Hongs Market is was the first Korean grocery market in Monterey County. The current owners sister originally opened the market in 1972 and when she decided to retire sold it to the current owner and her husband. The current owner makes the best kimchi in my honest opinion out of all the Korean markets in the area. I believe the ingredients and her love for good food plays a key roll in the deliciousness of her products. Customer service is absolutely amazing. She is one of the sweetest Korean ladies I have the pleasure of knowing. Her daughter who helps on weekends is also fantastic. Im so happy this Market has lasted well over 50 years. Definitely a place I recommend.

Best Asian store around! Big selection of food for a smaller store. The owners are so sweet! They took time to recommend certain things and even explain how to make Korean dishes.

Shop at the store door is fine for me.You can find what you want at the picture on the board at the door, and tell her what you want.It’s weir but OKAY for me because the lady (Hong) she so nice.

Easily the best quality korean products around. The staff that work there are amazingly nice. They even the korean beer and soju supplies. It may be real small but it is good.

Small place, but prices better than most asian retail chains. Mostly Korean products but I get most of my Japanese food there too. Beats driving to Salinas, and a whole lot more friendly! Definitely worth a visit.👍👍👍👍

Um I didn’t know grocery shopping could be this enjoyable? What a personal experience. The woman helped us pick out each item and recommended her favorites. She was incredibly sweet and thoughtful. She said her mom makes all of the kimchi and side dishes they sell. AND their prices are fantastic. Wow. Please support this business!!

Love shopping here. Patty and her mom are very friendly and helpful. If you call ahead they will get your groceries together for you for a quick pick up. They are very knowledgeable about the products they carry and make great recommendations. The homemade kimchi is delicious. Highly recommend this market.

I LOVE THIS PLACE! The owner is so nice and really helpful. If you like kimchi, or korean side dishes, this place is the best. Also they have a Instagram page that has really delicious recipes. And guess what? They sell all the ingredients there so you can make it. So cool.

I was a little worried seeing how small the shop looked but we easily found everything we needed and more!! the owner is so sweet and she makes the kimchi and banchan herself, and they were delicious! She was also very helpful and helped us find exactly what we needed. Definitely coming back :)

Searched all over for cucumber kimchi, and the wonderfully nice lady at Hongs had some freshly made for me to buy. Made my girlfriends night! Definitely worth checking out and supporting! Support local markets!!!

My sister found them on Instagram because we were looking for meat for KBBQ or hotpot. They dont allow in-store shopping yet but just lady, who was very friendly, know what you are looking for and she will give you options. Definitely will be returning again especially when they allow in-store shopping!

Very friendly. Got most of the essentials for the average Korean or Japanese palate. They have the hard to find Japanese mayo. They even have iced coffee. Asians been doin that way before Starbucks showed up on every corner! Haha.And ask about their awesome bugogi. (Or just go to the restaurant next door)

Marina CA. Was the closest city to the armys fort ord we have the best Oriental markets for fifty miles in any direction left over from the fort ord days when military brought people from all over Asia to fort ord ....almosteverything you can find in San Francisco
