The food at halves is wonderful: high quality meats, fresh veggies. The atmosphere leaves something to be desired for the price though. I would like to go back again, but it’s date night menu prices, but doesn’t have a nice restaurant feel. I wish they would make it more comfortable, with comfortable seating, etc. we spent $120 (including tip) on 2 people, with the halves menu, and 1 drink each.

We went to this place for dinner on a week night and they were pretty busy. I love the hot pot and grill combination. The miso and spicy miso broth were very tasty. The meat and seafood were fresh. We ordered the Angus beef, beef short rib and the seafood platter. The seafood comes with a lobster tail, salmon, shrimp and mussel. Each order comes with a both of vegetable, Udon white rice or brown rice. The dipping sauces were very good as well. Overall, we had a great meal and will definitely be back.

What a fantastic concept! Both shabu and japanese BBQ at the same time. The quality of the meat and veggies was great. They had some really tasty dipping sauces that worked we with both the shabu and the jbbq. Our server was very accommodating and we had an overall great time. I will definitely come back soon 😁

Went to a cool-looking restaurant, but they didnt explain how things worked. Staff didnt care when I asked, just shrugged and smirked. Food and place were okay, but bad service ruined the vibe. Wouldnt recommend for a nice night out. Terrible staff. Terrible customer service!

Food its very good. Staff its very friendly and willing to help you cook if you cant do it or dont know how to. Food could be a bit pricey. Its definitely not a place where you could eat multiple times a month, too expensive, keep that in mind.

This place was delicious, we had Shabu this night but they also have a grill for unbelievable bbq right at your table. The wagyu is unreal but you can’t go wrong with the signature NY and black angus rib eye either. Be sure to try the Japanese fried chicken appetizer it’s the best around.

My nephew treated and ordered for us. It seems simple to just boil or grill the meat and lobster tails. The meat is very very tender. They are surprisingly delicious with the sauce. Everything ordered tastes great. Highly recommend.

This is always a favorite for birthdays and the like. If you like to take time on your meals, this is the place to do it. In an average order, there is enough stuff to boil for up to an hour. Always good quality ingredients and the seating is very nice.

First time. Went to celebrate a special birthday and was choice of birthday boy. Fun night. Food was good. Service no so much. Once we were served never saw our server again. They were too busy cleaning up to close even though they had an hour to go yet. Not too busy which was nice since they dont take reservations but we were seated immediately. Enjoy your night there. I like the design to allow you enjoy pot and grill at the same time. The table we sit was for two persons and it’s design separates two persons quite apart. I think it is good design for pandemic occasion and also good to avoid accidental split from the pit or grill.The food is good as well.

Cook it yourself shabu and grill. Be careful what you order, it adds up quick. Service was fine, servers check on the table frequently and adjust the burners. Its not convenient to have parties of five or more, the tables are generally set up for four, or the bar. They have high chairs for the kids, but its not really a kids place. Its in a strip mall with acceptable parking.

All I can say is what an experience! Very good and fresh food, that had a really fun environment and music. The pork and beef we extremely fresh and tender, while the cooking stew was very flavorful. Our server was amazing too! We loved her personality and service. This is a must to visit of youre looking for a place to eat.

This place is a true hidden gem. It’s our favorite local restaurant to have date night. It’s like a Shabu type spot, but with the grill in addition to the pot (hence the “halves”) with gourmet meats, veggies, broth and delicious sauces. The Staff are super cool and do a great job teaching you how to properly prepare the food (it took us a few times to learn!) I wouldn’t recommend bringing kids as this is a very hands on dining experience so you don’t have much ability to care for the little ones while eating here. We are hoping it survives Covid bc I don’t know what I’d do without this local favorite hot spot.

Great concept for putting grilling and hot pot in one serving. I felt like having Japanese style hot pot one day and did some research, halves had great review so I decided to give it a try with my friend. Very clean set up, great layout, the bar with liquor and TV set, great atmosphere.We arrived in a weekday afternoon, not so busy, waiter came immediately, extremely knowledgable, very patient, explain all my questions for ordering. I decided on the seafood combo with lobster tail in it. The order came very quickly, very big portion, great representation. Waiter suggested we grill the seafood and hot pot the meat due to freshness reason. Great idea, the soup was great after putting the soups and veggie along with the meat. Super tasty! Seafood is very fresh, they gave you their special butter for grilling, smell very good when grilling.My friend order some extra beef, it was pretty soft, we were stuffed when we are done.We were left very full and super satisfied, at the beginning, I had some doubt about eating this way, but afterwards, feeling like you have so much varieties. Price is not cheap, but very fair for what you get.Highly recommended, will go back again for sure.

Edit: revised from 5 to 2tonight my wife was sick and she still wanted Halves. Went on line and the online ordering through services was an absolute nightmare. Cannot order a simple Mongolian spicy pot... Tried calling in like their website and Google says you can, and was refused. The people working there actually refused to take an order over the phone, said online only to go. So I asked if I could come to the store and order, was told I could not order to go food inside the restaurant.We were in shock.. I have a sick wife with a craving for their Mongolian spicy hot pot and now we are doing Udon from elsewhere.I have never had this kind of response from any restaurant anywhere. We have gone here like once every 2 weeks for a long time... And now, not sure if we will ever go back, no matter how good the food is.Sorry, but just horrible customer service guys.----------We have been meaning to try this place since the day they opened many years ago, but for some reason we just never got the chance... Boy did we make a mistake.Halves is hands down one of the best shabu/grill concepts I have ever visited.I personally am more a fan of Chinese hot pot over shabu shabu mainly because I have always felt that shabu shabu broth just doesnt have much flavor... Halves completely destroyed that belief. I had the hot Mongolian and the wife had the tonkatsu(?). Both were good enough to actually drink the broth. Decent spot that is pretty pricey for what it is. The whole point of the place is shabu/grilled meat. The meat quality was good, but the broth was eh. I would rather go to a legit shabu spot for good shabu, or a kbbq/jbbq spot for good meat. This place does both those things, but are both meh.update: My review still stands. Amazingly good Asian cuisine- kinda like Melting Pot, but only in the way that you cook your own food.Its a place that needs to be tried out first hand, the experience in itself is a big part of what makes this restaurant a great place to go- it makes eating a meal a great social event because you have that time while cooking that you can talk to whoever youre with without having food shoved in your mouth.Also the food is amazingly tasty and good for you on top of it ;)

Noticed they add 18% gratuity even on bill of two person then there is another field asking for tips and they suggested 18%, 20% or 22%. I understand some restaurant add tips to part of 6+ people but many of them will remind you when they hand the bill. So be careful you dont pay something like 40% tips:)。Updates: Manager replied and blamed their waiter processed the 2 people order as 6+ people by mistake. Not very convincing as the restaurant only has 2 seats and 4 seats table. And friends of mine saw the same problem with their 4 people bill. Plus there are 3 other reviewer posted questions about same bill issue here on Google.

As was recommended by our server, the highlight to this place is the ability to split your dinner decision and take your dinner in two well portioned halves: 1/2 Shabu Shabu bowl AND 1/2 Grilled Meat or Fish and Veggies bowl. The Shabu broth is not as tasty as some others but we found the staff to be much more friendly, attentive and appreciative of our business, than some places. Do not order the Japanese sausage. Sounds intriguing but it is just 5 or 6 mini hot dogs in a very nice presentation.

Second time eating at the restuarant. 1st time was great. 2nd time 1 star. Another party was sat before us because the host misread the waiting list. Then he sat us before the family that was waiting before us. The server Ted would not give us a extra pot for my two kids to share. Its a pot and water!...??? He also was not very nice when explain why. And did not come back to our table to ask if we needed angthing. Very disappointed. The only good thing was Mike the other server who was very nice and checked on us constantly. They also brought us the wrong check!! Halves gets it name from serving half shabu shabu and half Japanese bbq. For shabu, their tonkatsu broth is just amazing and delicious, nice and rich. Any meat will do, just depends on how much you want to spend, they have waygu, Kobe, and expensive Japanese beef cuts. For three bbq, I tried the pork butabara which pretty much taste like bacon.... so its amazing. Nice atmosphere to hang out and take your time with dinner. Decent prices on pitchers of beer and house hot/cold sake.

Maybe this restaurant can make a go of it. the previus Vietnamese place here was really good too.The wait staff here is great. They can get any novice up to speed in no time. I had a 50/50 or whatever they called it. It was half shabu shabu and half grilled meat. I actually got it backwards and grilled my shabu and boiled my grillable meat. and it was still great. ( I think my way was better). Here they had a Saporo on tap. it was fabulous, so icy cold!

All they have to do is put some raw meat on a plate (its a bbq-it-yourself place). How can this take 1 hour? And 15 minutes to pour a drink.
