Really good solid korean food. Reminds me so much of the small mom and pop shops located in ktown in LA. The portion size is huuge and soo good. We ordered the gamjatang and it was the best I ever had. The meat was so tender practically falling off the bone and the soup was super flavorful and had so much depth. They added a lot of potatos too which was a surprise! Usually restaurants are pretty stingy with the potatos for this soup. Side dishes especially the radish kimchi complemented the soup so well. The restaurant itself was pretty crowded filled with old korean people - thats when you know this is place is legit. We also ordered the galbitang for takeout and it was sooo goood!

Our first time visiting. The food is great if you like Korean food. The staff is very friendly and did a good job suggesting.

I would give zero star if it’s possible. Food portion was ridiculously small. I received couple pieces of meat in the soup and they charged $16. Seriously worst korean restaurant I’ve ever been in Orange County area. Never coming back again.

Without the Hyun & Gom, it would just only be Poong TangLocated at the former location of Happy House, Hyun Poong Gom Tang (HPGT) offers up Korean fare across from Forest Lawn in Cypress. Always on the hunt for new places to eat, I went into reviewer mode & came to see what HPGT has going on.3 banchan plates & purple rice greeted me as I perused the menu.Naturally, for my first time here, Id have to try their namesake gom tang-Simple, clean-tasting & elegant. Gom tang is a bowl consisting of hunks of beef & tripe with green onions in a hearty broth. A great hangover cure, from what I hear. No offending smell of tripe coming through the vapor, the soup was comforting to the soul. The portions of beef were tender & the tripe had a minimal amount of organ taste. One thing I found lacking was no heat. Not heat as in temperature or Hey, youre a hottie heat, but spice level. I pulled a MacGyver & dumped the chili sauce from the banchan into my bowl of gom tang, immediately satisfying my heat tooth. Probably not the authentic way of consuming gom tang, but I enjoyed it. Not a filling dish in and of itself, sans noodles or vegetables, with purple rice & having a second helping of banchan does prove satiating. For only $9 including tax, not a bad deal.I asked if sikhe (Korean rice dessert drink) came after the meal, which I was told not yet. Cest la vie!Service was good. The attendant knew some English for me to converse with her. She was surprised of my knowledge, albeit limited, of Korean cuisine. I did have to ask for something to drink, of which I had hot barley tea.Seating is available in booths, tables & a bar area. A private section which can accommodate around 20 people is available. Although, there is a drive-thru section because of the former tenant, Happy House, the window has been blocked off. Perhaps, the lane can be used for parking? Speaking of which, ample parking with Shinjuku Izakaya, a few florists & other businesses sharing the same plaza. 2 flatscreen TVs with Korean programming for your viewing pleasure.HPGT has lunch specials, too. But, theyre in Korean only! DOh! Please translate for gringos like me, sil vous plait! On a cloudy, cool, overcast day, a piping hot bowl of gom tang hit the culinary spot. Hyun Poong Gom Tang serves up Korean comfort food at affordable prices in a welcoming setting. Open early, I can definitely see myself coming back, perhaps for their soondae gook or galbi tang on another chilly day, warming up my bones with the delicious broth and a hot cup of barley tea.Highly recommend!NOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOMNOM

Waitress was very politely mannered. I was very happy how She treats senior (my dad who is 90 years old) with proper etiquette asking every scope of his needs, even when he didnt reply her back due to hearing. And of course food is always great.Thank you for Great service!

I only came here looking for hangover soup since I cant find it any where. Its on the menu, but they dont have it. The other soups I ordered instead were good. Their kimchi was fresh and really tasty. And the service was really good. Just minus one star because there was no hangover soup.

Solid delicious gomtang (beef bone broth) served here. The various kimchi are all fantastic. Just what I need this unusually wet winter

Traditional Hankook restaurant. Good soup. Not BBQ place or fancy fusion place. Tuned for commoners but good raw materials and very well priced. Healthier choice. Ask questions before you order if you don’t understand menu. Location bad.
