BEST BREAKFAST IN THE COUNTY! Fast service, great options, 16in pancake and close to Redwood National Park! Was seated quickly at the bar on a busy Saturday after Thanksgiving for lunch! Got a mango mimosa, bruschetta, 2 pancakes, bacon and eggs and my husband got 2 eggs, hash and toast with a beer! Loved watching everyone come in from the trails and enjoy a meal! Wonderful classic diner with a super efficient staff!

We stopped at Hiouchi Cafe before heading to Jeremiah Smith for the day .To be perfectly honest, I’m not a big breakfast fan.I hadn’t planned to eat but decided to split a breakfast with my wife; why not, it’s vacay.My wife was gonna order the half biscuits and gravy by we opted to get the full. We could’ve easily gotten the half and been happy, the portions are ridiculously large. Obesity anyone?Joking aside, all the portions are ridiculous here 4/5This place was an unassuming hole in the wall (my favorite kinda spot) and it did not disappoint.Giving a 4 star. Deserves a 4.5 but not a 5.Service was attentive and fast 5/5Bathroom was clean 5/5I will definitely be back here!

The ratings they have received are REAL. THIS PLACE WAS PACKED. We found out why. Sitting at our table near the front of the restaurant, sipping coffee and watching a well run establishment. The line cooks communicated well with each other, which means orders came out quickly.Wait staff was friendly and promptly refilled both water and coffee.The food was delicious and warm when it came out.You could tell the customers were a mix of tourists and locals and the competent staff took care of all customers well.Highly recommend!

Big portions, great service, great atmosphere with likeable 80s songs. We had 2 eggs with sausage, waffle, biscuits and gravy and blue burger. The sausage was juicy and flavorful. The rest of the group agreed, the food was excellent. Kid friendly, outdoor seating.

Their food is simple, well prepaid. I have only had breakfast there. Standard fair, but delicious. The gravy and biscuits were great. So are their four egg omelettes. My daughter (25yo) likes their chocolate chip pancakes. The little old waitress is delightful. I like their coffee. 😉

Great service by a team of folks from the minute we walked in until our meal was done. Food was fast and tasty. For a 90+year old place, it was in great shape, theyve redone it/kept it in nice blond wood tones. Would definitely eat here again, nice find on our redwoods tour.

This is a wonderful diner with so much character and delicious brunch! The waitstaff is so accommodating and friendly, and they were flexible with my requested substitutions. Inside the diner is super cute with lots of seating, and outside they have 10 picnic tables with umbrellas. We sat outside with our dog and they made sure to take great care of us despite being the only people outside on this cloudy morning!

We would never miss Valentines Day Dinner at Hiouchi Cafe. It was SOLD OUT and they didn’t need to advertise what was on the menu.Locals know, whatever they are cooking up is going to be elevated 100%! The chef has full range and dazzles with his culinary skills.We had such a enjoyable dinner with flavors that compare to a few Michelin rated restaurants that we have frequented. Seriously. We are always delighted to eat here and know that once the word gets out to the masses, this little cafe will have a wait list and be on the foodie map.Happy Birthday Kevin & Happy Valentines Day to all the hard working staff at Hiouchi Cafe! Historic Hiouchi Café aka Hiouchi Café is soo cute, they have outdoor seating (Dog Friendly), counter, tables and chairs along the side of the café. Our waitress Jeanniene r was very fast and efficient, ha funny too! Ordered….Short stack pancakes – Typical, huge and fluffy, made just right.Fresh egg combo with homemade corned beef hash with peppers and onions – Anytime a restaurant makes corned beef hash in house you know I am gonna order it. This dish was absolutely delicious, one of my faves the hash browns were under the corned beef the mix of crispy, salty and with the over easy runny egg the flavors really hit the spot. I personally love adding ketchup the sweetness brings the full flavor out of the dish!

The food wasnt my favorite. I had chocolate chip pancakes that didnt taste very well and didnt really have any chocolate chips embedded. There was just a bit on top. The hot choc was great though. I also tried the oat porridge, but it tasted very watery. Considering the good ratings, I will try luck with savory foods next time.

I’m so thankful that food businesses are back and serving the public, I had their French dip and onion rings. They baked their own French rolls but didn’t have any flavor to it and the onion rings was just OK definitely not worth a extra $2. The service was great and their staff was friendly. My meal cost me 20.57 plus the tip, for just a French dip with no drink and paid extra for the onion rings I thought was a little high for what you got. Bottom line, would I go back yes I’m going back to try their clam chowder on a Friday and see how that goes.

Great food! Super friendly staff! Clean bathrooms. The prices are the lowest Ive seen, but being from the SF Bay Area Im not sure Im the best judge. Could not finish my breakfast burrito. The tortilla was so soft and buttery and fresh I almost wonder if theyre made in house. My partner said the breakfast bowl was rich and decadent. We have plenty of leftovers and are very happy we made the drive from Crescent City instead of picking an in town option.

Fantastic breakfast and the portions are like you are one of the firefighters working in the area. The staff are so welcoming and the cafe is clean and inviting. So glad we stopped here and recommend it to anyone who is visiting the redwood state and national parks.

Great service friendly staff. Family of 5, everyone had to get a to-go box because servings are generous. Bill was $80 plus tip. Seemed like a good value for two meals with the leftovers. We were staying in an airbnb and were grateful for a place close by on the Smith River. Great weekend.

The place was absolutely busy but they still have very fast service with great food. Definitely will go back again for breakfast and try lunch there too.

Came here for a quick lunch after we hiked Howland Hill road. This is the only restaurant for a good ways both ways on the hwy. Super glad we did the burger was delicious!! Tater tots were nice and crispy even had fries and onion rings as an option too. Cheap aswell compared to alot of restaurants in Northern Cali. Visited June 2022

Take an journey through Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park that dead ends on 199 Hwy. Take a lunch break at Hioichi Cafe you will not be disappointed everything is recommended by local waitress. I had the Cuban which was melted and cook to perfection with a blend of 3 meats with mustard and Mayo and dill pickles. Wife had tuna melt on gf bread. Son had the club and Caesar salad. Other son had chocolate chip pancakes hash browns and eggs, too much for him to eat.

I am a chicken fried steak connoisseur and had high hopes based on the reviews read about great food. Let’s start with the cheapest meal on the menu is $17 for bacon and eggs. Had me thinking it must be a great lace with these prices. My chicken fried steak was $21 and sad to say one of the worst premade breaded burger patties I’ve ever had. The gravy was bland and my eggs weren’t cooked correctly. Hate to sound too negative but between the prices and lackluster flavor of the food I’ve had better at Dennys and a much better price. Will try somewhere else tomorrow and hope for better.

Wow. What a wonderful dining experience. The whole interior was remodeled in December and looks great. Restrooms are very clean. We got seated immediately on a busy Sunday morning. Wait staff was attentive, but not overbearing. No awkward small talk to interrupt our meal. The portions are huge. The prices very reasonable. Our breakfast was delicious - eggs, hash browns, chicken fried steak, sausage, bacon. All seasoned perfectly, not at all greasy. We couldnt pass up on the pancakes - one serving was enough to feed our family of four. I had a bowl of oatmeal and couldnt finish it, it had walnuts and raisins in it, with fresh blueberries on top...yummy. Support this business. They are doing everything right.

Ah! What a lovely find as Im heading into the redwoods. The staff are friendly and the food is excellent. We were a bit hungry coming into the place and we didnt know what to expect, but we neednt have worried at all. The place serves up very much standard American breakfast fare as well as a few other interesting bits. All the ingredients on the menu and what came out on our plates were and seemed very much fresh and juicy and delicious. The coffee never stopped coming and we were filled to the brim with excellent food and happiness as we left. Overall I do recommend this as an excellent place especially if you love breakfast. Stop on by if you are around in the redwoods. Totally recommend.

Great diner with outdoor seatings, only a mile away from the visitor center. I had a western burger which was very delicious. My wife had a bowl of chili and toast. My daughters had a chilli burger and a pancake. The pancake was 16 inch and its the largest we have ever seen. All the food was very good and very generous portion. The price was very reasonable too. The staffs were very friendly. Its highly recommend.

A MUST if you are traveling through the redwoods! The burgers are huge and some of the best I’ve ever eaten with incredible fries and onion rings! Really good place to stop for a big breakfast. Sunday special is Egg Benedict and its one of our new favorites. They have a full range of dinner breakfast choices. We ordered a baby size pancake and its a big as a dinner plate. The full platter size pan cake is gigantic, so bring your appetite. Worth a stop for some food. Staff is friendly.

Great place to stop before or after a day hiking in the redwoods. They get 4 stars for serving me unsweet dark brewed tea in a pitcher. Had a half sandwich half salad. This is the kind of diner where The parking lot is jampacked by 9:30 AM on a Friday, everyone calls you “dear,” and the freshly made take-out breakfast sandwich is hot off the grill with six slices of ham and some spinach leaves too, if you ask nicely.The diner is right around the corner from Jedediah Smith redwoods state park, convenient for campers whose campfires have been rained out.The only sadness is that they use Styrofoam — that nasty product that never disintegrates. At least I was able to take it away, and dispose of it outside of this beautiful location.

Great little diner that we stopped by on our way to Crescent City from Eugene, Oregon. The bacon was thick cut, the eggs were perfectly cooked over easy, the pancakes were fluffy, and the hash browns were not greasy at all. This is probably the best breakfast Ive ever eaten in a roadside café. I ordered sausage patty, eggs over medium w/ rye toast. The sausage was fantastic. The toast was a delicious marble rye. They are busy so expect a bit of a wait for your meal. But not too long. The server was very nice. Love this place.

Best breakfast in the county is right!! During the course of our stay in the area we visited Hiouchi Cafe several times. We tried the corned beef hash, chicken fried steak, bloody Mary, and happened to catch them for a lobster scramble one morning. This is some of the best breakfast Ive had in my life. Their biscuits are incredible, the coffee is delicious, staff is friendly and very welcoming. Theres a great local vibe to the restaurant that makes you feel like family coming in. The food reminded me of my grandmas home cooking when I was a kid. I absolutely wish I had Hiouchi Cafe back home.

I’m a local and we are so blessed to have this little gem of a place in our back yard. Everything is fresh and all my meals have been flavored perfectly. Soooo good. Made this pregnant lady very happy! Everyone was so attentive and kind. Husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich and I ordered the western bacon burger. We split each, and it was so flavorful!!! The burger and sando were enormous, and the fries were perfect. Definitely saving the half I took home to eat for a midnight snack!!We arrived around 4ish, right before a little bit of a rush. I love how the staff anticipates the needs of everyone without giving the impression that its a burden. There are a few other things on the menu that looked (and smelled) so good, Ill definitely be coming back.

We were visiting the redwoods and staying in the RV Park across the road. We were exhausted and didnt want to drive into Crescent City or Brookking, so we decided to give them a try. They also dont enforce masks including their employees which made us super nervous about our food and waiting for it. We got two sandwiches and two drinks (technically only one) and somehow ended up paying $40. They are the last restaurant until Grants Pass so I guess they can charge that much. All the employees were nice while we were there (only a few minutes. We got take out), but their passive aggressive note regarding masks and their lack of covid protections made the environment feel pretty unsafe.

Was having a bad day. Had just totaled my vintage trailer. The next morning while we were cleaning out our trailer, the manager brought us hot coffee to warm us up. Just came in here and not one worker was wearing a mask, against California law mandate for restaurants. Every guest was maskless even when up to pay. Extremely disappointing and sad that this establishment in a tourist spot is selfish enough to potentially infect patrons. Not a mask in sight... I was the only one wearing a mask in the entire establishment. This made me a little bit uncomfortable. Sign on the door saying that they have provided a mask to all their staff, but respect their privacy if they have a health condition that prevents them from being able to wear a mask. Not a single member of their staff was wearing one... not even the guy in the back flipping burgers. I understand the right to not wear a mask, but come on. By wearing a mask, best case you save lives, worst case, you’re a little uncomfortable. Worth it in my opinion.
