Normally when I go to different GEN BBQ places the service is just Par and the food takes a while to come out. But this branch in Chino Hills the staff are super friendly and caters to your needs in the quickness. Although your limited to 4 meats at a time, they come out fast and you can order again right away. Also the meat is fresh and when cooked correctly it’s super delicious! I highly recommend this location, thank you so much for having us.

This was my first experience of a Korean BBQ and going by the crowd and popularity of the place I have to say it must be good. The service was great although it took them quite some time to get me a fork since I am not very adept at using chopsticks. The quality and quantity of the meat was great but to my mind everything was a bit too sweet but possibly that is how Californians like their food. It was a unique experience but I wouldnt repeat it but for genuine meat lovers there is nothing like this.

Severely disappointed.. been waiting for my pickup order for an hour and have yet to receive it. When I called they said about 30 min to pickup so I ordered so the food would be ready when I needed it. Been waiting almost another solid 30 minutes in the store and have not heard from anyone yet.. and the chair I was sitting in was taken from me for a party of eat in customers to sit. Poor poor service.. will definitely rethink ever coming back to this restaurant again.. buyer beware from the take out orders.. seems like they prefer the customers that cook for themselves..

Disappointing. My family was the 2nd in line at 12:30pm for over 10 minutes and no one even came up to greet us. The staff seemed like they didnt even care. We left before we were sat at the table.Update. Our kids wanted to go back a couple of days later for dinner. The service was better (we were seated in a decent amount of time and our server was helpful), the food was great and our kids loved the experience!

Annice our waitress was not very good at keeping track of food requests. We asked for water 3 times and it came at the very end when we are about to leave. Also she only brought about half of the things we ordered. The chop che was stale. It felt hard. The food just didnt taste as good as other times

This location not as nice, clean or big as the Corona location. The seat cushion was torn. Service started off off, but got better. They were very attentive after awhile, changed our grills regularly and kept asking if we wanted anything else. I woukd visit again.

Wanted a booth. They didnt provide saying they have to give it to clients who are coming late. We asked if they were reserved? They said no, and they cant provide a booth. We came at 2.15pm and asked us to wait 15 minutes although the place was empty. Staff was unfriendly and didnt provide a booth. They are with a very bad attitude. Didnt come begging for food. Its paid to eat. None customer centric management.No free wifi provided and signal inside the bbq for the online menu. Asked us to take a screenshot of the screen. The food was ok.

My husband and I love bringing our family here. The ambiance is nice. It’s all you can eat with a variety of meat selections. The staff is always great and attentive. The quality of food is great. We’ve never had a bad experience here. I would highly recommend this place especially if you are a meat lover!

Party of 4. First order received was not enough meat to feed 2. We continued to order meat but got ultra slow service and micro portions. It’s incredible disappointing and stressful. We are all hungry and it feels like the portions are intentionally small. Will NOT be coming back. Horrible service and staff seemed unconcerned over the situation.

I went to Gen to celebrate a birthday here at Chino Hills and it was the worst experience ever!! To get my grill changed took about 10 min. The meats that were dropped off were the wrong ones and when I went to speak to the manager he did not go check on us or do anything to improve our visit.

Lots of free parking available. Huge place but easily gets packed during lunch and dinner hours. Fixed menu for lunch and dinner. Lunch is $16.99 wirh 27 items. Dinner is $22.99 with 36 items. Ventilation needs to be better. You will smell after eating here.

First time loved it!!! Its a fun experience, amazing decor, nice place to go with friends, family or a date. Alcohol friendly, hope to make it back soon. The food selection is amazing and nice to play roulette with if you want to try something new.

Our server Ben was super on top of it and some of the best service we’ve ever had! He was fast with requests and checked up on us all the time. He’d go above and beyond! Food was also great! Wait wasn’t as long as we assumed (~20 min)

Awesome lunch! It was $16.99 all you can eat of the lunch meats menu. The Top Blade and Short Ribs were delicious. Also recommend the Hawaiian Steak, Teriyaki Pork Chip, and classic thin sliced brisket. The service was excellent our waiter constantly changed our grill top and kept our drinks full. Really enjoyed it and will return.

Wait time was great. Got there before the rush. Food was awesome, if you enjoy cooking it yourself. Favorite is the beef bulgogi. Saw the waiter less and less as is got busier. But they do clean up the empty dishes and replace grill plate very quickly.

Good selection of beef and chicken and pork. The steak is nice and tender, the beef bulgogi has good flavor, the brisket was good but just a little bit fatty. The Cajun shrimp is deliciously seasoned and not spicy at all. There is only one dinner menu as opposed to some other kbbq joints that have 2 or 3 menu choices. Dinner is very well priced, borderline cheaply priced, for the variety and quality of the meats. They also have the sweet and spicy popcorn chicken which was one of my personal favorites, and fried calamari. They offer different beers on tap as well as bottles beer, wine, soju, and sake. Eriq our server was attentive, made suggestions and had a short conversation with us. His partner Lee was very quick to clear away any dirty plates and was also very attentive in getting us extra napkins, condiments, water and more popcorn chicken. The music they play is up to date and the decor is sleek and trendy giving the place a nightclub like feel. My only complaint is that our particular grill did not get quite hot enough. It took a little longer than I like to cook the thick steaks. Other than that it was an enjoyable meal.

LOVE this place!!! My husband and I havent been here since before the pandemic and were so happy its still around. The food is without questions delicious!!!! The only problem is not having a bottomless pit for a stomach to keep eating more!😆 customer service was great from beginning to end. Its apparent that minimal staff on hand is the way many places need to operate but both team members on the floor did a great job! I truly appreciate the good service and of course, amazing food! Maybe we had an off day. There were 5 of us. They sat us at a table with one grill, which meant the grill was pretty crowded. (There was literally one other table occupied.) Ordered unsweetened iced tea and was told the restaurant does not have sweetener of any kind. Though we paid per person, they only allowed a few meats at a time to be ordered. Some things had to be ordered several times because they just didnt bring them. No sauces were offered so we didnt really know what we could get - the salt and pepper (?) in the dish on the table were a hard solidified mass. The meat itself was good, but bland with nothing to season it with. The vegetables were very fresh and good. Not much for our vegetarian friend to eat but it is a BBQ place so I wouldnt knock them for that. When the bill *finally* came (understaffed, I understand but....) we were told they could only take a maximum of 2 cards for the 5 of us. This is 2023 - people pay with cards. When I asked to speak to the manager, they did run all 5 cards. I felt bad for the kid that was our waiter - I feel like the restaurant has some jerky policies and expect their waitstaff to relay them and take the hit. Wont be back - no fault of his, but there are other places and this wasnt an inexpensive dinner.

One of the best all-you-can-eat Korean BBQ around the area. Side dishes are ample and exceptional. The atmosphere is vibrant and upbeat, With its dark lighting theme coupled with blue glows, it feels like dining in a nightclub.Service is friendly and fast. When times are busy, service can be a bit slow. I cant blame them as there are a lot of customers to take care of.

There are two young waiters in particular at Gen that are amazing. They provide amazing service. Last time my husband, myself, and our good friend went to Gen, Chino Hills, the restaurant was very busy. However, these two young waiters pretty much handled the entire restaurant and the service they provided was just stellar. My husband, myself, and a good friend dined at Gen Chino Hills this past Saturday night. I had called ahead and asked what the wait was because in the past they didn’t take reservations for smaller parties, not sure what the policy is currently Anyway, we were quoted about 5 or 10 minutes. We had gone in the early evening, while it was still light out and it was extremely hot last Saturday. There are seats outside, but there isn’t any way I could have sat outside due to my disability and the fact that it was very hot out. We were waiting longer than 10 minutes, which would have been fine if I had a place to sit down. I kindly told the host, or perhaps he was a manager, not sure, that I am disabled and can’t really stand much anymore. He pointed me to a table, that my husband, myself, and our friend could wait at, while waiting to be seated to our actual table. I appreciate little things like this. However, before we even sat down we were shown to the booth that we would be dining at. This was a great start. We had two waiters, I don’t know their names, but they were probably in their twenties. These two waiter’s provided us with excellent service. The grill was changed frequently, which we appreciate so much. The food was excellent. Our experience at Gen Korean BBQ this past Saturday was fantastic. The three or us, my husband, myself, and a good friend that was with us, can’t wait for the opportunity to dine at Gen again! Also, the one in Chino Hills, is one of our favorite locations.

I arrived the restaurant and there was not host. I looked around and ask randomly to some server if I could be sitted in any table. Then somebody directed me to a table. It was in front of the main door and extremely cold, somehow windy. I requested another table politely multiple times from 3 different servers. Half of the restaurant was empty. I waited around 30 mins for them to figure out what to do, I didn’t want to drive another place. It’s like a joke. Service is extremely slow, Restaurant smells bad, air circulation is horrible. Food tastes meh. Equipments were not clean. All my clothes, jacket, everything still smells horrible. This might be the 1st negative comment of mine on google for a restaurant. Bravo

Very dissatisfied… The food was meh. On top of that, the place is very dirty. In my experience it felt as if the AC did not work, and the ventilation was non existent. The wait times just to sit down and eat are ridiculous. By the time you get to sit down, you probably wish you chose to eat somewhere else. Service wasn’t as good as it could’ve been because it is apparent the managers overwork their employees. The servers constantly run around, struggling to serve each table while it seems as if the managers just watch them. With that being said there was one big manager with a button down and a chain, standing around with his earpiece telling all the workers what to do. I was astonished to find out he was the GM, because it seems as if he doesn’t help his workers at all, and just watches them struggle. In disbelief this place has 4.2 stars. I can say there are better Korean bbqs out there.

Their ventilation sucks (pun intended). You enter a haze or smoke that will cling to your clothes. So please note not to wear anything half nice unless you like the smell of cheap greasy meat. Speaking of meat, I know its and ayce and didnt expect much in quality, but this was easily the worst of all the gen locations Ive ever been. Not to mention measly servings of not only the bannchan but every single dish. Whoever owns this location needs to hire more help. There is an obvious lack of servers and help. I feel bad for these workers, they are most definitely being worked to the bones and because of the lack of labor, they are probably managing way more tables than they should. Without a doubt the servers were polite and respectful, but not being able to flag one down through all the smoke and haze when trying to get another extra small serving size does not help. I really sympathize for these workers and they are probably impacted on their tips due to the owner pinching pennies. Its 2022 people, time to pay your workers fair wages. I honestly dont understand how this store has 4.5 stars on Yelp. Maybe they were much better in the past prior to covid, but come on, this is a new low for any Gen kbbq. The brand name used to stand for something.

I was very disappointed to receive the service we did from a location we truly enjoyed. The servers we had were the most inattentive servers we have ever experienced; asked 3 times to get a drink that still was never brought, requested rice papers for 3 and got half of 1 for all, our plates were tossed at us still missing half our order.Top it off; when requesting a drink 3 times, the server said yes, went to buss the table next to us, and chatted away with his assistant server in front of us still never bringing my guest a drink x 3.We can’t hold you guys accountable to customer satisfaction for celebrations anymore. Theyve gone downhill quickly since they opened back up for dine in. Ive come to this location for years and the customer service is horrible now. Expect extremely long wait times to be brought meat (20+ minutes even when its not busy) and for your waiters to not bring things you ask for period. The last time my party came in we had to ask for items 3-4 times before we would get them. Drink refills, meat, salt, napkins, its like they dont want to give them to you.Today we went in to be seated today with nobody behind us. It did not seem busy. The hostess was on the phone when we came in and didnt acknowledge us. She was on the phone for five minutes flipping through a book. When she was off the phone, we asked her about the sign saying they were out of certain things so we asked about it and the hostess had no idea what we were talking about. She walked off to ask the kitchen but just stood and talked to someone there for a few minutes, came back, and told us we needed to move so she could help the people behind us because they were there first. She didnt answer our question and just had us seated. We watched the in server in our area go to every table but ours for ten minutes before we decided to get up and leave. Nobody came to take our drink orders, give us utensils, or anything. On our way out we heard other people waiting saying they shouldve went to a different Gen location. Very disappointing as this location is 10 minutes from my house and the other is 30 minutes away but I will not be coming back here.

Overall, a pretty bad experience. I’ve had Gen in Alhambra many times before, and many other KBBQ all over the world.Wait was about 30 mins on a Sunday lunch. First thing you see when you walk in is a notice about being short staffed. I don’t blame any of the waiters there but half of my eating experience was just waiting. Ordering took 15 min, sauces and banchan weren’t served until after the meat came and I had to ask for them. Getting the bill took another 20 and they held on my card for another ten minutes.As for the food, pretty low quality for $27 a person. Nothing really to write home about. Try out some jowl meat if you haven’t before

Our first time here. What a disappointment. And maybe it was due to our horible unfriendly server Giselle. Even after we informed her it was our first time there (last) she was not helpful at all. We asked for a menu and which she directed us to scan the code. We added again nicely if we can still get a menu, she told us she would try to find one. Then there was a leaking coming from the top it’s like grease. So we asked to be seated at a different table. Then another server brought the grill top but didn’t turn on the grill. Another server came to turn on the grill and the fire sparked and almost blew my face. That was scary 😦 then after that the food came and the service was smooth until we asked for more kimchi. Another server brought it in the bowl and overflowing and leaking. Placed it on the table. I don’t know whether it was an insult or pure laziness so we won’t ask again. Then we were given plastic forks. I saw another table with silverware. So what’s the difference? We’re black maybe. I don’t want to use that word but what can I do. The treatment wasn’t good. A really terrible restaurant that has no idea how these high ratings come about. When we arrived here at noon today, we found that there were about three or four cars parked sporadically at the gate. And then after we entered the restaurant, there was no receptionist at the front desk, but we could understand that there must be not enough people, so the receptionist went to help others. After waiting for about three to five minutes, a waiter came slowly, asked how many of us there were, asked us to wait, and turned away. There was another long wait, and as I looked around, I realized that, as I had guessed, there were not many guests. There are only tables in twos and threes. However, some of the tables still have food scraps from previous guests, but apparently, no one is cleaning them (weve been standing here for about six or seven minutes). After waiting another five minutes or so, we lost all patience and decided to leave. Maybe the food is delicious, maybe its three Michelin stars, but the service is the other extreme. By contrast, the one at the diamond square in Rowland heights is completely different.

Under the pretense of covid, I think Gen did a great job of trying to reproduce an outside setting that fits represents them and I think they did a good job. Now was it the best experience Ive ever had, oh no it was the worst way to have korean BBQ. Grills were set way to high on grills that were very uneven to cook on so parts of the meat were burned while some parts were still somewhat raw. Meet was also halfway cooked by the time it hits your grill so it was interesting to order food. They insisted we order as much as the grill can hold which isnt much so that we had a decent amount of food till our next order. As it was our first time out since covid, we were a bit hesitant with the tents they seat you at since it seem a bit enclosed, but to our relief there is a decent amount of air flow. That being said I did feel like we were a bit close to one table no way 6 feet apart. I could kitterally tap the guys shoulder from where I sat. I kept trying to give this location a chance! This was my 3rd time here!! I do not understand why management either cuts the floor or understaff. We literally would ask for something and have to WAIT 10-15 min for it (fork extra napkins water) The walls are always dirty in the small booths i bought wipes bevause the table is alwaya sticky the window seals are filled with dust....just disgusting they had one waiter on 5 tables! Then the power went of yes in the middle of our dinner just shuts off....they apologized for the inconvenience and that was all....so i waited to see if they would comp a drink offer dessert on the house NOTHING!!!! So i had to ask the manager she said yes but had to say We had no control over the lights going off...had to leave her two cents....so that will be my LAST time there!!!!

Love Gen. Nothing but great things to say. Great service, especially Kyle he works lunch time and is a great server working his way through college. Portions are good sized and many different tastes to try. You can also do half orders so you can try everything. Best KBBQ prices around.

My server was Daniel Galan. Was greeted with a smile. He recommended items from the menu and they were great! Everytime I asked for items, they were brought over right away. Service was amazing! Cleared plates were picked up right away and drinks refilled instantly.

I dont know why people are so negative they are short staffed cant be helped in the times we are in and do your research before showing up or talk to people they will tell you that you have to cook yourself i was there 3 months back with 2 friends of mine and had an amazing experience 35 min wait but it was packed so not surprised great atmosphere will be back in a few weeks with more friends for sure keep up the amazing work

I am sorry to say that Ive been wanting to try this place for so long but ended up so disappointed. Meat quality was questionable. Forget about pinkish meat, they were dark brown, no sign of freshness. The flavor of the marinated ones were way too sweet. Its almost as if they were covering the quality with tons of sugar. The grill had to be changed every time we cooked a different meal because it would burned up too fast. The steamed egg was a sad tinny tin foil with a loose cover that it took forever to cook (they bring it to you raw and its supposed to cook on the grill but since they had to change the grill so often, we never got to eat it). Service was not too bad but we did have to ask for sesame oil, soy bean paste and napkins more than once before they were brought to us. I hope they improve; otherwise Wang Cho will continue to be our choice for Korean BBQ in the area.

Went here on a weekday for dinner and there was plenty of free parking . For our first orders they gave pretty small portions of food, mind you we all came from work and was starving . It did take a bit to get our next orders to the table . I think also it was around dinner time, and all the other diners all came the same time . Our waiter Jae was pretty awesome, he was able to deliver what we requested . A few things to maybe work on would be the floor its super slippery. I think its from the oil drippings when they change grills . Second when you have a party of 8 or more please increase the meats and side dishes that your bring out to the table . So we dont have to keep chasing the waiters down . We had to keep asking for more rice paper, radish, kimchi ect . kinda felt bad for Jae . Since every time he passed by we called him back for a refill. Other than that I think of all the Gen locations I will frequent the most .

Not this location in particular but I am leaving this review here because it was the last one I visited.Steamed egg is no longer offered at any Gen locations, regardless of lunch or dinner. When was the last time you went to a Korean BBQ house that didnt have steamed eggs?The quality of the meats is subpar at best, and the more you order the more the quality seems to decline.The side dishes are nothing to be excited about.Considering the price and the guaranteed 1-hour wait time for dinner service, I would have to say I wouldnt choose Gen unless it is the only korean BBQ option near me.

This is by far the best Korean BBQ I have been to. The cow tongue, brisket, steak, shrimp and basically anything is good. The food and staff are great, only negative is can get very busy, so service can be a little delayed, but that is because they have good food.

Out of all Korean BBQ places this is the best one Ive been to. Friendliest staff Ive ever had at any restaurant Ive been to. Theyre on top of it there. I didnt even have to ask for refills they would come by every couple minutes and tend to their guests.

Fast and great service for all you can eat. Went by 5 for dinner - $20.99 per person. Youre able to order 4 meats at a time. They provide simple side dishes - kimchi, pickled radish, potato salad. Their pork cheek is our favorite. Garlic pork belly is well seasoned but a little salty. Marinated short rib (galbi) comes with 2 slices an order. Their dengjang jjigae (vegetable bean paste soup) takes about 10 minutes to come out and was under seasoned.We had Edmond as our server and he was amazing. Very professional and provided excellent customer service.

All you can eat korean bbq within a 2 hour limit. $16 per person for lunch and $21 per person for dinner. Lunch menu has 28 items to choose from while dinner has 37. Even though they only let you order 4 small servings, the service is super quick and reliable that it doesnt matter much. They also change out your grill constantly so that the residue doesnt smoke and burn in your face. The food is great for the price point with certain items being far superior than others (we particularly liked the hawaiian steak). The korean bbq staples are all good too albeit quite fatty (expected and easily removed). Overall, Gen has a really nice all-you-can-eat korean bbq format with excellent service. Its not outstanding, but it is above average. The only complaint I have is that the floor is super slippery because of oil splatters from the grills. But thats kinda to be expected when you have a full house grilling at the same time.
