Great punjabi food. We often stop by to pickup and enjoy and had a first time dine in. Courteous host and offer accommodation requested. Had a great weekend buffet but we chose al-a-carte. We ordered Tandoor Chicken, chicken soup, lamb seekh kebab, chole bhature, aaloo and gobhi paranthas, daal makhni, palak paneer, chicken curry and with laccha paranta and butter tandoor roti.. all flavorful. Service and server were great. Recommended for comfort punjabi food.

We stoped here on our way to San Diego and are very glad that we did. Service was quick and all dishes tasted good. The restaurant has a big dining hall. All meat dishes are halal! We will stop by again next time we are in Bakersfield.

We love India Indian food, but most places make the food so spicy it’s unbearable! While visiting Bakersfield, as we do yearly, we found this restaurant that prepares the food with a mild spice, and it was delicious! We ordered buffet style and there were many choices of meat, and fish, vegetables, rice,naan, we chose the garlic naan, salad, chutney, and India style pickle, they also have a lovely dessert of Carrot Halwa, shredded carrots with golden raisins, cardamom and slivered almonds, delicious, and Gulab Jamun, a deep fried cheese ball in sugar syrup! everything was fresh and tasty! And to make it better, they have high ratings! We will visit this restaurant again!

I would love to say, this is the only place were i found original indian food taste, i liked their new recipes of ACHARI GOAT, I tried extra spicy 🌶️ one, it was bomb.Rogan josh goat, tandoori fish, garlic naan, mango lassi i tried many things.It’s been couple days, when i been there and I forgot to give a review.And today I got reminded about it because I’m going there again because of their food taste. This was our first time visiting the heart of India & the experience was great. The food was delicious, super reasonably priced & great friendly service. I have celiac disease (severe gluten allergy) and they were able to confirm foods were gluten free; I had the butter chicken with rice and they all provided papadum (with 4 sauces) free of charge, as well as a soda. All of it was extremely flavourful.My partner had the chicken korma with rice and garlic naan & mango lassi and described it as being high quality and tasting authentic.The portions were large (particularly from a Canadian stand point), with each serving of rice and curry providing us each a second leftover meal. For so much food, it was super reasonably priced at only $50, great value!We dined in at the restaurants and the service was quick and friendly, and a very pleasant environment.If we visit this city again, we will definitely be returning!

Incredibly authentic and flavorful Indian food, drinks and desserts at pretty reasonable prices. The buffet was a good spread and the mango lassie was spot on. Its an older property, but dont let that fool you, the place is very well run and has the great ratings to prove it.

One of my top ten indian cuisine restaurants. They provide exceptional service, fantastic food and have a very polite staff. I love the ambiance this restaurant has, a great place for a date. I usually go for the buffet, chai tea and mango lassi. The buffet changes every day from my understanding, but if you would like to order take out they also provide that service as well. I will provide pictures of the food available the day I had the pleasure of dining in and their menu. I crossed out the prices in black because I was informed that their prices had changed recently. So for more information on menu prices its best to call the restaurant during regular business hours.Overall, I love it here one thing that i never forget to order is their chili naan, Its fantastic!

Absolutely delicious!! They special made lamb korma for me, my husband had coconut curry chicken, cumin rice, garlic naan, cheese/onion/spice naan, and hot tea. The appetizer of the crispy chip with 4 chutney’s was yummy (although I think the chutneys are passed from table to table without replacing the spoons- I’d prefer a smaller amount in single serve plastic cups for each table). The servers were very friendly and quick. ($53).

I live in Oregon so I can’t get Indian food very often. Heart of India was very clean - they even have hand sanitizer on every table, which I have never seen before. The food was fresh and very good. I even had some items I’ve never had before, such as fruit custard and a carrot dessert. The staff was very attentive. All in all, a very enjoyable experience!

The food tasted really great. Service was excellent. They could accommodate us though it was almost closing time and served delicious food. We got Dal Tadka, chapathi, and veg pulav. It was one of the best Dal I have had. Chapathis were soft and layered unlike other restaurants that makes them thick. They were easy to talk to and serve extra ghee and yoghurt!Overall it was a great experience.

Stopped here on our way back from Joshua tree for a lunch buffet on a Monday. I wasnt expecting from a weekday buffet but the food was fantastic .We tried the below items -Tandoori roti, goat curry, chicken curry, tandoori chicken, dahi bhalla chaat, fish pakora, shahi paneer, gajar halwa, kheerSome feedback -channa masala - could be betterGulab jamun - could be less sweetThe chai was amazing too! We have been to several Indian restaurants in Bakersfield and several where we lived in Texas (comparing this against 7 other restaurants total). I took my wife and kids for lunch outing, while visiting a relative in Bakersfield. The overall vibe of the restaurant is so bad, food is terrible on top of that zero customer service. Felt like employees were not happy to see customers. Asked for mild spicy kebab, gave me extra spicy, desserts are super sugary, no one handling the food with gloves, forget about the quality, just one person doing the job of 5 people.

It’s been a while since we have come to this restaurant. It’s been nicely redone on the inside and much brighter. My family come for the Butter Chicken since we think it’s the best in town, but to my surprise today they served Goat Curry. Not gamey at all and the meat was super tender. I think I had more than I should’ve. And to top it off there was complimentary Chai tea ☕️ that had a very light Rose 🌹 note to it. Very pleased. And the staff were super friendly.

I should’ve come here sooner! We were going to stop for Thai, but parked in front of this place, and it sounded good, too. I didn’t realize this place was here, and we’d usually go to the Indian places further on Ming. We had the veggie sampler, chicken vindaloo, Malayi chicken, and two types of naan. So many types of naan, and soooo good. The garlic naan was amazing. The malayi chicken was our favorite. Plus, this place hasn’t jacked up prices like every where else! Instead of $18-20, entrees were like $14-15 for some quality Indian food that really satisfied that something different craving. Looks like they do a lunch buffet, so we will definitely come back for that.

Warning too all delivery drivers not one of the customers have tip for any of the 10 deliveries that was done. I guess they figured they spend high dollar for food but not even a single dollar goes for delivery. The restaurant is charging for a fee but uber eats doesnt get that fee. So I recommend that you dont pick up from this place.

Loved the authentic Indian food! We’ve been to a lot of Indian restaurants and this one is the best! They have amazing vegetarian options and tons of great meat dishes for the meat lovers. We loved the Aloo Gobi (anyone who can make cauliflower taste that good is amazing) and the lamb Vindaloo! Of course the naan is amazing and so was the Tandoori chicken. I also had their Long Island and thought it was great too!

This is an amazing place I went to with my girlfriend. Vishal and Pawan are a team that provides amazing service, care and kindness. My favorite dish was the butter chicken very savory and wholesome and papri chaat, fresh crisp and perfectly seasoned. My girlfriend loved her lamb curry though i cant remember the exact dish. Prices are fair and comparable to other Indian restaurants, but the portions are bigger for the price. The family that own this place are super nice and make you feel welcome. Just had lunch at Heart of India, my companion and I both had the lunch buffet. The buffet is the way to go if you cannot decide what you want or want yo sample various dishes.All the offerings in the buffet were fresh, I sampled three dishes while my companion had four, we both agreed the food was fresh and flavorful.Service was excellent and the food reasonably priced. This restaurant is very friendly and thoughtful of the customers. Very clean and prettily decorated. We ordered a large order to go and it was ready in 30 minutes. Wow, HEART OF INDIA never disappoints! I am from Visalia and will make appointments in Bakersfield just so I can visit Heart Of India for lunch. The buffet is stellar with so many tasty options. I’ve learned to like lentils and their potato dishes are prepared so well, as the potato melts in your mouth and is so perfectly seasoned. Truly a wonderful food adventure!

I work all over California, especially the Central Valley. I always look for Indian restaurants wherever I am, as it’s not the worst health wise, and also just tastes great. I was in Bakersfield for work, and we saw this heart of India while looking for some lunch .I got the chicken tikka masala. And the garlic naan. It was as easily the best tikka masala I’ve ever had. Spiced very well, where other places have over spiced pretty easily. And the garlic naan has a great crisp without it being too light or greasy.Definitely recommend!

The dining experience was great! My family was looking for an authentic Indian cuisine in Bakersfield and Heart of India ticked all the boxes. It overrated restaurant. Customer service is bad. We ordered mango chicken and before ordering we asked if it is sweet and the girl said no, no it’s not sweet. It turned out to be super sweet like sweet chutney. We told them it is super sweet and they offered us to fix it. It came out even sweeter. We ewre starving and then we didn’t want to take further risk hence ordered veg biryani. There was no flavor to it. It was just a spicy rice. Well they didn’t come and check with us if the fixed version was okay or replace it with different dish or offered the refund. We paid in full and gave them feedback politely.I do not recommend this place at all. Food is bad and so is customer service.

The food seemed to have been properly prepared from scratch and it was all very authentic-tasting and delicious. The service was excellent and the people were friendly. I went to this restaurant on my birthday for the first time and I will share some pros and cons that I experienced. I brought 4 others with me and would have taken more people but was not sure if they would like it or not so I wanted to try it out first.Well when we first entered people looked at us as though we should not be there so it was a little uncomfortable and just a side not if your serving to the public you should expect many different type of people to enter your restaurant. servers were not friendly only one treated us nice and her name was Pawan and I truly appreciated that but the others constantly starred at us without any smiles or even any greetings, and served others before they would help us, so they could work on their inclusion and friendliness to all people.I loved their food so if youre looking for some good Indian food that is definitely the place, and my favorite dish was the chicken curry and rice with vegetable pakora,but unfortunately I will never return and hope to find another good Indian restaurant in the future because my family loved the food and would like to go again, but it will not be at the heart of India bar & restaurant.P.S. We can never pass up a good buffet when it comes to wanting Indian Food. Heart of India is tucked away in the corner of the Colonial Square, and as you approach the restaurant a delicious aroma hits you. The staff is always friendly and attentive to your needs. It’s the food though that always has us coming back for more. You should definitely try them out if you have a palate for food from India. Now if only I could figure out how sneak the carafe of Indian tea out. Lol. It’s my absolute favorite.
