Good neighborhood spot.Food was good but maybe a bit greasy.Our Waiter was especially not helpful.Asking for a recommendation or some help between two dishes and he would just be abrupt and tell us to look at the chefs recommendation.

Hop Li is my familys go-to spot, especially for large gatherings. We recently celebrated my Moms 80th birthday banquet there and everything was on point. Weve also had a couple Chinese New Year family get togethers as well. In all my experiences there, the staff was attentive and helpful. When we pre-ordered my Moms banquet-style dinner, I was getting hungry, so I ordered some to-go items and they were fantastic (tomato beef chow mein with crispy noodles and a crispy chicken dish).

Short review: We got 3 items ($13 each). We both thought the Chinese food was pretty good. They overcharge for soft drinks ($4.50).Long Review: We got Chicken in Black Bean Sauce, Orange Peel Chicken and King Pao Chicken (Pictures). I enjoyed all the items. The soft drinks were $4.50 each, which in my opinion is overpriced for just a coke. The staff was really friendly and the interior is nice as well.

I was a loyal customer for more than 25 years...If previously the prices in the restaurant were moderate, which attracted many customers, now everything has become significantly more expensive... The food and service are still of good quality, however, the toilets and the pathway to them are in poor condition and not properly maintained, which causes disgust and raises suspicions about the cleanliness of the kitchen.

We ordered shrimp with green beans in black bean sauce.The shrimp had ammonia scent with slippery soggy texture. It was definitely spoiled masked by the over grilling and heavy sauce. It did not taste like the sea.Aside from mediocre service, the food was not fresh. Afterward, I was very concerned if we got food poisoning.Seafood was not FRESH.Parking can get limited. It is West LA.

I have been going to hop li in Pico for many years and before they opened the Pico location, our family always celebrated special occasions at the China Town location. The food is always spot on. Normally a bullet proof spot but avoid around Christmas. Ordered a to go order online for 3 hours laterArrived to the restaurant later than the pickup time knowing that they would be busy. It was insanity at the desk overwhelming the poor lady who just kept taking more phone orders instead of dealing with the people piling up in front. I gave up and left after trying to get info on the food more than an hour after pick up time. Wanted a nice family dinner for a party and ended up ordering pizza instead :/

This was our first time, a friend highly recommended it. We came about 3 in the afternoon (on Christmas day)...I think we showed up just before the rush. We got seated right away. The food came out very quickly...though not in the order I would expect. The soup came last! Everything was very tasty and fresh. Service was attentive. They were also doing a brisk takeout business. Well definitely try them again.

You can either pay over 25 bucks for a single dish that comes with no utensils, rice, soup, or anything really. Not to mention, it is a mediocre dish, which will not fill you up. Or you can go and spend 20 bucks at a great Chinese place like a buffet, and eat to your hearts content. Staff is rude, wait, times are long, and this place is incredibly over priced to the point that borders on fraud.

Beware with their prices as they are bait and switch to lure the customer and then later on you find out youre being charged more! The Better Business Bureau really needs to investigate this place!!The food quality has became terrible compared to a few years ago and they overprice you on all their dishes about $3 to $5 more now with smaller portions too! They also skimp or purposely do not add the certain meats or vegetables in the soups or dishes like they used to while they think its ok to still overprice me!! If Im going to be charged more I believe I should atleast receive the same portion from a few years ago. The lunch special is considered worthless and overpriced now. For the same price I now go to Panda on Westwood blvd. where I can get a 3 item combo with fried rice and chowmein for cheaper and with more satisfying food! They dont give you utensils either unless you ask and if you ask they give you attitude!! They also dont give you a full itemized receipt because they fear you will catch them overcharging you! They also try to overcharge you the same price as if I were buying shrimp fried rice! Regular white rice should be complimentary even if they just give you a little to get by considering they add more for the pricing for their entree items and also that they think theyre being clever adding a built in tip as well! Remember, always ask for a full itemized receipt and make sure its in English as well!!!

Always good food and quantity served there. Busy on weekends but usually there is a table available. Service out of the kitchen is fast and served steaming hot. Their price are reasonable. However the parking lot is small and there is a charge. Its better to park in the street or around the corner.

This place has THE WORST service out of any Chinese restaurant I have ever visited. I hesitate to write negative reviews as I have worked in the food industry, in both back of house and general manager roles, and so I understand the difficulties that can arise in the food service industry. However the repeated bad service I have endured at this restaurant over the years has forced me into writing this review. I have had both take out, and in person experiences that were beyond anything I would ever wish upon a fellow human being. Do yourself a favor and avoid the headache!

Although this restaurants food is good. There service and flexibility is low. Today, I saw their online prices which differ from the ones they have. I asked to talk to the manager, but the manager refused to acknowledge how having different prices misleads the customer. He instead kept repeating they have a new website. However, if you look them up it is not connected to their profile online. What made the situation worse is that when you ask to talk to the manager he does not give you his full attention. All this conveys the message that they do not care about their customers. In other words they dont value one much. If this is the restaurant that you want to eat from. It is up to you to decide, but this is my experience.

And HOP Li is by far the best and Freshes tasting place that I have been to. I can say this because I always order same items off the menu. This place got the Bombest Peking Duck as well. One of the best Chinese food in town. Get there between 11:00 a.m and 3 p.m and catch their lunch special served every single day. The portions is generous and comes with soup, rice and tea...delicious food! Its our friends and family go to restaurant. Their pork chops with salt & pepper are so tender and crunchy. The steam fish with fresh ginger & scallions is melt in your mouth delicious (20 mins to prepare) but well worth it. If you know you want this, tell the server to prepare before you even finish looking at the menu.

Great Chinese food. I highly recommend the Honey Walnut Shrimp, its the best Ive found around town. Unfortunately, the service isnt great. Expect your water cup to be empty until you ask for a refill. The restaurant itself looks a bit old, and it is. Ive been coming here for years and not much has changed. We have being going to the Hop Li restaurant in Chinatown for years. The West LA location is much better because it is cleaner and roomier with more tables.The food at both locations are about the same. Our favorite dishes are the Deep Fried Flounder, Walnut Shrimp, Pork Chop with Spicy Salt and Crispy Deep Fried Chicken.The service is here is great but sometimes its difficult to understand the servers because of their lack of English

Tasty Chinese food with very large portions, we always have leftovers. I generally order the beef dishes with some chicken fried rice, but my wife loves the duck and seafood here. Parking can be difficult, but there is a valet to speed things up even it it cost a few bucks. I am a repeat customer visiting about once a month and recommend you give this place a try when you are hungry!

Quick and dirty review: Cheap and fast service, pretty decent food.There is a saying when it comes to food and its Good, Cheap, Fast, choose two. This basically means that there is always a balance- very rarely are you ever going to have a perfect balance of all three.I came here for a lunch special and for less than $10, you get a large serving of your favorite entree, soup, and rice. Go with another person and you have a pretty cheap lunch.I started out with the hot and sour soup which was good but nothing special. Didnt stop me from eating the entire thing.Entrees we had were Broccoli Beef and kung pao chicken. Both were pretty good but nothing special.The service was friendly and very fast which is a big plus.Parking is hell but there is valet so that is a big plus.Overall, I would come back, but I wouldnt go out of my way to come here, as it is way on the other side of LA.

The service was somewhat poor, rushed, and confusing. One thing I ordered didnt arrive until too late, so I canceled it. Some of the dishes taste ok, but I wasnt sure if everything was cooked completely. It took too long to get drinks and the food was served haphazardly. I like this joint. It has no ambience whatsoever, and waitstaff is on the brusque side (although the busboys are super nice) but its good for when you need a solid Chinese food fix on the Westside where there is a clear dearth of Chinese food.Everything weve had there is decent from the fried pork chops to the garlic peashoots. They refused to put together the combination appetizer on account of it being a holiday. Not sure what thats about. And the waitress threw a dirty dishes Rubbermaid on the side of our table on the floor to clear a larger table instead of waiting till they left. Weve been coming here for 16 years and Ive eaten everything on the menu and just about everything is great. I stopped going for dinners because its a bit pricy, but the lunch deals are a great deal and essentially the same thing as dinner but half the cost. Here are my favorite dishes: Salted Pork Chops, Steamed Ginger Fish, Walnut Shrimp, Slippery Shrimp, Chicken and Broccoli (the beef in beef and broccoli is a bit chewy, but the chicken is devine), Sweet and Sour Shrimp (ask to have the sauce on the side so you can dip, its fresher this way and doesnt made the fried shrimp soggy. I also love the Mapo Tofu. Its not Arcadia level Chinese food, but Hop Li is the best Chinese on the Westside.
