The go-to local sushi spot for casual dining!I recently visited Hoshi Sushi in Fullerton, and I must say that it was an amazing experience. The restaurant has a 40% off menu which is a great deal for sushi lovers like me. The chefs were very friendly and accommodating. My daughter loved their sushi!I highly recommend Hoshi Sushi to anyone looking for a great sushi experience at an affordable price. My family and I come here about once a week. We usually get the spicy tuna w chips and the spicy edamame for starters. I always order a variety of sashimi. Its always good. Make sure to ask for the sashimi specials that day; oftentimes theyll have toro tuna. The staff are awesome and the main sushi chef is a rad guy!Hell sometimes make me miscellaneous off-menu toru hand rolls and whatnot as free samples. Excellent place for locals!

Absolutely love this place. The food is fantastic quality sushi. Great service! Michelle was an excellent server. I was having a bad day and Michelle absolutely changed my mood into a positive one. Just more of a reason to keep going back. We got our food to-go and the presentation was still great even packed up and labeled. This is definitely my sushi spot.

We were trying to find a place to eat at 9 p.m. and saw that this restaurant was open and decided to try it out. Turned out to be a good choice. Overall the food was 4/5 but the service and ambience was excellent. It was hopping on a Sunday night. Seems like everyone was having a great time. One item we orders was wrong and they ordered what we wanted and took off the first item off of our bill.

This place will disappoint you if you value the quality/taste of the fish and you mostly go for sashimi or nigiri rather than ordering rolls when you go to sushi restaurants. But if you just go for the rolls then this place is good enough. They have a variety of rolls offered here from ones with rice to no-rice rolls and although most combinations will taste somewhat similar with just a hint of uniqueness to it, the execution is good and I still enjoyed it. For the carpaccio, only the salmon was good and I wouldnt touch the rest. For the nigiri, I would only order the yellow tail tuna, makarel, eel or the seared salmon. The rest were horrible.. I cant believe how horrible the regular salmon nigiri was.. dinner AYCE was around $29 per person and dont leave leftovers or else theres an extra charge. The restaurant looks like a sports bar rather than a Japanese restaurant too in case that matters to you. Thanks for reading.

Very good sushi joint, with all you can eat option too. Their roll options are more original than most sushi joints, so thats a nice change. The quality of the fish is also a notch above a standard sushi joint.I loved the albacore with jalapeno sauce. Buy a beer get next for 99 cents was also nice, if you purchase all you can eat.

It was $70 for my friend and I for the all you can eat dinner with a beer and a soda. My first roll (Monster) didnt taste good and the shrimp still had the tail on it which splintered in my mouth. I was fishing it out of my teeth for the next several minutes after I spat that piece out. My other roll (Burrito King) was passable but bland. The salmon nigiri was a weird consistency and was difficult to chew. The monkey brain appetizer was made with mushrooms (which I hate) - not sure if thats normal but the last one I had at a different restaurant did not use mushrooms. The edamame was mushy and extremely bland. Gyoza was passable. They brought out some new appetizer on the house for us to try; Im not sure what it was but my friend and I both thought it was unpleasant. Overall I feel ripped off and left not with a full belly but rather just lost my appetite. Not worth the expensive bill and I most certainly will never return. If you decide to visit, bring a jacket - its very cold inside.

First time at hoshi and the quality was poor and disappointing. Their takoyaki (on the right) felt like warmed up batter with no texture and pudding-like inside. The mango salmon roll and philly roll were sad looking and tasting, and didn’t feel fresh. Everything was below average and not a restaurant quality.

This is by far my favorite sushi spot in OC. Ive been looking for one for a while and Ive been back to this restaurant at least 5 times. PreCOVID, this was an AYCE sushi restaurant. But now, they have half off everything except the bento boxes, I believe. Either way, if you eat as much as my fiancé, youll still be full eating as if its AYCE.More recently, the staff now check your temp prior to allowing to serve you, either indoor or outdoor. The first time I went, my friend didnt meet the temperature limit so she had to wait and have her temp checked again. The second time I went, the same friend and I had temps too high to be served. It was one of the hottest days we saw in October and both of us were wearing black. Needless to say, we had to wait a good 15-20 mins before our temperatures were good enough to be served. The limit is 98 degrees.I understand the safety measures the restaurant is taking, but I also understand that weather plays a huge role in the temp on a hot and sunny day.Aside from the temp checks, try all the rolls and sushi! My fav is the seared salmon. No other ayce makes a seared salmon with this sauce. I order it every time! The sauces are poured individually for you by staff and they have an online menu for contactless. My overall experience is always great.

I go to AYCE sushi when Im starving, but not all places are alike. I HAD to try this place since its rated as the top spot in OC and I was nearby. Is it overrated? Maybe, maybe not. Let me share my experience.The parking is complicated but the plaza is really nice. The buildings were all modern yet quaint, befitting its mainly college clientele. We came on a Friday night so it was fairly busy, inside the plaza and also the sushi spot. We were nevertheless seated quickly (just two of us) at a table, and were assured we could still order AYCE even though we werent at the bar.Once we sat down and ordered our drinks, we were given the standard paper sushi order menu and a pencil. This place has a LOT of fancy rolls! I think my favorite was the Superman. The basic sushi was pretty good, and served with surprisingly little rice. The tuna was particularly tender and fatty. The octopus was a but chewy, though, but thats been typical, in my experience.The only area this place seemed to be lacking in was the service. The servers seemed to be running around nonstop so it was a challenge to flag them down for a refill or another round of sushi. When we were finished eating, we waited probably 20 minutes to get the check and another 10 to pay our tab.Overall, Id say its a decent place to eat... I hate to give it only 3 stars because the sushi is great, but the service really left something to be desired. I may or may not be back, but DEFINITELY not if Im pressed for time.

I used to come here all the time for dine in when it was open, but now they are only open for takeout. And I must say I don’t really like sushi for takeout, because it doesn’t taste as good, but HOSHI DOES! We drove the sushi home, 25 min away, and it was still fantastic just like in the restaurant. We got the No 1 Roll, 3 Amigos, and Michelle roll, all wonderful. Thank you Hoshi for always doing a good job, and always providing good service when we dine-in.

Regarding late-night dining, Ive found a true gem in this sushi spot. The ambiance is electric, with a vibe that makes you want to stay all night long. The sushi is simply delicious - fresh, expertly crafted, and always satisfying. The staff is real gems, constantly checking in to ensure that youre having a fantastic time, and theyre more than happy to bring you extra rolls if youre still hungry. I have complete faith in the quality of their ingredients and would highly recommend trying their tempura rolls. Hands down one of the worst sushi places I’ve been to. Got a to-go order, they didn’t accept the discount code they told me multiple times to use, the eel sauce was a watery waste but had a gloopy top that couldn’t be stirred back in, one of the rolls wasn’t even the correct one and they all tasted like they had been frozen. Honestly I enjoyed the store bought sushi from the nearby Albertson’s more!

One of sushi-man, Andrew, rudely said, lower your voice to a reasonably talking client about some questions related to the bill over $400 which led to entire restaurant experience so disappointed and depressing at the end of the day. The quality is below the par. Their advertisement of 40% off promotion is very misleading, misrepresenting and cheating with rip off concept based on ridiculously increased prices of all menus. Unless you want to experience rip-off price and below par quality BY CHEFS, avoid going to this restaurant at all cost. You will be surprised with final bills. If any item is not applicable, then they should segregate such from the rest. Else people can be easily misled and will get surprised with final bill. Bad practice.

ROTTEN ROTTEN ROTTEN ROTTENOrdered Luxor Roll in the happy hour menu, crawfish on top of the roll was rotten, smelled like a fish market in hot summer afternoon in Cambodia. Unfortunately, me and my wife realized after eating 2 pieces since it was heavily drenched in sauces and masked by the ginger and soy sauce. Waiter addressed it right away to the chef, he admits that it smells rotten and gives us credit plus 10% off our bill. 8 hours has passed, my stomach feels funny and had diarrhea x2. The sushi man named Andrew was very rude and was not very friendly. They are not sanitary because we found a little bug one of the sushi dish. Cigarette smell was coming into the resturant. When I walked out to go the parking lot on the back side of the resturaunt, the workers were smoking with the back door of the kitchen open which I suspect where the cigarette smell was coming from. This is not right. I will not go there again.

Today, I read about their latest rodent infestation in the OC Register. Went on a dinner date an hour before they closed and we got seated right away. Perfect ambience right off the bat. Cozy seats and k-pop music playing. The menu was a qr scan code but I’m sure you can ask for a physical copy too. We ordered the nija roll, the dragon roll, and a third plate as well. Our waiter was very attentive and check in twice. Food was delicious with very little wait time for our three entrees. Would go again and definitely recommend this to someone looking for good food. They had hand sanitizer throughout the restaurant as well. Got a good bye greeting from our cashier as we were leaving.

I appreciate that this restaurant is open late on weeknights. However the sushi rolls looked and tasted tired and lifeless. Rainbow roll lacked substance (thin slices of fish). Salmon skin roll tasted slightly burnt. Definitely subpar compared to the multitude of other choices available. Staff are kind and professional.

I was disappointed, because I ordered the Chicken Teriyaki Chicken Bowl and wasnt that great, plus it was an extremely small portion for the price. The bowl was large, put the contents was a very small portion. Only a small bed of rice, very little chicken, with only one piece of Broccoli, and a few pieces of carrots. A new go-to sushi place for us. Theres not a lot of artistry in the preparation, but the quality and freshness are great. I particularly recommend the seared giant scallop and the baked mussels. Its rare to find baked mussels that arent drowning in gloppy sauce, but Hoshi gets it right.The restaurant is very clean smelling, not fishy. Finally, the prices are good.

First time at this place. There was no one in the restaurant, but the hostess still had me register my contact information in order for me to be seated, which was annoying. Should have left right then, but I was starving. They have big adverts online and on their windows saying that everything is half off. Thats only because they doubled all the prices on the menu. Kind if an underhanded and deceptive way to get people in your restaurant. The sashimi combination I order was for 10 pieces, priced at $50 on the menu. I bit into a piece and immediately knew it had been previously frozen. I get that some lower-tier sushi places will do that, but to not let it completely thaw before serving it crosses the line. The service was just as bad, but considering we are just coming out of a pandemic year and people are just getting back into the swing of things, I did not factor that into my rating. 2-stars. Not sure how this place attained its high rating. They have a full bar and the place has a club-like feel to it, so maybe they let people get drunk in there. Could that be it?

Hoshi Sushi really needs to work on their delivery process. From the kitchen to the driver to the customer, its not done well at all. We ordered delivery and it was a huge disappointment since weve been here in person several times in the past and it was never a problem. The taste was off, didnt taste fresh and the packaging was done very poorly, food was a mess and got everywhere, it was not good. I know sushi doesnt travel well but we live about about 9 minutes drive away and delivery was prompt but the food was not good, it was room temperature and felt inedible unfortunately. Ive ordered delivery from multiple sushi restaurants and the packaging here is clearly sub-standard and so was the food sadly. Id like to give them another try since theyre so close to me and update this review in the future and update this review if it changes.

I had great customer service, so I’m not sure what the other reviewers are talking about, but maybe management has responded to the negative reviews by making it a point to offer better service.I highly recommend the garlic butter edamame with teriyaki sauce…delicious.The roll I had was ok. The 50% off helps, but the regular prices on the menu are higher than most other local sushi spots I’ve been to. Including an 18% tip I paid $17 for one roll and the edamame.

I feel bad for the owner, her staff is really letting her down. We ordered a second round of 2 rolls. After being ignored for 35 minutes, the waiter finally saw my wifes disappointed face. He asked if we wanted anything else. We said we ordered over 30 minutes ago. About 15 more minutes later they brought our second orderBut marked our order sheet as if we had 3 orders. I asked for a refill on ice tea. 20 minutes later I got warm ice tea with one ice cube.The kicker... waiter asks if we want anything else. When we said the check please, he brought it back to our table in under 20 seconds.Oh well, maybe the new sushi place that will replace this one within a year will have good service.

First time visiting this restaurant and we chose the AYCE sushi. There were many choices, although a lot of them are very similar. Overall, the food was good. A couple of disappointments though. First, all of the rolls and sushi that include crab (almost all of them here) use imitation crab meat. Second, several of the rolls came to our table covered in different sauces that were neither described nor pictured in the menu. This was a problem since they will charge you $1 per left over piece of sushi and my guest that night wouldnt eat anything with the mayo sauce on it. Finally, the service was sub pat. I dont feel that anyone was explicitly rude, we were just basically ignored and had to get up several times to find a server to ask for things like napkins and drink refills. All together not a horrible experience but a bit disappointing considering the price.

Their premium sushi was nothing short of quality. I recommend almost every item in that section! Their limitless nigiris and rolls were also very lovely to eat. The fish to rice ratio was perfect to my liking and they also had a large variety of appetizers to try out as well. We definitely made our moneys worth here. You can tell that customer service, consistency, and quality is a priority for Hoshi Sushi and I could not ask for anything more of a 5-star restaurant establishment.

Update: Just a quick note. Happy hour is only Monday-Friday. Weekends it is not available.This is probably one of my go-to sushi places. Ive been going here for the past 7 years already and I have probably been going here longer than the people have been working here. Sort of recently the I believe the management changed and so they changed from Hashigo to Hoshi. The menu has pretty much stayed the same with a few additions such as udon. Overall the food is good and their happy hour is what keeps me coming back. The service is sometimes a hit or a miss ever since the management changed. More so a miss when the restaurant is busy. However, there are 2 waitresses there that know me and they definitely make sure Im taken care of. I would definitely recommend this place and I always take people here whenever they want sushi.

We got sat pretty quickly then it took about 10 minutes gor someone to come and take our order. The food came out fairly quickly, so the chefs are great!. But once we got out food we were never checked on mine and my friends drink remained empty. We had to waive one of the employees down for the check. They never came by to see hoq we were or to take any of the plates. Just HORRIBLE. They need to retrain their employees because they obviously dont care about customer service. It was good the first time. Every roll we ordered had spicy tuna. Even rolls we picked that didnt say tuna on it. Tuna rolls so similar the only difference is a dot of sirachi. We got sat tonight.....and waited and waited. About 15 minutes in someone asked if we had been served and we said no. He said hed come right back, but it didnt happen. After another 6 or 7 mins my two daughters started to get beyond bored after being angels and so patient as each employee walked past us over and over. I had had it when i watched a server or manager hustling to clean and fill another table to serve before us. I said excuse me weve been sitting for over 20 mins and no one has even asked us if we wanted drinks. A few minutes later he came back and asked who served us and then mentioned it was probably a server who had just walked out. Whatever that means. A vague insincere apology in addition to no guarantee of speed in getting our food, caused us to ultimately walk out with tired, hungry and confused kids. The menu of rolls on the table looked great and we were excited. Ill never set foot in there again. I overheard him tell another table their drinks were in the house and he was sorry for the wait. They were seated long after us and had food being served as we walked out. Horrible service or lack of service.

(Very entitled attitude, not surprised if he is owners son, which is worse) I didnt want to argue and make things worse I just say ok and pay with my debt card, while processing my payment he takes a look at my stamp card again and tells me its probably old anyways (like he shouldnt even have considered taking it in the first place). That guy is seriously horrible the last time I came he had a huge group complaining of his attitude and lack of customer service, but guess what he was the highest person you could bring a complaint too.....
