The combo green beans are amazing! All the ingredients are fresh and flavorful. Dont forget to ask for the chili oil and chili paste. They are amazing too! The wonderful meal after a long bike ride. Cant wait to come back!

This is the best Chinese food I have ever had! Everything was delicious! It didn’t have that starchy taste like you get from most Chinese restaurants, this food was fresh. My family am I are here just for the weekend and came in late, we came the last hour they were open and the servers were nothing but nice to us, giving us recommendations and were checking on us the whole time. They were so nice, I am very happy we found this place! I highly recommend! You won’t be disappointed!

Everything here is delicious! Their Orange chicken is amazing, the sizzling rice soup is to die for and the Chicken wings are always a hit with our family.We always come here to celebrate birthdays and just for a casual meal to sit down or take out.I brought leftovers home to my dad once when my mom was out of town, knowing he wouldnt have cooked anything, and he ate everything! He tends to be very picky when it comes to Chinese food, so for him to eat everything speaks major volumes.Keep up the wonderful service and cooking beautiful food Ho Wah!

Tourists in the area looking for a Chinese and we found this absolute gem. Warm welcome and given advice on what to eat. Food came in good time (maybe a little bit too quickly) and service throughout the meal was superb. We ordered 4 different dishes and each one was awesome. Salt and pepper tofu and fish very good and lots of flavor. We also got the cashew chicken and yes I know it’s made differently everywhere but it just wasn’t very good and not much flavor. And I ate it before eating the salt and pepper items we got because I know it won’t have as much flavor as those. We would get the salt and pepper items again.

While staying in Monterey for the weekend, we were craving some Chinese food, and we discovered Ho Wah Chinese. This restaurant was amazing! As soon as we entered we were welcomed in with smiles and didn’t feel like we were just typical tourists. The service was amazing with great tasting food! Highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area. Portion sizes are perfect. Thank you Ho Wah for the awesome service! Definitely will be returning!

This place offers up some really authentic Cantonese style Chinese food. My wife is S.F. born Chinese. This is the food she grew up on and I have eaten for nearly 50 years. It is well prepared and very tasty. No MSG. We are from Palo Alto and visit our son often. Hes in Marina. The Chinese food in the Bay area is very good and this is comparable. This has become our go to spot for Chinese food. Weve had several items from the menu on different occasions and have never been disappointed. Last night we had the Hong Kong crispy noodle chow mein with chicken and veggies, salt and pepper prawns and sauteed green beans. Everything was perfect and the portions were enough for three with some left over. Our plan is to try different items on every visit and will be trying dine in soon. Cant go wrong here. 4.5 stars ... It was good to see how busy they were. Restaurant nearly full and lots of take out lined up on the counter.Update: 7/6/23 ... Still as good as I described above. Consistency makes a difference and this place is consistent.

Went to school nearby a few years ago and was passing through and I just had to get food here! Always loved the chow fun and salt and pepper wings are the best. Im from LA and theres nothing like it there, had to get an extra order to go because its that good!My friend didnt understand why I kept talking about Ho Wah until she tasted it and loved every bite too! We had chow fun, walnut shrimp, salt and pepper wings, and dumplings. Everything was as delicious as I remembered and the staff was super friendly too. 10/10✅️ would recommend everyone to try at least once, and its a must stop for me every time I visit the Monterey Bay area.

Always my favorite food, owner remembered me from when I was local and bought weekly, and I moved away 2 years prior! I ALWAYS loved their food and even though their prices went up about 25% since I moved, their food is still worth it.Service is usually quick, and wait times are extremely accurate when you call an order in. If servers seem short, its because of their accent and not their attitude, they are all extremely sweet people there. 5 stars all the way!

Hands down the best Chinese restaurant in this area. I had the pleasure of trying the wings, orange chicken, and ginger tea. They were all amazing! This is the best Chinese restaurant I’ve ever been to in my entire life. I’ve been going here for almost 4 years now and have never had a bad meal. The owner is the sweetest woman in the world and cares so much about her food and customers. The food is always fresh, delicious, and healthy (unlike some Chinese restaurants in America). The owner works so hard and gives back to her local community. This is a great local business to support and you will not be disappointed with the food! My favorites are the garlic eggplant with tofu, the salt and pepper fish, the sweet and sour soup, and the veggie Shanghai noodles.

Three of us for dinner. Ordered the orange chicken plus the green bean combo specials, and the seafood chow mein, plus some steamed rice. The hot ginger tea is really fresh and tasty. All the entrees were exceptionally flavorful. The green beans were very fresh and sauteed perfectly so that they had a crunch. Abundant portions of meat/seafood in each dish and all very fresh. Orange chicken has a slight crispiness. Portions are large, so we had to box some to take home. Friday evening the main dining room was about full and there seemed to be a lot of to-go orders. The service was very good!

If this was just for the food this would be 2 stars as the food was just about edible. Panda express is far superior.The whole experience was awful. My mother and I arrived at 8.25pm and were immediately barked at by Im assuming the owner. She said just take out! She then hurried us into choosing some items which she shouted back to the kitchen to start making even though we were still deciding. We chose a few items, enough for 3 people as she kept rushing us by saying the kitchen staff had to leave despite closing time being over half an hour away.She then proceeded to hand us the bill for $100!! I was shocked and said that this was way too much. I then discovered that the rice dishes were enormous and we just had way too much food. She refused to take anything off as she said the kitchen staff had already started. I wanted to leave but my mum being prideful would not hear of it and instead handed over $100. I felt like we had been essentially ripped off. We ended up trashing the vast majority of the barely edible food. Save yourself the stress and bizarrely overpriced, sub standard, food.

Such a hidden gem in Marina! There arent a ton of memorable Chinese food places in the area.. until now! A friend suggested we check out Ho Wah, and Im so glad she did! This is the blandest Chinese food Ive ever had. No flavor at all to the chow mein. The fried rice was pretty much white rice. And the general chicken had none of that spicy sweet kick to it. Maybe Im getting covid and losing my taste bc thats what it felt like eating this food. Youre better off going to a panda express. They also have a $15 minimum spend to use a card, but dont worry because they will round up your order to $15 even when its less than that so you can use your card! How nice of them!

The restaurant is very clean inside. The dining room is inviting, not fancy but inviting. There is an adjoining banquet room that would work for a group of 25 easily.The woman that operates the front of the shop is very friendly. We were offered tea while we waited for our take-out.You can see the kitchen from the register and I can represent it is gigantic. It looks clean and organized.Their calamari is dipped in a tempura batter and this separates this dish from this product at more upscale restaurants that offer the dish.I really like their chow mein. They are not shy with the shrimp. The family appreciated the house fried rice quite a bit.I really liked the egg foo young. So much so that I want to return as soon as is practical to try it again.Pricing is no bargain but its not overpriced either.A hearty recommendation for Ho Wah.

We were coming back from a hike. My family and I were looking for an affordable place to eat. But no less than 4.5 stars rating. I was impressed by this place. Food was tasty and not super salty like others. We ordered pot stickers, Mongolian beef, garlic chicken, egg rolls, vegetable fried rice(the best), vegetable chow mein and green bean shrimp. Overall it was good. The service was nice. The food good and prices decent, not great but decent prices. The food was not greasy and seem very fresh. However this is not a traditional Chinese restaurant. 3 red flags.One there was no chopsticks or soup spoons at the table. You can ask for some but they done offer them. Two there is no red oil sauce to be found. Just your simple salt pepper and soy sauce. Mark of and Americanized Chinese food. And three, the menu has America names for the food such as the name pot stickers. In a real Chinese restaurant you would call them dumplings. But like I have said before the food was still good.

This is easily the best Chinese place that Ive been able to eat at and definitely will return to. The staff is extremely friendly and very obviously take pride in their food. A dish they are especially proud of is the salt and pepper spicy chicken wings. Its simple spices are intensely flavorful and accentuate the taste of the chicken. Their ginger tea is also astoundingly tasteful with a strong and sweet ginger taste. The food isnt expensive but I definitely did not feel like I was eating at a cheap, local Asian restaurant but rather ate authentic, locally sourced, Chinese cousine. It is unfortunate that the restaurant is a little out of the way to those in Monterey but this place really is worth the drive.

We moved to this area, having lived in Saratoga/San Jose for may decades where we have excellent Chinese food. Ho Wah was recommended to us by my Brother and Sister in-law who live in the area. Ho Wah has a new cook from Hong Kong and we were very surprised of the quality of food. String beans with chicken, shrimp and chicken, and salt and pepper sole were excellent. Food was okay, not spectacular. Prices seemed a bit high but there was more food than I could eat. They advertise no MSG, but there is lots of salt. My orange chicken tasted like it came from a special breed of chicken that has four legs and goes oink. Our server said he confirmed with the cook it was chicken. I am sorry this place has gone downhill to be one of the worst Chinese restaurants around. Very expensive now with the new management,terrible customer service and mediocre food in the past year. I live a block away and drive to another City rather than deal with this rude staff. They do not anwer the telephone so placing an order by phone is not possible. I walked down to order soup tonight after trying to call ahead, one family was sitting inside but the hostess could not be bothered to speak to me for 5 minutes while she was on her cell phone. She was very unkind when I just wanted to order two items and told me it would be 30-40 minutes wait for soup. I chose to leave as should anyone considering this place to eat. I think it was better a few years ago. For the high price, treat yourself to another place with a friendly staff and functioning kitchen.

The dishes we ordered were very delicious. Cooked great to our satisfaction. We also tried the sesame seed balls. Those were so tasty. Save room for 2 each. My only complaint- if you can call it that - is that the brown rice we ordered came last. Soooo if u want your rice WITH you meal make sure you ask them to be sure to have rice prepared and brought to table with other dishes. Unless u dont mind having it after dishes start arriving. Got a call from delivery person, lost. We have ordered from them umpteen times and we live right across the street. Food delivered just warm. Deep fried squid flavorless, Ill eat my hat if this was fresh Monterey bay squid. Sweet and sour pork was not crispy, but a dough covered piece of pork with no sauce on bottom. Hunan beef had no rice noodles on bottom and was not spicy. Barbequed pork fried rice very hard to describe, rice was a mass, not individual grains of rice. Cashew chicken chow mein was ok.Overall, since change of ownership Ho Wah food has definitely dropped in quality, but the price has increased by $3 to $4 per dish. Time to find a new Chinese restaurant.

Lees Garden is ten million times better yall. Gotten delivery, takeout, and dined in person. Wildly unorganized management. Inside looks roachy. The food is medicore and overpriced. They charge for things like a cup of water. The employees are overworked and rushed. I placed a takeout order and once I arrived at their estimated time, waited in their hallway for over an hour.

Some restaurants will use a honey/glaze sauce and some restaurants will use a mayonnaise sauce (some even straight up plain mayonnaise) or mixture therebetween. This restaurant uses mayonnaise.
