Solid Chinese-American, with lunchtime hot bar serving choice of 1, 2 or 3 mains and chow mien, fried or white rice.Heaping portions lunch platter for under $10 — a bargain. Crispy fried pork chop, yum. Vegetable stir fry, comfortable and tasty. Chicken chow mien, unassuming but nothing special.A good option when seeking something casual, familiar and local.

Food was fresh and well made, portion size is great, the only thing I didn’t like was they put a lot of salt in everything, it was way too much salt particularly in chicken salad . Service was good and fast and one guy was doing everything from host stand to telephone operators, serving, clearing the tables. I will give it another try but won’t forget to mention them to go easy on salt :)

We ordered the roasted duck lunch option. It was served witch pak choi and rice as a side without any sauce. This was already a little bit disappoiting but not yet a problem. The bad part of the meal was the duck, which only consisted of bones and fat. There was barely any meat on it. We ate the rice and went somewhere else to get good food. Prices are decent but thats useless if the food sucks. Cant recommend going there at all.

7/11/23 easy service. i always look at the menu beforehand and ready to order. i guess just know what you want to chow down. i got the beef steak with mango & black pepper sauce. pretty hefty portion i like to say. and also egg rolls. these egg rolls were thicc bois, but its the veg so i dont know if the pork is the same. i think overall was enough for a hungry boi. expect big protions so dont go over overboard on yourself.

This is an excellent and not very expensive Chinese restaurant on Nob Hill. Ive had carry out from here half a dozen times in as many months. Every time I have been totally satisfied. Ive had Mongolian Beef, Fried Rice, Chow Mein, and my favorite by far is the roast duck. The duck has been the best roast duck Ive had in years and it was just as good all three times that I ordered it. One time a friend and I ate in the restaurant and the service was good and the mostly empty restaurant made a relaxing setting for our meal.

I really enjoyed their chicken with lemon sauce (facsimile orange chicken). Also, I woulda loved to meet the shrimp that fried my rice. We definitely finished all the duck lo mein!We chose this place instead of the cheaper option down the block because they accepted card and cash. They’re food reviews are also less skewed because they don’t also serve doughnuts.

While I love their food as it’s really delicious and prices are reasonable, the lady working there is miserable and rude. She’s expecting for a tip even when our order was for take out. Tips should be complimentary and NOT obligatory. She complained directly to our faces about the tip and I insisted I’m not going to as their customer service is beyond mediocre. When expecting tips, please provide exceptional services first instead of showing your customers that they owe you tips for a poor quality of service.

The food flavor is okay but it could have been a little bit more better. I did notice that many people come here for takeout. I came as a tourist and I wanted some really good Chinese food and this restaurant popped up as one of the best ones. Their takeout is pretty good. They come in reusable containers. They do not give you plates you can purchase them across the street at CVS pharmacy where you can also see that trader Joes shop.

Great local restaurants. Very economical for being in the heart of San Francisco. Food was excellent and service was okay. My party got a bunch of small dishes and sides instead of ordering combination platters. All of the dishes were extremely good and reasonably priced. Definitely worth going to if youre in the area and looking for some Chinese food without paying a premium price.

This place is a disaster. The waiter was barely able to speak English, and when we ordered a side of rice he bring an entire entree instead. He realized his mistake and took it off the bill which was great, and that would have been it. Unfortunately it wasn’t. All the food they brought out were insane portions, each plate probably enough to feed a family of 4. My girlfriend got the Tomato beef chow mein which had undercooked beef, and you can tell they buy the worst possible quality of meat from the first bite. It was chewy and did not taste natural. The sauce on the noodles was overly sweet to the point of being a dessert, so we couldn’t have more than two bites as it was incredibly overwhelming. The waiter never came over during our dinner once to check in, so my girlfriend didn’t end up eating a thing as she couldn’t ask for something else. Finally the waiter came over to give us the receipt, and when we mentioned the mountain of untouched noodles to him, he called his boss over who proceeded to get angry at us(???) And didn’t offer any sort of apology. Avoid this place like the plague, there’s a ton of other Chinese places that can provide much better service and quality of food than this place.

Solid Chinese local favorite serving great food with fast service. Like others have said, it doesn’t look like much but the taste is fantastic. Had a great lunch and ordered more to take home for later. Prices are super good for the quality of the meals.

Low prices with big portions are all I have to say. This is a good place to get all kinds of seafood. The menu has a lot of options to choose from and provides a lot of choices with different categories. They do takeout orders for this restaurant with friendly staff helping us. Food was pretty quick, a good place to get amazing Asian food.

Good quality Chinese food for lunch and dinner just a 5 minutes or so drive from SF Chinatown. Come here for a family banquet several times a year. Because of the inflation cause of food in general, there are lesser quantities of meat, chicken, or seafood in each order.The price is still somewhat reasonable especially since this is San Francisco.

Very friendly service at Golden Horse, regardless of how much you order or spend. This is good for large groups if you give them a heads up. Family style serving with many courses that offer something for everyone are great. If in a smaller group or alone the lunch specials are spectacular. The servings are very generous with the lunch specials and the prices are perfect for a quick lunch. Quickly served, too.

If you are looking for a lazy Chinese take out type night this place will not disappoint. I had the Eggplant with pork and a (mild) Spicy Mongolian Beef. Hit the spot. Accepts credit cards. Rice not included. I got take out but the place was pretty filled when I was there. They should really clean the front carpet near register or toss it away. It hasnt been red for a decade Im guessing.

Affordable place for solid Chinese food with good portion sizes. Kids loved the beef chow fun and chicken chow mein. Adults enjoyed fried won ton in soup, sauteed pea shoots with garlic, salt & pepper pork chops, rock cod clay pot and chicken fried rice with salted fish.

One of the only lunch dishes that didnt come with beef or pork, was advised as Schezwan eggplant with rice . 20 minutes later it came, loaded with pork. I asked for my soup (supposed to come with meal) and it was a beef soup. I would have specified that I dont eat beef or pork, but again this was one of the few options that it didnt have that written on the menu. They offered to make me a new dish, which I appreciate, but i couldnt wait another 20 minutes, and had an appointment to go to. Hope they can put on the menu, whats in the dish!

Food was okay. Typical Chinese food. Nothing special. We ordered combo B and combo appetizer. The shrimp fried rice had rice, eggs and baby shrimp. Beef broccoli had more broccoli than beef. Won ton soup litterally had won ton with cabbage in a less than flavorful broth. What topped off my visit is when the workers litterally sat at that table next to us and talked so loud in Chinese I could hardly pay attention to my conversation. And the lady offered to put our leftovers in a container....she literally packed up our food like dog food with all the food mixed together instead of into individual slots separating rice from meat and egg rolls underneath it all. No customer service....smh!!

On our first visit to the City, we wanted a laid-back traditional Chinese food restaurant for dinner. We found Golden Horse near our hotel, and it was exactly what we were looking for! The service was prompt, helpful, and friendly. The food was affordable and filling. Highly recommend for family, singles or couples.

Quick and cheap! It would be 4 or 5 stars if the staff wasnt so rude and the food wasnt so bland. But a takeout order for 4 is ready to go in 10 minutes and is half as expensive as 3/4ths of similar restaurants in sf. By rude staff I mean; cold, pushy, staff members cutting customers while speaking so staff can speak to each other, acting as if customers are not there. By bland food I mean; way light on spices, not the best quality meats, frozen veggies, and low quality Rices & broths. But overall ok, you get what you pay for with this place. Ok if you are broke and in a hurry I guess

My favourite Chinese spot in the city. I go out of my way to come here for a quick, cheap fix. The Szechuan Chicken Chow Mein is amazing and comes in a big enough portion to leave one person stuffed. Staff are all very friendly, and its never hard to get a table even at busier times.

Purchased 4 takeout dishes: beef with oyster sauce, kung pau shrimp, Chinese veg, and hot and sour soup.Soup good, but shrimp and beef were all green pepper, celery, onion and water chestnut masquerading the very, very small amount of the star ingredient. Not right. Doesnt work for us for about $50.

Im a big fan of the Szechuan Chicken Chow Mein at $5.95 lots of flavor at a rock bottom price. Many items on the menu range in price from Won Ton soup at $4.95 to $7.95 for Wor Won Ton. Meat dishes are $8 to $9 including a tasty Szechuan Sizzling Beef at $8.50. Popular with the local ethnic Chinese community so it is possible to order more traditional dishes. My only issue is the bathroom that could be a *tad* more clean and a fresh coat of paint would be a welcome change. The dining area is clean and service is generally fast and pleasant.
