First time, but definitely not our last. My friend and I stopped by for lunch and really enjoyed our meals. We each ordered the 2 meat mixed that came with 2 meats, 2 sides, and 2 rolls. Enough to fill us up, plus take home for later. 😋 Hot Links and Pork ribs are flavorful and cooked perfectly. The brisket is so tender, you can cut it with your fork.

Randomly went in the place with zero expectations. Couldn’t believe how good the food was and how big the portions are. Even the directions and vibe were on point! This is going to be a weekly stop for me and my family!I ordered the burnt brisket tips! Super delicious! My son tried the hot wings wich were also amazing! Sundays they serve beef ribs! I’m going to have to come back on a Sunday!

The owner is such a welcoming guy, with some real hospitality.We got the pork belly burnt ends, brisket, mac & cheese, collard greens, baked beans and pistachio cake.The meat all had great flavor, could really taste the smokiness with the pork belly burnt ends. The Mac & Cheese was one of my favorite restaurant mac & cheese, its not dry with crunchy cheese. The collard greens were nice and tender with great flavor, not too acidic. The pistachio cake was flavorful and moist with mini chunks of pistachio.(Ordered 2 kinsman for 4 ppl but could definitely feed more with what we got).Im definitely coming back here again!

I-Que-BBQ is a must have BBQ place. If you are ever in the area do yourself a favor and get a tasty cut of meat done the right way by this small but quaint establishment. Its hard to find a place that does Mesquite smoked BBQ the right way. The balance between the smoke, the BBQ sauce, and the meat itself is top notch here and cant be rivaled by any other place in San Diego. Located in a small strip mall within a stones throw from the 94 and 125, it could be easy to miss this gem if you happen to be driving down the road.If youre like me and have dabbled in smoking meat, you know how easy it is for mesquite to overwhelm any cut of meat. Not with Tyrone, aka Coach T. It is clear he puts pride into every dish and I am honored to have had the opportunity to have met him. A gentle giant that treated me like family. With Miss P ringing you up at the order stand and greeting you with a smile how can you not feel the southern comfort that is provided by this place. I will most certainly be back and I cant recommend this place enough to anyone looking for that hole-in-the-wall home style smoky barbecue.I had the Brisket Burnt Ends sandwich, cowboy caviar, and Buffalo mac n cheese with pulled pork on top. All delicious! Other people in my party had the brisket plate and smoked ribs. Nothing but smiles and full stomachs.

OMG! Definitely the best BBQ I have had in the San Diego Area. If I say more I will be in trouble.Got the burnt ends and beans and collard greens! Too bad I am leaving today this is great. It’s also a great story of how they started during Covid.Stop and eat here!!I have to add tot he review. I had to get more food to try!!Ribs! Smoked and cooked perfect. Not falling off the bone. That perfect tenderness where you actually bite the meat off the bones! And the dirty chicken soup! You have to try that.I could eat a pot of the collard greens!

I dont usually leave reviews for places cause I dont go out to eat much, but I worked right next to this spot and know first hand its definitely good. Their brisket is my favorite, but their greens are next to my grams greens(theyre that good). Their Mac is also good, but Im used to a baked mac with the crispy cheese or bread crumbs for topping. However the creaminess of the mac and the pepper make this mac cheese super delicious. The hot links are also super good, and I love their mustard BBQ sauce. Over all, I say this place is a 10/10 between the food and awesome employees. Ive definitely recommended it to the locals I know, its a hidden gem

Best Southern BBQ Restaurant I’ve ever had ! We came on a Sunday so we had a chance to order Beef Ribs. Those Ribs were tender and well seasoned. We ordered the mixed meat meal so we got a chance to taste the wings as well. I highly recommend eating here. The food and customer service made me want to do my review while I was eating. The portions were of considerable size. The price point was a great value for money. The food was super fresh and my wait time was shorter than expected for a full course. La Mesa, you have a hidden gem, every time I visit San Diego I will eat at this Southern BBQ Restaurant.

This is a best kept secret. Missed my turn and found them trying to get back on the freeway. Really great feel when you walk in. Everyone is super friendly and the BBQ is awesome. Had ribs and their Mac n cheese is really tasty. The plate has lots of food. It is really worth coming out. They even open the door for you to come in and to go out. Would highly recommend them... bring your family and your friends you will be super happy!

Absolutely wonderful place. The food was fantastic. EVERYTHING my partner and I tried was flavorful, well made, hot and generously portioned.The space itself is clean, cute and well taken care of.Of the meats they offer - we had tried the pulled pork, chopped chicken, ribs tips and brisket. Every single one of them was great. My personal favorite was the rib tips. Of the sauces I tried the spicy mustard was the best. Not too sweet. That being said, we didnt eat a single bad thing.Their sides were also really good. We tried the collard greens, mac n cheese, baked beans and coleslaw. The best was the collard greens, hands down. The others were great but the greens were far and above superior.We met one of the owners, who was incredibly friendly, as well as everyone on staff. I couldnt have had a better experience.I highly recommend coming here. Bring your appetite!

Found this hidden spot on accident. I came here with my mom and she got the wing meal with Mac n cheese and greens. I had the durty burger (not pictured). It was around 12:15 when we came not busy and I didn’t feel rushed. We were immediately greeted by the cashier. Menu wasn’t too overwhelming and easy to navigate. Took about 10 minutes to get the food. The burger wasn’t dressed (no ketchup, mustard, Mayo) it was the bun meat and grilled onions. They gave me some BBQ that wasn’t too bad. Pictured below you see the wing meal, the oil they fried the chicken in was old hence the dark pieces. The chicken didn’t taste seasoned at all. No hint of salt or pepper on the chicken itself. Because the oil was old the flour the chicken was cooked in didn’t taste like anything at all. The greens were good. Mac n cheese tasted like black pepper and cheese. Not mad to support new businesses as they have been in this location for about 4months.

Not a real BBQ place. …based on the what was ordered…Reason 1. Brisket is cut with the grain as shown in the picture. No true BBQ place would do that or make such an amateur mistake like that.Reason 2. Brisket is bland. Was this boiled then smoked? Where’s the bark? Where’s the flavor?Reason 3. Burnt ends are delicious if you can find them. Not sure what I ordered. It was more like charred fat. Real BBQ places have a very limited supply of burnt ends and is usually sold by the pound.Reason 4. Why would you smother sauce all over the burnt ends? Why are you trying to hide the flavor? Quality BBQ does not require sauce. It’s delicious straight from the smoker…well after the meat has time to rest.What I ordered…Baked Beans: It’s edible. I debated for a very long time over whether or not I should leave this review. But Im really mad because we paid a lot of money and the food was just absolutely horrible.The greens were barely cooked. Literally they were crunchy. The mac and cheese was so thick and had so much cheese and salt that we couldnt even eat it. It was too much cheese and salt. The ribs were so tough that I couldnt eat them. Like I literally could not bite into them. And the hot links were so greasy that I had to hold one in a paper towel because there was so much grease dripping down. I dont understand how people are giving this such high reviews. I can only assume its because people here are not used to real barbecue? Im from Texas and my family is from the south so maybe were just more used to good barbecue. Anyway we will not be going back here. We spent $62 on three different plates and everything for all three of us went into the trash. Including my husbands plate and he will give anyones barbecue a chance. He got the rib tips and hes still complaining about the sauce and how tough they are.

Greens. I love greens, all greens. But Ive never been able to find any that compete with my familys recipe. Until now. Oh my.The brisket, tender and perfect. The Mac n cheese was off the hook too. A not so great plate after all . Brisket was served with out any smoke ring and the few rib’s failed to fall off the bone. I have only tried this reaturant a couple of times but I have been impressed so far. I love me some big Beef Ribs, so come here on Sundays for forca special treat. Ribs are done well and fall off the bone. They come no sauce, but the two sauces I got put the flavors over the top. I especially like their mustard style sauce and spicy bbq; it hits all the right flavors. Great local BBQ spot, be sure to give them a try if you are in the area. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu. Good-looking desserts offered also.

Called back immediately after getting back to work, was told by Owner that a note would be left so I could be compensated correctly upon my next visit. Asked owner a/ note when I returned and he acted as if conversation never happened b/c he didnt find the noteI should have never had an issue to even call back about mainly but to act as if wr cant help you if you dont remember how we didnt fulfill the order you paid over $40 for. Very good. I ordered the hot link plate, and the price is good and especially when I saw that you basically have double servings. I really wanted barbecue. And it didnt make sense for me to barbecue for one person LOL so Im glad I tried this place and I will be back!!! . The people are very sweet. And It was very neat and love how they decorated it. Honestly, not that great. If you’re coming from Texas or Austin BBQ. Please lower for expectations significantly. No smoke ring on the brisket and it was pretty bland. $26 for 4 pieces of brisket, some canned baked beans, boring bun in foil and a drink.Person at the counter wasn’t that friendly or knowledgeable . Very friendly people who made sure I had everything.Its hard to say if youll like it, because barbecue is intensely personal. Its a nice place and I hope they do well however, the brisket had no flavor except meat, did not taste smokey at all and there was no red ring. The burnt ends tasted better because of the sauce on it but still not what I was expecting. Maybe I am just used to all the Texas BBQ I eat. I do want to go back and try their beef ribs though. The best bbq place in San Diego. As we could taste the different combinations in each side the greens had an sweet yet savory very delicious. Mac&Cheese was creamy and cheesy with a hint of pepper. The smoky flavor with every bite I took of the pork ribs was something I have never experienced. The chicken wings lightly battered and seasoned perfectly . Their cornbread and cakes help me understand the true meaning of soul food as I felt and understood the love that was put into the whole meal. Thanks iQ for understanding the assignment. Durty Mac is the BEST. The brisket melts in your mouth. So good. The staff are wonderful, warm and friendly— which is a breath of fresh air these days. Tried this place for the first time today. I had the Southern Grilled Cheese Sandwich with pulled pork and a side of mac & cheese. Husband had their Durty mac & cheese with bbq chicken.
