Gen Korean BBQ House in San Diego

Excellent food as well as service! I gave 3 stars because I found multiple hairs in the rice paper multiple times.. Very unsanitary but the food tasted great! I have been going here and bringing family and friends here for years. The only issue I had was that one time (out of the many), I found multiple hairs in the food.Other than that, I rank GEN top tier when it comes to KBBQ because of the quality of AYCE menu items, as well as the freshness of the rice paper.

This is the worst Gens ever! Server only showed up twice. 15 mins after we sat down and then last call. Soda was flat. Entire restaurant was super smoky! Way more than usual. When I asked the host about she said oh its always like this. No its not! Of course when we cooked our food no one ever came by to change our grill! No wonder the place looks like this!

I dont know what happened to this place. I used to come here at least once every other week if not weekly but thats stopping now. They changed their menu, cuts of their meats look thinner, side dishes not as flavorful as they used to be, Korean fried chicken looks like chicken nuggets now, noodles dont have flavor anymore. Overall I can tell they tried to make it look like they changed their menu for the better by making more options but in return quality of food is trash now.Service was great.

Oh my gosh!! I thought chain restaurant should have similar food and service quality, but the Gen Korean BBQ in Mira Mesa, San Diego is way too terrible, especially their service. The servers gather together to chat with each other and one girl server even helped another male server braid his hair. It could tell how slow it was on Friday lunch time. They just came to ask few times do you need more food and back to chit chat again. The bulgogi and all spicy meats are very salty and have similar taste. If you close your eye, you won’t be able to tell what kind of meat you are eating. The premium steak looks sad and tastes dry and tough. The rice is cooked with too much water. The side dishes are not good as well. Kimchi and spicy cucumber are both below average, potato salad is on the plain side, but their marinated onion is yummy. Overall, I don’t recommend this place for someone who wanna enjoy good food and service.

My friends and I went on a Wednesday night and they told us it was five minute wait yet we waited 30 mins and they didn’t seat us until we said something and they weren’t even busy. Apparently they have changed their menu and took out some items out. The food quality has decreased, the sides were so tiny and the meat quality was bad. We ordered the brisket and it came frozen, stuck to the plate and I couldn’t take it out. Our server was always rushing even tho they weren’t busy and when I told him about the brisket, he just took it and never asked if I wanted a replacement or anything else. This place has just declined unfortunately cause it was our go to Korean bbq place but I guess I’m not going there anymore.

Horrible service!!!! fooled myself thinking service will be better but 3RD TIME in a row. You need to change staffs now. Had to ask a lot of stuffs several times for meats side dishes and even basic stuffs like sauces and banchan and gave us wrong foods that I did not order. No drinks refilled. Have to look for server because they dont check on you AT ALL! They dont have much side dishes available to think it’s only weekday and by 8 PM they only had kimchi, cucumber, and radish kimchi available. Funny that they added a lot of stuffs on the menu but always “run out”. Run out or they are only too lazy to make it? Lol. Im not surprise this restaurant keeps getting 1 star lately.

Really fun atmosphere for Korean BBQ! I love the lighting and the music they are playing. The food is alright or even good for all you can eat style. Service is a bit slow but its Friday night so its super busy.

Service wasnt good. You always have to look for a server to help you with something. They dont check on you. Some meats were so hard to bite. They didnt have a fan above us, so you will have smoke on your clothes.

It is a nice place for lunch or dinner.Chadol was very thin. It cooked a little differently than usual.The pork belly was OK.It is a big spacious place. Better for a group of people or a small party.It is a little loud (music and customers).I would come back if I wanted KBBQ.

Loved loved loved my experience at this restaurant. Makimo made our visit absolutely unforgettable!!! Most genuine, fun, easygoing, knowledgeable, accommodating and sweet person I have ever met!Food was VERY delicious and a great quality!Definitely will come back soon
