Hana Japan Steak House serves dishes cooked in the Teppanyaki style (grilled on a metal table) in front of us and served. We enjoyed a Birthday Celebration with grandkids. We ordered Mai Tai, Plum Wine, Saki Sampler, Apple Juice for drinks and meal comprised of Fried Rice prepared in front of us by Chef Phillips with our choice of Chicken, Jumbo Shrimp, Salmon, Lobster, Steak and Scallops. He also kept the children entertained with his acts. They presented us a Pineapple shape cake as Birthday gift. The cuisine was delicious with large helpings. The staff are great and helpful.

The food is delicious, and the staff is amazing, HOWEVER, you should know about the lovely bartender Elena: She makes her own sour mixes from scratch, and crafts a Tito’s gimlet that is simply out of this world. Just spectacular. A delightful surprise, indeed. Endorsed!

Great experience and even better food!!! It was a recommendation from a work friend and glad we took their advice. Service was outstanding and extremely efficient. They did not miss a beat! Only down side its kinda dark but I might not have good eyesight 😂.

What an awesome place. It was a bit of a wait. Our reservation was for 7 and no one came to the table to cook till 745. But... the staff apologized for the wait and they were nice. The cooks were great, the food was delicious. I ordered lobster and shrimp! Delicious. They had a lot of fun drinks too. The place seems a little outdated but there is lots of parking and maybe another location in Berkeley closer to me. I will be super excited to go back for the birthday deal! Oh and the wings were delicious!

I met some old friends here recently and we had an amazing time! The woman who was fulfilling the host role(I regrettably do not remember her name but she was a beautiful lady with a radiant smile. I *think* she is the owner, but Im not certain. It was hard to hear!) was so kind and gracious, and our chef made things fun and exciting but we still felt we could catch up with each other during the meal. Our food was cooked precisely to order and was so tasty Ive been dreaming about it since. The portions were huge - enough that I stuffed myself there and still had plenty for lunch the next day.Its not inexpensive, but I definitely didnt expect that it would be. Its a really nice special occasion place and Ill definitely be back!

I paid way too much for what I thought was going to be Ribeye steak off the menu to go. When I got to my hotel, I saw that they chopped it up like hibachi!! I was not happy. Everything seemed high priced, and I did not sit at a hibachi table, but it did not look very nice inside the restaurant.

I would give 4 stars, I felt they do have opportunity to improve.One thing that was good was the quality of food. Definitely nice portion of stake, prawns specifically if you are ordering the Combo.Single dish would be for people who would like to eat less.Price wise they stand as one of the top class 5 star restaurants but neither food not service is up there.Don’t take me otherwise, food is good but definitely far from excellent. A lot of butter is added to make it tastier but that is not Teppanyaki unfortunately. The tricks by the waiter would not impress you if you have been to any other Teppanyaki place. Even if you are visiting 2nd time, the tricks would be the same as I saw the exact same tricks on the next table.

Our second time visiting. Loved the show that our chef put on for us. Blew what Benihana had to offer out of the water. The food was good overall. Their ability to handle all the food allergies or intolerances in our group of ten was absolutely outstanding! We so appreciated all the extra time and care put into preparing our food. No one ended up in the ER or with follow up stomach issues which is a near miracle when dealing with issues in the group spanning diabetes, Celiacs Disease, tree nuts, shrimp, eggs, and onion allergies all at one table. Kudos to all for a job well done! We arent locals, but will certainly be back when were visiting in the area again. To those who had issues with service, aside from a couple overlooked drinks that were promptly delivered when we brought it to their attention, we didnt experience this issue at all.

As far as dinner goes, the food wasn’t terrible. But what bothered me was we went with our three year old who doesn’t eat that much and they made me order a meal for him. So we had to spend extra money for no reason. The waitress told me he has to order something. We went there because my husband and I wanted it. If you’re telling me, we need to order a meal because he is occupying a chair then say that and I would’ve had him sit in my lap because that is absolutely ridiculous.

Hana Japan is worth going at least once in your life. Teppanyaki grills dont always the best quality but at least the food is hot, fresh, and fun to watch. Hana Japan has both high quality food and very talented chefs. At this price range ($31 for a plate of steak, salmon, vegetables, and fried rice) its worth the show. Come here with a bunch of friends and youll have a great time.

Hana was exactly like benehana. About 10 seats around a hot grill with chef show while cooking. Beef,chicken,shrimp,and lobster, with steam or fried rice. You can order appetizers drinks and fish as well. They dont take reservations so are party of 30 people all had to be there to get seated. Had wonderful ❤️ time

I love this place and frequent here often. I was taken aback when we couldnt celebrate my daughters 12th birthday because it was outside of the time frame for birthdays. Its July 10th, her birthday was July 2nd. They give you one week. No exceptions. Had I known her birthday couldnt be acknowledged I wouldnt have came with my party. Very disappointed. And we have a party of 13. I just expected more, maybe an exception. Dont come on the 8th day if you want to celebrate your birthday!!

Traditional Beni-Hana type restaurant. Families have been coming here for years to be entertained by the chefs who prepare the food in front of you. Who doesnt love seeing the onion volcano? you are seated family style, so if its intimate conversation your after, dont go here. But if your up for meeting others who love the food, go for it. The filet minion and grilled shrimp is my favorite. Others seated with us ordered Lobster tails, scallops and the New York Steak. Everything we ordered was delicious, and looked delicious. Always entertaining. If youre with kids, have the order the Japanese soda, they wont be disappointed.

What a horrible Mothers Day experience! We were actually put out of the restaurant by a loudly yelling manager. They were rude and condescending and I almost feel like they were prepared for confrontation the minute we walked in--we were a large party of 24 black family members. The first problem was seating as they crammed us all in an area too small for our group. Then it was my niece wanting to split a meal between her 2 little ones and was told to buy the meal or pay $15 sitting fee. So they decided to leave, then 4 more people had also decided to leave and it was then that we were loudly and rudely told to GET OUT! All of you leave now!. Never again will i visit this establishment. NEVER! You dont yell at customers. I really wish I would have recorded her. Just bad business.

We waited 30 minutes for a table with a reservation and then an additional hour at the table waiting for a cook. Place is a little run down and management was almost indifferent to our complaints with no offers of discount or freebies to try and compensate us for the wait. Food was good though. We had reservations, but were still told to stand outside in the cold until they had room for us. My girlfriend and I traveled well over 100 miles to to see family and take care of crucial career/life matters. This seemed like the perfect place to bring family and friends because of the show and great food. Being from So Cal I expected this place to be just like the other ones, but unfortunately I was sadly mistaken. The shrimp were not deveveined and the meat was not of good quality. They used way too much salt and tried to compensate with a below average performance. I hate leaving bad reviews, but this place makes the list. If decveining shrimp is too difficult of a task, imagine whats really going on there.

Great Food, Long Wait Despite ReservationsThe food at Hana Japan makes it worth revisiting time and time again. I would say usually Id give the restaurant 5 stars, but this time in particular the story is that 2 chefs were out sick. So on the Friday for which we had reservations at 6:30 PM, we didnt get seated until almost 7:30 PM. Despite the wait, we could tell everyone who was being seated behind schedule was enduring the wait. That should tell you that the rest of the experience is worth the inconvenience.Again, despite the pressure of being behind schedule, our chef was entertaining and funny, and made sure we didnt miss out on the interactive experience that the restaurant promises.You will probably be full from the amount of food you get at dinner, but in case you have some cracks to fill in, you can ask for a dessert menu. Hana Japan usually brings the pineapple boat for a birthday celebration, but you can also order a variety of ice creams or macaroons (like an ice cream sandwich).If you go to celebrate a birthday, youll receive the birthday meal for free (up to a certain value) if the birthday is within the week, and if you have a party of 4 or more. Its a fun tradition in which to participate.

The service was excellent, from walking in the door to packaging leftovers, the staff is very attentive.The soup, could use a bit of flavor, adding soy sauce helped. The salad was fresh, my pet peeve is that the dressing is always served in a small gloop, on the side of the bowl. Sadly visit 2 was not a good experience. Almost an hour wait at the table for the chef to come. When he finally came, he didnt entertain the table beyond the volcano onion... He just quietly cooked. Even the eggs that all the chefs crack at the start of the cook were premixed in a bowl. We also had kids sitting right in the middle seats, excited for the cooking show. He messed up some of the order too, so some people didnt get rice and my chicken fried rice got split unnecessarily. He also laughed when he put twice as much butter across all the food. So even quality was below par. The restaurant adds a fixed 18% tip, which makes this situation awkward... You are forced to pay it, even when a situation like this happens. I think all 3 parties at our table were underwhelmed tonight. Not sure well be back.

1st visit to Hana Japan (Dublin) in almost 20yrs -- place has REALLY fallen off.Food quality was SUBPAR:Shrimp werent cleaned/deveined.Scallops were ridiculously small.Filet seemed more like Top Sirloin.Veggies consisted of mostly Onion (abt 50-60%), Carrots and Squash.POORLY cooked Teppanyaki style:Squash was mush while carrots were under cooked.Lobster and Shrimp were chewyScallops were mushyChicken was over cooked.Cook Show was weak -- high point was twirling utensils at start? Volcano failed to burn, there was no attempt to toss food for customers to catch in mouth and chef haf ZERO personality.Throw in basically unattentive service and a complete lack of A/C that turned the table area into a Sweat Box and weve decided, sadly, it will be our last visit to Hana Japan.

I think all in our party enjoyed the food. Didn’t ask where it came from etc. my complaint is w/ cleanliness. We arrived at 4 when they opened, staff SO great; but menu’s were greasy & when I went behind hostess stand to toss my gum, the area smelled badly of mold. The bathroom doors don’t close (there are 2) in woman’s br. & the paper towels to dry were empty upon opening at 4. They need to hire janitors who will do deep clean & spruce up bathrooms.

The cook lacked confidence from the beginning, as he began with the knives I felt I needed to be on the defense to avoid being struck. Also can tell the owner of this restaurant is “milking this cash cow” by not investing in the restaurant; the bathroom was pretty gross for a restaurant charging these prices. Chairs and dining room doesn’t look like any upgrades or $ has been spent in 20yrs+. Fortunately went on a birthday and got free $33 entree otherwise would have been a rip off w/ out the free entree. My boss threw our company party here and it was amazing! There were four chefs at four tables putting on an amazing show! It was also my daughters birthday and she received a free meal! If I could leave them no stars, I would. My partner made a reservation for only the 2 of us, ON MY BIRTHDAY, at 9pm via Google. We were driving in from Lodi so about an hour 20 mins. They called to confirm our reservation on the road and when we got there (on time), we were refused service by the blonde lady behind the bar. She told the host to ask the cooks if they felt like turning their burners on to serve us and they said no. I called and spoke with the manager when they were finally available (2 weeks later) and he said hewill make sure it doesnt happen again. Not much of a help and didn’t really make me feel better at all. Based on their first impression, I wouldnt come back or ever recommend.The service alone was trash.

Food was okay (I’ve had better), service was somewhat slow, and I don’t like the fact they automatically charge 18% service fee to all parties no matter the size. I order 5 meals (chicken and shrimp) came up to $180 or so plus tax, and an additional $30.46 for the service fee charge, making the bill come up to $220 and some change. That’s basically the price of another meal. I used to eat here frequently before the pandemic and here and there through out the pandemic, but I just can’t stomach the fact of that 18%. It’s an automatic tip being imposed, and it’s not disclosed on their website prior to making reservations. In my opinion I feel that information should be provided on their website not come by surprise when you visit. Not that I have a problem with tipping, but it should be based on the factors of the food and service provided, not obligation.

I went the day before Valentines and it wasnt too busy. The main dishes are whatever meat you choose, rice (white or fried, chicken, or shrimp fried rice) and veggies. They cooked the food right in front of us and added regular and garlic butter. The food was AMAZING! The staff was really nice and attentive, too. Let me start off by saying the food and chef were great, no problem there. I don’t like giving negative reviews but what my family and I went through needs to be shared. Everything seemed to get to a good start until I mentioned that we had a birthday in our group. Our waiter, Jesus M, told me that I would need to provide photo ID…for a TEN year old! He said it wasn’t his policy but no exceptions. Photo ID with date of birth. Annoying but we complied, luckily we could access school portal that had picture and date of birth.After our meal as we waited for the check, we started to wonder if they forgot about the birthday. When Jesus M finally brought us the check he pointed out the birthday discount. Ok cool but when I asked about the slice of cake with a candle that I saw another table get when we arrived, his response was that they were too busy. Too busy? To serve food? At a restaurant? I really didn’t care for a discount. I wanted to end the dinner with a happy birthday song for my daughter. Our party would have sung to her ourselves. All we needed was a dessert which Jesus M didn’t even offer! Which I couldn’t even ask for because he walked away.We spent a long time waiting for refills on our drinks. An absurd amount of time for our check. It would be preposterous to try to get his attention again to ask for a dessert or to voice my frustration at his insensitive attitude. Thank you Jesus M for staining our awesome Father’s Day/birthday celebration. Just a little empathy on your part would have made the whole experience worth while.

We used to go there in the early 90’s.There were some waitresses there named Soon and Young Hee. They were from sisters from Korea and they were the sweetest girls. We are regular weekly customers here. We love this place and specifically this location. Normally our food is really good. Today, our cook didn’t interact at all and we had guests from Canada that we brought. Hoping they would be entertained. My steak was cut in huge chunks and undercooked that I almost choked. I didn’t even bother finishing the entire steak. I love the other chefs. They are truly amazing and all staff is attentive. Drinks are good, pours are great too!

My Wife and I were looking for a teppanyaki over the weekend but did not want to drive all the way to SF. So we found this place in Dublin and it did not disappoint! Located in a plaza where theres a pho restaurant on the corner of dublin blvd.When we got there, the place was busy! The hostess greeted us and we told her that we did not have a reservation for the night. She quickly accommodated us and we begun to enjoy our Saturday date night. We ordered the surf and turf and it was amazing. The staffs were friendly, the food was delicious, and the price was better than Benihana. Definitely coming back here again!Highly recommend booking an appointment and coming here for a great show and food.

This is one of my favorite restaurants to visit. The chefs that cook at the tables are all friendly and engaging with patrons and make it a great experience. The rest of the staff rank just as high being very friendly and accommodating to anything we may need. The tables are always clean and make for a comfortable place to dine. Its expensive to eat here, but hands down, the fried rice is the BEST and make it worth the visit.

This pains me to post. I have been to Hana for so many birthdays and I have always loved the food, the staff, and have even leaned to tolerate the smell of our clothes after a visit. But tonight they lost my business. I asked for a gluten free chicken entree to be cooked in the kitchen, not on the grill where everything else is cooked with soy sauce, which contains gluten. They assured me that the grill would be completely cleaned and gluten free. And then proceeded to cook the chicken on the same grill where the fried rice had been smothered in soy sauce just a minute prior, where the rest of the entrees were cooked with a splash of soy, and with the same utensils the entire time. All I asked was to cook the chicken in a clean pan, in the back kitchen. I can only imagine what would happen to someone with a shellfish allergy.

We normally love coming here for celebrations and family dinners. Tonights visit wasnt the best. We had a newer chef (1 1/2 years). He wasnt very into the connection with the people at the table. Then when we got the food, it was rough. Fried rice had been cooked on the hottest spot on the grill for too long, so it had the burnt flavor and not much else on flavor. The chicken was rubber, as well as the shrimp. The steak and veggies were cooked perfectly tho. So maybe it was just a bad night... We will visit again, but with requesting Moggie. Today is my Wife and Sons Birthday, 5 kids and 4 adults. My Brother ordered a drink from the bar and the bar tender and waitress did not get his order right. Never the less, he said he did not want his drink and wanted to order something else. We almost didnt go here because of some of the reviews but were really glad we did. We were looking for a Benihana style restaurant and this was a great choice. We made reservations and got in right on time. The chef was very friendly, outgoing and entertaining. Everyone at our table really liked their food. Its very similar to Benihanas but the portion sizes seemed much larger. I got the steak and shrimp and I had a lot left over.To address a few of the issues I read about. I didnt notice any bad odor. Its a restaurant and they are cooking out in the open so there are a lot of different smells but nothing bad that I smelled. The place was a little hot but once again, when they are cooking at the table, its going to be a little hot. No one was sweating or uncomfortable though. Lastly, is the price. Both of us had the steak and shrimp and one cocktail. The bill was $98.00. Its not cheap, but its about average for this type of restaurant.If you like this type of restaurant I would recommend it.

My mother-in-law and children really like Hana Japan so today we all decided to go as a pre-celebration for my husbands birthday. We had a 5:30 reservation and were seated immediately. The restaurant was pretty busy. The hostess was very nice and greeted me by my first name. It was our servers fifth day on the job and she was very attentive and made our experience great. Coincidentally it was our Cooks first week and he also did very well. In our party we had ordered salmon scallops steak cooked at different temperatures shrimp and chicken all of these items were cooked to perfection. We had the shrimp and mushrooms as appetizers and we also had the potstickers they were great. My husband had an alcoholic drink called The Don and I had a Mai Tai they were both made very well display. My mother-in-law and my eight year old daughter had Shirley Temples my daughter loved errors but my mother-in-law thought it was too sweet. My son just had water but they provided ice and a lemon wedge so I guess it was good too. My daughter make sure to let me know that the bathroom was very clean I had only washed my head so I didnt know what the stars look like she gave it a 8 out of 10. We will probably visit again.

I actually came to Hana Japan because I think their food is much better than benihanas. This weekend we came in with 3 adults and 4 kids. 2 of the kids were under 5 years old. And only wanted fried rice. We were told they had to order an entree otherwise there is a $10 seating fee. Ridiculous! My other daughter wanted to order a California roll boat and a fried rice. The total of those 2 equaled $15. They still told us they would be an additional $10 on top. Which makes no sense because what she was ordering was worth $15. The price of the kids entree was 9.95, so we figured we might as well order them all meals because it was the same as the seating fee. A ton of wasted food. I was highly upset, and obviously this place is all about making money. If I do ever come back, it wont be with kids.

Hana Japan is a great place to celebrate birthdays. The birthday guest eats free (up to $27.) They can order the Birthday Special or deduct the $27 from their choice of meals.There is a full bar at the entrance and a waiting area. The drinks are generous and our bartender was skilled.The atmosphere is family friendly. Patrons sit around grill tables eight to a table. The cooks are very talented and put on a great show. So theres always a lot of laughter and cheers erupting from surrounding tables. There is a private area with two grill tables for large groups.The Birthday guest recieves a pineapple boat with candles to blow out after the whole restaurant sings Happy Birthday. We sang at least six times during our dinner. The cooks always ask if there there is a birthday guest at the table and pay them special attention during the service. Such as having you try to catch shrimp in your mouth. The kids always get a kick out of the onion volcano. But, no more spoilers. You have to catch the show for yourself.I had the Filet Mignon with Lobster Tail. Usually $44 but I was the Birthday guest so, what the heck. The filet was excellent quality, aged beef that was smooth as butter. The lobster was excellent as well. Fresh and flavorful.I highly recommend this restaurant and have been going there for over twenty years. The quality and service have been consistent over the years.

Although it can get extremely crazy here it was worth the wait. I did call ahead for reservations and got one for 2 hours later. Once arrived i waited about 15 minutes. Once seated everything went smoothly. The service was great the food was amazing and the cook did some pretty awsome stuff. We had a Puerto Rican guy (wepa) and he was pretty funny. The decor is nice. Lights are dim, which i dont mind. The food is a little pricey, but it comes with a show (the chef cooks the food infront of you), so you are paying for that too. The chefs have their signature moves and even includes us in his act. He flip small pieces of eggs or something else into your mouth. We asked white rice for the kids and they bring it, then they take it back from them because that rice is to make fried rice, the kids had to wait for the white rice even with it read on the other side of the table! So we went for my bday. It is no where near as nice as the Berkeley one. We chose this place because we live closer to it. Rather cramped. Service is poor. The chefs are awesome but the overall atmospere is poor. There was our group of three and another group of four at our table. To make matters worse, my daughter contracted food poisoning from this meal. She has the childrens shrimp meal and started puking at 10, hasnt stopped 12+ hours later. I would not recommened this location to anyone. Check out the Berkeley one instead. Much better views, service, and atmosphere.

This probably worst hibachi restaurant I have ever been. I ordered steak and shrimp. For about $26 I received 4 overcooked shrimp, my steak was supposed to be NY strip. It was about 4 oz, I ordered medium rare. When it was obvious he was overlooking it, I said please take it off. He responded you ordered medium rare right. He proceeded to take off 2 steaks of same size ordered medium first. Mine had no pink, was tough to eat and had fat and griddle. There is no way it was strip. The rice and vegetable was undercooked. Great place for a date. Entertainment, meal, and drinks in one place! Sometimes they have inexperienced chefs so the show may not be as exciting, but the food is always well prepared.

Food was good, but the cook was not, he was cooking so fast he didnt even give the show we go there for, so disappointed, for this price the cook should put on a show, especially when that added $57.00 to the bill as a tip

Food had no flavor at all fried rice was burned when I got my shrimp they were hard and the same with my steak I will not recommend this place at all I travel alot and this was the worst hibachi place please save ur money
