We stayed in the converted carriage house and it was so special. A fire was ready to light in the fireplace when we arrived. In the morning our breakfast was placed in a little birdhouse shaped cabinet outside our door. The nearby restaurants were within an easy walking distance. I hope to go here again in the very near future. Altogether lovely in every way.
We had such a wonderful stay! The breakfast was delicious, the beds were incredibly comfortable, the room was cozy and cute, and the service was excellent. We enjoyed tea time upstairs and walking around Mendocino’s shops and beaches. We’ll definitely be back!
We had such a lovely time at the Headlands Inn! The room we stayed in was really nice with its own private deck and a wood burning stove. We utilized both of those a lot! The breakfasts were absolutely wonderful and the afternoon cookies were still warm and DIVINE! The staff was very helpful and friendly, especially Diane! We hope to be back in the future!
Lovely little place in Mendocino. Staff was extremely accommodating as we were late to check in. Service was impeccable, one of my favorite breakfasts from the trip! Room was lovely- bed was a little lumpy so that’s why it got four stars but otherwise everything was perfect! We even had a little furnace in our room as it was a little chilly at night in early June. We would absolutely stay here again in a heartbeat- can’t beat walking distance from the beach!

Been a regular visitor to Mendocino since the 1970s and love to stay in the town proper so I can walk around visiting the shops, etc. Discovered Headlands Inn awhile back and has been my go to place to stay. Breakfast is delicious, location is great, hospitality is wonderful. On this last visit stayed on the third floor. A mistake for someone of my age with aching bones. First floor going forward. Room was lovely and comfortable. Bathroom shower/tub could be an issue for some.
The Inn is a private house converted to a B&B. I stayed in the chalet, very nice with a real fireplace all prepared to light up. Breakfast is served to the room and outstanding, very delicious and lovingly prepared.
Beautiful quaint place to stay. Bed was very comfy and the breakfast was scrumptious! Great location for exploring Mendocino. Only street parking but it was easy.
The Caspar Cottage was separate from the inn, was so cute and offers more privacy. Big bath, cozy bed, fireplace and walking distance to everywhere in town. Plus, breakfast was beautifully done! This is our new favorite b&b in the area!

This is a great place to stay in Mendocino. The Casper Cottage is especially nice since it is a separate private little cottage with all the charm of a B and B. Great location, good breakfast, and clean and quaint lodging is all you need for a wonderful couple of days.

This B&B was AMAZING! We arrived tired after a lot of travel. There were amazing fresh baked cookies waiting for us. Our room was so comfortable with an ocean view and a view of their gorgeous garden out front. I cant even begin to gush over the spectacular breakfast served to us in the morning! A souffle, fruits, pastries. OH MY GOODNESS! Ive never had anything so delicious!
We have stayed at the Headlands Inn before, but this was our first stay at the Innlet, the historic cottage adjacent to the main B&B. The Innlet is pet friendly and very spacious. The location cant be beat, right in the heart of Mendocino. The kitchen is well-equipped and the cottage was very clean with comfortable beds and soft bath towels.John and Ashley are great hosts.
We enjoyed our stay here. The breakfasts are quite tasty and beautiful, and come with flowers. The room, the Bessie Strauss room, was very spacious and has a great view and you can see the ocean, but we found ourselves drinking tea and people watching. There is a hot water kettle and lots of hot drink options which is great to have. The afternoon cookies were delicious as well.The bathroom was pretty cramped, but fine for what it is. The furniture was not a highlight for us, the bed was not very comfortable and the couch was not either. Overall, I enjoyed our visit, but the price is a bit steep for the bathroom and the furniture in it. Took off a star for that.
Annies Room is a great suite with private bath, comfy bed, warm covers. Breakfast was fabulous. Afternoon tea and yummy cookies. Hostess was the mostest. Here for an annual meeting- plan to book soon to be sure its available.
Could not have asked for a better experience. Perfect location for exploring downtown, cozy rooms with wood burning fireplaces, and an amazing breakfast. Highly recommended.

Our stay was beyond expectations. The room and house was delightful. The owners were lovely and accommodating. We enjoyed making a fire in the fireplace. It was very cozy and quiet. The breakfast was fabulous! They even made it a gluten free. We look forward to returning although maybe not on a Tuesday. A number of businesses were closed but we still had a great time.

The trim was cost & comfortable with plenty of room for the dog’s bed too.The owners and staff were so nice and very accommodating. They were able to easily handle my special dietary restrictions without a problem.I would highly recommend you stay there when you’re in Mendocino!
Loved our getaway to Mendocino where we stayed at the Headlands Inn. Our bed was very comfortable, the fireplace in the room was romantic, the host was friendly and helpful with tips on where to eat and what hikes to do and the morning homemade breakfast was wonderful!! The only thing I would have loved was maybe one more comfortable chair in the room.

Came here because of good reviews and I am writing as I wake up the next morning with a bit of a surprise. The breakfast that is served to Hideaway cottage is pastries and fruits (see picture) it is NOT the lovely cooked breakfast that you see on the homepage or other reviews. The website is misleading how the breakfast is included and needs to amend it so that guests are not misinformed. For example for all bed and Inn rooms that is in the main house, they are served normal hot breakfast, but on the website, it doesnt mention that its even included. Otherwise a good place if you want a cozy place right in town, but owners did a very poor job of explaining the breakfast situation even when called to discuss about it. Avoid going to hideaway cottage room if you are expecting that beautiful breakfast they claim to give you!!
I can’t say enough about how much my husband and I enjoyed our stay. I was a little concerned about the Patricia Stofle room because it’s right by the front door, however, it made us feel like we were the resident greeters. The breakfasts were creative, beautiful, locally sourced, and since we always eat with our eyes first, fresh flowers and warm savory or sweet muffins/breads completed the delicious ensemble. We spent a lot of time in the Adirondack chairs on the deck. Don’t hesitate, book it now. We will be back.

Headlands Inn was an amazing overnight stop on our trip driving the PCH from Tacoma, WA to LA. Mendocino is a lovely town and the Inn is located right in the village just steps from a wide variety of restaurants and boutiques. We arrived late and John left us our key and welcome info available for us to let ourselves in. The room was beautiful, cozy, and full of historic charm. We both travel with and sleep with CPAP machines and when we discovered we didnt have an extension cord long enough to reach the outlet (the Inn is a historical building and as such there was one main outlet in the room with a provided multi-outlet strip but we were ill-prepared), John was so kind as to bring us an extension cord and leave it in our room while we were at dinner. Crisis averted, and we slept soundly and deeply in the comfortable bed! The room was stocked with toiletries and the cool summer evening breeze through our window was just perfect. We could even catch a glimpse of the ocean from our ground-floor room.Breakfast was delicious and took into account any dietary needs and preferences we had. We had to leave before 10am to stay on schedule so we didnt have a chance to meet our wonderful innkeepers face to face but we hope they know how much we appreciated their hospitality. We will absolutely stay again if we find ourselves in beautiful Mendocino!

It is wonderful, Beautiful victorian home or cozy cottage, welcoming host, roaring fire, jetted tub, and comfy bed...now lets talk breakfast. Wow, just wow outstanding. Easy walk to beach views, local shopping, and local eats. Perfect place to have a quiet romantic weekend
Positive: Wonderful location steps away from ocean, shops and restaurants. Charming, clean and well maintained. Beautiful room. Wonderful and friendly staff who delivered breakfast to your door. Negative: Our room was on first floor by the front door and porch so it was a bit noisy and had to keep the shades down in the morning. Next visit we¿ll book earlier for an upstairs room.
The Headlands has friendly service, convenient location, easy street parking, and very tasty breakfasts, cooked vegan as I specified. Best of all, my dog loved the room! I would recommend this place to others.
Fabulous, but would not go back in near freezing weather. The third floor was cold even with a fire and the heater on. Breakfast was excellent. Make reservations ahead to get a room with a view of the ocean.

We recommend staying at The Hideaway at The Headlands Inn if you want your only slice of paradise. You’re off the main house, and you get your own personal deck. The staff is phenomenal. I wanted a massage, and they found me an incredible masseuse. The room was clean and cozy; by the end of the trip my fiancé didn’t want to leave the room! The small touches were appreciated: sparkling water in the mini fridge, tea and homemade baked cookies by Ashley in the parlour, refreshed room every afternoon, restocked coffee and tea; we truly felt like royalty. Breakfast didn’t come with this room, but we bought breakfast for one of the mornings and it was delicious! Did I mention the bed was one of the best beds we’ve ever slept in. Stay here. Perfect for a romantic getaway.
This is a wonderful place to visit! My husband and I spent our honeymoon their and had the best experience even during COVID! They are taking all the right pro cations are being very safe! The breakfast the serve every morning as absolutely amazing and beautiful! The rooms are extremely clean and cozy! It is so hard to get out of the amazing feather beds in the morning, but the aromas of a fresh cooked breakfast make it possible. They even had the fire place all set up and ready to go if we wanted a fire. This Inn is also in walking distance to everything!

Our stay at the Headlands Inn was one of the most enjoyable vacations Ive ever had. Its quiet, very clean, and the breakfast is wonderful. Beyond description. And they deliver it to your room. The beds were so comfortable we asked where the bedding came from. Fantastic staff who will stop and just have a conversation with you, and will help you with anything you need. In the late afternoon they have hot tea, coffee, and homemade cookies. You can easily walk to town from there, its only a few blocks. Highly recommended to anyone who wants a vacation where youre pampered and well fed.

Mix of positive and negative. Taking off two stars, one for the mattress and one for the shower.The Good: clean room, decorated in a authentic way. We were in a large room facing the water and it was very pleasant. See photos for views and breakfast. Bed linen is nice. There is a working fireplace that is clean and set up for easy use. We got complimentary wine and the common room had some snacks and booze at all times. All this - perfect.The breakfast was solid though not very healthy (but nice to let go on the weekend). It was served beautifully in an authentic way - we really felt pampered eating in our room, looking at the ocean.The bad.The mattress was completely and totally busted. As an establishment which has “bed” in the description, it was disappointing. I had a back ache since my side of the bed was so sunk in.The shower had an issue with the hot water. Pretty sure it was an issue in the mixer faucet since there was hot water in the sink. The water wasn’t cold but it was tepid. Not a pleasant experience. I reported it, and was politely informed it is not possible to fix it.These two issues prevent me from recommending the place since I wouldn’t go back there myself due to the bed and shower issues. Otherwise it’s easily 5 stars.
We stayed at Headlands Inn for 2 nights and it was absolutely perfect. Beautiful, clean and cozy room (we were at Casper cottage); tasty breakfast served to your room; complementary tea with cookies and sherry every day 5pm-7pm. The place is family owned and is filled with love. Denise and Mitch are super nice, friendly and make you feel like at home. Definitely recommend to everyone and hope that we will come back soon!
We stayed here over the Christmas holiday in the Wilson room. The room was amazing and had its own private balcony where you could view the ocean and gardens! It also has a wood burning stove which made for romantic nights in since most of the restaurants are closed due to COVID + the holidays. I highly recommend this bed and breakfast. The best thing about this place is the amazing breakfast and service. If you are coming anytime in the near future, prepare to head into Fort Bragg for meals or head to the local grocery store for DIY, as most restaurants are closed.
The beds are soft and comfortable.The hosts are warm and amiable with great recommendations.The location is central with great walks to the headlands and other nearby beaches.The breakfasts are hot, filling and delicious.Overall Id highly recommend this place-- my only complaint is that 9 AM seems a tad late for breakfast, but heck-- how often do I get to just sleep in and relax until someone serves me breakfast?

During a cross country road trip in early June 2018, I spent two of the most beautiful days of my life in Mendocino and stayed at the Headlands Inn...best impulse decision we made during the trip! Beautiful B&B with the friendliest proprietors who created incredible breakfasts. All at a great price and with an ocean view like nothing we could ever have here in the woodlands of Pennsylvania. When wanderlust calls again Im headed to the Highlands Inn!

We love Headlands inn! It is so cozy, clean, and relaxing. The breakfast isalways delicious. The beds are extremely soft. It is in a perfect locationright in town but on a quiet street with other charming homes. The Inn keepers are so welcoming and helpful! And if you want to hear about the history of the town orjust have a delightful, humorous chat talk to Kelly. We have been in many differentInns in Mendocino and it is our favorite one that we return to when we come totown.
We stayed at the Headlands Inn over the Halloween weekend. The Inn is walking distance to restaurants and breathtaking vistas. We stayed in the John Barry room which is on the top floor of the Inn. The roomwas quiet, private and tastefully decorated.The breakfast every morning was amazing and added to the charm of this place. Perfect couples getaway!

It was my husbands birthday and I wanted to surprise him by not just taking him to a beautiful place (hed never been before) as well as stay there.Denis was welcoming, helpful in guiding us the places to visit, room and the entire house was clean, breakfast was good. She also took care of our request on vegetarian options.We plan to go again soon.
Wow! This was our first stay at a bed & breakfast and I cant wait to go back! Such a cozy cottage fireplace, tub and the bed I didnt want to leave. Right in town for exploring mendo, just walk down the street and you are at the mouth of Big River! This is definitely our spot.

My wife and I were looking for a complete getaway from our hectic life. We couldnt have picked a better place. Mitch and Denise welcomed us with warm smiles and the wonderful smell of freshly baked cookies. We stayed in the cottage and it really couldnt have been better. Large jetted bathtub, fireplace (stocked everyday), and a bed that my wife and I melted into every night. I also would like to mention that the breakfast is phenomenal and we looked forward to it every morning, served on different china, everyday of the week. We will be making a yearly visit with my family.

This B&B is impeccably maintained and decorated, and the proprietors could not be lovelier. Denise, Mitch, and Kelly are absolutely charming and wonderful storytellers- ask them about the town of Mendocino, what you should see in the area, or just say hello and see where the conversation takes you. Seriously, do not miss the chance to get to know them. Kelly was even kind enough to draw us a map of things to see en route to SLO! With touches like fresh flowers, afternoon tea & homemade cookies, and the best (and biggest!) breakfast around, you wont want to leave. Between the coziness, hospitality, and just sheer comfort of the inn and room, youll feel like youre home while on vacation. It is central to the shops and restaurants of downtown Mendocino, with easy walks through town, to the beach, and to the point - where the view is just breathtaking, especially at sunset. We stayed in The Switzer room, which with the windows open provided the perfect ocean breeze for sleeping. Cannot recommend Headlands Inn enough, Id give it ten stars if I could. We cant wait to visit again.
I liked the attention to details.. the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was presented beautifully and tasted Wonderful too. We got a chance to speak with one of the innkeepers.. she was extremely courteous and was happy to help with any information. Ps- she has a cute dragonfly pin on her cap!

Overpriced for what I experienced. The whole town was blacked out minus 2 or 3 places open for food/drinks. The inn itself tried to accommodate as much as possible, but it was not worth the cost.

Breakfast was delicious and they were accommodating of my vegetarian request. My boyfriend and I enjoyed the proximity walkable to shops, restaurants, and nature. Our room was on the top floor and it was cozy and quiet. We’d happily stay there again.

2023-09-11 16:12:24Booking rooms at Headlands Inn for me & 10 of my family members was the best decision when we visited Mendocino over the Labor Day holiday weekend. The innkeepers were awesome and very accommodating. The inn was beautiful and the breakfast was delicious. The cookies were also the best cookies we ever tasted! We went to ride the skunk train the next morning in Fort Bragg and this location was convenient. It’s also walking distance to Main St. where all the shops and restaurants are. Hope to come back again someday. Highly recommended!Thank you Diane & everyone there!

When we arrived, we were greeted with fresh, warm cookies and then walked over to our room in the second building. It was so cozy with the softest bed, a nice seating area outside, and we appreciated the local recommendations as well. Compliments to the housekeeping staff as well the room was clean and smelled great. Also, the breakfast basket was so nice with the fresh baked goods and other foods. Overall, a wonderful stay and certainly somewhere Id recommend for anyone looking for a calm coastal stay.

2023-10-05 21:31:47My husband and I just spent 2 nights at the Headlands Inn for a birthday celebration. There are many bed and breakfasts in this area, but I picked this place after reading other peoples good reviews. This was our first time staying at a bed and breakfast.We chose the downstairs bedroom behind the kitchen/office area. Luckily the guests upstairs didnt move around much so it was quiet for us. The bed was very comfortable and I was surprised that I slept more than I did at my own home! My only complaint is that the shower was a bit weak due to the age of the place.Breakfast was delicious and nicely presented and more than enough to start our day of outdoor activities. They also host an afternoon tea and cookies where one can chat with other guests.The location is unbeatable! Step outside and take in the view of the sea. All the restaurants and shops are within walking distance too.Service was great with attentive emails prior to arrival and little gifts for the birthday celebration. On our drive back we visited Husch Winery and received an additional 15% discount for having stayed at the Headlands Inn.

2023-08-20 04:42:57Our host greeted us warmly for our one night stay in Annie’s Room on the first floor. Super cozy. Clean, quiet, comfortable. Breakfast was amazing. It’s a short easy walk to the beach area around the confluence of the Big River. Good birding in this area. The town literally oozes charm; enchanting little shops and eateries all walkable from the B&B. Drive out to Headlands Park and watch the sunset. It will heal your soul.

2023-10-13 20:17:26We enjoyed our overnight stay in Annie’s room in the Headlands Inn in Mendocino. It had a great view and it was an easy walk to dinner at the equally-exceptional Trillium restaurant. The delicious breakfast in the front terrazzo of the Headlands Inn was a highlight of our two-week Northern California visit.

2023-09-01 00:28:28The cottage itself was lovely complete with fireplace, small table and loveseat. The bed was luxurious. Everything about the cottage was delightful. The true highlight was having the breakfast delivered to the charming little house outside the door. The breakfast was outstanding in every way, and we were even given choices. Totally great experience.

2023-08-16 03:33:30You should really book this lovely bed and breakfast right now! I wish we had time to stay more than just the one night. We checked in late, and the owners left us a lovely welcome note with information about where to get our keys and how to let them know about our breakfast choices.This was a mother/daughter Pacific Coast Highway 1 road trip. We specifically chose locally owned b&b and funky mom/pop retro motels for the entire trip. We researched places to stay for months, so you can be sure this review is based on high expectations! We were not disappointed about anything during our stay at The Headlands Inn!We chose the George Switzer Room because of the top floor location with village views, lots of windows, that huge king size bed with a feather mattress, and a wood burning fireplace! We loved that the host left plenty of dry, well-seasoned wood ready for us. The bed was so comfortable that I don’t even remember falling asleep. We loved being able to crank the windows open and slept with a lovely cross breeze all night. We woke up to the smell of the garden flowers wafting on the breeze.Speaking of flowers! The inn’s garden is full of beautiful blooming plants. The host even had a lovely arrangement on our morning breakfast tray. Breakfast at the inn was one of the best meals we had during the entire trip, and we ate at some amazing places!Thick cut French toast with cream cheese and cinnamon between layers of homemade bread, fresh fruit, breakfast sausage links, juice, coffee with real cream, and hot tea was served just outside our bedroom door. I have to point out that the toast was sprinkled with little, edible gold stars! Truly delightful!The details- street parking is available, we felt very safe, quiet inn and very quiet location, easy walk to every shop and restaurant in the historic district, beautiful garden, directly across from a little park with seating and swings, homemade cookies and coffee at check in were a nice touch, lovely view of the headlands, room has a private bath, there are common areas for all guests to enjoy, you can purchase the art too.Accessibility- like all historic/old houses, the stairs are narrow so if you have a large suitcase getting it up the stairs might be an issue for you. We used a carryon and totes so make accommodations by packing differently if that’s an issue for you.We 100% loved our stay and want to do a weekend just in Mendocino. We will definitely be staying at The Headlands Inn!
