Go on post hike here and you won’t regret it. Amazing ribs and brisket, ask for the hot bbq sauce, mac and cheese is well seasoned. My friends and I couldn’t stop saying “wow!” while we were eating 😂
Dang. SO GOOD!!! The brisket is legit. But if you really want your world rocked, try the cheesesteak. The Mac and cheese was delicious too. Gotta get there early, they only cook so much food and they may run out. The line is def with the wait.
Food was good, but they forgot to give me the 1/2 pounds of brisket I ordered. Has to go back and tell them. They questioned if I looked in my bag. Of course I did! Customer service was okay at best.
Everything tasted fabulous. And the staff is so friendly in spite of what must be hours of a full line around the corner till they close. Mac & cheese? Up there with some of the best Ive ever had, very rich! Hot links were perfectly spicy, ribs were fall off the bone tasty, and the cornbread was just sweet enough to compliment the whole meal. Yes, we bought too much. Yes, were stuffed!
Pricey for middle of the road BBQ. Pulled pork was dry but drowned in BBQ sauce it was good. Ribs were tasty but dry. Mac and cheese was gross.
Been here couple times & tried all the meats this little store has but my favorites are ribs & beef briskets. Those are so soft & just fall off the bone (ribs). The dipping sauce is amazingly good too. Price keeps increasing but its worth it for the taste of bbq. Line always long right before it opens. If you want to avoid the line, come around 1:00 PM ish. Plenty parking spots where people just buy & eat in their car. No dining tables here.
The renowned bbq capitol of the world, Memphian in me had the blessed opportunity to find out about the glorious jem of this establishment right on the coast of my most favorite-ist town in the world, Pacifica, CA! I love the quality of the food and promptness of the service, and convenient to take along as a easy lunch/dinner on the beach.The smokiness, flavor, and richness of the tender, succulent ribs are very memorable since I first wrapped my lips around them (October 15). Just magickal. Portions are filling and side options are delectable to say the least I wish this place to stay open forever, and dont ever close again!!!
Wow. Id been wanting to go to Gorilla barbecue for several years and I finally went this past weekend. The line is really quick and the wait after you order is also really fast. They dont have any seats; they have a small grassy area you can eat at if you bring your own blanket. We drove south 1 minute and ate at Pacifica Beach View Park which has free parking. The portions are VERY generous. We for the 2 meat combo with brisket and ribs and were surprised how big the ribs were. We split the plate and still had leftovers. The brisket was very tender like brisket we have had from Austin. This is definitely the one place you should eat if youre in the area.
Ribs are out of this world. Brisket excellent though some parts a little bit dry. Ask for fattier brisket portion! Cornbread is solid, which is saying a lot compared to cornbread at most bbq spots. We got the zucchini and corn on the cob to round out the platter and both were perfectly grilled and spiced complements to the meat. No seating so find a spot on the steps or log up the hill, or the concrete barrier next to parking. It can get a bit messy so not worth eating in the car.
Great place. Friendly staff and amazing food. Any place that bases their closing hours off of when they sell out of food is a good sign. If its not sold out get the brisket or the pulled pork everything is good but those two are my favorites. Also their Philly cheese steak is excellent.
Hit or miss! I’ve had good brisket here but my last order was legit 80% fat. I had to pick the meat out like I was popping a pimple. More of a task. Chicken was real good. I see people complaining about the pink but when smoked right that’s how it looks! It comes with rice and beans which I’d pass up for more mac and cheese. Place has potential just needs more consistency.
Sorry to say I was very dissatisfied. After a nice long hike by the coast I was drooling to try this place & had high hopes. If it had been just as good as home bbq that woulda been gr8. They were outta pulled pork- bummer-so i chose the half chicken. Was about to eat sum ripped off breast meat on the way home & when I looked the chicken was undercooked badly! See photo. For the amount paid I was livid. Mind you this was in early Summer when there was no dine-in yet or I would have had it replaced.At home I nuked it for a few minutes to be sure it was safe. They are not generous with sauce iether. 😕☹👎
The menu on google is not the actual menu. They don’t sell by plate, so you end up spending 2x as much as you would have if you planned according to the online menu. I came all the way from SF and was pretty disappointed. The staff was pretty condescending about the menu too. Food is good though.
First time I went here years ago I was not a fan. I decided to give it another shot and Im happy I did. The brisket was really good. But man those mushrooms were the best Ive ever had! So much delicious flavor.
Came for weekday lunch. Glad to see they don’t have the crazy long lines as they did in the past. Delicious bbq and sides. Prices are ok, but a little high for take out only. I had the brisket sandwich today which was tender, had lots of juicy meat, and had lots of flavor. Service was friendly.They would benefit from a bench or 2, or a few tables to sit for lunch.
Fantastic Texas barbeque place in Pacifica. The chicken was tender, the pork chops were amazing and the meat fell off the bone, the brisket was good and the pulled pork was great with the sauces. All and all a fantastic barbeque joint outside Texas. Note that this is a takeaway place only, we took everything and just sat at the nearby beach.

Amazing food, cooked to perfection where the meat just peels off the bone, spices and sauces provided just accentuate the taste of the meat ... and the potatoe salad / coleslaw were a very nice addition to already delicious meal.Customer for life thats for sure.
Food was not good like before. Ihad ribs(dry!!!), hot link and brisket(dry too!!!). There are no sides in the menu. Due to covid we had to stay in line for about 2.5 hours. We came around 12:20. Very disappointed.

There arent a lot of bbq places in the Peninsula, but this one is consistently good. I love the unique train storefront, and theres almost always a line out the door. Their ribs are fall-off-the-bone tender and have a nice smoky flavor. The bbq sauce has a hint of cinnamon and has a bit of a kick to it. Also, get there early if you want their brisket, because they usually sell out of that item faster than anything else.
The food here is outstanding. I have tried about everything on there menu....a few times. I highly recommend it. Just get there early and bring your appetite as you will need it.

Best bbq in the Bay Area. All sides and meats are good, but the stars of the show are undoubtedly the brisket and the ribs. This place deserves a seating area.
Ordered 1/2 lb brisket, pulled pork, and ribs, and “XL” side of potato salad ($13!!). Total came out to $65. Glad we tried this but I’d only get a full pound of fatty brisket in the future if we were to come back.Pulled pork and ribs were on the drier side. The BBQ sauce was very heavy on the ketchup which I didn’t love.If you’re in the area, this is a good place to get some bbq for pick-up to a nearby park. Service was super quick and they were nice; they make everything ahead and package it up right after you order.
Cant believe that Ive lived in the area practically my whole life and only just went here for the first time. I love BBQ but sadly very few places are satisfying enough to really be worth the expense. This place on the other hand was amazing, their BBQ beef brisket just melted in my hands and had a perfect smoked texture and flavor. Even better their service was amazing as well, the cashier and cook were very friendly and I had a wonderful conversation with them while I waited for my food.The interaction wasnt awkward and my food came out fairly quickly. The only criticism I have is that the bread for their brisket sandwich was okay, but thats a very minor detail that doesnt take away from how good the food was otherwise. Oh, and how can I forget about the sauce!? It was delicious as well.All things considered, Im going back and cant wait until they are back at full capacity.
This is a take-out place, only open on Saturday and Sunday, and is almost always crowded. Customers must line up to place orders. There is a line out the door all the time because they only allow one or two people/parties to order at a time. Even on a brisk 60-degree day like today, still many folks are waiting in line to order. Be forewarned - once they run out of their grub, which is often, they close, whether youre in line or not. Keep this in mind and get there early.

I heard this place was featured on some TV show. And so a line forms outside pretty quick, and keep in mind they may sell out of something by the time you arrive. Luckily on today there were plenty of smoked meats like the pulled pork, and their famous ribs! The ribs were incredibly smoked and had a lot of flavor! They were easy to pick off the bone and the bone can be used for soups! The included barbecue sauces also good too, almost like a sweet and sour sauce!

Well they ran out of potato salad so I got a corn muffin to go with the ribs it had 1 piece of corn in the muffin, ribs were a little salty, sauce was ok, dont think Ill go there for ribs again maybe I will try the brisket but when I got there around 4 mostly everything was gone! A little disappointed since it was my first time there..
Food is good, but not worth standing an hour in the queue for. What makes it worse is that it appears as if there is a deliberate design to make the queue longer. There is a lot that can be done to make the order taking and fulfilling much faster, but hey - most folks get attracted to the place because of the long queues, and so many reviews then talk about it - why not make it a feature and not a bug! Good thinking on part of the restaurant, but my time is important. I feel particularly bad for the elderly - they should have a token system or an online ordering system with accurate pick up times which makes the entire experience much better, apart from the food which is undoubtedly good.

Love the ribs and brisket. Its worth the long drive. I remember the Mac and cheese used to be better when I went the first time a couple of years ago. Not sure what happened. The potato salad still great. Its takeout only so be ready to grub in your car or parking lot area.

I never thought I would wait an hour and a half in line outside for BBQ. I never thought it would be worth it. Wrong on both counts. Amazing brisket, pulled pork, ribs, and links. Get the fatty brisket. Their potato salad is creamy and smoother than most, I really enjoyed it.

Good but not the best BBQ Ive ever had.Maybe its because I went later in the day but they didnt have much left and kinda skimped on the sides.No bread or bun for the hot link we ordered and the Mac and cheese was way more sauce than noodles.Meat was good but there wasnt much in the way of seasoning besides the BBQ sauce they give you to dip
Really, Really, Really good!!! Stopped to try the Brisket. Get the Sandwich... Had to be at least 3/4 of meat. Could have fed two people. Also tried the Mac N Cheese. Super gooey, not overly cheesy. And they use this great spice mixture that just brings it all together. I have had BBQ in many places... This place is absolutely legit!!! Easy to pass right by it. Look for the orange train car.... And prepare to eat in the car. All takeout... But all worth it!!!

The brisket here is amazing. As are the ribs. I bet the pulled pork is good, but Im not a pulled pork fan. And the BBQ sauce makes everything 100% better. The mac and cheese here is good, and even better with the BBQ sauce. The hot links are good. And there are mushrooms, eggplant, zucchini, and beans and rice for vegetarians.They are only open for as long as they have meat. They often run completely in the afternoon. Come hungry, come early, come often.This is take out only, and they have no seating.
My wait in line wasn’t bad, 30 minutes from start to finish. I had the rib sandwich and I think it was good but not the best I’ve had. I think mission st BBQ in Santa Cruz is by far better. I think this place is overrated by Guy Fieri. He has to put on a show and have a restaurant to put on his show.
After my third visit I must admit that I feel only lukewarm about Gorillas meats. They are a very nice bunch, with always a smile at the ready, but I find the meats (after trying all of them twice) are good but not as awesome as the experience of waiting for a long time in line makes you expect.That said, they are key to our local Pacifica community and the best place to get your smoke fix. If you dont know what to get, RIBS for the win!
I Love this place. They give you outstandingly good portions and the BBQ itself is outrageously good. Their BBQ sauce is pretty good too and has everything I like in a sauce. Sweet. Tangy. Peppery. Thicker. THe Corn on the cob is fantastic and I think is one of their better sides. The Mac and Cheese is the best hands down though. As far as meats go. You cant go wrong. You should go with a bunch of people so that you can get a little bit of everything. Also you should get more than one sauce because they dont give you a lot.
The barbeque is pretty good. The ribs came off the bone, the pulled pork was tender, the hot links were spicy, and the sauce was very good! The portions are large, the 3 meat plate could probably feed 3-4 people easy, just need a couple of extra sides, unless you just want meat!

( This is how good the food is )I waited over 1/2 an hour for the food, to have them run out of basically everything, but one nice lady offered me a corn bread, not to overwhelm the poor soul with my over Dramata approach I just simply conveyed my appreciation as I made my way threw the parking lot NONE other than the young lady that took the last of the goods offered to share her dinner with me i have never in my 35 years experienced such kindness. The owner bless his heart checked in with us with an apology for service and asked if anything else could be provided ( a very good hearted dad vibe ) we said no and thanked him.In short I technically didnt even buy food but the brisket and corn bread was sublime and this sounds weird just saying it in my head but parking lot atmosphere top notch !

Good smoke flavor. Friendly service. We.tried cheese steak, chicken and pulled pork sandwiches.. All 3 were excellent. Lots of meat in each one. The BBQ sauce was vinegar based and was really tasty. I had the pulled pork with potato salad which I really liked as well.

Some really good BBQ at a reasonable price no less! I tried the Ribs (yum!) and the Hot Link Sandwich (Philly Style), it was the bomb. So good. I did have to wait in line like 30 minutes, but it wasnt that bad. The sides were pretty standard, except the Mac & CHeese which I think has their Run in it. It was just different enough from the run of the mill stuff to be interesting and new.The BBQ stuff though was all top notch, and represented a solid value. Definitely try this if you have the time.
Wow. I was initially discouraged by the line but I had nothing else going on so I waited. I ended up waiting 1:15 on a Sunday. I ordered chicken sandwiches link sandwiches and the whole chicken for the family. Had cornbread and and potato salad on the side. it was the best bbq chicken that Ive had in the Bay Area. slightly better than Everret Jones. The big guy taking the order was extremely friendly. they even gave my daughter a sample rib and a couple of stickers! great customer interaction. well done gorilla!
Great bbq, but they definitely need to do something about those side dishes..Im a chef,and Im recommending better tasting sides. Greens, Cabbage,Green Beans, Okra, Succotash, Spaghetti. Something better then what they have. And the Mac & Cheese has to much nutmeg in it,use fresh nutmeg,which has a milder flavor
The ribs are amazing. Perfectly cooked and flavored. With juicy chunks of smoked meat. A plus sauce. Sides were good with the portobello mushrooms a different one to try. Also, had the pulled pork which was good - especially paired with the sauce - but not transcendental like the ribs.Next time I want to try the brisket.

Holy cow, and pig and chicken! I went on a Saturday at 6 pm. Closed. I was very upset, then I went Sunday 30 min before they opened. Found out in the line that they close when they sell out, so I waited.. boy oh boy was it worth the waitOne order is enough for two. But you wont want to stop eating. Leftovers were still amazing. The leftover after two days in the fridge was still better then anything Ive had in California. By far the best!
Food wasnt bad. The pulled pork was a little bland and the ratio of meat to sides was a little off. Thats cool if you like to eat just meat, but not the best if you enjoy the mix of foods and flavors. I arrived 4 and a half hours before they close and they were already sold out of half of the main meat choices. They officially close at 8 but shut the doors at 330 because they ran out of everything. Be wary if you are driving in from far.
Found this place on DDD. The food is great and fresh. They have most meats everyday until they run out. The Philly cheese steak is delicious made with brisket. Highly recommend the Mac n cheese as a side. People line up for when they open at 12pm noon. Worth the trip!

I dont understand the hype. The food was nasty. I guess if you like dry unseasoned food this place is good for you. The chicken was pink inside and dry with the sauce on the side. Mac and cheese nasty and slimy. Beans were blah. Ive had barbecue and this is NOT real barbecue I threw my food in the garbage after three bites. Waste of $17.
Overpriced for sure. Doesnt come close to touching Austin BBQ, and its more expensive than all the best BBQ Ive had there. Regardless, its definitely still worth checking out. Location is perfect for taking your lunch down to the beach. Their BBQ sauce is killer!
Ok experience. Fast and friendly service. They close at 8, but ran out of everything by 3:30. Seems to me you should plan better for a holiday weekend. We were only able to try the ribs, which were just okay. Pretty much the same as any other decent BBQ joint. Really pretty bland until you sauce them. The coleslaw was good, beans and rice were good. Corn bread was passable, but not the best. Potato salad was ok. Nothing that really stood out though. I guess I expected more from a place on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.
The most dry brisket ive ever eaten in my life. Probably the most over rated barbecue place in The bay area. Guy fieri was wrong This place isnt worth the money. Its lacking Smokey flavor. The only thing that has flavor is their sauce and that isn’t barbecue to me. The mac and cheese is so thick you cant really eat much of it but it is good. Just not very fresh tasting kinda like soggy.
Food is great as advertised. Get there early before food runs out. We got there at 11:15 and soon after we got in line it started to get long and it opened at noon. This was on a Saturday. You should try it if in the area.
1st time here & I was truly shocked. Grabbed the big with 2 2 meat combos & couldnt believe how heavy it was. When I opened her up in the parking lot, I was in awe of how much food they give me. The food was absolutely delicious. I loved how they didnt put any sauce on the meat. Well worth the price I paid. I didnt even get through half of my plate, so Im eating the leftovers for dinner. Staff was friendly & nice too. Definitely coming back with more friends.
Is it the best barbecue Ive ever had? No, but it is pretty good especially for the Bay Area. Unfortunately, after being on Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives, they are really busy, so youll generally have a pretty big line to stand in. Also, they sometimes run out near the end of the day, so you cant always count on them being open for dinner. So far, weve had the ribs, pulled pork, and brisket, and its all been really good.
I drove by this place a few times & saw huge lines out the door. I thought Id give it a try. I found out the line outside is due to the fact that you just order inside & take the food out once ready. I was craving some ribs and ordered a rack. The ribs were cook a little too much for my taste. When you eat half your meat like beef jerky its overcooked. The bbq sauce was a little too much heat for a standard sauce. Just one lady taking orders & operating cash. This time I thought it was tacky for the cashier to me if I would like to add a tip. She just took my order, no service, no water service, or even asking how we were doing. That was a little shocking for me. I may change my review when I try another dish. For now, this is my review.
Ribs and Mac and cheese were excellent. The other sides were such a let down though, which was surprising, given the hype and the price. The coleslaw and cornbread tasted like they were picked up at Safeway. I love corn bread, but it was so bland and dry that we fed it to some birds outside of the car.
Ill drive an hour for this bbq. They really show that good meat doesnt need sauce. The sauce is good but the meat is so well smoked it doesnt need sauce. The combo plates are generous portions, especially the half chicken is huge, and the sides are tasty as well.

3.5 / 5Having over here from Texas, we were in search of good bbq and our standards were high. While the brisket was a bit disappointing (a bit bland for me), the ribs were absolutely worth the drive. The meat came right off the bone and wasnt lacking in flavor. Get there early or theyll sell out.
I tried Gorilla BBQ about 10 yrs ago. Did not like it at all. I decided to give them another try! The only thing that deserves any star is the young people working there! Extremely pleasant and friendly. The food was terrible. I had the bbq ribs. They were tasteless and DRY! The beans over rice were not edible. I also chose cold slaw and corn. Cold slaw tasted like the kind I get from Costco and the corn was corn, nothing special. Corn muffin was also dry and fell apart as I attempted to put butter on it to give it some taste! All in all waiting 10 yrs made no difference because the food then was the same as it was this time. I see lines outside of this place all the time and can’t figure it out! Diner Drive In’s and Dives is not always on with their choices! I will not waste my money here again!
Consistently great BBQ, get there early or you wont have a wide selection. Ribs and Chicken BBQ are my favorites here. The mac and cheese is yummy, and their brisket sandwiches are also pretty good if you are carb friendly.
Loved the barbecue here! Potato Salad is my favorite side. Brisket was probably my favorite meat. Suggest going during the week to avoid the long lines. Try to get your order early if you go in the evening because sometimes they do run out of certain meats. Use to regular this place back in 2011-2012 while working on the DSlide Tunnel project.
Get here early, like 10 am or something. if you come in too late they sell out fast. If you are a newbie get the beef brisket and the ribs, they are awesome! The corn bread is also a must have. The mac and cheese is okay.
As of 5/30/2021, they are still processing one order at a time at their counter. This leads to wait times of 1 hour or more. On Sunday the 30th I entered the line after 12PM, ordered and received my food around 2PM. Just something to consider when coming here on the weekend.
I got the ribs and the chicken. They have no real sitting area. Its basically a grab and go and they are very quick with the service. The food is decent and well priced. However, it did not strike me as anything I could not do at home. If you are travelling through the area, I would recommend stopping there for a quick bite.

Not a dine-in place, no tables or chairs its take out only, but the beach is close by so...Reasonable prices and the ribs arent saturated with overly sweet bbq sauce - its provided on the side in cups but the dry rub on the ribs is tasty enough you may not want sauce.They often run out of food so dont wait too long if youre in the bbq mood.

Good food but, they only give you a small amount of sauce. I asked for extra sauce but it wasn’t in the bag. I don’t mind paying $13.50 for a brisket sandwich and mack and cheese, but at least put enough bbq sauce to make it past 1/2 of the sandwich!
One of the best American BBQ in the area. The meet is very juicy and flavourful. Sides are also great (corn bread, beans and cole slaw). Most people just open their trunks and eat right there in the parking lot. Which is different, but kind of cool.
One of the things Ive missed most since moving from Chicago to NorCal is good barbeque. This simple carryout serves the best Ive found west of Kansas City, and the only one to which I would return. Theres no seating, although in good weather theres a small park to which diners often retreat with their ribs. It was cold and wet when I stopped a few months ago, so I ate several bones in my car in their lot, which filled me up! That was only about a third of my order; I got two more meals at home.I wish they were a lot closer to me -- its 90 minutes each way, and I rarely find myself within range at lunch time (and this is a lunch-time business).

Some of the better bbq in sf. The lines are usually ridiculously long but it moves fast. Hot links are to die for, brisket and pork are fast, and the veggies or mushrooms are a delicious secret. Sides are all great and the Mac runs out early. Skip the steak and cheese, even with brisket. They have one sauce: red, vinegary, sweet but not cloying, quite good. Staff is friendly, prices are acceptable. And its on a train car, thats so cool! (Pro tip: if the line is insane, theres a great taqueria that shares a parking lot but is hidden away behind Gorilla so doesnt have much of a line.)
Unfamiliar with the area i Looked for a BBQ place online and Gorilla came back as a result. Went over and realized it was a section of a train carriage. Pretty cool but had reservations about the food. Service was quick, everything was precooked. Prices was what I had expected. Got back home and was pleasantly surprised a how good the food was. Would go back again if Im in the area.
Best BBQ around. Located on HW1 heading northbound in an old train car that they refurbished into a wonderful takeout restaurant. People line up even before they open and they close when they sell out which they often do. It is no surprise that they sell out as everything served here is delicious. Ribs and brisket keep us coming back. Staff is very friendly and you get plenty of food for the price. Ample parking in the lot. Take note that this is a takeout restaurant so there are no tables for people to eat.
Amazing deal. Get the 2 meats. Chicken and brisket. Or pulled pork and hot links. Dont forget your two sides! Mac n cheese is the bomb. And if you did the shrooms get the Portobello. Next time mix it up. You wont be disappointed.
Wow the line here was crazy! I was driving back up from Monterey and decided to stop by Gorilla since its kinda on the way back to the city. Even at 2 in the afternoon, the line was down the sidewalk. Thankfully, it moved at a decent pace, but when I reached the cash register, they said that they were out of brisket. Sadface. Anyway, I just got a bunch of ribs to share with some family and friends back home.Gorilla uses whole spareribs so theyre huge and meaty. They tasted nice and smoky, but the sauce was too tangy for me as I usually prefer sweeter sauces. The drawback of using whole spareribs is that the texture usually turns out inconsistent. Spareribs are usually trimmed down to St. Louis cut for uniformity which helps them cook evenly. With these whole spareribs, the meat by the bones were tender, but the thinner sections by the sternum were drier and tougher unfortunately. Overall, its still not bad, and I will try to come back to get some brisket.
My friend raves about this place. I happen to be driving to Half Moon bay to pick up some hay and decided to grab some BBQ on the way back. This place must be good right? There was a line of people standing in the rain. I got a beef brisket plate and a double meat plate of beef brisket and pork ribs. Sides of potatoe salad, corn and mushrooms. I have to say there was a lot of smokey flavor but thats it, i didnt taste an excellent dry rub. The sides were ok. I really liked their cornbread though. Ill stick with 4505 meats or Memphis Minnies in the city.
Not the best tasting BBQ ribs Ive ever eaten, but theyre ok. You get plenty of food for the value. Next time Ill try something else. Ribs are fall off the bone style, thumps up for that!
This is a very good smoke house BBQ. The Mac and cheese is some of the best I have ever had.. Not only is the meat good but the vegetables are good too. You cant beat the warm sincere hello and how are you when you come to the door. For those of you who dont like it, THANKS, more for me!! They sell out almost every day. Update: I called them this summer to find out about catering and they were really quite rude. I guess they do so well that they dont want to cater for 40+ people.... they even had the balls to tell me to call back later cause they had paying coustomers they needed to serve. WOW... I was shocked...needless to say they didnt get my buisness.Previous review: The chicken was very tasty, but the pulled pork was over cooked and dry. The corn muffin was yummy.
This place is amazing! I had the brisket with a side of coleslaw......delish! The BBQ sauce is fantastic too. No tables to eat at, no bother for me dropped the tailgate on my pick up and had lunch in the sun.
Love this place. Fun way of doing business: sell out of stuff, close the store. Good for them. Makes it exciting if youre cutting it close, has forced me to try things I normally wouldnt have. Never been disappointed in the food.
We tried the pulled pork and brisket,and it was delicious. The bbq sauce is out of this world. I only give it 4 stars cause of their customer service.i had to purchased bbq sauce because they wouldnt give more than 3 little cups for 3 plates of meat. And forgot my cornbread even after I asked her if she was sure that it was in my bag.
Went to San Francisco on a little vacation to visit family. This was the first place my uncle wanted to take me. Best bbq I’ve ever had. We all had the Philly cheesesteak sandwich and Mac n cheese. Plus ordered a side of ribs. Bbq sauce was Phenomenal.
We drive about 2.5 hours just to eat here. Best bbq weve ever had. Worst 2 things about gorilla bbq is no tables but easy to over come and the wait in line some days but worth the wait. So no complaints. Have recommended this place to everyone i talk to. Will continue to drive from turlock ca to eat this bbq
This place is amazing. The line is a little long, but once you order you get your food really quick. The pulled pork and ribs are tender and flavorful. Mac and cheese is cray cray! And that cornbread, Amen!!!
Amazing barbeque, all the meats were great but the ribs stand out by far - best weve tried in this area hands down. Great staff and service, very quick and friendly with all the people in line. Worth it!
I’m only giving them 2 stars because the ribs had very little meat, the brisket was very very dry and for the price you don’t get a lot of food every if it does say it’s for 2 or 3 people. But I did love the potato salad, wish I would have got more potato salad for my money.
Im from Austin, and love Franklins, Smittys, and Blacks. My own brisket gets a salt, pepper, cayenne, and mace rub. I sous vide the flat for 48 hours and the point for 24, then it gets a two hour oak smoke. I know brisket.I like Gorillas, its definitely the best Ive found in the bay, although I still prefer Austin brisket. Their sauce isnt too sweet. Gorillas brisket has a nice bark, and great smoke. Id prefer more heat, but its definitely tasty with the right texture, both the moist and the lean. Their spare ribs are also done really well, with gorgeous caramelization and good texture. Id still prefer more heat.Potato salad was surprisingly good, and the beans and rice were cooked well, but could stand some more smoke, spice, and cilantro.
Dear vegetarian lose this tab, this restaurant is not for you! Even though Gorilla barbeque has a vegetarian meal, all the mouthwatering smells and meats will make you an instant meat lover !It is a small warehouse container basically, where they sell some serious food. You can either pick up and take it home with you or you can eat it just right next to it in the outdoors where theres something like a small picnic area.Forget about their sandwiches and just opt for their meats. I had the cheese steak sandwich, the meat was great but overall the sandwich was a bit dry. My hubby had the chicken and ribs. The chicken was a bit undercooked (still red from the inside) but he loved the flavors of the few bites he got to eat.Everyone seemed to be enjoying their food, even the only vegetarian with us.The highlight of the place is by far the mac and cheese it is the best one I had so far. As it is a barbeque place I wish they barbecued the corn instead of boiling it... The complimentary bean and rice was really good and they are extremely generous in giving you a lot of real good barbecue sauce.
This is that diamond in the rough. Be warned there is no place to sit down to eat here, and although it has hours listed, they are only open until they run out of food. This is one of those places that make enough food for each day, so get there early!The BBQ is worth it, and they have been featured on plenty of shows! If you are going here, then there are plenty of beaches to picnic at a few minutes south of here! Not to mention it is really close to Devils Slide. So after you eat, you can hike it off!Aside from being a little pricey, the food here is delicious and worth a trip out if you are nearby!
I dont understand all the high ratings. We went there with about 8 people. All ordered different things and none of us enjoyed any of it. One person threw up a couple hours later. Fatty meats, potato salad was bad, mac and cheese not great, I could go on and on. Very disappointing.
The BBQ here is delicious 😍😍👍it would be great if there are some outside dining area and restroom on the premises to wash hands even though they offer wet wipes.
Great bbq! Such great food, from a small establishment! Look for the orange train car on the Great Highway. Get here early if you want all the choices on the menu. They are always busy, so expect a little wait time. The ribs and brisket are the bomb. Hot links and chicken so tasty. The mac and cheese is to die for. Unfortunately they ran out this visit. A little pricey, but what good bbq isnt. The time it takes to smoke the meats is worth it. Dont forget to take some extra bbq sauce home!! If your in Pacifica, you cant pass this place up!!
Barbecue is a highly subjective experience, and coming from North Carolina with a Texan Mother, Im always on the lookout for great barbecue on the West Coast. Gorilla is good, but it misses the mark on a few areas.The building is a quaint locomotive converted into a smokehouse, and they follow the traditional open till we run out hours. Best to arrive well before 4pm on weekends or you might have to make the drive home on an empty stomach.The ribs were excellent, and the sauce is addictive. Brisket lacked the deep smoke rings and there was hardly any bark. Also, the serving I had was dry. A friend had chicken and express a desire to douse it in sauce, another sign that the moisture had left the poor bird a long time ago.But as I said, Barbeque is highly subjective. Heading to Gorilla is a great reason to head out to Pacifica, and the food in general hits the spot with decent sized portions. excellent service, but definitely a little pricey for the quality.
Best bbq Ive had in the bay area by far. Good value for the money, and worth the wait if there is a line. Definetly try out the brisket, you will not be disappointed. Keep in mind that all orders are to go only. They have no dining room.
This is the best BBQ Ive had in a while. Forget Dickies, Armadillos, etc... and go here. Its worth it. That being said, there is a decorum. They open for lunch and close when they run out food, which is usually around 2pm to 4pm. Most of the one star posters showed up late and were SoL.
Jesus the food here is good. Ive got the meat sweats and need a nap. The portions are so large that I, a fat guy, could barely put a dent in it. Get there early, its super popular.
Amazing bbq, great prices friendly staff. They are very generous with the amount of food and the meats are tender and moist and juicy. The bbq sauce is amazing and the sides are all delicious. They sell out fast most days and it’s usually got a line but worth the wait.
The ribs were so delicious, it fell right off the bone! The brisket was so tender you could cut it with your fork! And the links were amazing. So sad I didnt get to try the chicken.

Gorilla bbq is definitely one of the hidden gems of bay area bbq lovers. Yes, the wait can be long on weekends, but try to get there early (11am) and be guaranteed to get some great bbq. The portion size for bbq is pretty significant. Talking to the owner, a serving of brisket is 0.5 lbs! Thats quite a lot of bbq. Go on Monday or Wednesday for lunch and wait a few minutes tops.Slight smoky flavors permeate a well cooked brisket. Good bark in the central Texas style (salt and pepper only as dry rub). Brisket slices are a little on the thick side but still tender and holds up well to the pull test. Ribs are good, not disintegrating off the bone but still falls off when you want it to. Pulled pork is unctuous and delicious. Havent been able to try the cheesesteak yet.The sides are pretty good, I would recommend the mushrooms. Cornbread is great, rice and beans are a bit salty. Drinks are in the cold case.I would highly recommend visiting Gorilla. BBQ is very personal decision about what you like. If you like a solid bbq that requires little/no sauce, with a smokiness that wont overpower the meat, you found your place.
The line is a bit long since most people are getting it but the Barbeque pork was not bad. Its not the best in the world but I would totally recommend it (also never buy the Mac n cheese its probably one of the worst things ever)
Like many diehard DDD fans, I followed Guys advise and took a road out to Pacifica on a Sunday. I was told to expect a line out the front, so at 12:30pm, theyre were only about 10 people ahead of me - took about 20 minutes tops.Im disappointed there arent picnic tables out front or somewhere near the vicinity. I drove down to my usual spot in Half Moon Bay so my food had cooled off a bit.I got the two meat choice - Brisket and Hot links with cole slaw and macaroni and cheese on the side. The brisket was amazing, a few pieces with gristle but nothing I couldnt slice off. The hot links are indeed HOT but a welcome heat over the more savory options. Cole slaw is TO DIE FOR - retained the crunch of the cabbage and just right amount of sugar, wasnt mushy and made ahead like a lot of other places. The macaroni and cheese was MEH at best - I was really looking forward to this one but it was just crammed into a small styrofoam cup and lost the allure. Cheese flavor had a bite so you could tell they put in quality cheese varieties but the noodles were overcooked and just plain cafeteria-ish.My mom got the two meats as well - the chicken and ribs. I warned her that her ribs are better and not to get them - she agreed after eating them. The chicken was slightly pink at the bone so we saved that part and just microwaved later at home - was perfect by then added to a small salad. We both agreed the corn bread was pretty decent. OH AND THE PORTOBELLO MUSHROOMS ARE OFF THE HOOK!!! Grilled and fresh, they will definitely be ordered again.Best part actually is the BBQ sauce - by the end of the day, I had three little containers of it leftover in the fridge. I was making chicken sausage and vegetable stir-fry a few days later and thought why not, lets use the Gorilla sauce. OH SNAP! was it good.Ill give this place another try regardless of some of the so-so aspects.

I recently spent a week in Austin Texas tasting the highly recommended BBQ restaurants. Gorilla BBQs brisket, mac and cheese and corn on the cob is as good as any I had in Texas. It is a must try

All hype. Or maybe I went on a bad day. Either way, I dont think Id try it again anytime soon. Dickeys or even Kinders would be better than this place. Meat was dry and the sauce wasnt that great. Very pricey for what you get.
There are 2 good BBQ places in the area, Gorilla BBQ is one of them.This is a mans BBQ place, not for wussy people who cant stomach tons of MEAT. I got so much food when I went there it literally was spread out across 3 nights of dinner. And I can eat, just look at my sexy belly!They have a fairly diverse menu. Ive had most stuff on it, I will come again. Some places give you a big plate of bones and smother it with sauce, not this place. It is true they may need to add more sauce at home, at least they arent covering it all up so you cant see that you are getting a fair value for your cash.Anyway, if you want dinner from here, better get it early before it sells out. They are so extremely popular and for good reason. Its good friendly people doing their best to make good BBQ. They pull it off well.. Not excellent OMG that is the best in the world kind of good, but pretty darn good.The prices are reasonable unless youve been hiding under a rock for the past 3 years or are some silly poor person who whines that everything in the bay area is expensive.Speaking of whining, they didnt open for so long because they were fighting the dreaded city council all that time trying to get permits and crap like that. well nuff said ;) its unique, their storefront is an old boxcar, thats pretty wicked fun.Yay, Pacifica! Support local business! We need more restaurants. Maybe if enough people develop good places to attract tourism Pacifica will finally fix all those rotten potholes in Highway 1.

By far my favorite BBQ place . They cook the meats to perfection the mac and cheese is delicious just like all their sides. There is sometimes a wait and no seating area but, Gorilla BBQ is worth it.

Carnivores rejoice! This place has a menu to tentilize your pallet. The line moves quickly, but the supplies move significantly faster. They run out of food very early. Ive gone there at noon (on a day they are supposed to close at 8) and the food was already gone. Go early in the day or miss out on the awesome that is Gorilla Barbeque.

The best pulled pork sandwich Ive had in years. Just tried the cheesesteak, made with chunks of brisket. Blissful, amazing, one of the best sandwiches I can remember.
Simple and great quality BBQ. Made by people who clearly love food. Expect a line and be prepared if you are late in the day. Great BBQ takes time and therefore when they run out, its out for the day.

Brisket that melts in your mouth...sauce that you could just drink up if you didnt want it for luscious ribs (pork or beef). Varied choice of sides. Slow down and pull in to the caboose!

Very delicious bar b cue place. Love their mac and cheese. the only thing is that there is this place is to go only. Other than that I recommend this place if your in the area off highway 1 in Pacifica and catch them if they are open.
I was expecting Texas bar b Que and it fell short. The meat (ribs, brisket, and cheese steak sandwich ) was warm not hot. A little water vapor condensed on the meat . The ribs were a little greasy and undercooked.
I love thats its a drive-in Right near the Beach!! A good place to take friends and just go back to the spot for game night. Also right up the street is Pacifica Police Department so be Extremely careful making that U-turn off the road to get to Gorilla B B Q!! Any and everything on the menu is great....Honestly DONT ask me anything about the Vegan options although Im already prepared for googles inevitable interrogation about dessert & vegetarian menu options.....well what can I Do? Five Stars none the less @ Gorilla for all the Old School Carnivores out there!!!
Really good ribs, GREAT brisket (some of the best Ive had), and just a nice overall experience. Short drive from SF with some good scenery. Outdoor picnic area in a tree grove.
At Gorilla Barbecue I decided on a 1 meat option + beans and rice + 2 sides ($12.99). They only offer outdoor seating, but you’re practically sitting in a coastal forest under a canopy of Cypress trees where the spongey floor is a collection of conifer needles that naturally compost the bits of meat that fell off the corners of your mouth. It’s incredibly relaxing and satisfies our primordial instincts to gnaw flesh cooked on an open fire outdoors. The 1 meat plate had three ribs, pinto beans and rice, cornbread, corn on the cob and potato salad (I should have gotten zucchini instead of salad) and a little side of bbq sauce. The corn gleaked juice into the air when I bit into it, the glistening pink hued rib meat stayed on the bone when I greedily lifted it to my gob and yet pulled clean off into submission without a fight. The cornbread had kernels of corn but was a little dry. And that sauce was not unlike the one I make at home: thick, sweet spicy and tangy. I didn’t feel like I had been ripped off.
A hidden gem in Pacifica. Go early to avoid lines and be able to get their brisket before it rans out. The Ribs rock. My two favorite items.

It was just okay I didnt get the full flavor barbecue as I know it. The food was decent the macaroni and cheese was not as Im used to and had a very Tangy taste.
My mom was dropping off supplies for Santa Rosa evacuees today and the owner was up there cooking meals with Guy Fieri to help out those that have lost their homes or have been evacuated. Good guy.
Best BBQ in from a converted train car in a parking lot evah! Actually, it would be excellent even if they had tables. Brisket and ribs are like buttah. And they give you a lot.
Dont waste your time or money. I have gone there three times and disappointed all three times. If you think this is good bbq, you dont know anything about bbq. If it hadnt been for the Food Channel promoting this place, it would be out of business.
Great food! I got one meat combo with fast links, mushroom and eggplants. Everything in the plate is delicious!
Would give more stars but they close early and not a fan of the bbq sauce if you plan on eating here get there before noon or they might already be out of everything you want or closed and if you dont like watery bbq sauce that taste like vinegar bring your own fav sauce they serve the ribs dry so ypu can put ypur own sauce on them

Gorilla Barbeque was very good. We had pulled pork and brisket. Cornbread, potatoes salad and coleslaw and corn on the cob.
Its quick service. Great BBQ and the staff is absolutely delightful!!!! Prices are fantastic and like I said..... the food is outstanding!!!!
A-MAZING. So tender and tasty. Can highly recommend! Be aware that there is very limited seating so be prepared to take the food somewhere else to eat.
The only criticism I would give to gorilla BBQ is that on their website their prices are 25% less then what they actually are in the restaurant. Three-meat combo website 19.99 three-meat combo in restaurant 25.99 rack of ribs 23.00 website rack of ribs 30.99 in the restaurant.
My favourite bbq place in the bay area. Amazing ribs, chicken and pulled pork. I expected a bit more from the brisket. From sides, my favorite is macncheese.
Very good BBQ...sides are good....sauce is got a little kick....price is right.....bring your own chairs....and table....theres a line...but...it moves fast....

WELL WORTH THE WAIT!1/2 rack of ribs and brisket were super tender, the ribs were also fall off the bone soft. Both had a nice bark was nice and smoke ring shows how long it’s been in the smoker and the bbq sauce was a nice complement to the meat.Mac n cheese was flavorful, I think I taste Gouda and and a little heat from it. Very satisfying.Potatoe salad was creamy and light, good mouth contrast with everything we got.Corn bread made from scratch and has chunks of corn in it.Staff was very friendly and helpful. Cool little spot off highway 1 inside of an orange trailer.Waited 30ish minutes and spent $55 dollars for everything above plus a soda. Split between two people and had left overs. Worth it and would definitely come back.

2022-07-24 21:46:50Good ribs, not good cornbread, good portion, quick service and friendly staff. You order, pick up and can sit in your car and eat. Probably not the most healthy meal, but was good to try. The corn bread is made in a muffin style, very small, stale and dry, won’t recommend it.

2023-08-26 21:02:18Overall, the food was decent. I would come back for the meats and some of the sides.The ribs were tender, well seasoned. Brisket was pretty good, although some really dry parts. The barbecue sauce was good and helped with the dry brisket. The hot links were bomb, well seasoned and just delicious. Corn bread was delicious, can’t fault it. Potato salad was one of the best I’ve had. Mac and cheese was disgusting, super disappointing. The cheese had curdled and there wasn’t much of a taste. Rice and beans were also disappointing, no flavor or seasoning to it.

2023-07-28 20:27:41Great BBQ. Had the pulled pork and brisket. This is pretty much a take out joint so you can eat in your car, which some folks did, or take it to your home/hotel. Brisket was awesome. Also had their mac-n-cheese, which was crazy good. I am sure my cholesterol spiked but it was worth it.

2021-06-27 03:04:59This food is good. Got the pulled pork sandwich and the brisket sandwich and the meat was juicy and perfectly cooked. Saw this place on my way to Grey Whale Cove and saw the long line stretching down the street so thought it would be worth a gander and boy was I not mistaken. The sauce that comes with the sandwich has just the right amount of spice to it to really set off meat and give it that extra flavor. Got the last of the brisket and really glad I did because it was amazing, perfect amount of fat on the meatband bbq to perfection. The sides are tasty though I would recommend the potato salad the most had loads of flavor and no onions which is a plus for me. The cornbread is good comes in a little muffin though I wish it had been warmed and came with butter. The beans in rice was bland had no spices at all I guess I could have mixed in the sandwich sauce but hindsight always 20/20 right. They had a lot of canned beverages to choose from but I am most appreciative that they had Squirt as thats my favorite and most places dont carry it. Staff is great and friendly and the service is super fast by the time I finished my order the food was out in about a minute no joke, so if youre in the mood for BBQ or just good food in general definitely check this place out.

The pulled pork sandwich came on the softest roll, piled high with tender, smokey pork, and a tasty BBQ sauce on the side that was equally sweet and spicy. The perfect fit for the pork. Dont even get me started on the mac and cheese! I am definitely a cheese head, and this side was THE BEST Mac I have ever had! Creamy, rich, and savory sauce on fat perfectly cooked Mac, with the bread crumb crisp to finish it off. So good! The prices are high but reflect the quality of food (I paid about $15 for this combo and canned soda, but it could be easily shared between two people). There isnt any seating, but you are a short drive away from the beautiful Pacifica Beach where you can devour some amazing BBQ while watching the surfers glide by. 🤙
