Just left gen and will not be back. As frequent customers they really dropped the ball tonight. I asked the front manager with glasses and pony tail to tell my server we were celebrating a birthday and they forgot. Not to mention the slow service tonight. I had to constantly flag server down when we need a grill change. When we ordered something it was forgotten. What was going on tonight it was NOT that busy! That sucks because we loved gen. As far as the food apparently server told us they got a new distributor so their rice paper is garbage now and the quality of the brisket was terrible. We spent $150 out the door and STILL TIPPED. For a terrible experience!

This used to be a fun/decent place for KBBQ - like a Yard House equivalent - but the quality has definitely dropped. Ordered delivery because I do not have access to KBBQ in my neighborhood.I asked for cucumber and potato salad - and was given kimchi, of all things (?!) and the meats were overcooked to hell. Go to one of the mom and pop places in Cerritos instead if you can help it, Gen clearly doesn’t want business.

Although pretty expensive, this is one of the best places to get Korean bbq. The meat is actually really great quality and the service is really good. The place can get really packed so get there earlier than expected. This was a great experience and is worth it.

My daughter asked for a lunch date, we arrived at 1:45 and after literally a couple minutes wait were seated. All good there. The waiter shows up after about 10 minutes, okay... Place isnt crowded and I cant say what he was doing beforehand as I didnt know who the server was. We order our beverages and food. He puts it into the iPad and then goes to help others. He brings the sauces, rice and no salad. I noticed he was starting to serve others who came in after we did. Catching his attention as he walked by, we asked for a bowl of brisket sauce. He said he could top off our sauce tray. He proceeded to give the table over a bowl of sauce. At this point weve been there over 25 minutes. Someone else brings the food out, guess what... The grill isnt lit. Other people that arrived after us and are seated are already cooking and enjoying their food. I go ask the manager if I could borrow the lighter wand to light our grill (I know I cant) she says shell go tell the waiter (instead of just doing it herself). They go track him down, he walks by and Im not exaggerating another 4 to 5 times bringing stuff to the other tables, another 10 minutes had gone by and finally Im like enough... So I ask for the check for the soda my daughter drank and he says with an attitude what about the food I said how were we supposed to cook it when you never turned the grill on? He says I thought it was on... I said, at this point were no longer interested in eating here. I speak to the manager and offer again to pay for the drink and she looked annoyed but said its okay. We left... And yes were black. The only blacks in the restaurant.

Have been going to this location for many years and today I have had the worst experience. Server only came by three times and we were not able to order for over 20-30 minutes. The second order we made took another 20 minutes to come out. Spoke to Josh (manager on shift) and while he was helpful in hearing me out I am still disappointed. I am going to have to reconsider returning to this location.

I tried to make a reservation for a party of 15 and was told we needed to make a deposit to hold the table. No biggie. Except they wouldn’t take a card over the phone or online. We live two hours away and so I wasn’t able to go down there prior to our celebration day to make the deposit in person. We tried to get a manager on the phone and was refused repeatedly. Finally they said they would email us the credit card form for the deposit. 24 hours went by and it never arrived. We tried calling the restaurant again to get the form emailed and ensure our reservation, but after an hour of being left on hold, we hung up and gave up. Made our reservation deposit free at a different korean bbq establishment without incident. They didn’t want our business and was rude about it. I wish I had the chance to give them a better review.

Worst Experience ever at GEN ! Use to be our favorite spot but now on a Monday afternoon you can’t get something simple like the appetizers . Waited over 32 minutes to get Rice & Appetizers. When we finally got the Rice it was COLD. In an hour we only got two rounds of meat. We had to keep repeatedly ask them for refills and another order of food . Soo disappointing we’ve been coming here for years .

I really enjoy my visit here, its my go to place for Korean BBQ. They have a great selection of variety of meats on both the lunch & dinner menu.For meats, our favorites are the beef belly, brisket, the marinated short rib, the Hawaiian steak and beef bulgogi. Also ask for the marinated brisket, its not on the menu but ask your server for it because its really good! For appetizer we order the Sweet & Spicy Chicken popcorn. Customer service here is good, Its just always busy so I understand they try to do their best to serve and attend your table. Overall this place is clean and meats are presented nicely and the sides are good! Make sure you ask for extra rice paper and potato salad, our personal favorites. I enjoy my visit here every time!

I ended up trying this place out last minute since my favorite spot was closed this afternoon. Overall everything was good but the service was kind of slow, the meats were okay and they dont give you enough sides for four people. I honestly cant complain since it was $20 per person.

My family was visiting from Italy and they were very excited to go to a Korean BBQ. We were at Santa Monica and we checked out (google) the BBQs in Cerritos (where i live) this has very high rating so we decided to go here. We drove for about 45 min from Santa Monica and reached at about 830 pm last Friday and were very excited. I went to the reception to get a table, there was a bit of a chaos as they sell ice cream at the counter and some families were buying ice cream for their kids. I waited and then asked for a table for 3. The girl at the counter looked around and picked up 3 serving plates and asked me to follow her to the table (which was on the window table on the right side behind the counter). At this moment 3 to 4 more customers came in and were waiting for table. At this moment Ryan (I got his name later) the manager came in and stopped the lady from allocating me the table and she didnt tell me anything at that moment. Some other customers started talking to her and were give tables. I got a bit confused and waited for her to seat me as was planned. When she didnt, I asked her what was going on and she said that Ryan the manager (a smart looking young man wearing a light grey CK branded shirt that day) asked her not to give the table and has asked her to give me a table at the other location (few meters away) and not this. Initially I didnt react as I didnt understand what was happening and then I saw that people were continuing to be seated at this location. Then I realized that it was a some kind of discrimination towards me being brown & was not allocated a table and I asked the lady to speak to Ryan and I protested for his approach and then he gave me a seat at the corner with lot of unused furniture around. I sat there and didnt like the location.I just want to convey to the management dont profile customers by skin color and decide on allocating seats. This is not fair. The lady at the counter was professional but Ryan the manager is not.

Used to come here since 2013 when they had just opened. Brought many people here. Used to love love this place. Even at the time it costs more than any other kbbq around in the area. Now, the service is so TERRIBLE. I never would imagine how the service at this place would go down so bad. At first, I understand how busy it gets. Gave them the benefit of the doubt as I was a server myself. Every time I come down now, it’s just been very terrible. Either the server forget to check up on us, forget to bring the ban Chan, you’ll need to ask for sauces or scissors 5X for it to get there. Like, wow. Customer service at this place is dead. I was there 2 weeks ago. And that would the last time. Never again.

Took family on my daughters Birthday and we were advise that kitchen was slow but we didnt expected for service to be extremely slow with forgetful waiters, my daughter asked for a lemon and she didnt received it until the 5th time she asked (20 minutes later) this happened to almost all our request for more food portions. Food is good but portions are not fulfilling. Portions should be served with a large amount instead of a small size to prevent the need to keep requesting more. The younger generation of workers need training in customer service, listening skills, hospitality, and communication with customers.

This was my first time at this location, and I loved it. My son is always talking about how good the food is here, and he is not wrong. The food was delicious. Go to any other Gen or KBBQ in general. The manager ignored our request to have the heaters turned on while seated outside, the waitress tried her best but couldn’t get to everyone in a respectable timeframe, some of the food was frozen solid (you can see the ice hanging off the radish paper in the photo), the salad had no dressing, and we had to change our own grill. Unsatisfactory performance all around.

If you are planning to go to the Cerritos location you will find that during the summer it gets very HOT even though I was advised by one of the assistant managers that they did have air conditioning I have a hard time believing that. Felt bad for the employees there sweating up a storm!! I get it they have the grills goin however it was not a good experience as it felt as if it was over 100 degrees, we asked for water it tasted like tap water asked for beer it was HOT.Never going back during the summer not sure if is because we were at the old building but I no for sure I have been at the new building a couple of weeks ago and had to wear my sweater because it was to cold.

First time to this very busy place. 2 hour limit to dine. Food was good and fun to cook. A lot of options to choose from. You literally have to put the raw meat on the hot “car hub” looking grill. I Just didn’t like all the smoke everyone creates when cooking.

I am giving this place one star, not because of the food or the service, but because of the management. I recently came to this establishment, and there were a lot of people waiting but the hosts quoted us thirty minutes. We received the second text saying our table was ready. We checked in with the hosts and she basically told us that we needed to wait longer because we wanted inside seating. Which does not make sense, why would they text me my table was ready if it wasn’t? Also, they give up your table if you are not there within 5 minutes. As we waited outside, there was a group of men outside who were talking to the manager, Raul. The manager Raul, quoted them fifteen minutes but the group of men was persistent and they paid the manager to get in earlier. They didn’t even wait five minutes. A few minutes passed and a Tik Tok “influencer” came to this restaurant and Raul was glorifying him. Mind you, they have a party of about seven people. Of course, no wait time. This is when it started to bother me because we had been waiting for twenty minutes after we had received our text message saying our table was ready. As we waited, more and more people were called. One of the hosts was about to seat a group of people who had just arrived and I made a comment. Then he asked me, what my name was. So, I told him my name and it turns out, I was not even on the waiting list!!! This was extremely upsetting; how unprofessional could this restaurant be?! I knew I should have left but we were hungry. As time passed, the same manager, Raul went around all the tables asking how they were. Except for our table, he passed by our table without even acknowledging us. He asked the table next to us, across from us and basically all the surrounding tables. The service was great, this place has great employees. The food of course was amazing. The problem here is management! When I paid my check, Raul took the bill. For some reason, he took around ten minutes and I decided to go up to the front. I decided to talk to him, I told him everything that happened, and just like the bad manager he is, he denied everything. His response for me waiting over an hour was basically because I had a party of two and it was easier to sit a party of six. Which to me makes no sense. Wouldn’t it be easier to sit a party of two people? Raul, denied that he got paid by the group of men. He denied he let the influencer in without any wait time. He denied that he avoided our table, his response was I only check on tables who have “wondering eyes”. Honestly, he was super unprofessional, he needs more training. I would recommend going to other Gen Korean BBQs, there’s one in Alhambra or Glendale. Please avoid this restaurant. Raul made me feel very unwelcome.

3.5 the food was good 5 stars! But the service- is where the 3 stars got its over all . The drinks just too too long - and it was water and 1 tea. And then napkins needed more than just one. Took too long- then to pay our bill- just take it and walk it up to pay the woman at the front. But the food, the green salad was wonderful with the meats and chicken we ate. Alright, I really dont think this place deserves a 5 rating but our server Joseph saved the day for us. We went in with a group of 9 after waiting about an hour. We were given a table made for 8 and it only had one grill. After discussing this complaint with the manager she kept insisting that an extra chair would be good enough. Our issue was we couldnt cook enough food fast enough to feed 9 people using only 1 grill due to the average time it takes to even get your order of meats. Well after being told it would be another hour to wait for a two grill table which should have been giving to us in the first place we were about to leave. Here is when Joseph stepped in and convinced us that he will take good care of us. Ive never seen a waiter work so hard. Everything that we requested came with god like speed! He actually made it possible to feed 9 people with 1 grill! An hour later we were fat and happy and my expectations for table service will forever be changed. If you are reading this Joseph, I just want to thank you again and wish you a happy New Year! You should have been the manager.

Very helpful server!! She was amazing.!The lady at the front wasn’t as friendly and we had to ask 3 times for a booster seat for my son. Our server ended up grabbing it.Food, it’s not the same. The brisket was like eating sand. They also accidentally gave us an extra plate of it and we couldn’t finish it. The texture was making us sick. We think it was just shaved too thin. We also were told there was no rice paper… which is my husbands favorite part. As we walked out, we seen everyone with rice paper. 🙃The place was very clean, very busy, staff was quick. But there was definitely things that could have been a little better. For sure our brisket was just so bad. I also overheard a women walking to her car that mentioned the texture of it as well. Maybe just a bad day for them.

Went here with coworkers and my wife. Our server Joseph was waiting 16 tables at once and did a superb job. We would make our order or ask for something and while Im eating or talking I would feel a breeze and things would just appear on the table. At first the service wasnt good, the servers were slow the food took forever to get there the service was bad.. but then I asked for the manager and i expressed to him about our service and that it was unacceptable. He was very apologetic and he asked to fix it I almost left the restaurant and I decided to give a chance we got seated right away inside and they really made up for it. The food was amazing. The service started great but clearly as they got busier, it began to lag. Had to order the same meat like 3 times because it was forgotten. The staff was still nice and as helpful as they could be. We ordered steak, shrimp, calamari, chicken and brisket. Everything was super tasty. Natalia is an incompetent host upon reception. If you see Natalia while you’re getting checked in asked for someone else because she cannot do her job. She will not ask for your number and that is a vital piece of information to get checked in/seated. Our wait went from 15 minutes to an hour because of her incompetence. Went there to try out a Korean BBQ AYCE spot and it didnt disappoint. I only ate beef, chicken, veggies, and seafood and the varieties they offered were good. Price is reasonable and the 2 hour limit is more than enough to satisfy any carnivore. The garlic chicken and thinly sliced beef along with the condiments like Kimchi were memorable...the only negative was that we kept repeatedly turning the gas up and the staff kept turning it down, possibly because unlike another KBBQ joint I went to, Gen doesnt have exhaust fans for the tables so our higher heat grilling may have been too fast or smoky for the scene...get there early because at least the Sunday we went got busy pretty fast...

Over the last years this place has let itself go. I had given this place 5 stars before because they where truly amazing but now its not even worth going.I came in today with my family and all the meat was frozen! I get it that they try to plate the meat and just put plates full in the freezer ahead of time but it had freezer burns and it didnt look fresh. I will no longer be coming here again.

This place is crazy busy but it’s not that good. My favorite is beef bulogi, but it’s too salty. The broth is not as good compared to the other K-BBQ places. The QR menu could not be used when we were there which was a bit inconvenient. However our server RJ was super nice and accommodating, helped us out. Overall, still a great place for family dinner.

He loudly scolded a male waiter why havent you cleaned the tables?! in a very rude tone!! Thats very disgusting behavior. No one should talk to their employees that way! This place is amazingly good. The meats are high quality and the prices are not that high for what you get. I love getting their premium steak, Hawaiian Chicken, Hawaiian Steak, and their Beef Bulgogi. I also love their potato salad, but the servings are too small so you always have to ask for more.I would recommend that if you decide to give it a try, go for their early/late lunch. Not dinner. It gets insanely packed for dinner and parking becomes a big issue (there are other great restaurants in the same shopping center). Plus, the prices per person are under $22 if you go for lunch on a holiday or the weekend. They are cheaper if you go for lunch during the week (but who can eat that much during the week). Dinner prices are under $30 per person (no drinks included). So, if you are not a big eater then I wouldnt recommend it for you. If you feel adventurous, try the Hakutsuru Superior Ginjo Sake (smooth and no strong after taste).Remember to tip your server generously because they really have to work hard to make you happy and ensure you get the food you request. The only reason why I give them a four star vs. a five star is because the quality of the premium steak has gone down. We were given a frozen steak which took a while to cook and was dry by the time it finally cooked. Our grill wasn’t changed during our visit either so the meat got stuck a couple of times too.

I had to wait 50 minutes to get it because they messed it up on the 30 minute mark; where the order should have been done and they gave me another 20 minutes in total a 50 minute wait. While waiting, a manager named Raul was yelling at a host and waitress in front of everyone. He had no filter and was continuously swearing at them and it was impossible to ignore the scene. I won’t go back only because of how restrictive it is. Make sure to read all their rules. First of all, everyone gets charged when seated, regardless if you eat or not or if you’re a vegetarian or not. You have to measure your kid to make sure you know if they’ll be charged. Kids under 40 inches eat free. How would they know?! They won’t split checks, and you can’t take home left overs, regardless if you cooked it or not. And if you do have left overs, they charge you an additional 5 bucks a plate of leftovers! So you won’t let me take me extra food home, and you’re going to charge me for leaving it?! The hell with this place.

This place is a great value if you come hungry (or get hungry) especially after a 2 hour long wait on a Friday night to get seated. The sides are not innovative for Korean cuisine but you’re also probably not going there for them anyway. The meat selections are bountiful and by and large the staff is attentive despite the number of requests they must get for each table (3 meats, napkins, new grill, more water, and on and on). All the meat is quality, flavorful, and the portions are appropriate and not in any way stingy. I enjoy my experience with minor caveats - the inside is packed/therefore smoky - they definitely need to expand to upstairs as the demand is fully there to support it - and intrinsically linked, the wait times are wow. Be prepared to wait, but also rewarded if you can make it without fainting beforehand.

He didnt keep us waiting long, remembered every single thing we asked for, made suggestions on different meats and we enjoyed every single one of them. My whole family was just in awe of him. And no we couldnt go in our car they have a already stopped the message alreat has we were to seated next so if were not there we lose our spot. Within the extra hour I asked a couple of times when we were next. They said soon. Okay I just wanted to because of my tired mother and baby. Were also told we would be seated soon so we can step inside. We waited 5mins inside when a gentleman said we had to go outside we were confused and told him the hostess said for our party to be inside. He said no and to go outside. Not saying sorry but go outside. Okay we went outside, were waiting and see a party of 6 very young adults arrive and a few of them go to place there party, the other half we see seat themselves at a table. If you have gone to kbbq you know that isnt how it work. If the possible chance they were next to seated(through our party have been on stand-by for 40mins) they just dont get seated that fast. I explain to hostess what i saw and she said it was weird because again not how it works. She asks for names for that party at the table to see if they were on the list. It didnt appear. I explain further how this was unfair to the other stand-by parties who were next and she was nice to get to the bottom of it. Then I see the same gentleman who was rude eailer hes the manager.( context I work as a member of management in my company, I can tell the face of a person just done with a person and the shift). He proceeds to look me up and down with a dirty look, and a face of just annoyed and said in a rude tone of voice that he checked them in. That was clearly a lie because he wasnt in the front helping to seat people. With that he walked away. I felt so offended by the manager. After 2 hour wait we were seated. The staff that was helping us even agree that the manger was acting like an jerk. And with that I rate it like this because the manger was the only thing that made this experience bad. So I took off 3 stars. Never taking my family there again after that manager.

Treated my friends out for a birthday. We had a small grill with a little flame it took us forever to heat up the food for a party of 6, got jammed in a booth due to the place being packed; waited two hours for a bad experience. Sept 21. Please know this review is not an evaluation on the quality of food but the lack of service.Seated 10min or less after arriving which isnt a problem, it was just as the hostess said. That was the last thing that went well here. Once seated it was 17min before we got our drinks, our waiter was running around (literally) twirling through tables, ducking coworkers, sliding past tables, shaking and sweating. No other server was doing what he was, even though he was moving and running he accomplished nothing. I had plenty of time to watch other tables and the service was pretty good. Not 1 morsel if food passed my lips but other tables had 2 or 3 pans brought out. After 45min+ our food was finally cooking, there was still no refills on drinks. The waiter was coming over asking what was needed and then its like he went home after asking. Once he came to the table with nothing after just asking what was needed, he was looking on the floor under tables and apologizing. A man dressed as management had to hold the waiters hand and remove him from a simple task of replacing the mini propane tank because his hands were shaking, he just couldnt function. Was at this place for 2hrs 30min and contemplated going to In and Out after leaving. Couldnt even get rice. Paid, didnt tip couldnt bring myself to do it and left. I wouldnt spend your money here.

I know and understand that restaurants are just opening up in a full capacity but when you call and they say 40 minute wait and no reservations you are good with it. However when you get to the restuarant the 40 minutes becomes a 2hr wait and you start noticing that if the staff knows you guess what you get to the front of the line. They do not go on the order you arrive but on the size of your party. Once you are sitted it takes them a bit to serve you and you have to ask for the food 2 or even 3 times. There can also be some pretty clumsy and forgetful staff. Im writing this during COVID-19. The food and drinks are amazing! The outdoor seating is beautiful and cozy. I dropped a star because our chairs werent cleaned off, they had food on them. Also, they were very clearly understaffed. The waiters were literally running by. We ended leaving after one round of food. I ran out of rice and my drink, I asked on 3 occasions for more and did not get them until I was about to leave. As for meats we asked for a second round of all the meats we ordered and we only received a second round of one of them. Up until the point we left we never got another round of the other two. Not sure about the indoor dining. And whoever the lady was serving the meat at 1pm 9/29/20, she SPILLED HOT OIL ON MY WIFES LEG. My wife asked for more napkins to clean the oil and the lady barely apologized with a weak sorry. She went inside to the restroom to clean up and asked one of the employees if they had more napkins or towels to clean the spilled oil and they didnt even remark about the hot oil that was spilled on her leg. They said towels are in the restroom. I shouldve just walked away without paying. Terrible experience. Floor manager and host need to be replaced or trained. Waited longer than I was supposed to because I got skipped. Then after finally being sat did not get greeted for a while. Then after finally taking our order it took so long to even get our drinks that we got frustrated and ended up leaving after a total of over 2 hours.

DO NOT COME HERE! We waited 2.5 hrs to get a table even though they told us 1 hr. You make two lines after waiting to get in. They have friends coming in without waiting and sit them down in front of you. We waited almost 30 min for water and cokes. BUT when we asked for our drinks they tell us they ran out of coke so if we can wait 20 min. Well we waited almost an hour for drinks. You have to literally bug and annoy the waiters so they can bring more meat out. You are better off going to Beverly Hills or West Hollywood for better service. They are very disorganized. I do not recommend anyone to come and waste 2 hours of their time here.

Went there on 3/20 on a sunday at 10am with 20 people. Our server was ozzy. He was great. He made sure we got our meats and kept coming to refill our drinks and sauces
