The famous local seafood store. The managers are really welcome as they are short in steak because of the incoming events so we could do a substitute for scallops and shrimp. Shrimp are in large size and be sure to be grand enough. Scallops are baked at a good temperature as the cover is crispy enough. The lobster Mac and cheese I had to say the lobster is a little bit small but the cheese is in a great amount. Might recommend eating with some lemon sauce.

The BEST Lobster rolls I’ve had in California!! Big chunks of lobster meat in the rolls. No filler! Splurge and go for the 6 ounce roll. I also ordered the Jalapeño Bomb; a pepper split open, stuffed with tuna and crab, then deep fried. They also have a happy hour and free parking for their guests. The woman that greeted us was super nice and friendly. The food + her welcoming vibes makes this place my favorite local lobster roll spot!

So this place is so hidden I go by this place all the time if a friend didn’t tell about it would never knew it was there now let’s get to the food. I ordered the lobster roll with Kasian fries. Food was pretty good. Fries loves the bun really good I don’t know actually what they could’ve done better I’m giving an 8.5 closer to nine out of 10 roll I just know that when I’ve had a roll before at oyster Broad Street I gave it a 10 but it didn’t have the same perfect score like the other place now environment it’s Ok. Will I go back to this place most likely

Quick seafood plated beautifully.Came here hungry after swimming at the back bay. Got the lobster roll and a couple orders of fish and chips. Fries were perfectly crisp and the fish was juicy whole. Lobster roll had huge chunks of fresh lobster. Enjoyed dinner here and interested in trying other offerings on the menu.

I just ate here for the first time and it was absolutely delicious. The food was perfect, I got fish & chips with the side of coleslaw. The employees were kind, and friendly. I really recommend this place to eat.

Great experience for affordable seafood in Newport! Had the grilled red snapper with mixed veggies + quinoa as I was looking for something healthy. Fish n chips was great Halibut so we both enjoyed our food and the atmosphere. Restaurant was maybe slower than normal given expected reaction to tropical storm to hit the next day.

Special poke bowl was great! Lobster roll was definitely worth it! Plenty of lobster on the 4oz portion. Fish and and chips with halibut was very fresh and perfectly done. One of the few places that have parking in the peninsula to lol. definite mom and pop feel that us small and cozy. And finally, a fish place that DOES NOT smell like old fish! can’t wait to come back and explore the peninsula more and go to the beach (.5 miles away. Great customer service and understanding.

Overall: 3.2/5 (takeout)We were in the neighborhood on a Saturday night so we walked over to Hook & Ladder and got there within half an hour of closing. After we ordered, it took about 10-15 minutes for our food to be ready. Also they charge a 3% credit card surcharge so bring cash. We got our food to go since we didnt like the vibe there.King Crab Handroll ($15): Omg this had such a pungent smell when we opened the togo box that I didnt even try it. My husband said it wasnt fresh, tasted fishy, and even had some shells in it so he rated it 1/5.4 Oz Lobster Roll With No Fries (MP - $26.50 as of 07/22/23): The fries are an extra $2. The lobster was okay and not that flavorful. They need to brush up on their butter poaching skills. We heavily used their sauce which was also just okay. The brioche bun -on the other hand - was really good and the best thing about the roll.

Seriously some of the best oysters Ive ever had!!! They were delicious! I was hesitant at first cause you just walk up and order but wow this place is sooo good! The lobster fries were delicious so much lobster and the flavor was great. I cant wait to come back and try more things. Oh and the service was soo good everyone was so nice, helpful, and always made sure we were good 👍 highly recommended this place!!

This is one of the best spots we discovered so far in Newport Beach. The employees are very friendly, including the lady at the cashier and the waiter. Both came to our table a couple of times to ask if everything was alright. All of the dishes were delicious. Their clam chowder is very flavorful, the cioppino was very good. The oysters and the scallops were very fresh as well, and the draft beer was good. The food is cooked very quickly. We really enjoyed our experience here. Definitely will be back again.

My first time here from out of town, and it wasnt a bad overall experience at all. The prices are ok, the food was good, the mac and cheese was a little small and on the dry side and not as cheesy as you think mac n cheese would be. The fried shrimp tacos were flavorful and plenty shrimp inside the taco. I also had their steamed veggies and it was really good.

This place is so good I dont know how to describe it. I didnt like seafood especially crabs and shrimps. Lobster is anther thing I never thought I would try. (But wife and daughter love these things so I give it a try today.) And amazingly, this small joint with a small parking lot, fresh lobster. We ate everything that we ordered. Lobster Mac n Cheese, Lobster fries, Surf and Turf Salmon and Steak, Clam chowder, And fresh draft beer! Note: typically the surf and turfs steak would be so-so, but today the steak was tender, juicy, and tasty. We approve this lobster, fish, and steak meal and will definitely come again!

My fiancé and I are on vacation with our four kids (16, 15, 14, & 8). It’s really hard to find a restaurant where everyone is extremely happy with their food, but Hook & Anchor knocked it out of the park!The staff were all very patient and helpful while the 6 of us were trying to figure out what we wanted. We never once felt rushed or like we were inconveniencing them.We ordered lobster fries, clam chowder, two mahi mahi tacos, two crusty crab burgers, lobster mac & cheese, and fish and chips. Everything was mouthwateringly delicious!!! We all thoroughly enjoyed our food! My 15-year-old, who doesn’t like seafood, devoured her crusty crab burger. We all walked out of there happy and stuffed.We are here on vacation from Utah, but if we lived in the area, we’d 100% frequent this little restaurant. I’ll be thinking about those loaded fries for a while!

I was looking for a delicious lobster roll, and this was the right place. Ive had cold lobster rolls before, but I ate warm lobster rolls here for the first time. Unlike cold lobster, warm lobster is softer texture and melts in my mouth. The cajun sizzling fries that came with the lobster roll were crispy and went well with the extra sauce. The ambience of the store was comfortable and the staff were friendly. There is a small parking lot next to the store. There is also a large paid parking lot behind it.

Absolutely amazing. Everything was so fresh, fast, and flavorful! We tried the clam chowder which did NOT skimp on the clams, and was the perfect portion. I had a beer battered mahi mahi taco, a beer battered shrimp taco, and the lobster taco. Each of them was absolute perfection. A little bit of spice, everything was well-balanced, and I left feeling full and happy. The staff was kind and helpful to boot—I’ll definitely be back!

What a gem!The food is simply fabulous!I had the Seafood Cioppino and dang that was the bomb! Perfectly seasoned, with a little bit of a kick… fresh fish, shrimp, scallop, clams, mussels… with a delicious tomato broth and fresh baked delicious bread!They also have a great selection of beers and other drinks!Ulisses, who was the server then was so helpful and super friendly!I’ll definitely go back when in NPB again.

9/10 recommend! Decided to come to Hook & Anchor based on Yelp reviews & we are so glad we decided to come. We ordered the Hook plate, which comes with two sides and your choice of fish (changes based on their availability). I got the halibut and quinoa & side salad. All fish comes cooked medium, so if you want it cooked all the way make sure to tell them (they didn’t mention this upon ordering). Quinoa was perfectly cooked and had amazing flavor, the halibut on the other hand, was lacking flavor but was cooked on the outside with a perfect crisp. We ordered the fish & chips, made with mahi-mahi & comes with “Cajun” fries, which were nothing to rave about honestly. They could use some tlc. It’s just a cajon seasoning thrown on regular fries. The fish itself was delicious, however. So flaky and crispy. You’ll most likely want extra tartar sauce too! Ordered the lobster Mac n cheese. It says sriracha, but there wasn’t even a hint of sriracha in it & it definitely needed more lobster in the dish. Lastly, and our favorite dish, was the crab cake burger! This was absolutely amazing. The flavors were unbelievable & everything meshed so well together. Staff was really attentive overall. They could use better seating, though.

The food and service were outstanding! Stumbled onto this place based on their reviews and boy am I glad that we did. Its a small place located in a small mall, but dont let that keep you away. The halibut and chips were cooked to perfection. The fish was warm, flack, and tasty while the batter remained crisp and never got soggy. The clam chowder was also an A+ and actually had clams in it. Everyone from their staff interacted with us during our visit. They were polite, helpful, and courteous. Hook & Anchor had a good selection of beverages, including beer and cold seltzers. Fun, indoor seating with a family-style feel, although we opted to eat on their patio. Coming back next time with a group of friends.

I liked the vibe in here, the aesthetic was that to make you feel your on a boat eating what was freshly caught. The lobster roll was brilliant in that it tastes just like what you want after being recommended it so much. The chefs way, the addition of some sauce, was a great balance of flavors together on top of the lobster and brioche. The fried oysters were great as well, but compared to some from the south it seems to lack an additional flavor. Theres plenty of stuff on the menu for another visit though, later on.

I wish their restaurant were larger because they are so good! Well worth the price and lives up to the title of “Best Lobster Roll in Ca.” We ordered the lobster roll, crab cake, and children’s salmon meal. All were excellent. The manager was kind and the wait staff was ON IT. The restaurant was also very clean (even the baseboards… like they clean heavy duty) and the wait staff was actively wiping down tables as customers left to accommodate new ones.

Gourmet seafood in an unassuming storefront. High quality ingredients. Everything home made and made from scratch. I loved the lobster mac n cheese, the clam chowder, the fish and chips. The salad was just ok, using shredded iceberg lettuce. Compared to all of the other dishes I would have expected the salad to use mixed greens. My only other constructive feedback is that all of the dishes needed salt and pepper. So if the chef would add a little more seasoning to everything then it would be perfect.

Summary: mediocre food, reasonable price for the lobster, great service, has Credit Card Surcharge, will not come back.We recently dined at this establishment and unfortunately, our experience left much to be desired. While the price of the Lobster Roll was reasonable ($28 for 4 oz), the overall quality of the food was mediocre at best.Although the dishes were presented nicely, look could be deceiving. The Lobster Roll lacked any distinctive flavors and failed to stand out in any way. Similarly, the Cole Slaw was disappointingly tasteless, adding little to the overall dining experience. The Cilantro Lime Rice was noticeably dry, lacking the moist and flavorful consistency we have enjoyed at other places.However, the Cajun Fries and Garlic Parm Lobster Fries were the only highlights, served hot and crispy. The fries were seasoned reasonably well with Cajun spices, providing a satisfying contrast to the lackluster dishes.One positive aspect of this place is the convenience of having its own parking lot, which is a bonus for customers. However, beyond this convenience, the dining experience fell short of our expectations. Additionally, it is worth noting that the place has a Credit Card Surcharge. I was not informed of this verbally before or anytime during placing the order, and only noticed it on the screen when I was about to insert my card.Considering the underwhelming quality of the food and the added charge, we will not be returning.

Always an excellent experience with my taste buds being so very satisfied. Everything on the menu is great, I especially love the grilled Romaine salad. All the fish is fresh caught Im prepared to perfection. If you like steak, they have an excellent flat iron steak that goes with the surf and turf dish and you cant lose if youre a fan if both proteins. Modern fish & chips spot in the heart of Newport Beach with indoor and outdoor seating. It sits in a small retail strip with parking thats dedicated for the restaurant. Their menu has a nice variety to choose from and theres also a small bar onsite.I tried the lobster quesadilla which was tasty, the chefs caprese salad and the fish & chips. It takes a lot to wow with fish & chips, and I wasnt blown away here. It wasnt bad though! For US fish and chips, it was a good meal. They also have whole lobster on the menu, lobster rolls too.I thought the manager on duty was great, there was even some table service by the team with a very full restaurant which was nice. It was also very clean and the furniture was nice. Highly recommend if youre on Newport Blvd looking for some seafood.

We had the Fish and chips and the Shrimp po boy. They were really good!!! The coleslaw was a $1 more and wasnt worth it, it had a very strange taste! Staff were friendly! Its a pretty small place so they only site maybe about 20-25 people. You have to order your food first and then sit down. They offer free refills on fountain drinks which is nice!

Stopped here enroute to LAX from San Diego and so glad we did. Stumbled upon this hole in the wall fish joint and will recommend it to anyone who enjoys seafood and is in the Newport Beach area. The lobster roll was second to none, even to those in Maine/Boston. The salmon plate was delightful. Had it with the chimichurri sauce. Calamari fries were super meaty. Beer battered fish taco came with a huge piece of fish and the flavor was spot on. Minimal seating and served on paper plates but we will definitely be back.

I was very disappointed this last visit. I ordered just the fish and chips. It was way too salty. The breading was terrible it was over cooked. and it tasted like it was cooked in old oil. I removed the breading to at least eat the fish but it was so dry and didnt taste fresh at all. Even the french fries were too too salty.. I dont think Ill be returning the service has definitely change.

Got the lobster fries (lobster elevates the fries), surf and turf with top sirloin and mahi mahi (delicious chimichurri sauce on steak and mahi mahi melted in the mouth), fried shrimp po boys and a side of Cajun fries (didnt eat so cant say, but my friend loved it!), and lastly the lobster Mac n cheese which was delicious!!! Best lobster ever!!!!!! And serviceI’ve been returning here every chance I get to go to Newport Beach. I wish it was closer to where I live but it’s worth the trip. I tried the delicious amazing scallops. Even the salad and dressing chef Wayne is the best chef and his team !! He makes his own sauces for the oyster were the biggest oysters and the best oysters I’ve ever tasted. I stop eating oysters because they were so chewy. These are on a different class. I truly believe that Hook & Anchor may very well serve the best lobster roll in California, if not the US. This was the single best food experience we had during our weeklong stay in the Newport area. The accompanying cajun fries are a must-have as well for the perfect experience. They offer the roll in 4oz and 6oz sizes - both sizes will leave your lobster craving satisfied, as even the 4oz size makes for a loaded roll.The clam chowder was also excellent, though it wont win any best-of when compared to chowders weve had in Boston. Im the type of person who doesnt ever know what I want to eat, so I read menus online before going to restaurants. When arriving at Hook amd Anchor I was prepared to order Clam Chowder and something else small, like a taco or some fancy fries. We were asked if we had ever been there before (no) and were welcomed and the very nice lady at the register pointed out some menu items and then showed me the brunch menu. Total game changer for me. I can get soup and fries anywhere, anytime, but Crabcake Benedicts?! Take my money now! And I was not disappointed! It was a perfect Benedict, and the crabcakes are made by hand, in house. The home style potatoes have carmalized onions and peppers and a nice blend of seasoning. My husband devoured his fish and chips (he was offered 2 or 3 fish; 2 is plenty!) and was already planning his meal for the next time we visited. Oh, and even in winter parking in Newport can be a pain, but the parking was easy with a nice lot right next to the building.

That sauce they the squirt all over them was a little spicy but Im a woose and I did fine with it. We also tried the clam chowder, deliciousness! Highly recommend.

The seafood is sooo fresh. And the quality is consistently good. Good prices and a limited but very nice adult beverage selection. We try to go there whenever were in the mood for seafood. Their Newport salad is loaded with seafood - grilled shrimp, crab and lobster plus avocado, cucumber, radishes and fresh mixed baby greens. Their salad dressing is house made.They only make one dessert- bread pudding and theirs is traditional (thank goodness). The only change I would make would be to add raisins because that is the way Ive always had it. The bourbon sauce has good flavor and is not too sweet. They offer ice cream to go with it but I like it plain. There is limited seating inside and outside. They keep getting better. Thanks Wayne 😊

Stellar spot for all things seafood. Hook & Anchor is as solid as it gets for all things seafood. A weekly ritual at this point, I’ve never been disappointed by anything from the menu. Portions are great, pricing is reasonable, the ingredients are fresh and well prepared and the flavors hit the spot.Lobster rolls are stuffed full of fresh, juicy lobster on a killer roll. Cajun fries are amazing. The seafood plates - whether the steelhead trout, salmon or my personal fav, the halibut - are perfect. Cilantro lime rice is the move with grilled veggies. Shrimp burrito is fantastic. The halibut taco is a killer, monster sized epic treat for $6. You will not go wrong with anything here. And the staff is great, friendly, attentive, great people.You can spent 3x the money at a fancier spot and you still will NOT get a better plate of fish or meal than Hook & Anchor. No doubt. The staff ask at every turn if you have questions or if they can help. The happy hour specials are really awesome even if it’s a smaller offering. And on top of everything, the food was tear-worthy.The Garlic Parm Lobster Fries were PERFECT. Cooked to perfection, seasoned well, the aioli was top notch and the lobster was proportioned wonderfully against the fries.Don’t even get me started on the Lobster Mac & Cheese. I almost cried. It was savory, cheesy, rich, deep in seasoning, the pasta was a perfect al dente, and the lobster was sweet and cut through the cheese with ease.The fresh oysters were salty, briny, and large, and were served with the typical trio of accompaniments that any established seafood dealer would provide.I would have tried more on the menu, but the portions are so perfect that if you got a second of anything, you’d ask for the entire thing in a box to take home.I cannot speak highly enough of this restaurant. This place isnphenomenal! The service was unbelievable. The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating without being fake nor intrusive. The food was simply amazing (Mahi Mahi Po Boys and cajun fries). The prices were very reasonable for Newport Beach, and the location? Newport Beach, Ca!! Was kinda reluctant going here, as Im not very familiar with eating seafood. Had the Surf and Turf option wherein I selected medium rare steak and scallops, along with a green salad and cilantro lime rice. The steak was perfectly cooked, and I discovered that scallops may be the food of the gods. The salad consisted of a mix of dark green spring lettuce, not horrible iceburg. Loved that cilantro lime rice. Definitely no longer reluctant to return for this memorable and delicious meal.

So happy I found this place. It has the tastiest food in Newport, hands down. I wanted everything on the menu but settled on the Lobster roll and the Parmesan Lobster Fries. Both were the best I ever had. I also ordered the Lobster Sriracha Mac n cheese, and that was a real foodie experience. It was way better than Mastros at half the price. If you are ever in Newport beach, dont miss out on this place. I wish I could give them 10 stars.

Consistently providing quality food. If you were to ask me about alot of restaurants that are good I wouldnt say half of them are qualifies for this compliment and this place does. Food is always fresh and delicious. The lobster is some of the best on the west coast and the service is great also. Anytime Im in or around Newport I stop by here for a lobster roll for sure. Give them a try and make up your own mind but I think you will like them and want to come back.

Got the lobster Mac and cheese. I love both of those things but not the way they put it together.👎 Also got the Parmesan siracha fries. 👎 Youre better off getting animal fries at in and out. Best part was the lobster. Seems like theyre just trying to find new ways to incorporate lobster into our favorite foods and charging up the butt, for it. In my opinion its a fail.🤮 Dont get me wrong. Im not trying to completely hate on the concept. They just need better ideas and the cheese is very oily, kind of made my stomach ache at the time. 🤝

Thee are zero bad things I can say about this place other than I wish I had the capacity to eat all the things. The staff is super awesome, friendly and with great recommendations. The ambiance is great, little spot off the street with great personality and even some live music. The food is so worth all the monies. To start, the lobster mac & cheese. I havent tried all the things, but the Hook Plate was amazing with seared fish and the Lobster Roll was great. This is a MUST VISIT if youre in the area and its only about a 15 minute walk to the beach.

Only complaint is that they didnt have 2/3 of the seafood on their menu, but that turned out to be a good thing...I got the lobster tails, instead of the swordfish, and it was delicious! Lobster tails were well cooked and were easily removed from the shells. The roasted string beans and roasted carrots were unexpectedly awesome! Their soda machine has an automatic ice maker and the decor is marine cool, they even call the bathroom the Poop Deck! A restaurant that I will definitely be returning to! You should visit it also, when in Newport Beach/Costa Mesa!

This place is the greatest seafood restaurant I have ever been to! The clam chowder in a bread bowl is the best thing here! I love it and would recommend it to anyone.
