I was walking down Chinatown today and saw a flux of patrons in and out of a restaurant that is on the second floor.Typically, a large number of customers would likely indicate that the restaurant is clean, offers delicious/exotic food, offers good value for your money, or a combination of all three.Having browsed the menu, I was sure that it was most likely not the third reason stated above, but since prices were just a bit higher than your typical Chinatown Chinese food prices, I decided to give it a try, and this was a mistake. The food was hot (really hot, meaning having a high temperature when served, as is typical in an authentic Chinese food), but it was unusually salty: the Chinese only make the food extra salty if its not fresh, or meant to preserve the food in the first place. Since I ordered shrimp with eggs, it couldnt have been the second case.Additionally, the portion that was served was really small, as evident in one of the photos. Looking around, I noticed that there were a good number of non-Asian patrons, and I can clearly see why: this restaurant boasts one of the cleanest restrooms I have ever seen in an Asian restaurant in Chinatown.Furthermore, although the restaurant was far from being full, service was really slow, and while this isnt uncommon in a Chinese restaurant in Chinatwon, especially when you are an Asian who dont speak Cantonese, I just thought I should note it here as well. Note that I did not lower my rating becuase of this : because they seem to serve Cantonese-speaking patrons and non-Asians quite promptly. I would hate to think that they are discriminating their patrons on the basis that they cant speak Cantonese alone, although my experience does seem to strongly suggest it.However, as a Chinese person who also knows how to cook, I have to give this restaurant a pretty low rating: the food served was not delicious, and it was not good value for the money (in Chinatown, you expect at least one, if not both, since you are typically paying in cash). I did give it an overall two stars for two reasons. One, I was impressed with the restroom, that it being so unusually clean for this area of the town. Two, they offer a receipt that was actually comprehensible : I took a photo of the receipt becuase I was surprised that they would accept a credit card, and that the receipt is actually itemized : in many Chinese restaurants they would only write in Chinese on a slip and give you some total to pay, and they also would only accept cash. However, given this was Chinatown, I just paid in cash :-).In sum, it werent for the restroom and the how clear the receipt was, I most likely would have given it a lower rating, because if I were to rate the food alone, it simply doesnt deserve two stars.

The owner was very nice. We ordered shrimp dumpling soup and wanton soup both were bland. the shrimp dumpling itself was very good. The meat in the pot lamb dish could benefit from a more meticulous trimming process separating the lean portions from the fat and tendons would greatly improve the texture and consistency of the meat. Maybe we just didnt order the right dishes.

A small restaurant on the second floor, you do have to take stairs to get it. The clay pots come out boiling hot and the dishes are big enough to share. There’s over 100 options to choose from with many vegetarian dishes available. A great restaurant in Chinatown!

When you visit the San Francisco Bay Area, I highly recommend going to Hong Kong Clay Pot. This was a hidden gem of a restaurant. After a stroll in Chinatown, enter the doorway and up the stairs to excellent dinner. We were greeted by the hostess/server. She was friendly and helpful directing us to our table. Tea was served. We ordered the salt and pepper chicken wings, wonton soup and stir fried spicy green beans with chicken. Delivered to our table by the chef himself. All highly recommend. The meal was excellent. I suspect everything on the menu would be just as delicious. Another plus was that the dinner didn’t cost an arm and a leg. Also, we given a free 2024 year of the dragon calendar. Definitely a place to plan a visit.

Stumbled upon hole in the wall chinese restaurant tucked away atop a set of stairs in chinatown steps away from the famous lipo cocktail bar. reasonable prices and friendly service are a welcomed surprise from the typical pricy sf establishments. would come back to try their namesake clay pots but the other dishes are tasty in their own right!salt & pepper chicken wings: packs a lot of flavor, on the edge of being too salty but still tastyfried wontons: pork filled, great with the vinegarhoney walnut shrimp: enjoyed this dish but wasn’t my favorite. nice combo thoughsesame chicken: standard sesame chicken but well made and hits the spot.

Very authentic restaurant with excellent food. Two of us in our party of 3 had the deluxe menu and were in for a treat. You get great fried rice with Shrimps, Sweet/Sour Chicken AND Mongolian beef all in huge portions. You also get great green tea for free. The other person in our party had the fish hot pot and she was also very satisfied. Overall, great experience.

The food here was so delicious and authentic, I will definitely be back. The service was great and our server was very sweet and attentive. I recommend this place if you really want good authentic Cantonese food with savory sauces and tender meats. Yummy 😋

Sizzling clay pot! Decent Hong Kong food in generous portions.Wonton soup is gentle and tasty. It has about six pieces of wontons so it’s also perfect to share. Also comes with bok choi.Bitter melon isn’t very common in restaurants because the vegetable is bitter. The chef handled it well.Pot stickers are actually fried dumplings…Food is quite oily in general but otherwise tastes good.Service is friendly and fast. Price is good. Somehow Chinatown feels quite empty in the evening.

Cool, kind of quirky looking interior. I appreciated the traditional green tea at all the tables. The food is served family style and is DELICIOUS. The customer service was good although a bit difficult getting the waitress attention on a busy evening as it was when I went. I really enjoyed this place and would recommend to others.
