I only did not want to give a good decent rating only because I believe it’s all about customer service, taste of the food and cleanliness when it comes to restaurants. We had made an order for the group and had asked if the meal came with rice, she said yes. She did not mention to us that it was the purple rice. When I was taking a picture of the menu, the lady had grabbed it with force instead of waiting for me to hand it to her. Some of the utensils were dirty and the plate too. It had like a hard residue. At first I thought it was water stains but as soon as I touched it to confirm, it was like a hard residue of something. We did not bother to say something because we were already uncomfortable from saying something before the food was even served. Overall, the price is a little high for me for the amount of food that we had. It’s good to eat in here if you don’t have a big appetite and you just want a little portion but if it’s a bigger group and you want to enjoy, I definitely do not recommend since it is not a buffet style (not unlimited) for the meats or the sides.

This is my first time coming to this location. The atmosphere is calm and relaxing. The food and the service is ok.The food here to grill yourself is expensive, minimum order to grill is 2 items and each item is over $29 per, not worth to come here and grill on your own. The food does taste good but pricey. A great place to grab authentic Korean food! We go about once a month honestly, the KBBQ and spicy army stew are standouts and we always leave feeling satisfied! Every meal comes with the sides (banchan) which is critical.

Really good first impression for this restaurant. Almost seat yourself and then menu and water came out quickly. Ordering was simple, they have numbers by every item to allow quick and simple order. One thing that I missed and wasnt followed up on by server was if I wanted something to drink other than water.Food was excellent and full of flavor. Heat level was good for what I ordered. Beef bulgogi was surprisingly sweeter than I expected. Spoon and chopsticks provided to eat, metal sticks I found slick and somewhat difficult to operate but my companion handled them fine.Overall definitely will be back and definitely recommend.

My favorite traditional Korean restaurant! Great food and great atmosphere. They always give you a lot of food which is awesome. Some portions are quite big so I recommend sharing like the Kimchi Pajeon. Also recommend going right when they open for lunch at around 11-12. Not many people and they are usually quicker to get your order out.

Overall the food is pretty good, but I recommend sticking to the tofu soups. The prices are high across the board, but the food is meh for many options other than the tofu soup. I prefer the mixed seafood tofu soup and have gotten it many times. I will say that the maximum spicy level is not super spicy if you have a good spice tolerance.

Not a fan. Everything was ultra salty. I even ordered a soju to rinse and wash it down. Ladies didn’t seem too please when I asked for more banchan because the food was just extremely salty and needed the bland to balance out. Will not be coming back. Not worth it unless you like ur food with extra salt bae on top 🤷🏻‍♀️ (coming from someone who’s been to Korea and multiple states and city 😅) I’ve had much better, take your business elsewhere 👀

Stopped in here for lunch with a friend on a weekend and we were seated immediately. We chose the Original Combo lunch (serves two) and split it. It came with three meats and all of the sides. Plus it also came with a tofu soup and two drinks. We managed to eat it all and we were pleasantly full! My favorite part about this place is that they came and kept track of cooking the meat for us. Yes, we had the Liberty to add more meat if we wanted or turn it ourselves but the lady who was sort of monitoring the dining room made her rounds pretty frequently and would come and turn our meat or place our meat. I appreciate it that she did the hard work and we just got to sit back and enjoy lunch. I would definitely return here. It was a great meal at a great price!

An intoxicating dinner despite having no alcohol, the food was simply amazing. The staples like the banchan and rice were a perfect compliment to the flavor bursting entrees. I ordered the oyster soondubu and gaejang (raw marinated crab) combo. This was my first time having raw marinated crab and it was so good once I started I couldn’t stop. I only really slowed down once I ran out of rice which I proceeded to get more of. The crab was spicy, fragrant, had a delightful bite to the flavor. The whole group was in consensus, this was better than the average Korean restaurant experience.

We went on Labor Day weekend at around 5pm and was able to get seats really quickly (there was 4 of us)! I ordered their seafood tofu soup with the highest spicy level (I believe it was just called “very spicy”). It was really good and I got an egg with it which I loved! It wasn’t that spicy though, definitely manageable but a little disappointing for me since I LOVE spicy.

Better rating is mostly for the food. Terrible service though. Very slow and inconsiderate older team members. The newer team member is nice and eager, but can only do so much without the proper guidance.Tables were dirty when we came. Had a bit of leftover spices and was sticky. There were two other tables eating beside ours.The new waitress introduced herself. It was her first day, but her service was superior compared to her seniors. Even when she was eating she still was eager and wanted to know if we needed anything. She was nice, but unfamiliar which was okay since it’s her first day. I felt bad asking her for things while she was on break, so I looked to her senior. I had to call more than two times when the senior passed my table to get her attention.The senior with the bright pink lipstick that was training the junior had terribly awful service. Extremely lazy and an expert at finding ways to escape work. It was her junior doing everything. From placing our order, bringing us tea, to closing out our check.Just a clarification, only the senior with the pink lipstick was awful. The other senior lady was nice and even asked how we were. The reason why I say the senior with pink lipstick is awful is because she finds shortcuts and had problems with her attitude.The bibimbap (mixed rice) that we ordered came but with no rice. They said we have to wait for the rice. By the time we are almost half finished with our other orders, the rice still hasn’t come so we gave them a gentle reminder.One of the side dishes only came with two pieces of tofu. That is fine. We finished it and asked for more. The senior came back and only put one piece in. She didn’t have a good attitude.I also asked for tea since it was a cold day. They gave me one cup for our whole table. Then for the rice pot, the store usually pours tea into it. I asked the senior and she said I could use the cup of tea on my table to pour instead. I looked at her bewildered and she responded that it’s the same tea they use to pour. I know that, but there wasn’t enough tea in my small cup to pour into the rice pot. This was just her being lazy. Other team members poured tea into the rice pot for me before.Lastly, I did not see an itemized receipt. They just took my card and charged it. I got to see the total at least…

This place is a bit pricy but the portion is huge. This place is like old fashion Korean food. Side dishes are very traditional. The bulgogi was marinated well, grilled decent & not too dry. Glass noodle and Korean Rice Cake was big for an appetizer. Personally, $17.99 for each wasn’t worth it since there were only veggies in it. They do charge an extra $4 if you didn’t order a dish per person.

The older worker is great. The younger one told us she was going to get the hot water and a separate bowl for the rice, but didnt do so until we asked again. It wasnt even busy so I would expect her to remember.The tofu soup is not good here. There was so little in it and the flavor was shallow.The biggest problem was with the clay pot the rice came in. It was in bad condition and so burnt flakes were falling into my rice. I picked some out. This seems pretty bad for peoples health.

At first the service was nice but we ended up asking to have a plate taken back since it wasn’t to our liking, the server said she “disagreed” with our taste which left us confused, we were left uncomfortable at our table feeling all eyes were on us and it was apparent that the server was talking about us to the others and proceeded to rush us out the door. I don’t know if there was a miscommunication and I even left a good tip since I genuinely felt bad (not to mention I came here to celebrate me graduating school) but just be mindful when you do order here.

Got the seafood tofu stew and I just really liked it. The small dishes are decent and I feel that they change the small dishes all the time. Nothing really stood out, but its just good comfoet food. I was there having early dinner alone after work yesterday and had a bad experience. I asked a little more of a side dish at the end of my meal and the waitress seemed very upset about it and showed her contempt towards me. I felt so humiliated and embarrassed by her attitude and facial expressions. She also said that this will be my last refill of the side dish as she brought a little bit of that to me. I didn’t even asked for that much more side dishes while there. I will have to think twice before going back there again!

I ordered a Yukgaejang which is supposed to be a spicy beef stew made from shredded beef and vegetables. For $20, I found one piece of thin-sliced beef of about 1 inch by 2 inch in the whole bowl. The side dishes were OK and the service was average given the restaurant was almost full. That actually really puzzled me. Are Korean beef really so special that people would be willing to pay 20 bucks for a beef dish that you barely could find any beef inside, or the cook simply forgot to put beef in my beef stew?

Ive only had traditional Korean dishes here, but so far everything Ive tried is delicious. You really cant go wrong. The kimchee pajun (kimchee pancake) is a must-have. So flavorful and extremely generous portion. The gaejang (spicy marinated raw crab) is always on point. Their banchan (side dishes) are the best out of any Korean restaurant Ive been to in San Diego. Blood sausage soup is so good. Kimchee chigae (soup) is so good. I try something new every time I go and so far, yummm!!! The service is okay if you go when its not busy, but if you go during busy times, its honestly the worst. But Im willing to sacrifice service for amazing Korea food.

I always hit this place up when Im in San Diego. The service is always great, and the food is even better! I love that they switch up the sides everyday. Its always fun to see which new side dish is going to appear on my table next. The only problem I have is with the parking lot. The lot is incredibly small to be serving so many businesses. We usually spend more time trying to find parking in the lot or on the street close to the restaurant.

This is my go to korean food spot. Aside from the tofu soup, they have a spectacular assortment of korean soups and other korean dishes. Don’t let kbbq be your only korean food you try. They do get a bit pricey, but the family soup meals with all the side dishes and rice do get you pretty filled up. Highly recommend this place!!

The best Korean restaurant in San Diego, hands down. They have the best soft tofu soup around plus banchan (side dishes) are aplenty, unlike so many other places where they bring out two or three then frown when you ask for more. If you have any special requests, just ask. If possible, theyll accommodate you with dishes they even dont have on the menu; just make sure to go early when the owner is there as hes the one who can help you with special orders. The food is just so amazing.

We have been to this restaurant many times and had a decent experience for the most part. However on the most recent visit I brought friends that were new to Korean food and the entire experience was very embarrassing. Food was served cold and servers were unapologetic. This place is insanely busy on Friday and Saturday nights and they clearly are incapable of handling crowds and serving quality food at the same time. In fact not a single dish that we ordered was tasty. This is a stark contrast to the dishes we have been served in the past. Tofu Stew was cold and bland and barbecue chicken lacked any flavor and was also cold despite being on a hot plate. I dont think well be going back.

Food was 👌. The 2 star is because they charged a share plate fee without telling us. My kids never finish their food, so I shared with them instead of ordering my own. The waiter did not say anything about the fee. If I knew about the fee, I would’ve ordered something and just take the leftovers home. Plus, we didn’t even order extra kimchi, water or rice. I appreciate how quick the food came, but I didnt enjoy the service with one of the waiters.My relatives decided to eat here despite not being familiar with Korean food. So I definitely understand that was frustrating for the waiters, especially the one who did not speak fluent English. I appreciate that despite my relatives confusion with kbbq and meals, she tried her best to suggest alternatives.At some point, one of my relatives wanted to leave, but we placed our order already. I was hesitant with this choice and asked the waiter if we were able to leave, but if not, we will happily eat here. She got frustrated, yelling at us that she already placed the order. I understand her frustration, but as she left our table, she cussed at us in Korean.What really bothered me the most was that when we were ENTERING our CAR, that waitress ran up to us for more tips. She said, 14 dollar tip? Thats it?? as she pointed at the receipt, demanding for more. My relative then gave her an extra five dollars.Im sorry, but I will never ever come back again knowing that any waiter/waitress could demand more tip and gossip behind my back (or my familys) in Korean.

I ordered two soon dun boo to go from this place. Considering past reviews, and my personal experience from years back.. I didn’t think twice about checking my food. I got to my hotel.. and found the most blend north with maybe three table spoon of beef, one green leaf scallion chopped, and perhaps half of tofu. Seriously? I could have bought instant soon so I better than this! Can’t began to express how upset I was with my order.. not to mention upset reaction from my kids. At first glance this is just your average Korean BBQ restaurant. The staff arent the most professional in my opinion, they are brief and do not serve all customers with a smile unless they speak Korean. I am guessing they are nervous but that still isnt an excuse to serve paying customers the way they do. The service is slow and I waited about 15 minutes to get water after asking 3 different waiters/waitresses for some. When I finally got the food I had ordered which was the Kimchi Pajeon (appetizer) and the Bibimbap which is beef, rice, and veggies served in a hot stone bowl. I was able to overlook the service after eating the food I was presented. The food definitely was able to somewhat satisfy my experience there. Do not go here with the expectation of good service because you will be disappointed. If you are going here just for the food then you will be very pleased, the food had a wide range of flavors exploding one after another. They give you sides which you can add on to your food for even more flavor combinations, the sauce they give you with the food (gachujang) is one of the most unique sauces I have had. It has some kick to it, think of it like a spicy ketchup. It was quiet unexpected to say the least to be served such amazing food. I will definitely be coming back hungry for more.

Absolutely amazing… pork bulgogi was tender, so flavorful. Beef short ribs (golbi) wow. I never write reviews on restaurants, but this place stood out. The rice was spectacularly sticky and comforting. Perfect food when balanced with Kim chi. What an outstanding meal.I got everything to go off their menu. Good authentic Korean food. Parking is difficult, you may have to park on Armour St and walk in, but there no wait times. They added some exterior pandemic patio seating but you can’t BBQ at your table if you sit there. Lots of menu items so you have a pretty good selection. Price is comparable to Convoy Tofu House.

Grandma Tofu and Bbq is a clean well ran machine.Pros: The service was prompt and courteous. The prices were reasonable.Cons: The only real complaint I would have is the side dishes are not the same for every table.Overall: My experience with my son was very good. I had the spicy pork soup and my son had the oxtail soup which were both well made and satisfied our Korean food desires. We would definitely come again.

I went here with a group of students. We were a table of 9 and I ordered one drink separate from the main bill. The drink was full of strawberry syrup not even mixed or well blended. It was supposed to be like a margarita blend. The drink itself was 16.99 but after tax it was $18.31 and then she included her own tip totaling $21.37 and would not remove it. The place was dirty. They serve tap water in dirty plastic bottles. I will never go here again.

We went to the restaurant on Easter, and were extremely disappointed. The restaurant looks clean when you sit down and feels very authentic. I went to the bathroom, and washed my hands and was very shocked when I noticed there wasnt any HOT Water, gross. It was turned off, and you can only use cold water. It made me worry about the sanitation and cleanliness of the kitchen and food we would be served. We ordered spicy pork and tofu soup, which also came with the traditional side dishes. All i have to say is everything was salty. The bonchon all tasted the same, and everything was overly dosed with salt. There wasnt much flavor in the food, and I wont ever go back.

We got some cold noodles, galbi and bibimbap. My wife said her child noodles were pretty good, but the broth wasnt clear enough. The galbi was flavorful but a little tougher than usual. My bibimbap was really good but the kimchi stole the show. It was perfect and a great blend of of freshness and fermentation. I even bought a large tub of it. Haha.

Im not going to lie the food is great, but I had this issues twice where their menu doesn’t explain things to a full extent and I asked the waiter and when I get the dish is not what I asked for. Instead of being asked if I want a replacement they give me the respond that I should of known what I was getting and I see that as very unprofessional because if I asked and you didn’t understand my question don’t give me a hard time about it and do nothing to replace or help me get an item so I can leave happy. They aren’t great at customer service and it has changed a lot now that they’re getting popular. Then i went back and the waiter try to make me feel stupid about what I was ordering because she remember that we had a misunderstanding last time I went. So this place is a no for me now.

This place is okay. The quality of their food is decent. Sometimes their side dishes have a old smell which indicates that they are not freshly made. Their soondoobu dish is their signature meal. I usually get the Mando version or pork. Those are good. My wife got the yookgaejang but she said the amount of meat was less than before or less than other restaurants. I would come back here if I was ordering just their soondoobu but I have to keep a close eye and nose on the side dishes. The service is relatively quick and polite.

They have hand sanitizer at the door, with adequate space between occupied tables, and they take your temperature with a no contact thermometer before seating you. Those are reasonable precautions and demonstrate a commitment to the safety of their customers and staff.If you are coming here because you are craving Korean food, especially tofu soup, they will meet your expectations. The bulgogi is noticeably sweeter than one would typically encounter, though not excessively so. Same goes for the japchae. Nothing wrong with any of it; just something to keep in mind if you have certain preferences for these staples.

Found a cockroach in the south east corner. Reading past reviews, this seems to be a persistent problem. Why not just get an exterminator?The food is great but not very consistent. My experience there today was less than mediocre.1. Ddukboki and bulgogi were super sweet.2. Soondae tasted like it was defrosted soondae, texture was rubbery, which got drier and drier as it cooled off.3. The lady who served us was rude. We asked how big of a difference was the medium and large soondae and she responded, of course there is a difference. The price is difference. My husband asked, so how big is the medium? How many can eat it. She said, how would I know, depends o how much each of you eat.4. Tofu soup came out 5 minutes later than everything else. Rice got cold as we had scooped it out of the rice stone bowl. Server said she had to send it back because the soup had too little broth. Yes, I ordered a combo and thus the small bowl and I get that, but its hard to imagine not having enough broth for such a tiny bowl.All in all, I dont think I will be returning.

I dont think theres a single vegetarian item on the menu, so even though TOFU is part of the name, dont expect any options for planteaters. I thought the soondubu soft tofu stews with vegetable menu titles would be vegetarian but not so. I asked if the mandu (dumpling) soondubu had vegetarian dumplings and the waitress told me there was meat also in the dumplings. When I ordered a different dish mushroom & vegetable soondubu, she didnt tell me its stewed with a bunch of seafood & thin sliced steak so I was pretty surprised when it came out!
