Used to eat here every week, but significantly worse service now. Takeout only, average quality sushi, mj sushi is better. Very slow pickup times. About 45 minutes after estimated pickup time. No apologies or explanation after. 37$ for 3 rolls

Great food, large menu selection, good portions, lots of tasty flavors, and wonderful service (always with a smile). Plenty of parking, but could get crowded inside as seating can be limited during crowded times. This gem of a restaurant is one of my favorites and I visit as often as I can. Good choice for Japanese food. The fish is fresh, rolls (which you have a great variety to choose from) are tasty and the service is fast enough.If you will sit at the bar, there are little boat that are floating along the bar carrying rolls to grab.Nice place overall and the parking at Cherry Chase plaza is big enough.

Got the spicy chicken, and it was excellent. Hot, tender, juicy and medium spicy. More than enough for a lunch. Rice was fresh.Miso soup was delicious and contained tofu and seaweed.Makes for an excellent meal while hanging out at the Tesla Superchargers in the parking lot.Only suggestion is non-food. Fix alignment of blinds so they are neat and not tilted/rolled. Clean windows of scotch tape fragments. And generally clean and straighten everything. Not a great impression.

Possibly one of the worst sushi places Ive been to in the bay area. Got a ichiban roll (eel + albacore + unagi sauce), and the unagi sauce was just TERRIBLE. I couldnt taste the actual eel or accompanying fish due to the overwhelming unagi sauce. It was VERY artificial and sugary, and really ruined the entire meal for me.Would not recommend anyone to come here, and if you did, stay away from the unagi sauce!!

This is a family-run small business, and it is wonderful! It is run by a couple who treat their few employees like family, and the food shares their love!They have options for anyone, so if you don’t see what you want, call them and ask for it. The Follow Your Dream roll came from a craving during my pregnancy, and it has made it onto their menu. Their food is fabulous, and their service is wonderful. Poor experience with the sushi. The Hamachi was cut in very large and hard to eat pieces. The rolls were falling apart from the center of the table to my plate, sometimes even as soon as I grabbed them. Fish was not properly cleaned (found a piece of scale of skin, cant tell). Cant recommend it.

This place is amazing! The service is really friendly and fast! It really isnt that busy even at peak lunch hours on weekdays, but the waiters and sushi chef do tell me that there is a line that forms outside on weekends and because of it, this place is packed on weekends.The ambience is blended well between contemporary restaurants of today and traditional Japanese styling!Of course... 😄 Theres also that sushi boat system, which is always cool to see the sushi go around in nice boats with cute ducks on them. Id highly recommend this option if youre on a budget or just not that hungry and chatting with friends for this place, because most of the bentos, rice plates, or even their noodles are $10 or higher! You could also get their sushi plates, Id recommend the dragon rolls or fire balls!As for me i got the teriyaki bento box and, oh my, is it the best ive had out of any sushi place ive tried so far! The bento box contains both chicken and beef teriyaki pieces, a salad, some tempura pieces and steamed rice.The salad was pretty decent for a sushi place salad, their dressing was alright but i was surprised to see how fresh everything was, the tomato was also a nice addition, not so much can be said for the spinach.The tempura was done really well, everything was crispy and even on all sides and gives you from broccoli to the shrimp, all covered in tempura coating and a nice mat on the bottom to absorb the oil.The rice.. is just rice, but the best and the reason why i ordered this is the beef and chicken teriyaki! Both pieces are separated from one another and held on a nice piece of lettuce! The beef was well done and tender! Same with the chicken and how it was covered with... You know TERIYAKI SAUCE? And the sause was really good and plentiful enough for all if the pieces Hanamaru gives you, maybe even too much! All of this for $13, which is pretty good! Considering what you get!I forgot to also mention it comes with miso soup, really nice!In all, this is a pretty great place! And if youd come here to spend a little more, this is the place for really great sushi! And also make sure to try their teriyaki options! :D

My mom and I love to order take-out here. The food is well prepared and the staff are very friendly. My absolute favorite thing is the vegetable tempura, perfectly cooked winter squash, sweet potato, zucchini and broccoli, with a delicious tempura batter. The only complaint that I have is that on the kani salad sushi, which my mother always orders, the nori is always soft. Maybe because it is pre-made? I think it would be better to have it pre-made but not wrapped and then wrap it at the last minute. Nevertheless, my mom likes it enough that she orders that exact dish at least once a month... and - everything else is fantastic ✨✨✨

I tried Hanamaru because it was a bit more affordable than the sushi place I usually get take out from (Satsuma). But I won’t be trying it again. The sushi was really low quality and just not very good. We actually ended up throwing some of it out which I have never had to do for sushi….

There were bones/pieces of plastic in one of my sushi rolls that had to be picked out since it was inedible. Also got sick after eating the sushi from here which has never happened before to me. There are for sure better options in Sunnyvale.

The sushi here is pretty great. The fish tastes nice and the balance of flavors in their recipes works well. They also do some fun rolls worth trying, like their Awesome Hanamaru or the Lemon Drop. Service is always pleasant and they owners are lovely folks. My only ongoing complaint is that the bathrooms are not in good shape (and havent been for a long time) and it detracts from what would otherwise be a gem of a local restaurant.Still, we eat here often for the good food.

Prices shown on google are incorrect and The actual prices are much higher. Owner claims he doesn’t know how to fix it and apparently try it’s googles fault. Ordered what I thought was $20 of food but at pickup was charged $35. Owner should update pricing on google and avoid misleading customers.

Most of the sushi here was great. It wasnt terribly cheap, but still appropriately priced. The wait staff was pretty nice. They dont accept Amex, so thats something to watch out for. I really enjoyed watching sushi boats floating around the sushi bar.

Ok. So let me tell you why I love this place being that its my first time here. The food was amazing. The service was just as awesome. Grabbed my drink and she came out with water, an extra jug of water for me personally, and lemonade. Then when ordering sushi I got the lion queen with lion king sauces and the Harley Davidson rolls. Both were AMAZING! Cudos to the chefs. The sushi would melt in my mouth. It was that delicious. Ill definitely be back. Next time with friends. Aware it is a tad expensive..2 rolls and drink for $36 w/o tip.. but hey.. its worth it.

This small sushi restaurant is located in the far end of a complex and is easy to miss. I have been here several times, tried several sushi rolls and simply love them! Even my husband, who is not a big fan of sushi likes the rolls here. There is a sushi boat and separate tables as well, so that is good. You will most likely have a wait time if you go during peak hours.Al though I love the sushi rolls here, I despise the service. The waitresses walk around as though nobody even exists inside the restaurant. Every time they walked past our table, I try to establish an eye contact with them, but no, they walk around in their own dream world. So, I had to say Excuse me loud enough, so that one of those bemused ladies would hear me and come to our table. And it is also quite surprising how ready, willing and able they are, when you are ready for the check.However, I would still go to this sushi bar only because I love their rolls so much!

I live in SF where good sushi is abundant. Although I tried all Sushi places I could find-- from cheap to expensive-- I never found one with that perfect mix: Delicious sushi I can afford on a budget, great atmosphere, and friendly staff.This place has all three. The wait staff are always lovely- they remember me and always strike up courteous conversation, the food is absolutely amazing. They have a huge selection, from savory appetizers, to simple veggie rolls, to rolls where they pullout all the stops. (The Lion King is unreal.) The fish is always fresh and flavorful and the sake is great too.I highly recommend this restaurant. The location threw me when I first went in--being in a Safeway shopping centre and all--but I am so glad I went in. I have tried other sushi places since falling in love with Hanamaru, but I keep coming back time and time again.

Good sushi at a reasonable price. The fish seemed fresh, the salmon in particular had an intense and fresh flavor. The more elaborate warm sushi had a bit too much sauce on it, but the pieces were large and tasty. One major downside is that the interior is very loud and there doesnt seem to be a place to sit outside.I suggest trying the tempura ice cream for desert (i.e. fried ice cream).

The food was pretty good, but the sound system was wired incorrectly - they had phase inverted one of the two stereo channels (a miswiring), so all lead vocals were nulled out. It was super weird, the music and background vocals were loud and you couldnt hear the regular lyrics.. kind of like a karaoke machine. When I brought this to the attention of our server she just said, well, Alexa gets crazy some times, you know? and then turned the music off, leaving the restaurant in an awkward silence.

I attempted to order food through GrubHub for this place, and I am extremely happy that I used them as a medium.I placed my order around 7:40pm, along with a few other people I was with. The estimated time for delivery was about an hour out. Cool, understandable. Big order to process.Almost an hour later, 3 of my friends get their food. I wait, assuming it must have come at the same time or will be soon (I was staying close to the restaurant).9:00 hits on a delivery time of 8:53. My friend and I have not received our food but payment already processed. My friend calls the restaurant and explains the situation politely the first time around. They have a major communication issue and after about 15 minutes of I cannot hear/understand you, Im sorry and Im sorry, is there anyone else I can talk to?, we determine their fax machine is not working. We were never notified of this fact even though the order was apparently received and processed. He gets frustrated and says goodbye.We each call GrubHub customer support and they were awesome. They contacted the restaurant to corroborate our story and after confirming, we were told we would receive refunds and a credit to our GrubHub account.So, in short, I would have loved to try and review the food, but it never got to me. Grubhub was awesome.

By far my favorite sushi place in the Bay Area. The sushi is fresh, reasonably priced and the staff is all very sweet. The must haves are: Playboy, Tokyo, Fire Cracker, Naked Salmon and Midori Musi. I really love unagi and avocado, and they have many rolls with this combination.

In short: developed food poisoning 7 hours after eating the salmon kama (cheek) here. When I ordered it, the first time it came out with half the pieces raw in the center, and the second time (after I sent it back) there was still a spot of blood in the fish near the bone.
