Awesome Chinese outside of Chinatown! The owner has loud voice because he cannot hear too well and frustrated with speaking English because he doesnt speak well. Regardless, I was pleasantly surprised to find this gem hidden in a strip mall. I loved the house special chow fun. Very authentic and tasty, full of different meats and veggies. Excellent. Hot and sour soup that comes with lunch special was well done, although the portion could be a tad bit larger. The sauteed three ingredients with spicy garlic sauce (triple delight at other Chinese places) was nice. It was not as spicy as I expected, so I put some chili oil, and it was better for me. The rock cod in sizzling plate with black bean and garlic sauce was fun. The rock cod was deep fried in batter, so it was like having fish and chips without the chips but with great sauce. In the end, you get fortune cookies that says stuff like, You will get wealthier and happier or Somebody loves you. How can you not like this stuff?

The food is amazing. It’s one of my favorites in the city.But…. The service is horrible. The waiters have absolutely no positive customer service.Requesting anything from waiter (cup of water, or silverware) gets your a rude response .The most accurate description I can give when you order food from the waiter, is that of them being annoyed that they have to serve you.We’ve been coming here for 8+ years.Unfortunately, we won’t be coming back ever again.All it takes is a negative rude server to ruin an entire restaurant/ business.I hope the owners take notice

The food is over priced for what it is. It came to the table wasn’t even hot.. The waiters have no personality and actually feel hostile sometimes.. The atmosphere is depressing. I would not recommend it at all. if I could give it, no stars, that’s what it would get.

Best Chinese Seafood on the West Side. Lemon Pepper Fish is a delight. The asparagus chicken is tender with generous al dente asparagus that are super fresh. Walnut shrimp are huge and tasty. The Kung pao is perfectly seasoned. Great for take out and the lunch specials are a great deal with soup. Parking is easy. Beer and wine are also available. They have 3 locations this one and the location on Pico are the best.

This is likely my least time I will order from this place. I rated this place with 3* nine months ago. I just got take out, and the food doesnt even match with my rating from back then. Ive been a customer at this restaurant since the 90s. Massive drop off in the food. Just not as good as recently as 2022. Big disappointment especially since they charge more .

The rudest, most disrespectful experience I have ever experienced at a restaurant. I have never experienced this before.I made a reservation, showed up for it and was told we dont take reservations.Others were also waiting for their table, having made a reservation - the astonishingly rude man at the desk appeared overwhelmed, stuck out a piece of cash register paper and said heres the waiting list - he accommodated no one.Places like this should be avoided and banned. We just left.

We dont get to Hop Li very often, but every time we do it is a treat.From classics like orange chicken and fried rice to more exotic fare like jellyfish and sea cucumber, weve neven been disappointed.That said, our waiter was rushed and curt, but I think it was more a cultural thing than him being rude. The restaurant was also silent. With no background noise, it was a little too easy to hear conversations at other tables.Meals are served family style, so small groups seem to work best. Plan on spending about $20-$30 a person.

Hello Westside Google Family THANK YOU FOR GIVING ME OVER 10,000 HITS......lets start with my perception of 5 Stars:1 Star ( Needs Immediate Attention )2 Stars ( Below Expectations )3 Stars ( Meets Expectations )4 Stars ( Above Expectations )5 Stars ( Exceptional )Now with that out of the way, lets dig in!Today, I am rating Hop Li, located at 11901 Santa Monica Blvd. which should not be confused with the other Hop Li located on Pico Blvd. As a matter of fact, when ordering for pick-up they will always ask do you know my location?I have been ordering pick-up for the past 15 years and have stood by its side during the ups and downs.Let me explain based on my last take-out order.Once upon a time the restaurant was fully opened, and the dining room packed during dinner hours. However, thanks to Covid, a recent water leak and the Health Departments B rating, things have turned this establishment into a not so shinny gem.With Covid and the water leak in mind the restaurant has turned in to a 3rd of what it used to be, giving its priorities to take-out via direct ordering and the large delivery services. The West side of the dining room (catering and large party events) is a blackhole which they dont use. While on the East side (though fixed by the water damage) is a storage spot for take-out boxes and stuff the public eye shouldnt be looking at.Should you be dining in, forget about having a waiter with an attention to detail. The same guy doing all the take-out orders, coupled with running the front desk will be your waiter, busboy, cashier and just about anything else you can mention.Additionally, the no thrills dining room of having no pictures on the wall, no plants or any other decoration, not to mention no music just makes it a dining room with tables and chairs.If you can get past that we can move on to the food portion.Generally, the food is GOOD, and there are a few of my favorite dishes which I will mention in a moment. However, I have noticed inconsistency in the recipes according to who is cooking on the night you order.Some of my favorite dishes are:•Egg Drop Soup•XO Beans•Kung Pao Chicken•Honey Pepper Steak•Chicken & Vegetables•Seafood with TofuNow with over 20 years experience as a Food & Beverage General Manager for many Fortune 500 companies I can say there may be many reasons on why Hop Li received a B Grade on its latest health department inspection, some which may not be food related at all.Remember, the L.A.H.D. scores on a point bases, and one or two 6 to 8 point violations for non-food related corrections can easily put your restaurant in to a different grade very quickly.Allow me to provide a couple of examples:•If the restaurant has a burnt-out light bulb the health department will deduct 2 points from the perfect score of 100.•Should an employee have an open beverage (lets say water) in their workstation, this will cause the restaurant to lose 6 points.Please note: You can only be dinged once for a violation. So, if you have two burnt-out light bulbs, you will not lose 4 points, but only two.Im not exactly sure why Hop Li is currently at a B Grade, but I can say there really shouldnt be a reason a restaurant with a long track record like Hop Li receives such a grade.Simply said, THEY SHOULD KNOW BETTER ! ! !All things considered, at this time I can only rate Hop Li at 2 stars.If my input was helpful, I encourage you to like my post so I may continue to provide valuable feedback to the communities in which we live and the establishments in which are trusted to serve us.Until next time this is Gino D. a.k.a. ginothegem saying cheers!

Been visiting this place for close to 12 years now. No more. Quality took a huge hit, and the final straw is the staff. Completely unacceptable attitude towards customers, and spare me the cultural differences nonsense from the radical liberal mob. The people working there gave up, and they dont care. Restaurant in complete disarray, and amongst the filthiest Ive seen in many years of experience. Rudest employees and management you will find in North America.

We hadn’t been here in many years and we’re so glad that the quality of food and service were still excellent! My family enjoyed the delicious food. We enjoyed it all: The hot pot, shrimp and string beans, beef with Chinese broccoli, Mapo tofu, chicken and garlic sauce, seafood soup, bok Choy were all delicious! Such familiar and yummy flavors!

I made the mistake of opening the kitchen door wanting to go to the bathroom, but because I was distracted I got confused. He disgusted me so much that later I didnt even want to eat. The kitchen full of grease accumulated over the years, the floor, the walls, the crockery without washing for days, cockroaches on the floor and on the counter, and as if that were not enough rat traps, so they also have the entire Mickey Mouse family in your kitchen. The most unpleasant thing in the world. But thats not all, the story of an old Chinese who is too aggressive with customers. Everything is rubbish in this place. I do not recommend it to anyone!

I ordered 2 to go entrées based on the menu they handed me which with tax would be $32.24. I ordered nothing else additionally. When it came to paying the bill is $8 higher than I expected. I challenged that at which time the man pulled out another menu with different prices. If you go to a restaurant it is to eat well and to be treated in a cordial manner. None of these guidelines are met at this location. The Chinese who attends has a terrible will and everything annoys him and he answers you and treats you badly. The prices are excessive, the food tastes like old food defrosted in the microwave. The restaurant owner (I think he is the owner) added a dollar for each of my orders placed through BeyondMenu (pay in store). I asked him why and he said BeyondMenu refused to adjust price properly. Excuse me, is this my problem? As of doing business, I think he should honor what a customer had already been offered with his order. At least, you should have a proper attitude to explain and ask customer to understand. Well.... However, the food is good.

A long time restaurant four typical Chinese food but a very extended menu. We had lunch for two the place is unique in that it only has two two standard soups with Camille we paid extra to have a deluxe one ton soup which we must say is very good. Quite honestly we used to having soy sauce on the table and being served Chinese noodles as we come from back east but here in Los Angeles they do things differently the service was good the food was tasty. We paid about $35 including tip for two large dishes home lunch and the special soup I think that was a very fair price. Again it was quite tasty

Yesterday 11/7/21 was my first time at this place, based on the reviews I had high expectations about this place, and my experience was horrible. When we sat down our table was full of hairs, I told them and they saw and the waiter said those hairs were from the chili, I said i dont believe that but please clean our table, then my soup is served and what do I see as I am on my 3rd scoop, a hair! I show and tell the waiter and again he says its from the chili, I asked what chili if i didnt add chili on it nor did it come with some. They began to be rude even when serving the remaining of the food, as we are paying and walking out the waiter tells me do not come back! what kind of service is that! and why would you say such a thing when you clearly saw the hairs when you sat us down ! AWFUL dining experience never coming back!

I happily brave 405 traffic to eat here! They have the best authentic Chinese food Ive ever eaten. They give you very generous portions and the food is fairly priced. The servers arent the friendliest, but its better than having an annoying server kissing up for tips. I would eat here once a week if I lived closer.

I was in the mood to have Chinese cuisine one night, and after 45 minutes of deciding, I chose to go here. They had tables with the rotating trays called lazy susans which was cool. We had a pleasant waiter, were offered good hot tea, and assisted with the menu. I ordered the Chow Fun with the black bean sauce, and it was absolutely delicious. Really yummy and had that awesome texture youd expect from fresh, thick rice noodles. We also received a huge pot of complimentary rice! They exceeded my expectations, and I would eat here again.

Tasty Chinese food in a shopping center with plenty of free parking. Very fair prices and huge menu with a host of options, some of the nicer ones being the garlic eggplant and the shrimp dishes. They also serve you free hot tea and you get a nice fortune cookie at the end. Cozy place, nothing fancy, but great for casual dining.

Hands down best authentic Chinese food in WLA. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid... Yes at least 2 decades and before it was Hop Li this place was JR Seafood. This is a place you go to for great food... Service is straight forward - no charming you or anything. But they’ll get you what you need ASAP. Lunch specials are the best. Around $11-15 with full on rice soup etc. A la carte for dinner is pricey but it’s a lot of food. Parking is available on site/underground and on the street. I’ve made it a tradition to come here on my bday with close friends ☺️

A number of the dishes are the best in town, the lunch deals are the best in town. Yeah, the service wont win any prizes, nor the decor, nor the presentation. Somehow this branch of Hop Li makes the *food* a whole lot better than the others. Try the shrimp with walnuts, totally addictive. Mu shu chicken, outstanding. Not too many chinese food places on the westside, this is one of the better ones. My parents love coming here. Good for groups, parking is usaully not a problem.
