This has been a favorite restaurant of ours for twenty years. Ken knew us and we have had many omakase meals, including my daughters birthday every year, though it was a 3 drive. Unfortunately my diagnosis with celiac disease has changed my experience. I was only accommodated to the most basic level. The manager was our server and only offered me sashimi and blessed be, a hamachi collar. She made a couple of uninformed suggestions that I could not have, and then told my husband that she has many celiac clients who do not have the same issue. I am truly saddened that I can no longer enjoy meals at Hana.

Decent food but whole experience can be much better with more private settings for Omakase patrons. Also the order of served dish was a bit awkward. Sushi was the last served and chawamushi was also served in the middle not in the beginning. Maybe because they werent prepared to send the course meal.

I hope this was an off night for this place, but since it was a Saturday at 7, it shouldnt have been. When you go out for sushi you extend some trust and take a health risk. Friends recommended this place from years back, but it must have changed. Sushi was not fresh. Salmon and tuna were pale and dry. The real wasabi was mixed with horseradish paste. Service was lackluster. Music was sing-songy awful. Our food took an hour to arrive due to a mistake they made and we were not compensated. Miso, gomae, and Karage were low in flavor and below average execution for a Japanese restaurant. The Happy Spoon was pretty good and the patio is well-heated. You may want to go for just the cheesecake soufflé dessert.

Solid food in a very nice setting in wine country, from the delicious sushi (fantastic salmon and uni) and Japanese comfort food like okonomiyaki, to crab cakes and hand rolls. Sake and wine selection is impressive, and service at the bar was perfect. While their food is not life changing, Hana is excellent all around.

Hana is consistently among the best sushi experiences in the extended bay area. Highlights are the Maitake tempura, goma-ae, seasonal fish specials (ahi cheek was ridiculously melty and rich), hotate, Hokkaido uni, and a variety of tasty rolls. I believe their miso is made in house and is very good (great in the miso soup).I love a simple California roll, and Hana makes several very solid real-crab versions. Overall, their rolls are creative without being overly repetitive or gimmicky. Big points for being balanced in flavor and not soaked in eel sauce!Servers were always kind, attentive and really helpful in choosing dishes or suggesting fish to try. Amazing sake list too...I just recently tried the souffle cheesecake and found it delightful light and fluffy (much less rich/cheesy than most normal cheesecakes).The food and atmosphere have kept me coming back for many years (7?) and I continue to visit as regularly as I can!

This is the place I take friends and family for special occasions. The staff is always friendly and the food is always excellent. I took a friend there recently for Outdoor Dining and was extremely pleased with the set up. It was very relaxing and pretty.

Unfriendly waiter who’s super slow or unresponsive to do anything. Missing one dish of ginger and wasabi, which we reminded him but it never came. We weren’t able to get attention of the waiter throughout our dinner. Waited for ever and finally I had to ask the receptionist to take our credit card payment. Won’t come again. Food is just average.

Exceptional dinner at Hana Japanese Restaurant in Rohnert Park tonight. 🍱🍣🍚I ventured out with a friend for our first Japanese experience in 1.5 years! We chose Hana, a restaurant we both had enjoyed independently in the past and were excited to try together.Chef Ken Tominagas Hana has a reputation for being one of the best Japanese restaurants in the Bay Area and it never suits to live up to that reputation.We sat on the back patio, which overlooks a golf course, in a private box (originally installed to be COVID safe).The menu is wonderful and overwhelming. It reminds me of bars I enjoyed in Tokyo - a melting pot of all things Japan.We enjoyed the Japanese version of fried chicken (karaagé) and a rich and decadent Hawaiian ahi poké (a tuna tartare which we added a quail egg on top).For our entrees, we each had bento boxes ($32 each). We chose from a mix and match selection of dishes for personalized boxes. For one of my selections, I chose tonkatsu - a fried pork loin. One of my favorite comfort dishes that reminds me of my time nibbling bento boxes on the train in Japan.Our server expertly curated our sake for our personal tastes - we each had two glasses and they were absolutely delicious. One was so good, we asked to see the bottle for a photo: Yamato Shizuku Junmai Daiginjo (the kind of sake that will make you fall in love with sake if you havent already).We felt unrushed and extremely full and satisfied. If youre looking for delicious, fresh, quality Japanese cuisine with a laid back patio or an elegant inside experience, Hana is the place in Sonoma County.KANPAI!

Good service and nice staffs. Food are delicious and worth the price. Sashimi is fresh smooth and rich. Shushi rice is exactly balance, not too sticky not too hard, which is not easy. I think those are all very important for Japanese cuisine. Besides of that, environment is soft and relax. I recommand to order the chefs recommandation set which is around $100. Appetizer I would recommand the egg with uni and sauce (I forgot the name).

We stopped for a quick lunch on the way from San Francisco to Santa Rosa. The parking is plentiful and the restaurant was not busy, but they are very welcoming and friendly. There is a small sushi bar at the left end of the restaurant and the seating seems divided between 2 sections when you walk in with a small bar to the right. Nice selections of fresh fish that were delicious and I regret not getting the Santa Barbara uni. The miso and the pickled vegetables with the sushi lunch were also very good. They also have a selection of non-sushi as well and also sashimi and set lunches. The bathrooms are unisex and they have Japanese toilets meaning that the seats are warmed and the fan turns on when you sit. There are also the usual bidet features if you wish as well.

One of the most amazing places Ive been to in the Bay Area. Ken Tominaga is simply amazing, maintaining the quality of the ingredients. Nowadays, most people know him for PABU in SF, but when it comes to a nice cozy restaurant in a high end setting.. while being in of all places Rohnert Park.. its still a wonderful experience.Outdoor dining available nowadays during the pandemic situation. Danny replaced Stuart as the sake sommelier here when Stuart went to PABU (who knows how long ago..), and Danny is absolutely holding the fort down. Knowledgeable and helpful, he will find you something youll enjoy.

Fairly expensive sushi with somewhat unfriendly staff. We came in without reservations and were immediately seated. And allowed to languish for what seemed an absurdly long time without human interaction. When we asked for a glass of water we were told they, would get to us. Minutes pass. When our waiter (not the person we asked for water) arrived with water, he was friendly enough and fairly helpful. When I ordered a Caedo black lager from the draft beer list, what comes is a (11.3 oz) bottle. Apparently despite being described on the menu as a draft beer, its a bottled beer. Huh.It was kind of surreal asking the waiter what the difference was between their sea trout and their salmon and being told that salmon is a sea fish while sea trout starts in fresh water and then migrates to the sea. Wait, what?But, everything was delicious. The cuttlefish roll was maybe a little underwhelming, but I will blame that on my inexperienced palate.The decor is nice.Will put on our list of places we may visit again when we feel like splurging.

I was skepticle when I found the place and it is basically in a big commercialized shopping center, but wow was I glad to not be deterred. I have been to many Japanese restaurants and even have my favorite place in Sacramento, but the chefs tasting menu was hands down the best experience I have had. The variety, the presentation, and the taste was unmatched. Honestly one of the best dining experiences as well. Dont forget to try the sake!

The sushi and everything used to be the best I’ve ever had but the past few times the sushi hasn’t been rolled well and the tempura was super oily. I tried to order a month ago by calling and was told to stay on hold. 25 minutes later, nothing. Called again the next week, said they were all out of shrimp at 5pm??? Just called now for a third separate time and no answer after 30 minutes of trying and 9 calls. As much as I used to love it, I will not be going back. Bad service and high prices that are not worth it anymore

The food was just fine. I cant really speak to the sushi, but I did eat several other things. The age tofu used a very firm tofu which might be easier to handle for them but didnt taste right. The karaage wasnt crispy enough. The flavor was fine though. The katsu looked like an American cutlet more than a real katsu. But to be fair, I havent really seen many authentic katsu in the US. I would be more accepting of the food, but its also pretty expensive.

Yeah, well… I’ve been to Nobu Matsuhisa’s restaurants in NY + LA, and countless other great more traditional sushi restaurants, and was hoping for a similar experience here (given the prices, and the hype) - and what we got tonight for my wife’s b-day dinner could not have been further from greatness.This is a well run business, good service, very nice people. Appetizers/soups were just about delicious, and then came the fish, and it was barely edible at best. And that was across the board. It wasn’t just like “ooh that mackerel tastes + smells funny” - it was just about every other fish.An extraordinary let-down, to the point where it’s shocking people actually go here and give it such rave reviews. Maybe it’s the great Sake that’s masking the poor quality fish? Embarrassingly small portions too. Like somehow that’s supposed to make it seem more valuable?Great sushi doesn’t smell like it’s been sitting on the docks. And the prices? I feel like I’ve been pick-pocketed… Bumm-er.

The owner frequently visits customers at the tables, even though he owns restaurants all over the world. The staff is extremely professional and helpful. OMG SO GOOD!My partner and I were in the Santa Rosa area for his belated birthday celebration; we were looking for a Japanese restaurant and came across Hana online. Already the sake beckoned and their high reviews just sealed the deal.When we arrived, we only had to wait for a few minutes. The restaurant had a healthy busy-ness about it, but it wasnt overwhelmed and there were still a fair number of tables available (and they were comfortably spaced out). The only downside is the table that we were seated at was near a service area so there was a lot of hustle and bustle from the wait staff, as well as people walking by in the corridor right next to the table.The food was superb and it was so pretty to take pics of too... but Im jumping ahead. He and I both decided to get Omakase. We didnt see it mentioned on the menu so we also asked the server if there was a sake pairing for the Omakase - and lo and behold there was! We ended up sharing a pairing between the two of us which was enough to get the taste and can still comfortably drive afterwards.For the dishes, they were able to accommodate my partners shellfish allergy and constantly checked in to see how things were going. Although we had our main server, one of the chefs(?) came to serve most if not all of the dishes. He gave a detailed explanation of each part of the dish and answered any questions we may have had as well.Overall, great experience (especially for just randomly coming across Hana) with friendly, generous staff and I look forward to coming back sometime.

Amazing food and service. The portions are small but the quality of food makes up for it. A co-worker and I tried a variety of the offerings and everything was excellent. Dont let the location fool you, this is one of best restaurants in Sonoma County and on of my all time favorites for Sushi. The quality here top notch and consistent. The wine and sake list is quite nice as well with a good selection. It is comfortable and quiet every time I have been. It is not inexpensive, but neither is the food/drink, or atmosphere, it is well worth a visit if you truly love Japanese cuisine.

Best sushi around!! I was too busy enjoying everything to remember to take pictures lol. Sat with two friends at the sushi bar to the far right side. I showed up late and they had already ordered the first three items off of their special menu. So I did the same to make it easy, as it was my firs time being there. It was amazing. Then they asked the chef to choose what ever he wanted/thought was best. And we were not disappointed. He made three of everything and we probably had another twelve items after the first three. Long due review! I used to come eat lunch & dinner 2-3 times a week. When I used to lived in Santa Rosa, CA. We thought this was the best Japanese restaurant in Sonoma county -- and their great reviews were well-deserved ... but it has taken a nose-dive since the last time we were here last year. Both the food and the service were mediocre. How quickly they fall !!!And, sorry to say this, the bathrooms were dirty and in need of maintenance/repair. My wife and I agreed that the experience was so disappointing, we would never return. So sad to see a once-great restaurant become so un-inspiring. 🙁

Absolutely loved this place! We traveled from Atlanta to California to celebrate our anniversary. While staying a portion of our trip in the Sonoma County area, we read great reviews about the restaurant, which is why we decided to try it out. The service and food were impeccable! We ordered Kens Roll sushi that came with pine nuts, which I was not aware as I am allergic. Danny, one of the servers, immediately took it back to be remade without question. For the inconvenience they served us edamame while we waited. We went to eat dinner the very next night because we were so impressed with the quality and taste of the food and our waiter Albertos service. Soon as we walked in, Danny and Alberto and the rest of the staff remembered us. Fried mushrooms were served on the house for the minor incident with the pine nuts from the previous evening. Definitely not expected! If we stayed an additional night in the area we would definitely have had dinner again there. This place definitely has the BEST sushi weve ever had! We will be recommending this place to all those in the area!

Hana is the real deal. Six of us went for dinner and all of us cant wait to go back. The menu is extensive and some things were unfamiliar but our server was quite informative and she really knew her business. Also, we dont know much about sake so it was fun having a sake expert educate us. The food is so fresh that everything melted in our mouths. And yes, it is expensive but you get what you pay for. It was our first visit as we were in town for one night. We ordered several rolls and with the advice from our lovely server (I wish I remembered her name) we ordered the spicy roll with scallops. Along with all the other rolls it was absolutely fresh and delicious. We were a bit overwhelmed by the extensive Sake list but went with her suggestion, Jokigen and it was the perfect choice. We loved watching the chefs do their magic and although we had the table near the kitchen (possibly the worst table in the house) it was still fabulous! Very disappointing service! We were there for a Birthday gathering, and although our waiter was very nice, he wasnt the only one serving us and the others were very unprofessional. The service was very slow, we had to repeat our requests for things,and the overall experience being there was lousy because of the poor service. The food is very good,very expensive, and we will not return due to the wait staff. There are equally good sushi places in both Sebastopol and Petaluma, and thats where we will eat for now on. I left the lowest tip Ive ever given in my life, and I believe in generous tipping. If folks want to get drunk and eat sushi,then this restaurant is probably good for you because the slow service wont be as evident. At the same time we ordered drinks, we ordered 6 sushi rolls, one sashimi, a mushroom tempura and some kind of pork dish. The drinks came out promptly, the mushrooms and pork followed promptly. They were good, but four little slices of pork seemed really skimpy. Thats was the best part of the meal.We then sat and waited for about 50 minutes before any of our sushi came out. People around us were getting served, but the waitress kept passing our table. Finally after about 40 minutes she apologized and mentioned something about the bar being backed up and that our food would be out soon. 10 minutes later our sushi finally showed up... or most of it anyway. By that time we all just wanted out, so we gobbled it down and waited for the check only to have the waitress tell us that our final sushi roll would be out soon. Ten more minutes go by and it finally showed up!The worst part about it is the sushi was just OK, and at about twice the price of our favorite sushi spot, so needless to say, we wont be back.

And quality of sushi were I would rate minus 5-Stars yet owner of Hana claims they are the top 3-Japanese restaurant in Sonoma-Napa County??? Better scouts a real sushi chefs from Japan or restaurant will looses customers gradually.07/26/22, sister and I visited hoping good dinner although it turnout to be horrible meals which didnt expect from them. I can tell right away meals werent prepared by Japanese. Every items in $40 Bento Box were tasted like fastfood.FOR THE MENUS PRICES, WOULD NOT RECOMMEND.

The food is delicious and every time we go in we make sure to order something we have not tried before and have never been disappointed. My husbands favorite is Kens Roll. They have a wonderful kids plate (that can be requested) and many non-sushi items available as well for people who prefer their meats cooked.

Bait and Switch, that was how we were treated. Not told that any sushi listed on the menu were not available, we decided on our order. But, when we placed it, the Saba on the menu was not available while a version on the specials was. It would cost $1 more per order. I thought that, since they never told us any menu items were unavailable, they should comp us for the difference on the two orders. The server refused, as did her manager. Now their sushi prices are already quite high, especially for a strip mall in a small remote suburb. What I was asking amounted to less than what the credit card company would charge them on our meal. This obstinate refusal was, to me, an example of the worst kind of service. In light of other lapses I told the manager there would be no tip. His reaction was they would refuse to serve us at all and asked us to leave. This is one of the worst service experiences I have ever had.

The food was mostly OK, but nothing special about any of it. None of it tasted particularly fresh or noteworthy. The tuna had a grainy texture, which indicated it was well past its prime. The eel was especially disappointing. The ambiance was not bad The staff were inattentive. Price was well above above what I would consider reasonable for the quality and the location. Not a place I would particularly recommend and not a place I plan to return to. To me it is overpriced and overrated.

We read reviews for Hana before deciding to take the recommendation. They varied, and most cited the high prices, but we thought we would give it a chance.I ordered a glass of wine, and the staff was very accommodating, allowing me to sample a couple before deciding what I liked. The disappointing part was the size of the pour - 4oz at best for $12. For that price I expected a full pour.The rest of our meal was satisfactory flavor-wise, however severely overpriced. We tried the tempura appetizer, shumai, Hawaiian poke plate and the salmon teriyaki meal. They served the salmon with rice and miso soup, and also a side of mashed potatoes which turned out to be a little too much starch for me. The salmon steak and spicy tuna from the poke plate were absolutely delicious.Overall, we were satisfied with all the food we ordered. It met our expectations in terms of flavor and quality. My only deterrent was the sticker shock, and why I have Hana 3 stars. I thought that all the items were overpriced for what we received.

We will never go back, nor reccomend this restaurant. Four of us dined here tonight. Two of us received entrees and the other two of us received ours 45 minutes later! When we had placed our orders, our waitress had warned us that the kitchen is backed up and that our meals MAY not arrive at the same time. That was an understatement! We figured a 5 or 10 minute difference, which while not optimal, would be okay as we were already there and had finished our appetizers and we wanted to make the most of our time together. After 1/2 hour of waiting for our remaining two meals, as the other two in our party had finished theirs, the staff repeatedly began clearing their dishes; but were refused as they wanted to wait for our meals to arrive so we werent the only two eating at a cleared table. I then asked our waitress if our meals were coming and she became flustered, reminding me how she had warned us that the meals MAY not come out at the same time as the kitchen is backed up... how it wasnt her fault as she had checked with the kitchen... and then repeated that she had warned us. After another ten minutes of waiting, my husband asked the status of our meals, and again she reminded him how she did tell us the kitchen is backed up. He pointed out that the party of four to our right, who arrived after us, received all their meals, as did the party of six behind them. Our waitress got testy and defensive, again reiterating that she had informed us the kitchen is backed up, etc etc.So we finally got our meals. Our meals were truly nothing special. We had eaten much better Japanese food elsewhere in the area -- not sour grapes here - just truth. Very disappointing, not only due to the ridiculous serving conditions, but also the flavors. Another friend recommended Hana. After we had finished, we were charged the full menu prices, but she did give us two complimentary small scoops of raspberry sorbet to share. That made it all worth it.. One of the worst dining experiences we had ever had.

After moving from Orange County we have been searching long and hard for an amazing sushi restaurant. After trying many places in both Napa and Sonoma Counties we think we may have found a winner!This place is a bit more pricy than most (about a couple dollars per roll) but totally worth it! The sushi is DELICIOUS and fresh! The service was fantastic, they were constantly there to refill your water and clear your plates. We even sat at the sushi bar.Only one minor complaint. After getting our bill each roll was about $1-$2 more than what the price was in the menu. I advised the waitress and she apologized and stated they got new menus a few weeks ago and the ones at the bar must not of been changed out. Nothing was done to compensate the price we were under the impression of. I also told the waitress she may want to take the old menu away.
