 had little to go. I did eat before honestly. I mostly concern the softsell crabs where they get it ( in the us don’t have ).
Everything was super flavorful and our server, Kevin, as well as the rest of the staff, was super attentive and helpful. Absolutely recommend for a date night or celebration! My wife and I came here for our 7th anniversary and it was the perfect compliment to our night. I love my wife for being so smart and intuitive picking such a great spot. Cant wait to return!
The wait time was 175 minutes. And you needed to be within 15 miles to check into the waitlist on Yelp. But the hype is real, fam. Six people. $66 each. Ate all the recommendations. Worth it.
Some friends brought us here on vacation last week. We had the filet, the fried rice, and chicken and fries for our daughter. I was very pleased by everything. A $65 filet is hit or miss at a lot of places, and as often as not you feel it wasnt worth the price. This one was though. It was the best meal of our trip to Southern California. Highly recommend.

The food here was magificent. The elote with bone marrow was amazing and the octopus was cooked perfectly. The only thing i might dock them on at all was the drinks, their balance wasnt quiiiite at the level of the food (although they were still very good)And the price was also totally worth it. I would love to give this restaurant higher marks but the service was really slow. We had a reservation here for my sons 18th birthday at 8:30 at night. The table was ready but it took us 40 minutes to get drinks and anything other than water. While our server was nice, we could not get her attention. And even if we did it was clear that they have other staff that brings out drinks and food so there was no one person to speak with. Everyone just ignored us. The food was great though...but unfortunately we probably wont be back.
This is the vietnamese fusion restaurant which offers a good range of asian cuisine. The food is really good as expected. Definitely will come back to try more dishes.

The food was good. Branzino fish was delicious but lacked substantial sides. The risotto was spicier than it should have been and they charged us to correct it. Portions were small. For the price I simply expected more.
Food is great and wait staff have great customer service. Thank you to the host on 12/28 for assisting me with my needs because I did not dine this evening. I only recommend this place if you are going to physically dine there yourself.Ive been here before and the food was amazing. Wanted the give the same experience to special guests of mine for Christmas and made the reservation. However, there were no options to buy gift cards or prepay for the dinner. I reached out by phone twice and email three times regarding payment and did not get a response until day of the reservation (it took 4 days for a response) which forced me to dine there because if I cancelled, I would be charged $30 a head for cancelling on the day of. They did not have any options for me to pay for the dinner other than to physically be there and even when I was there to drop off the card, luckily, I was physically here visiting from San Francisco otherwise I would be screwed, and no one check to see if the card belonged to me. I had to pull out my drivers license myself to show that it was me. Despite the trouble of dropping the card off to pay for the meals, they still gave the bill to my guests to pay for it. My guests called me to inquire about the matter which was so frustrating and embarrassing because I had already have to go through so many loops and processes to even get them there. I do not recommend recommending this restaurant to others to dine at if you want to pay for it because it is not possible or worth it. You would think the company that has so many other successful sister restaurants would be a little more customer service efficient.
Tamarind sour better cocktail when lychee martini. Food is good, but more expensive then other same restaurant.
Great service, romantic setting (pretty dark actually) Pricey. Soft shell crab is the best-must have. Squid ink pasta was pretty good. Branzino fish ($41!!!!) was uniquely prepared but not worth it. I would come back here again & try something different.
One of my favorite spots in OC. Great food and service was impeccable. We really enjoyed everything and the fact my father ate everything, its saying something.
Came here for a cute date night. Heres the breakdown of everything we ordered:Squid ink pasta was okay. Was basically a thai curry with black noodles. The squid ink noodles dont really soak up the sauce. The sauce itself night have been better with rice? Im not sure what squid ink is supposed to taste like I always found it to be a little gimmicky.The salted egg linguini was also okay. Good but I would not order it again. The salted egg was extremely subtle. The crab does come out in the dish.Oysters are also okay and more miniature in size. I usually prefer oysters with champagne mignonette and bloody Mary sauce but this came with a blood orange type topping which made it on the sweeter side. They were $3 each. Id only recommend getting this at happy hour for $1.50.Wagyu with uni was also okay. Its hard to find this kind of cut but its worth the experience. Theres definitely better out there but its hard to find.Now on the to stuff thats really worth coming back for...The Cajun butter with bread. So glad we got this the Cajun butter had a little spice with flaky salt. Bread started as a french loaf then we got another for $1. Grilled this time. Worth it!The risotto. Wow this dish is what I will order over and over. Flavor was on point. Spice level made it interesting. Texture was perfect. The seafood flavors soaked up the risotto nicely.Toffee date cake was also delicious. They came on top of a dry ice display which was fun.So all this food along with a bottle of wine came out to $200 (without tip) for two people. Definitely coming back for the risotto and bread. The service here is also really great. Staff is attentive and shares their knowledge of food. Ambiance is a mix of classy and casual. Do it up OC!
Outstanding service and food with a fun presentation! Luke was our main server and the entire team working with him delivered world class service! Would highly recommend to everyone! Their limited time only dessert (crème brûlée mochi) was so good!! The lychee martini was fun with the cotton candy, too. Favorite food item we tried was the Tiger Prawns (appetizer).

For a restaurant that wants to become a destination, this place is lacking. The cocktails are original and well crafted but overpriced for what you get. Of the eight dishes we had, only two were well prepared. The others were either over salted or spiced so that the flavor was lost. Very disappointed.

Best food and experience period. Servers are always cheerful. Kitchen is open so you can see them prepare your food. Food on point. I dont like oysters but their oysters are so fresh. We ordered everything on the menu to try and loved everything. My mother-in-law loved their mussels and sig sig. She is picky with her food but didnt have anything but praises. Being a fan of all Kei Concepts sister restaurants that Ive tried, I was really waiting for an occasion as my excuse to come here and indulge myself in all the tasty fusion dishes they have to offer. Ive already been to Nep Cafe a couple of times and I heard that the same place gets transformed into Gem Dining for dinner time. It was a pretty easy and smooth experience making reservations on Resy. Do note that cancellations of your reservations will come at a cost, so if that is a concern, please be mindful before you make your reservation. I honestly had a great experience here. Food was extremely tasty and the presentations were outstanding. It definitely met my expectations. Service was pretty attentive and dishes came out quickly. It does get packed pretty quickly so Id recommend making reservations as early as you can. It does seem like their menu does have some occasional changes here and there, so if theres something you want to try, come visit before it gets switched out!|| L O C A T I O N / P A R K I N G ||-Located in the same plaza as The Alley, Daves Hot Chicken and more!-Decent amount of parking. May need to go around the building to access more parking spots during peak hours|| F O O D / D R I N K S ||Bread & Butter ($7.00) - Normally, Im used to receiving bread and butter complimentary to my meals, but my friends had raved how good it was. I wonder if theyve thought of possibly selling the cajun butter one day. I think Id know a couple who would be interested to purchase as gifts haha.Soft Shell Crab ($19.00) - Amazing. Super full of flavor and fried to perfection. If youre unsure what to get for your appetizer, this is my #1 choice. Itll prep your palate ready for the flavors of your main dishes.Beef Wagyu Carpaccio $19.00) - Our party had a peanut allergy so I was super thrilled when they were able to remove the peanuts and substitute it with something else (seems to be fried shallots?) so we would still have that crunch factor with every bite. This was delicious, but if I had to choose between the soft shell crab or this, Id go with the soft shell crab.Laksa Risotto ($29.00) - Usually not a huge fan of risotto, but woahh, who would have known both Laksa and Risotto would go so well together. This is also a super rich dish, so Id also recommend sharing this.Australian Wagyu ($90.00) - My favorite main dish and protein of the meal. It already comes as medium rare, which is my go to anyways when I order steak. It was cooked perfectly and I couldnt get enough how the wagyu just melted in my mouth. Im not usually a fan of mashed potatoes, but it was so creamy yet light and went well with each bite of the wagyu. I HIGHLY recommend this dish.USDA Prime Tomahawk ($166.00) - If GEM Dining is your first Tomahawk experience, then Id say its not a bad first time experience. Presentation was beautiful and the meat was so tender, but I did feel like the flavors were lacking a bit compared to the other dishes we had on our table. I couldnt really taste the difference in flavors with the meat and the mixed vegetables. This isnt my first tomahawk experience so I did have slightly higher expectations as it was supposed to be the star of the show, but the flavors kind of fell through. Not to say I didnt enjoy it, I did! Its just that Ive had other places where its made just as tender but packed with flavor.The Empress ($16.00) - Too pretty to drink! The drink was pretty smooth and would be recommended if you like gin based cocktails.
Inspired East/West fusion. Every dish I have had here is amazing. Busy busy place but they can accommodate large parties.
More than a dinner, Gem is an experience. The quality of service is impeccable. Every member of the staff is kind, knowledgeable, and makes you feel like theyre truly happy to see you. The foods presentation is as impressive as the dishes themselves. From appetizers to dessert, everything was perfect. Come here for a date, to celebrate, or just to treat yourself. Youre guaranteed to leave with a smile.
Great service and above average Asian fusion food. The cocktails were hit and miss so order at your own peril. The emperor was better than the other one with cucumber. The pork with bone was probably the highlight. The octopus was pretty good. The risotto was my favorite but none of my friends really liked it.
From starters to desserts Gem gave me a new experience when it comes to Vietnamese food. Came after the expo with coworkers and we had most of the menu and every fish without exception was fantastic. Favorites were the octopus and the uni. The best entree was the risotto by far. Finished with a few desserts as my favorite was the salted caramel brownie. Highly recommend.

Outstanding Menu, and Staff. Get in early or make reservations. David the Manager is awesome and will stop by to check on you like a pro. We ordered a third of the menu and tried as many things as possible. Everything was excellent.
Staff was super nice place was super nice but honestly the food was okay. I feel like it was all hype the drinks were amazing I got to say. Everything was amazing. Service was so fast. No complaints at all. Only a 3 star because the food was only mediocre.
One of the better restaurants in Fountain Valley. A little on the pricey side but not too bad. We enjoyed the quality in every dish. Seafood was well prepared and tender. Service was excellent. The few things that brought it down a little were that the pita bread is cold, not great and the toast with the crab toast was on the hard side. The Cajun butter that comes with the pita bread however is tasty, and the bowl of the crab toast is as well.One last thing - dividers at entry are not placed well, its a bottleneck and the legs stick out.
Very decent and creative food selections and most of all, the service! In my 40 plus years of love for Vietnamese food, never one restaurant has met the service standard of this Country. I mean, most of them serve excellent food but, as services go, one can only expect food on the table, thats all! None of them understands appetizers should be served and eaten before main entrees. Enough said! But this one, Gem, actually have good, knowledgeable, attentive, friendly wait staff! Its truly a rare find on this aspect and I think Ill keep coming even though it is a rather pricey choice!03/2021So, we went again a couple of weeks ago! The prices were over the roof relative to the portions.
Top marks for food, service, and atmosphere. You cant go wrong with anything on their menu, although if I had to choose... I probably prefer their brunch (Nep Cafe) over the dinner (Gem Dining) menu
Upon recommendation from a friend decided to meet couple friends of my husband and i to eat dinner at Gem Dining. Friday evening I arrived at 530 PM promptly at opening to get a table for our group of four as they are fully reserved.The host was friendly and placed my name down on a post it list for walk ins. At 6 PM my husband arrived just right before our two other friends and by then two new hostess were at the desk and when asked if we could please get an inside table (mind there was plenty of indoor tables available) they stated I needed to be on the list to get an inside table since they generally reserve indoor those for those who have reservations.I pointed to the post it with my name and the count next to it and stated Im already on the list? So it seems like there is confusion on how to properly manage walk ins.They received a cancellation of a reservation so we were given an inside table. Ambience is nice, good lighting, big windows, lots of natural fixtures, definitely on trend.We ordered our first round of drinks from their cocktail list, they were okay. And for our second round of drinks when we asked for a off menu cocktail your standard Manhattan and they couldnt accommodate as they stated they do not have a liquor license. The cocktails are extremely watered down as such because they use infused liquor which youll see in the description of the cocktails so basically its watered down alcohol. Not the real deal.The waitress was friendly and attentive although a little too attentive we were taking our time to enjoy each others company, to talk and drink at leisure. It seemed like our waitress was trying to find nice ways to rush us along by checking in frequently asking if we were ready to order the next course when the food was still not finished in front of us.At this point we were two rounds of cocktails in and had ordered a bottle of wine along with appetizers that werent yet finished and who seemed like the store manager came up to us at 740 pm (we had been seated around 610 pm) and told us that we needed to be done by 800 pm because he had another reservation that needed that table.I dont have an issue if they had told us at the beginning to note that our table time was limited and we wouldve taken note of that and wouldve been considerate of that limitation. But to be ambushed essentially 20 min before we supposedly needed to leave was rude and inconsiderate. And of course we immediately felt rushed and couldnt enjoy our dinner at all.We werent those people that ordered one appetizer and lingered around taking up valuable restaurant real estate, as we have already as we had multiple drinks and multiple appetizers and undoubtedly we wouldve continued to order an exceptional number of more drinks and more food.All in all our bill even when rushed out, was already in the 400 dollar range before tip. We all work hard for our money and for us to spend so much and then be rushed out is unacceptable.Its a shame because the establishment is aesthetically pleasing and the food is good. Drinks could be better with actual liquor, but they are decent.But its the service that was truly disappointing. Having worked in food service for many years in college, yes you have reservations that you need to keep but not at the expense of the patrons that are already at your tables. I believe many go out to dinner to experience something new, its not because we cant cook or find a much cheaper option for sustenance but what we want is to experience something delicious, beautiful or both and without good customer service the other good aspects of any dining establishment will fade in the background, such as my experience at Gem Dining. Now all I will think about when I think Gem Dining is they care more about turnaround then customer service.

Went there to check it out. I ordered the surf and turf. Thought steak and shrimp for $20 was a good deal. I got a bowl of house special fried rice with 4 shrimp, a few pieces of steak, and a half cooked egg on top. Well the bread was good, then you find out they charge another $2 for it. The sound system bass was so loud it think the huge staff will loose their hearing in no time.
Really great experience. The dishes we got were really creative and tasted great. I felt the value was good as well as it wasnt insanely expensive compared to upscale dining in LA or the bay area.

Had high expectations given the recommendation from a close friend. I wasnt disappointed. Lively atmosphere, ambience and design I loved. Service was great, everything was well explained and we never needed to ask for anything. The servers were on the ball with replacing cutlery and plates. Oh we ordered the elote with bone marrow(must have), seafood ceviche(recommended), miso clam Chilean sea bass(ok), egg yolk pasta(loved it), coconut ice cream(loved it), Egg custard(ok). All in all definitely recommended to all
Gem dining gives a modern take on formal dining. The ambiance of the restaurant was very inviting, just a tad loud.Food was on the pricey side as expected and some plates were worth more than others. The crab toast was rather lacking in flavor, but the bone marrow elote was delicious. Had a bit of a punch of spice. A minor thing, the elite was more of a grilled corn, not the typical Mexican elote. The seafood seviche was a favorite. Wagyu melted in your mouth and was given with different salts for a tailored taste. We ended up getting the tomahawk steak, which while tasty, was not worth the over $100 price. A lot of the meat was very fatty and overall was simply -okay.Our server (I unfortunately forgot his name, tall half Vietnamese half laos(?) Gentleman was extremely attentive and made great recommendations.A great experience for a special occasion with loved ones, with some great dishes and other lackluster ones as well.

A wonderful and creative take on bò kho and I am not a bò kho fan!Soft shell crabs: 5! The sauce and spices and crabs! Everything just works so well together!Yogurt panna cotta: 5! Light and the meringues were a surprising delightful touch!Mushroom and wagyu beef: 5! A sophisticated and elevated take on thit xào!Bravos to the chef! It’s always getting crowded around dinner time so I highly recommend you should make the reservations few weeks ahead. I mean they also have walk-in option but it will take forever for waiting. The food is the answer for the hype. Yes, i: so yummy. My favourite dish is crab pasta. They also have free baguettes and cajun butter for appetizer. Servers are friendly and helpful. This will be a perfect place for family/ company party
The food is good but they don’t take to go orders over the phone. You must drive there and wait in the parking lot to make an order.I’ve also had to wait for my table when I had a reservation for 20 minutes, manager comes up to me and says he’s giving us complimentary bread for the wait and then charges us.

This place is Nep Cafe during the day and Gem Dining at night. One of the dining managers said that Nep Cafe serves elevated street food and Gem Dining is a fine dining experience. He also mentioned that both eateries share the same chefs. Everything we ordered was good. It was a very solid meal. Definitely plan on coming back during the day to try Nep Cafe.Ordered:-iced tea (lychee): has a strong tea flavor-pcs (infused tequila, passionfruit, orgeat): pretty looking alcoholic layered drink-bread and cajun butter (french loaf, cajun butter): cajun butter is bomb and it pairs well with other dishes as well.-west coast oysters (blood orange granita): oysters were small but fresh and sweet-soft shell crab (singaporean chili sauce, panko): nice and crispy-pate tartlet (Hai Phong pate mousse, brisee pastry, picked cucumber): add -cajun butter for an interesting flavor combo-salted egg yolk crab pasta (jumbo lump crab, salted egg yolk cream, linguini): interesting flavor combination that works well. add cajun butter for a even stronger flavor-seared scallops (cauliflower puree, caviar beurre blanc): cooked perfectly-a5 miyazaki wagyu (striploin, yuzu soy): the cajun dipping salt is a must try-lava tiramisu (espresso, sponge cake, mascarpone): great way to finish the meal
It’s a really nice fine dining restaurant in the middle of little Sai Gon. The service was very good. We were a little late for our reservation, but they still kept our spot. The environment is formally romantic, an ideal spot for a date night. I highly recommend

I moved to OC from NYC. Gem has high end Manhattan level food. Very high level kitchen dishing out very well done food. Flavors leap off the plate. Textures are nuanced. Make the trip if youre from LA/SD/IE. Singaporean soft shells on top of their bread + Cajun butter. Makes you say Yoooo!! Come on the weekends and see the real housewives of Westminster stunt their designer labels.

Super good. Portions are decent sized. Really improves on many traditional dishes! The Brussel sprouts were my favourite.

The food walks the line of familiar and unfamiliar perfectly and delivers both on taste and presentation. Even one of the most simple dishes which was the elote had subtle layers of flavor that were beyond enjoyable. I’m from out of state but I will come back when I have the chance. Thanks to our waitress Jessica (I think, I’m awful with names) for a fun time.

Brussels sprouts, soft shell crab, salted yolk pasta, Tom yum, risotto. I loved my yolk pasta - very creamy with soft noodles. Risotto was spicy on my taste, but my husband loved it. Tim yum was very good. Too bad they didn’t have coconut cocktail that I saw on the pictures here. Another reason to come back. Ube tiramisu and sticky toffee pudding were delicious. We left full but not stuffed.P.S. there are like 4 restaurants under same roof so it took us some time to find the right door )

The beef tongue sisig was so juicy and tender and paired perfectly with sautéed eggplants and bell peppers. The soft shell crab was perfectly fried and mixed with a delicious Singaporean chili sauce👏🏻. The octopus was another favorite because of how tender and fatty it was! Unfortunately the elote and roti weren’t fan favorites because they lacked the same kind of excitement as the other dishes.All in all, I loved trying all these plates and flavors distinct to different Asian regions from Thailand to India to Malaysia. I’ll definitely be back to try more next time!💰Price:$140/meal

Although I personally found it too salty ( I usually cook with 0 salt), I’d definitely come back again.I highly recommend the soft shell crab. It’s juice and savory. The sauce is amazing.We visited on a Sunday with reservation. It was right at the opening time and there’s already a line at the door. The restaurant filled up very quickly. Therefore, a reservation is strongly recommended.

2023-04-09 06:48:15First time dining here and definitely not the last. I wasn’t expecting this type of restaurant in Fountain Valley. First off the customer service by far is excellent! Hard to find that type of service now a days. All the staff were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was very good. The food is exceptionally flavorful as well. The portion size is just right because of the impact of the all the flavors in the food. The only reason why I didn’t give a 5 star is because the food temperature wasn’t as hot as I liked it to be but that’s be very picky on my part. I don’t give 5 stars easily unless a near perfect dining experience. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion from just having a family dinner or date night. I look forward to coming here again in the near future and trying other dishes.

2023-02-11 16:28:38Good service. Food is certainly unique Asian fusion. Had the Tom yum pasta and laksa risotto. Enjoyed both dishes (particularly the sauce of pasta is 👌) manager was also very helpful in helping us select our wine of choice. The wine selection is not the most expansive, but works quite well with their dishesIf you have a patio reservation and are afraid of chilly weather, ask your server to bring some additional heat lamps over. They would be more than happy to oblige 😀

2023-05-14 18:05:21The food is pretty great, customer service is wonderful, but the drinks are not special. Tom Yum pasta is so so good, and I can also go to the restaurant just to order ube lava tiramisu because I think it is the best dessert was made by the restaurant. I will come back to try more dishes.
