Hana Izumi Japanese Kaiseki Food in Millbrae

Casual atmosphere for refined Japanese food prepared with a lot of care and love. In a great way, it feels like youre at someones home! Flavors were quite subtle, ingredients were super fresh and we loved the diversity of the menu. Also enjoyed the Sake flight.

Japanese Kaiseki was sooo delicious 😋... service was extraordinary and ambiance was welcoming, calming, relaxing. I had just come back from an awesome summer trip to Japan and this restaurant brought back wonderful memories for me. Will definitely be back.

Hana Izumi is like taking a little trip to Japan only its in Millbrae . We enjoyed an amazing Kaiseki meal during their soft opening. They officially open Jan 17.Every bit of food was amazing. The fish was fresh and the meat cooked perfectly. The veggies were amazing too. Chef Koji-San has cooked at amazing places like Sanraku and Kitcho.The service was amazing. We cant wait to enjoy this treat of a place over and over.

The overall taste is good, homemade desserts are a surprise. But the grilled yellowtail and the main course Chirashi bowl were a bit disappointing. The service is good, very attentive.

We had both kaiseki and sashimi lunch. The waitress Lunar was so attentive and nice to our 14 mo son.I’d definitely recommend this place for someone who’s looking for a legit Japanese restaurant:)

The Japanese Kaiseki courses at this restaurant were excellent as I enjoyed the old Japanese style!My favorite dish on the September menu was a bowl of rice topped with toro. I think it is even more enjoyable with sake or fruity sake!Maybe next month I will be able to go again.

Its everything we expected from kaiseki dinner in all the best ways. Chefs skills are superb and service was wonderful. We cant wait to come back!

This is a hidden gem! Owners Koji and Luna have opened a spectacular kaiseki restaurant worthy of the Bay Area dining scene. Everything from the menu to presentation of food, the level of service to the dish-ware, have been planned with great thought and attention. Chef Koji elevates simple food to new heights coming from a Michelin star-like kaiseki restaurant back in Japan. Homemade delicate tofu with a uni sauce base. Or a bite of raw fish with paper thin tiny cucumbers seasoned in a light yuzu soy sauce. Filet mignon slices surrounded by a delicate lake of onion butter. And some of the best sashimi this side is the Pacific Ocean. They even have kid friendly kaiseki meals with my picky kids saying it was the best food they ever had - simple yet delicious soba noodles, miso soup, rice with marinated filet mignon slices, plain chawanmushi, and shrimp tempura. And speaking of shrimp, I can never go back to eating shrimp tempura at any other restaurant. Giant shrimp perfectly coated with a mouth pleasing crunch, and without the hint of grease. Grab a seat now before word gets out and this place becomes one of those hard to get reservations!

Their Omakase course is not only tasty and fun but very thoughtful. Especially the way chef prepares proteins are exceptional. The service is very thorough and kind. I would definitely come back again.
