I wanted to buy some saplings and flowers here. But they had our flag hanging upside down which I found highly disrespectful and hence didn’t buy anything. I came back because I wanted to go inside and ask them to either hoist the flag the right way or not at all. When I came back the flag post had no flag. It was a Saturday 7 July. Very upset when people disrespect the country.
This is the best nursery in San Mateo County and beyond! How do I know? I started as a regular customer and I worked there, as well. Owner, Ron Mickelsen is a wonderful person and I’d love to work there again in the Spring!

Fabulous selection. Low price. We live in Santa Clara and HMB Nursery is our go to nursery. You can’t beat a walk on the beach, a wonderful meal at one of the many great restaurants, and a shopping trip at HMB Nursery for a great weekend (or weekday) outing.
Ive been to a lot of nurseries in California, and this is one of the nicest. If youre in the northern part of California, this is a must-see. Beautiful plants in a variety of hues. Customer service is excellent, and the rates are affordable.
Better selection more variety and more finds than box stores.
There arent a lot of options in the HMB area which is probably the reason this nursery is busy. As a few others have mentioned, folks who work here, especially the front cashiers are RUDE. They couldnt care less about helping customers. There arent people around otherwise to help. If you need to find something or need assistance with a heavy large tree. Forget it. Weve been to this nursery twice. We decided to go elsewhere.

The nursery had several different stores that carried a variety of different house and out doors plants. Very nice people and great prices on plants. Highly recommend this place.
Visited this nursery 4 times. Very poor customer service. Perhaps they generate too much revenue to care. I live nearby and there is no other option. I have acres, so Ive purchased a LOT of shrubs, trees, & other products to maintain & landscape the property. If I have difficulty moving the very large trees, or cannot find an item, this nursery doesnt provide assistance. Its also very difficult to exit as it sits on hwy 92. Ive purchased very little here due to the poor service. I visit another in Palo Alto & Watsonville. The one in Palo Alto (close to MV border) provides exceptional service. Ive purchased 5 fruit trees and 24 shrubs, roses, vegetables, and herbs. Finally decided never to return to the HMB nursery. Each time, I waste my time & exit with a bad experience.

Great place to buy plants variety is good and prices are decent. You can find ornamental, trees, fruit, veggies, tools of the trade, and even insects to help you in your garden! The cons, theres always traffic in the San Mateo Rd. Theres always a line to pay, not always carts are available and the owners are very busy they can barely help you with questions you have. But the place is great in general
Good selection of plants at times but several of the staff are not very friendly or willing to answer questions. The guy at the front desk once said he had to go make a call and help another customer so couldnt answer questions for example.
This place has THE worst customer service, especially if you’re Asian. I walked in to check out plants and trees, as we are thinking of doing major landscaping and clearing out old trees for new ones at our home. When I walked by the cashier area, the staff never bothered to acknowledge even with a simple hello, even after multiple times of walking by to see flowers. What made it worse was the amount of smiles and courtesies extended to people standing not even a few feet away from me. If you were wondering - yes those people were all white. If you’re Asian - spend your money somewhere else. Don’t bother with the racists who run this place. They obviously only care about the color of your skin.
Enjoyed the variety and size of the nursery. Customer service was good too. Only problem was I came two hours before it closed and I could tell they were low on a lot of plants. Come early if you want more options.
Great variety of plants at very reasonable prices. Lots of succulents including some hard-to-find varieties. Caution with the turn-in and parking lot—it can be very crowded, especially on a nice weekend.
Very nice and huge nursery on Hwy 92 on the way to Half Moon bay. They have wide variety of plants. Impressed with their Succulent collection. Very friendly and helpful staff, patiently answered our questions. Nice place to walk around and enjoy the plants.

Gigantic nursery with huge variety of selections! Most of the plants have written care instructions, but if not, the staff is very knowledgeable and helpful. It can be hard to track down staff due to the size of the place though. Parking can be a challenge during busy times but they have parking lots both to the right and left of the entrance. The plants Ive gotten here (petunias, basil, cilantro, kalanchoe) have all been very well cared for until I brought them home to die. But only the cilantro died mysteriously and almost instantly, the petunias and basil were simply unable to survive my inept gardening skills--and they managed to last for almost a year! The miniature kalanchoe is still going strong despite a few scares so I went back today to buy more. We arent in HMB area often but when we are, visiting this nursery is a must.
Great spot, lots of California native plants
One of my favorite nurseries, speaking of quality and choice. I especially appreciate that could find a variety of Gooseberry, black,white and red currant, and blueberries). And, of course, their roses are great! A little more pricy than HD nursery, but definitely worth to visit again and again.
This has got to be my favorite nursery of all time. Such an amazing collection and totally reasonable prices. They are part of the reason my home is overflowing with plants! Cant go to Half Moon Bay and not stop here. Just walking around is so calming.
I love this place!!!! Relaxing, good prices and nice staff. During winter is so great to have a warm apple cider with biscuits while you are looking around, shopping and enjoying an amazing selection of plants and pottery. You will have around some beautiful purr friends welcoming you. Highly recommended.
Outstanding collection of flowering plants, annuals, succulents, exotic flowers, fruit trees and much more... Very reasonably priced, some annuals are better in quality than in standard city hardware shops..
Fantastic and expansive indoor/outdoor nursery with cactus room, geranium room, hedges, ferns, interesting citrus trees... its got the works, top notch coastal style. Hummingbirds flying in and out of the rooms to visit the flowers. All the plant stuff youd expect of course. Looking for a specific variant? Pfft, they got it. Plus a friendly cat. Its all corrugated fiberglass roofing with tons of interesting overhangs. Its a really cool space. I absolutely must come back while it is raining to hear the magic.
Amazing nursery with a phenomenal amount of variety. The only problem with this nursery is getting here. Traffic can be a nightmare. Getting in and out of the parking lot is also a bit of a challenge. No traffic control on highway 92.Fun to just walk around, even if youre not looking to buy.

We love coming here. Great selection. Its worth the stop just to walk through the place for fun. They have a decent selection of herbs which are reasonably priced. We got our berggarten sage, epazote, peppermint and rue from here. Weve also gotten off-the-wall seeds here such as nettles, gourds and chrysanthemum greens. There are some seasonal food-plants too. We got 30 strawberry plants for $9 last winter, and now they are very healthy and productive.

Its a bit of drive to go all the way to Half moon bay to buy plants but if you are into gardening, this is paradise for you. The quality of plants is much better as compared to the ones from chain stores like Home Depot, Lowes and SummerWinds nursery. The perennials I bought from here are doing very well. The staff was helpful in answering any questions I had.
Best nursery on the Peninsula! They have almost everything, and the plants are well cared for and in beautiful condition. Ive never had a plant fail the minute I brought it home.

The plants were fairly priced the tiny succulents were only $2.25 with a huge selection! The plants were all taken care of and healthy! The restroom facilities leave somewhat to be desired but who cares because plants 😂❤️

Not much of a plant guy, but my girlfriend and I have made it sort of a ritual to come out here and visit on our off days. We always find a way to come home with something too. I wish it didnt close so early (closes at 5pm), but I guess thats what you get. Overall cool place to check out and reasonable prices if you decide to pick something up. Also, keep on the look out for hidden cats...
Lovely location with an expansive selection and friendly, knowledgeable staff. The majority of their inventory is made up of already established plants, but they also offer a wide, well-stocked array of seeds, soils, and pots.
Nice Selection of plants. I was roaming around exploring the different sections, and one staff member rudely told me I was in an employee section I was unaware since there were plants on sale on that section. Its nice but I dont like how the staff treated me.
Very good plant selection organized into coherent and useful sections. They have lots of types of plants I have never seen anywhere else, which is cool. Getting on and off of 92 from here is kind of difficult, but theres plenty of parking

Has a huge variety of outdoor plants, indoor plants, succulents, flowers, herbs, etc. They also have gardening tools, pots, etc. I love getting my indoor plants and pots here.
My kids would rate 10 stars if possible; very friendly and a huge selection! Kids loved the friendly cats lying around!:) A great place for us to buy a potted living Christmas tree.

HMB is one of the best nursery I have visited. Daffny (?) at the front desk is very efficiency in helping me on the phone when Im searching for the flowering plum. Daffny knew exactly which one Im looking for and she also came out to the tree lot to ensure they are still available before I made the trip there. I could not find these beautiful flowering plum trees for the last few months and thanks to David A. at Lisa Arnold Nursery at Sunol who looked at the picture of the flowers and gave me the scientific name (Prunus x blireana) of the flowering plum tree and now I found them at HMB nursery today. The price of 15 gallon flowering plum tree is very reasonable ($39.90). I also bought a 5 gallon King Fig fruit tree which is also $39.90. Daffny and her male colleague also helped us to load up the two tall trees into our car. I will definitely visit this HMB again soon.

I had to get a replacement for a rose bush that dropped dead for no discernible reason. Brad was the guy I talked to about it and I have to tell you, and his mother, that he is the best guy in the world. I have always thought that the nursery itself is beyond beautiful, what with dogs and cats and opera.What killed the first rose is a mystery but the replacement will be beautiful-loud and blousey and just this side of vulgar! Lots of plants, parking could be challenging in the weekends. i would give it 5 star if DOGs are allowed (the only nursery in the bay area i have been to that doesn’t allow dogs).

2023-04-16 22:04:42For day to day garden plants I usually go to Cupertino Summer winds or Yamagami. Theyre both very nice nurseries. But sometimes I want something out of the ordinary and Half Moon Bay Nursery fits the bill. They offer varieties not typically available. For instance today they had pansies golden in color with dark stripes which are very striking in appearance. I enjoy walking around and exploring the plants every time I go there.

2018-08-02 20:08:52One of the best nurseries in Bay Area with huge selection of plants. There are lots of parking spaces in the front and it’s a pleasure to walk through the various sections of plants. Kiwi, bamboo, banana, apple, tropical foliage, you name it, they have pretty much everything. Prices are reasonable. Only little downside is that location is along the main road to Half Moon Bay so traffic can be a pain during the weekend.

2021-04-16 00:18:18This is my favorite Nursery to go to and I live in Santa Clara. I love this nursery and I love how the kitty cats run around it and let everybody pet them. Their flowers, trees, shrubs, and everything in the place is very high quality. However I have noticed that in the past they had very unique flowers that were unusually beautiful. Now it just seems like its more of a Home Depot or Lowes kind of feeling with their products. They also have become very very expensive. But you are paying for quality flowers.
