As always this place never disappoints. I get the Ruben with a twist. They make it with Pastrami and its delicious. Small business owned. The place is always clean. The staff is friendly. Whenever Im working in the area I stop by for lunch.The picture below is half of my sandwich cause I already ate the other half.

Just plain delicious! Great service and dog friendly. They have a shop pooch too. Everything was so fresh and good. Everyone was friendly and helpful. Definitely recommend as a stop for lunch if you are in the area!

Best sandwiches ever! Employees are so nice, they make great conversations. Had a blast with my friends. We had two chicken bacon ranch sandwiches and one buffalo chicken sandwich and highly recommend those! Definently going back soon!

Why would you eat anywhere else? This is the spot. Did someone say FRESH!? Oh, yeah! If the sandwich was any fresher you’d have to bake the bread yourself while simultaneously growing the vegetables. Great service and even better food!

Can someone please explain to me how I have never heard of this place until tonight?!?!?! My hubby man said I would love this place and he was NOT lying!!!!! My sandwich was so amazing!! I had the Rachel with turkey and provolone on sourdough and my mind is blown right now!!! 🤯 🤤 I am stuffed!!! The food was amazing and the customer service was the cherry on top!! The owner was awesome. He helped direct me through the menu and he was spot on with what to pick!!! The workers in the back were quick and so nice!! Great sandwiches. First tried their chicken Cesar sandwich which was good. Next few times we got cold cut sandwiches that were delicious. I’m reluctant on turkey because I’m picky but it was good and the thick kind that doesn’t taste like slimy packaged one at the store. The really fill up the sandwiches so you’re getting what you paid for and they’re pretty big sandwiches to begin with. Great customer service, they’re all very nice and the sandwiches came out fast. This has become my boyfriends favorite sandwich place

Hungry Bear is my go to joint for lunch in Vista. They have plenty of great options but my absolute favorite is their philly cheesesteak on sourdough + plus owner and staff are awesome.

Best Reuben I’ve had outside of NYC (maybe even better than the ones I had in NYC 👀). Great portions, friendly staff, local spot vibes, and the sandwich took me back to the LES. If their other sandwich’s are as good as their Reuben they’ll blow you out of the water. I’d 100% recommend this spot for you next lunch.

This place is INCREDIBLE!It was our first time there and Michael treated us like family. We asked him for recommendations and he delivered. We ended up with a cold Italian on a white roll, a hot Italian on toasted Sourdough, and a grilled ham and cheese on white for our daughter. All three sandwiches were EXCELLENT, with the meat and veggies very fresh and flavorful and they were GIGANTO!Also, the restaurant (and restroom) itself is clean and pleasant to eat in/at. We actually ate at a table outside on a blue-sky evening.Thanks Michael and Hungry Bear for a wonderful dinner! Next time were in Vista, this will be a must!

We could tell as soon as we walked in the sandwiches were going to be amazing! You could smell the awesomeness through the doors. The sandwiches are huge and very tasty. My son loves his Rachel corned beef, pastrami, on freshly baked marbel rye with Cole slaw and my cheese steak was equally as good. The potato salad tasted fresh, had dill and onions. Overall a great hidden gem in Vista!

This restaurant has a wide array of menu options. On this visit, my partner selected a pepper steak with American Cheese, and I ordered a Ruben with sauerkraut.This deli typically serves the Ruben sandwich serves by splitting the meat between corned beef and pastrami. It adds the sauerkraut between the meat slices. As a finish, they add Thousand Island dressing. I selected the marbled rye bread and asked them to only use corn beef, without any Thousand Island Dressing.Their pepper steak sandwiches are a sub-styled sandwich, and they serve the Ruben between two slices of a large size slice of rye bread. Both sandwiches were too much for us to eat in one sitting.Both of our sandwiches were satisfying and tasty.For those of us who only eat less than is available, they provide pop-up aluminum foil sheets to make the trip home simple.There are many tables in the deli and a handful outside. Seating was a problem when we arrived in the middle of the day. There is plenty of parking.

This is a true hidden gem. We originally came to get Acai but the deli was calling. And I am so glad we answered. The bread also known as the foundation of any sandwich was soft but didnt fall apart from the sandwich contents. Speaking of the contents, the hot ultimate Italian was perfect. The meat was grilled and tucked into my sandwich, placed there with love. It didnt fall out or fall apart in my hands as I bit into it. The tomatoes pickles and pepperoncinis had snap and added the right amount of zest without being overbearing.The owner and staff were amazing, he helped us through the ordering process and let us know our food would be out soon when we had been waiting only 5ish minutes. In todays age where everything is instant this place takes me back to the old time deli where you waited and were rewarded for your patience with a well build and fantastically delicious sandwich.

Caught my attention several times on Melrose and thought I would give it a try. I am so glad I did! I got something that sounded strange from a sandwich place but it turned out delicious. I got an omelette sandwich. Never heard of that before. But anyways it was delicious. Im not sure exactly what they gave me because I ordered the steak and cheese omelette sandwich but it seems more like I got a western sandwich with bacon instead of ham. Nevertheless it was EGGcelent! The sandwich was bigger than my head. Very filling and will definitely be back.

Im a former Chicago boy and have sampled Reubens from the east coast to the west and I can honestly say the reuben at the Hungry Bear Deli is, hands down, the best. From their homemade marble eye & homemade thousand island dressing, to the mile high stack of corned beef & pastrami... Add the Swiss cheese, sour kraut... Perfection in a sandwich! Today my boyfriend and I had the pleasure of eating at this wonderful deli. The costumer service went above and beyond. We were informed of all our options. The place was not only clean but very home feeling. We felt so comfortable and well taken care of. When we received our food they were huge proportion and at a good price. This place was incredible! Im relocating to the area for work staying at the hotel next door and lucky to have found this place. I got a cheesesteak that felt like home. Ill be back over and over I can tell. The bread is amazing, the meat is perfect and the staff and owner are friendly as can be. I’m in Vista for a week and i was told how great Hungry Bear is. I went for lunch and ordered the Greek Chicken. It was literally the best I’ve ever had. Everything was so good, we went back for dinner and got the ultimate Italian and my wife got the chicken Cobb salad. Both were incredible. Mike, the owner created a great experience and I’ll be back every time I’m in town. Spend your money with local owned businesses like this one.

I gave this a 4 because I ordered the philly sandwich and it just wasnt what I expected. Flavor was ok, but the sandwich itself seemed a little plain. Ive eaten here once before and that was delicious. All my coworkers absolutely love this place and rant about it. Their sandwiches looked amazing and by the looks of it, they thoroughly enjoyed it, but I just could not say the same about mine. Maybe its just that particular sandwich. I will be back to try another though!Also, staff is amazing, super friendly and kind.

First of all I want to preface the fact I am from North Carolina. The owner represents the epitome of Southern hospitality which!!! The owner and his mom are the best!!!! Best Ruben Ive ever had and I not rely a fan of Rubens!!!! My opinion is they need a franchise in Charlotte, NC. Cant wait to come back if not to eat (which Ill definitely do) but just to hang out with a couple of good brews!!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!!

Service was insanely slow. Our sandwiches were left on the counter and no one said anything about them being done until we asked for them. A Philly cheese steak was super dry and I forgot the cheese. My wifes sandwich was actually really good. I will give the bread to use for the sandwiches a 10 out of 10. The rest of the experience was about a three.

What a great place. We went for a hike in the local area she decided to grab a bite to eat at this deli. We never heard of it before and agreed we wanted to try it. The staff was incredible. Very friendly and answered some questions we had.Being that we had the puppy with us on the hike, I had asked how much it was for some plain cooked chicken meat. The lady asked the gentleman in the back and she came back and said its free of charge. We havent even placed our order yet (which was a good size one). You hardly hear of anything like this anymore, especially since the plandemic and considering how these mom and pop businesses are struggling.The food was delicious and wow, even the salad was great. Love this place! Have been going to Hungry Bear since the original location in Escondido. This location in Vista is now their only location but they updated compared to their Escondido location. The sandwiches and huge and delicious! They have some craft beer on tap from local places and their customer service is great. Hands down my go to place in North County for great sandwiches! They have a great selection of sandwiches and salads. We had the Cobb salad and the Philly cheese.The Cobb was very generous in size and the chicken was good. It was topped with full strips of bacon instead of bacon bits, which was okay but just surprising.The bread on the Philly was very good - nice and soft. The meat was very average though. They let you add pretty much whatever you want. Perhaps it needed more cheese. It was definitely missing something.The service is great and the staff is very friendly. However, I think they need to do a better job keeping the floor clean.The Hungry Bear is worth a try though.

This establishment is walking distance from my hotel. Upon arriving, the establishment had a good vibe. The cashier was very friendly and helpful. I ordered an veggie omelet sub. Hungry Bear has been my favorite sandwich shop for years. Staff is always friendly, the place is clean, theres decent parking, and the food is excellent. It is a little on the pricier side, but I think it is so worth it! They make an amazing veggie Reuben, among other things. I still miss their location in Escondido and try to make it to their Vista location as often as possible.

The place has a great vibe and they have plenty of seating. Inside and outside! And if you wanted to watch some football they have many T.V.s with the game on! The staff are super nice and helpful with the menu if you are new. I forgot his name who took our order but he was very nice and gave great recommendations. There are also salads if you want to ditch the bread! My first time here I got a Turkey bacon on Sour Dough. It was a big portion and it was so good! I definitely cant wait to have another one. 5 star experience every time. Been coming here for years. By far the best subs and sandwiches you can find in San Diego county. They are not your normal shop, as everything they do is like a specialty and they specialize in everything.Have never had a bad experience in 6years at this or their previous location is Escondido. They are priced just right or even rather low for their high quality you get here. Ive been coming to Hungry Bear for years back when they only had the Escondido location and they have always had the best sandwiches around. The new location in Vista is super nice! Went there the other day... Quality beers on tap, amazing subs, the whole menu makes my mouth water every time Im there. I just dont get to make it out as often as Id like. Been wanting them to open a location in the Inland Empire for years or even other locations around SD. They would kill it if they did.

Hungry Bear DeliWe ate at the Hungry Bear Deli one day ago. It was our first time there. ( Our son had recommended it). First of all, there are a lot of offerings there, so look at their menu online beforehand. All menu items are listed above the counter where you order. (We did not see any paper menus anywhere.). We ordered 3 sandwiches, each one different. All 3 were really good. And the prices werent an arm and a leg for sandwiches! There are sandwiches with certain ingredients, and there are design your own. Lots of different toppings. Really fresh ingredients. We will definitely go there again. So I came to this deli because I saw a lot of good reviews on Yelp and Google so I was like let me give it a try. When I walked in the place was nice and clean and the lady at the register greeted me with a smile everybody there seemed friendly. I ordered a pastrami and corned beef sandwich. First of all the menu is a little confusing and also you would think you were getting a lot of meat because you can choose up to three different types of meats for your sandwich. I was all excited expecting to devour a nice meat-filled sandwich, however when my sandwich came out it was more bread than meat. I was pretty disappointed with the portion but I do got to say the sandwich had a good flavor, but it should since its a pastrami and corned beef sandwich. The price I paid for the portion of the sandwich, was it worth it so I dont think I will be back. Customer service is good though.

This deli shop has the worst management from top to bottom, zero idea about customer service. I have gone to this place several times to buy lunch for my employees spending $70.00+ every time. I understand the need to raise prices because of the hit the pandemic has had on restaurants, and I support there decision/need to do so. The chicken was not fajita style and the ranch dressing was obviously from a bottle. The salad was a good sized portion and had a lot of good veggies. I think for $10, your fajita chicken needs to taste better than bland chicken heated up in a pan and your dressing should be homemade. Had the wheat cheese steak w/ provolone + everything (Lettuce, jalapeno, tomato, etc), and on a separate occasion, the sweet bbq steak (overflowing sandwich with ground beef and sweet sauce). Worst service, terrible food. I ordered a Turkey sandwich and it was all bread. The bread was GMO. The person who took our order looked like a gangster. We ate outside and got to breathe exhaust from the parking lot. I dont get the 4 out of 5 stars. Ive had better food at a cafeteria. This place STINKS. Dont waste your money.

The food was delicious. There was 5 different sports being played inside the restaurant. My boys loved the wooden bear outside the door holding the sign. I highly recommend this place.

Thought the sub was just OK. Not spectacular but average. There was a lot of meat but it wasnt very flavorful. Wish actually that they added more sides. Bread was rubbery. I am going to try cold ones to seee if they are any better
