If you love K-BBQ and love being rushed to get out so the next group of patrons can take your table you have found the place!Things to note before stepping in here:1-your entire party will need to be with your group. You will not be seated even if someone in your party is using their restroom.2-you have about 45 - 60 mins to scarf your meal before they shut your grill off.3-staff takes there time to come by to take your next order. So we found ourselves waiting to place our order quit a bit.4-the meats are well seasoned.Over all dining experience solid 2.

As someone who is come to gen for multiple birthdays and dates just know that this place is gone so downhill its not even funny I used to love coming here because the food was amazing but they switched the menu and got rid of a lot of good things and changed the way that a lot of things were cooked the rice look like pudding it was so mushy the meats were all different and the rice cakes were hard as a rock I will not be coming back to this location. I got so sick after eating this food and the service was horrible. Ive never not left a tip, but today was a first and we made an initial order with all of the things that we like, and only one thing was brought to us. She forgot to bring everything else we didnt receive the rest of our order until we continuously asked for it and it took about 30 minutes. Overall worst experience at a restaurant and I cant believe that I spent my money coming here.

Very nice restaurant, well kept and clean. Service was absolutely amazing, greater as soon as we walked in and wait wasn’t long at all. As we ordered they checked in on us periodically so we could get more meats, sides and drinks. I highly recommend the adult juice box’s if your 21 and older. The experience was fun and entertaining being able to cook your own food. Will be back soon!

Food was sub-standard; tables, counters, and chairs were badly worn and unclean. The place was loud and obnoxious.My girlfriend joined me, but didnt eat. She only wanted to keep me company.Then came the bill...They charged me for two?!!!More than $71.00?!!!When we called the owner over she very rudely told us there was a sign at the front desk saying all people seated will ne charged.This was interesting because of the way they escorted you in, you had no way of seeing the sign.Then comes the kicker....They wont let you take any food you dont eat home!!!And, to top it off, they charge you for all the food you didnt eat while seated!!!Now Im home with horrible diarrhoea.When my girlfriend walked past the kitchen she saw it was scarily unclean.Be forewarned. This place is disgusting on all levels.

The place is nice because they opened the shop so the smoke is really not getting stuck inside the store. Do still expect that when eating in this kind of restaurants you will come out smelling like a grill. Otherwise, the food and service is okay. It is a usual place to have unlimited kbbq so dont expect much but it is more affordable than others and it is in a nice location.

Me and my g/f stopped by this afternoon for lunch, we were seated without a wait and were quickly greeted by our server and got our drinks ordered, I got water and she ordered strawberry lemonade and was told refills were not free (no problem Im already paying $25+ per plate) the price of 20$ on Google is absolutely incorrect, conveniently.We ordered the all you can eat meat, we were immediately greeted with dirty utensils (see photos). Told the server and he took care of it, was brought shrimp we never ordered, server took care of it again.After cooking several portions they swapped out our grill with a new dirty grill (see photos), server apologized and took care of it again.To top this all off Im watching another server fill containers of sauce and putting lids on them, she drops 4 or 5 on the floor, looks around picks them up and starts putting them over containers. Its kinda gross no? On top of dirty utensils and grills it rubbed me the wrong way with this place.So, for $25+ a plate with food I ultimately cook myself, the 2 stars are for me.Clean your restaurant up and stop price gouging customers with sub-standard food. Nobody wants to pay $75+ for anything remotely like that. The broken dishes my utensils were served on is a nice touch too. You get what you pay for right?

I went here for my birthday dinner, might not come again. The meat vendor for this restaurant has changed, changing almost everything (The KFC is laughably pathetic now). Almost nothing was as good as it usually is, nothing was an improvement either. Please consider not going if you really enjoyed this place a year ago. Our server Arvyn was really nice though!

This place has 30 options for their Regular option which is more than I’m used to getting. There wasn’t a higher tier option but with the amount of choices I had, I don’t feel like one was necessary. The list includes seafood options of shrimp and octopus which I usually see on other restaurants top tier option.Staff was attentive and friendly.I liked that they had a grill case to carry the hot grill they removed to protect customers when walking about but at the same time some seemed a little lax with how they handled them.Did have an issue splitting check in two

This was a fun experience. Each table has a gas grill built right into the table top and you order different meats off the menu then the waiter brings them out raw and you grill it yourself. I liked the pork cheeks, my mom thought the beef bulgogi was the best, my brother voted for the Hawaiian pork belly, and everyone liked the fried chicken.The service was excellent. Even with a full house our waiter was very attentive and kept bringing out new dishes for us to try.

Love Korean BBQ. My husband used to manage one years ago. Unfortunately, this wasnt a good experience. Service was slow & he kept forgetting things we asked for. We sat there with the meats we ordered with no utensils. I had also asked for a booster seat for my son. Ended up getting up and getting tongs, forks & booster seat on my own. They also charged full price for our 8 yr old.

A total SCAM!!! They are NOT selling Korean food. This food is in a category of its own, not in a good way! We ordered Korean Fried Chicken and they brought out the lowest quality frozen popcorn chicken I have ever seen. It was a total joke and embarrassment. Also, the new owners clearly hired their incompetent family members who have no business working customer facing. One of the girls spilled an entire glass of water on a customer, did not apologize, and proceeded to ask the staff member next to her to clean it up. Please do not come here and pray for the staff members that worked prior to the new management.

My first ever visit to LA from the UK was this Gen Korean bbq, and it was perfect however this time around, I couldnt say the same. One, the service was not consistent, and they would notice you, you needing help but turn the other way and continue other conversations which I didnt appreciate. On top of that, the drinks machine wasnt working, then the card machine wasnt working and no one is saying anything or explaining anything and we are standing around awkwardly waiting.Lastly, the food portions were small and the flavours were not there.I hate to write a bad review as I love this place but the total experience was very disappointing overall

Been coming here since it opened but the overall quality of everything has gone down. They used to bring you all the banchan side dishes (including salad/lettuce) along with seasoning, plates and tongs. The last two times Ive went, we were sat with none of those. Both times our drinks came out way past when we ordered. Got a few plates of raw meat, but no sides to eat them with for nearly 20 minutes after asking for them twice. Finally got our sides but not the salad I asked for multiple times. People sat after me were served meat, sides and salads before me. The guy next to me ate 3 salads when I couldnt even get one to my table.This is not how korean bbq is meant to be eaten. just meat and no sides? Arent sides a given with korean bbq? Waiting long times with just the meat to get the sides, and if youre lucky, the rice you asked for? Before, wed have one server dedicated to our table but now we keep getting up to five different staff stopping by and asking what we want, or attempting to drop off food we didnt order. Not sure whats happened but its become extremely disorganized. Expensive for the experience theyre now offering. Also, plates were chipped with sharp edges and food still stuck in the grooves after being cleaned. As someone whos worked in restaurants for years, the service is unacceptable. Not only that but they kick you out after an hour when you spent the whole time waiting to get your food. Maybe theyre slow on purpose. You still pay, and they dont give what you ordered.

This place is pretty good. The only way you could get sick from this place is by not cooking your food thoroughly so just make sure you’re cooking your food all the way and you should be fine. You can also ask the waiter to turn up your heat so that it cooks to your liking. Their kimchi is really good I always order the Hawaiian and spicy chicken with kimchi and rice. Their spicy cucumbers are also really good with their beef. I come here 1X a month and I always get a friendly waiter. I would also recommend their fried Korean chicken.

I used to come here all the time after work and enjoyed the food/atmosphere. However, these days it seems that their quality has significantly dropped. Majority of the meat I had ordered were all tough and chewy, despite being on the grill for appropriate amount of time, was practically inedible. Particularly the beef; as the chicken and bulgogis seemed ok.The KFC has been reduced to nuggets with sauce splashed on it. Brisket is thicker than it used to be.Service was ok, but not what it used to be.Overall, sadly I dont see myself coming back; atleast for a long while in hopes for future improvement.Guess I have to save the kbbq cravings for LA trips.

Second time coming to this place. And this time around was a late night meal. 2 hours before closing. They sat us in a room with enclosed glass walls. No fan above us, just us and a couple of other tables. As our meat began to come to our table, the staff began to clean. Mapping the floors with strong smells of Fabuloso filling the air. Not a fan of that stuff or any cleaning product while I eat. Asked for the glass door to be closed, and they did, but then the started cleaning the burners with another strong cleaner. Spraying the rim filling the air with door close as we cooked and consumed our meat. Then they sprayed white foamy glass cleaner which was even stronger. I mentioned it to our waitress. She agreed it was strong. But nothing was paused or it mention to the staff cleaning. For the price we paid that night wasn’t fair. I didn’t fully enjoy my dinner due to fumes. PLEASE be mindful of your customers during late night hours. Have your staff clean after or use more eco friendly cleaning products that don’t stink up the joint. Will not be coming back.

Staff was extremely rude a party members who could not eat due to medical issues was being charged $27 “per head” and was asked to sit at the bar or would be charge… I have never heard such BS in my life. On a Friday night it was very loud and busy. The rules for dinner were explained like a warning. The ingredients were fine and a wide variety was on offer. Grilling at the table was a novel experience. I wont do it again unless someone close to me is set on going.

This place really put me in the tough spot to write this review.My husband and I came from LA county and we might be used to with real Korean bbq in Korea town,That’s why this place quite a disappointed.First of all the ban chan or side dishes,That was the first things suppose to be on the table with varieties of yummy veggies,pickles,salad,kimchi etc. doesn’t matter you’ll eat all of them or not because that’s How Original Korean people do when they eat Korean bbq but with this place you’ll have to order those side dishes with your server,They’ll not bring it unless you ask for,Which I have never experience this in any Korean bbq place I’ve been to.I understand they might try to save cost by not wasting those left over side dishes but it’s just not How Korean bbq place suppose to be.Meat quality was not great but wasn’t bad either,I would give them a OK quality.The most disappointed item I would have to give it to “Thin Slice Beef Brisket” Though.Normally when you put this kind of brisket on the grilled it would almost melted and when you eat the texture should be soft and melted into your mouth but the brisket here was tough and chewy,Which this was my first time I had a slice brisket that was this hard.Another things I have to talk about was the tofu stew soup.They serve in a small bowl with a plastics spoon just like what you get from a cheap buffet.I have never seen any Korean bbq place does that! It will usually serve in a hot stone bowl,So it will remain hot for a while but the soup taste wasn’t bad,It’s was another a OK again.The best things on this visit was staffs,They are all so great! Make sure we got what we want,Grilled had changed as much as we want,Every time someone walked by they’re always make sure we’re doing ok,Love it! So the stars was basically for the service.Overall in my personal opinion,This place wasn’t a great or awesome Korean bbq but it’s wasn’t bad either,It was OK.Will we come back for a second time when we’re in the area? We’ll have to think hard about it.

This Gen has been going downhill over the years. You used to be eligible to order food for up to 2 hours and now you only get 1 hour to order before last call (AND they raised their prices? Tf?) Less meat choices (no more beef tongue) and meat quality has gone down. The waiter came once every 15 minutes and we always got fewer servings than what we ordered. For the first time, since Gen first opened in the Collection, my party left the building hungry.Im guessing its still popular because its the only KBBQ in Ventura County. Any other KBBQ would blow this place to bankruptcy.

It was really good, wish they wouldve had seasoning for the meat but we brought our own. Their potato salad is a fan fave. The only other thing is the waiter switched out halfway and the second guy was nowhere near as attentive as the first. We had to look for him.***EDIT *** Come to find out this is one of the few GENS that DOESNT offer seasonings. We went to other ones and they bring out a little try with sauce and seasonings on it at the very beginning. So this place is just lagging in the spice memo I guess 🙃

It is THE korean bbq place in oxnard. 30 items on the menu, $26.99 per person. Meat was good and our server was attentive. Only thing I’d mention is when checking in on Yelp, you still have to check in with the front desk staff, wait another 15-30 min, then be seated. Plan ahead when going in a group.

First time visiting Gen Korean BBQ. Nice ambiance but the service was horrible. Food was good but how many times does someone have to ask the waiter for a drink and some rice? We tried about 5 times. Horrible evil bad manager names Penny, made a huge mistake and lost a tremendous amount of pharmaceutical business here she had the audacity to make a huge deal over 5 dollars “leftover plate charge” no one ever told me about it. Security was called by the wicked witch and they laughed at her. All her employees laugh at her. She makes 20 dollars per hour and sure acts like it. Prompt courteous service, with a wide assortment of delicious menu choices at a great price! Though we prefer dining during their weekday lunch hours because less expensive than their dinner menu. Its also less crowded.Weve driven past a few times at night. Theres always a line waiting for an open table. Still, the long lines & cuisine for the price are great indications that its definitely worth the wait.

We last went to Gen before Covid, so we were really surprised to see how downhill its gone. Outside the restaurant there is a podium that states all the things they dont do anymore. Then you go inside and the plexiglass separating you from the hostesses is really dirty. They no longer have physical menus (so dont go in with a low battery or without your glasses). You either have to use the qr code or take a picture of the menu. God help you if youre like my in-laws and have flip phones. There were no people in line in front of us when we checked in but they still took or phone number. Then a couple walked up a few minutes later and was seated right away in the window seats. We only had 3 in our party and those window seats easily fit 4. We got seated at a corner table where every waiter passes by and still there was an open window seat they could have put us in. The menu states you can stay for 90 minutes. At the one hour mark we were asked if we wanted anything else since it was last call for us. This experience was nowhere near as great as pre-covid times. We were disappointed.

We came around 1:30 in the afternoon so there was no crowd. There was no wait for a table. The waitress asked if we wanted drinks, and they came right away. After ordering our meat, that came pretty quickly as well. Even though we had to cook our own meats, we can order as much as we want, BUT you have to eat what you order. There are no to-go plates, so go hungry! Everyone enjoyed their time, and all the workers were amazing.

Avoid this place!Visited today and the manager Penny refused to make a reasonable accommodation for my wife who can’t eat at the restaurant currently due to a medical condition.Penny told us she would be charged full price. We visit this location 2-3 times a month and the staff know us. Neither Penny or or Annie at Gen corporate followed the ADA guidelines for reasonable accommodations.Avoid this place!

Most of the dishes are all you can eat, brought to your table raw to be cooked by you. They dont bring a thermometer however, so knowing the chicken is safe to eat might be difficult. The limit for time is 90 minutes, and any uneaten dishes will incur a $5 charge each. Overall, not bad if you want an all you can eat K BBQ meal.

One of the highlights of our trip. We visited GEN KOREAN with some Korean friends so they walked us through the “must get” options and it was much easier with their help. One of the worst experiences I have ad at any Gen I been to, they pushed our place inline because someone left from our group bc of the already long wait, from a 30 min original wait time it took 1.5 hours.When we finally sat down, the grill temperature was horrible complained to 3 staff members before I finally got up and spoke to a manager. Im actually somewhere between a 4 and a five for this restaurant. I was actually expected to be a sit down restaurant where they take your order and they bring you your Korean barbecue but its not that. Sit down at a share table and you and your party have a hot stove in the middle of your table and you cooking me yourself. It is a one price per person thing except for drinks. So that makes easy. We have 30 different types of prepared meats you can have. Some like the Korean fried Chicken you dont cook they just bring it to you already ready. Did you charge extra if you waste food. You get some side dishes. Small little lamp but I asked for rice and it didnt come and I had to ask the second time to have it. Not a biggie. I tried their premium steak and it was nice and soft but it wasnt prepared with any spices on it so its kind of plain. The spicy pork bulgogi was very good. And then I actually did try the Korean fried Chicken and it was decent but not anything special. Staff is friendly. I ordered a drink and the waitress was nice have to tell me thats the 32 oz drink and I said thank you Ill get something smaller. So again somewhere between 4 and 5.

They let people in some random order, giving priority to large parties because of the service charge. If you want to dine there, dont bother about getting on the wait-list. When the bill came, we were charged full price for one child. When Penny, the general manager came out she again reiterated that because he came and sat down and we (the other 4 of us) ordered we were going to be charged his plate. She stated it was because he sat us at a table for 6 and if we were at a smaller table we wouldnt of been charged. Then stated if we told them earlier we would of been shown leniency and could of worked with us however, thats what we were doing, we were giving early notice and we had barley begun eating. And Penny also confirmed that had we all left immediately we would all not be charged, so one person leaving is not different. Also there were other big tables open and we were not impeding business. We asked her to review the cameras and see that our other party only got a beer from the bar and she declined. Its shocking to believe that they wouldnt remove $28 and have now lost $112+ for everytime we were planning on coming back. I will no longer visit this establishment. Worst experience in terms of service Ive had in a while. From the start, I got a text saying we were next in line. I let the girl know and she lets 2 other 2 person parties in before us upon their arrival, making the next in line a 15+ minute wait. Meeting with my friends for Dinner. They were there before me. The host said no I couldnt sit and eat with friends. It was rude and not friendly. I couldnt believe that they wouldnt set me to eat. Wow. Really. Crappy customer service skills. I will never spend my money at this location ever. Turning away paying customers is bad for business. The food was ok, they added new items to the menu, it used to be 20 dollars an adult and kids were free now its 25 dollars an adult and kids are 10 dollars or full priced depending on height. There are no metrics for measuring height they just kind of eyeball it so I was charged for my kids. When I told them my daughter isnt 4ft tall they kindly removed her from the bill, so the ten dollars that I would have spent on my daughter I gave to vik, our waiter. As we were walking out vik chased us down and demanded that we pay him more and that the ten dollars wasnt enough and began to become pugnacious. I urged him to calm down and take a breath and reminded him that we agreed if he took the 10 dollars off for my daughter I would give it to him instead. He then persisted, and started telling me how the restaurant isnt paying him enough and he has child support and is paying 70 percent. I told him I get it times are tough thats why I thought I would help out with the extra tip even though prices for the restaurant went up and they started gauging customers to make up for covid. Everyone is struggling. We came here to get a value meal like we had in the past. I realize it isnt your fault but in their attempt to generate profits people are less inclined to leave larger tips, so I thought to off set that Id give you the 10 dollars that you were gonna charge for my daughter. At this point my wife was done, the kids were crying and tired so she took out 20 dollars and said here, just cross out the ten dollars and take the twenty in cash. He seemed to like that and we left. If he just took the tip we would have came back and paid him in kind continuously in the future, but since we were chased down and harassed to pay more money over 10 dollars when originally his tip was a recommended 13 on the receipt. So he chased me down for 3 dollars!!! We wont be going back. Its no longer a value meal and the food isnt worth the price. Sushi restaurants charge the same price as gen korean bbq house.

Im a bay area native, so we dont have nearly the selection of kbbq as is available here in so cal. If you love meat and have a big appetite, this place will be well worth it. Its not the best, but its still great, and especially for the price, its really hard to say no. Just one small gripe, on the more busy days for dinner, they seem to be short on staff, so service might take a little longer than expected.

Fun place to dine when you have a group! You get to try different meats and cook it yourself on the grill. Be warned. You will smell like barbecue afterward.Service can vary. The first time I went, the waiter was constantly replacing the grill plates so the food wouldnt stick. Second time around, we always had to flag our waitress to do so. Really good all you can eat with decent prices specially lunch. I highly recommend the intestine If you know to cook it a long time and keep cooking it till it is shriveled up and crunchy on the outside but still soft and moist on the inside. We always order a lot of the 1 and 3 the thin slices pork belly is hit or miss depending on the cut though.

This is a really cool Korean BBQ. They decor is really modern and artsy. Really tall ceilings and a cool layout. Great place for dates or just to get a bite with friends.A little pricey but worth every penny. Just remember that its really easy to order too much. My family and I seem to end up here whenever were celebrating something. We love the style and flavor and cooking it yourself. The variety of meats and the whole presentation is fun and fulfilling. There price is a little high for a whim meal, at least for my budget, but Id eat here more often otherwise. Lunch hours are cheaper (before 2 pm) so take advantage if you can. Dinner offers a few more specially meat choices but Im more than satisfied with lunch time choices. Also any holiday not matter what time of day are dinner prices.

All You Can Eat at its finest. But, dont bother if youre vegetarian, its pretty much a meat-eaters delight here. With almost 30 items on the AYCE menu, and 2 hours to eat, youll be stuffed long before then if you try different foods.Just make sure to get your reservations in if planning to go during prime hours (lunches and dinners), or you may be waiting for upwards of an hour and half for a table. During off-hours, its sometimes easy to walk in and get a table.

For uncultured people who really do not have an expansive palate, this is ideal, exotic, and convenient because it’s a chain. The chef must’ve accidentally dropped all of their spices into the soondubu. It’s was overbearingly spicy (and normally I like my soondubu spicy) but this was atrocious. It was a spicy, red soup with a few pieces of soft tofu, where was the rest of the soup? The meats were mezzo-mezzo. But what the heck can I expect from a chain like Koizi? Mass produced junk with not much effort from the chefs, they’re just trying to get guests fed and outta there. However, the servers wore masks. That was appreciated and my favorite part of the experience. One might be more inclined to make the 1.5-2 hour drive to Koreatown if you’re in Oxnard and get something worthwhile. Cheers!

The plates were dirty with a yellow crusty substance still on the bottoms of the plates. The Korean fried chicken was as hard as rocks, borderline burnt!. I have been coming to this place for lunch or dinner at least once a month for the last six to eight months. I have always enjoyed the salad and bulgogi and the dumplings. Most of the time I come with just one other person. The staff tries hard to be welcoming and inviting.Today, however, I had four friends with me. I asked the hostess for a larger table and she told me she couldn’t accommodate five people at a six person table. When I then asked the server if they could give us a more comfortable table, she shuffled around and pretended to try to help us. Nothing was accomplished. One of my guests had to awkwardly sit at the end of our table, in front of the stove top controls. An extra serving table was placed near our table in the aisle so we could move unnecessary dishes out of the way.Mind you, this was lunch time and the restaurant was by no means busy.I would just like the management to know that the next three times I decide to take a friend out to lunch, I will be going to Kabuki. After that, if Gen is still in business, I might return for their delicious bulgogi, but only as a party of two or three. LARGER GROUPS ARE OBVIOUSLY NOT WELCOMED!

The closest and best spot to go to if youre in 805. Being originally from the borderline of LA County and Orange County, this would definitely be the best option for KBBQ that is closest to SLO County and Santa Barbara County. The price is fair, theres no Choice A,B or C. Decent selections, 31 choices from the list, for about $30 a person. This is also definitely way better and worth the money (if youre fine to travel) for KBBQ than Sizzlinggogi in Santa Maria. (Okay spot for lot of money for little (very little) choices).

Imagine going to a restaurant, ordering, then they bring you raw food because the kitchen stove broke, then demand full payment. That is my Gen experience. Third and last visit. Burner never fully lit. They tried 4 times and after an hour and getting two items to barely cook, charged full price. Spoke to both manager and they just did not care. Not a fan of their iced down flavoured soju carrafs ($13); guess Im just used to the fusion soju bars in Seoul, I like to actually see the soju bottles. Awesome place to have KBBQ locally. Theres a long line on weekends, so its best advisable to come earlier or during lunch time (when it is cheaper). Lots of quality meats and side dishes to consume. Make sure to eat what you order! Not a good place to bring guests who are vegetarian/vegan.
