Gross...environment. Their tables, chairs, are sticky. I would actually say it is dirty. Yes, dirty.A mess for their reception system, why everyone needs to get all the way into the cashier counter to sign in or whatever you may call. Your shop is small.If you cant do small things right, you cant do big things. Where is your cleaning SOP? training?Food looks good only. The taste and texture are sux. The rice noodle is less than my instant cup noodle... Period.I wont go back again.

Still the best Shanghainese restaurant in Bay Area. 上海菜饭 tastes just like homemade by my grandma. Pot stickers and pan fried pork buns are not comparable to the ones in Shanghai Long tang because they are not that oily but still precious to have it oversea. The glutinous rice cakes, fried spring rolls, generally most dim sums are really authentic.

Authentic place where everyone around was speaking shanghainese. Flavors are sweeter. And their xlb and fried sheng jian baos are good as well. Everything was pretty good and prices are extremely fair. Service is no frills, quick, and efficient.

The soup dumplings are the best in bayarea! They are worth driving there for a bite! There are some room for improvement regarding the tastes of the other two dishes.We highly recommend the crab-flavored soup dumpling. It has real crab meat and yolk to it, and the dough is very thin while be able to hold the soup. The other kind of soup dumpling with a crust is also so tasty!The other two dishes are the chicken and friend pork chop. I am very satisfied with their textures, tender, freshly prepared. However, the tastes are very bland. The accompanied dip sauce is on contrary too strong and too sweet. Those small things could make a difference.

Such a great find! It is definitely a place for English speakers but I was lucky enough to go with someone that speaks Mandarin! The pan fried pork buns were the highlight for me. They were full with pork and soup! The soup dumplings were good as well and the duck was delicious! 10/10 would recommend the food to anyone!

I went here for lunch today. I found a cockroach leg in my soup. I showed it to the server, she just took away my bowl without saying anything, not even an apology. She then came back after 10 mins and told me that this was the leg of a hairy crab from another dish. Did she think I am dumb or what?! Who would believe it’s a hairy crab leg?!! She then asked me if I wanted a new bowl of soup, but I refused. The restaurant didn’t waive the item from my check. They just gave me 2 pieces of dessert as compensation. Please avoid going to this restaurant because of hygiene issues and poor attitude.

Firstly, it’s NOT SHANGHAI FOOD. Their food is very sub par, if you’re not careful ordering a random dish it will not taste good. It’s like the chef only knows how to make a few good dishes. We ordered 鱼香肉丝because it was on the outside poster. The dish tasted like it was drenched in black vinegar. It was NOT EDIBLE so sour and salty. The waitress proudly said “oh we have the sweet and sour version” she did not ask what’s wrong with the food did not want to hear feedback. hello that is not a version, it tastes like picked vegetables. The table next to us ordered it too and they did not take a second bite. You should NOT serve this dish if it taste like garbage, or provide a resolution. Their other dishes were pretty bad too, the shrimp xiaolongbao was 2/5. The only thing decent was the pan grilled baozi.Do not come here for decent Chinese food.

AMAZING SHANGHAI FOOD!!! Probably the most authentic you can find in the South Bay Area. Great service too! We went before opening on a rainy evening and the restaurant opened early so that people wouldn’t get wet! My fiancé grew up in Shanghai and had been craving authentic Shanghai spring rolls cos he could never find authentic ones in the US. He said the spring rolls in this restaurant were exactly what he was looking for!

This is the best Shanghainese restaurant I have ever visited in United States. Xiao long is super nice, almost identical to that in Shanghai. Pot sticker and Xiang you Shan Hu are also pretty authentic. If you come here for first time, i would definitely suggest you should try their dim sum first.

As a Shanghainese, I love this restaurant so much. It is run by Shanghainese. The food here are real authentic Shanghai food. The taste are also very good. Both the hot dishes and dim sums are very good. It is also good for a quick bite. The only problem there is that there is a long waiting here on weekends. Arrive very early so that you dont have to wait a lot.

This place has the best soup dumplings and pan-fried pork buns that I’ve tried in the bay. The prices are a bit expensive but this really is unique in the area in terms of great quality food. Service can be a bit slow but nothing terrible. I would definitely recommend dining in over takeout as the food tends to get soggy.

We had a group of 7 and ordered 8 things. Items I liked: soup dumplings XLB, my favorite was the sweet sour pork ribs, glutinous rice roll with red bean was goodItems that are average: pan fried dumplings that I was most looking forward to was just ok - if you’ve had a good one and you’re particular you might think it is not that crispy. Beef noodle soup was a bit bland, fried shrimp meat was meh (idk if this is the traditional way but it was just shrimp nothing else with vinegar on the side), steamed dumplings with pork and glutinous rice didn’t taste like there was much meatOverall worth trying but I think a place in Newark is better for pan fried dumplings.

It’s a super popular restaurant!!!I think it’s food quality could live up to its popularity, but be prepared for long waiting, especially on weekends.We arrived at 12:04 pm with a group of four adults, and we waited outside in the hot sunshine. We got seated until 13:38, we waited a total of 1 hour 34 mins. But we were told it could be ca. 45 mins waiting time.The inside of the restaurant is very clean and organized, but very small in capacity considering it’s extreme popularity, I think the owner should at least double its capacity, both for its own businesses and also for convenience customers. :)

Hands down best Shanghai food in the US - even better than the Shanghai restaurants in LA. Here is my suggestion on what to order: just order whatever you want to try, they are all very yummy and authentic.My favorites are 生煎包小笼包白切鸡咸肉菜饭 but I only tried a few on the menu.

Great food. Too many people in line and if you dont want to wait you better arrive before the store opens. Pan fried buns are the best food they have. But all other food are pretty good. Probably the most authentic place for pan fried steam buns (生煎包). Im Shanghainese so Im extremely picky about these shenjian buns. I wont name names but Ive had others in the area and none can compare to the texture of these. They are very authentic and you can see how the aunties making them and xiaolongbao (小笼包) steamed buns through the look through glass. I think is the xiaolong is decent but the crab flavored ones are so so as the crab flavoring is not fresh as you can get in Shanghai but oh well. I however gave 4 stars purely on the shenjianbao. Unfortunately the smoked fish (熏鱼) is extremely bad and has a weird taste/smell. The rice with ham and veggies (菜饭) is undercooked and the steamed chicken is so so. Overall if only go there for shenjianbao but because its so good here Im giving it 4 stars for shenjianbao (pan fried steam buns) only.

Authentic Shanghai food. Steamed buns (xiao long bao) are the best in the Bay Area, as good as what one can expect in the best places in Shanghai! Cold cut chicken is also held to the highest standard. Has only been there twice, will recommend more after I taste more. The place is very popular, expect long waiting. To insure first seating, arrive 30 minutes earlier than the open time (11:30am and 5:30pm) and get a number.

Food is pretty good for its price. We ordered beef ramen and pork ramen; vegan steam pot sticker; and a small soup. Those ramens come with small dishes as condiments; cost only 10-20 dollar. The bowl is soo big, you can dip your whole face into the bowl. Service can be an improved; my waiter is great, but he is the only waiter. During busy lunch hours, you will have to wait to get the attention from our waiter.

Terrible dine-in experience. Waiters threw the meals heavily on the table, one of them even yelled Move to us since we blocked her.All dinnerware(plates, bowls for hot soup etc) is disposable plastic.Certain dishes are good including pan fried pork buns. But on the other hand, they don’t take cards for some reason (maybe tax related) if the order is under a certain amount (I believe its $35 or something), and on one occasion the store owner was very rude to me and yelled at me because I didn’t have cash and used Venmo.

The duck was the star of the show. Very good flavoring, soft and tender, with good amount of sauce. Every table had the same dish, so you know this is a popular item. I wished I had ordered rice to mop up the sauce with. The eel dish was popular as well and tastes different than what I had expected since I can only compare it to Japanese unagi style of cooking. Overall, the food was 3.5, but round up to 4. My gripe was that these dishes were slightly on the salty side for me.

This place is very hit or miss, but when it hits, it really knocks it out of the park. The lions head meatball (4 to a plate) are some of the best Ive ever heard on either side of the Pacific Ocean, and are stuffed with egg yolk. Creamy and savory and flavorful, the very definition of decadent. I wasnt as much a fan of the eel (texture, although normally Im much more keen on eel) and the egg with tofu, although the noodle soups were lovely. I found the egg dumplings forgettable as well. The crab xlb were excellent, though.My advice, come here for the noodle soups and the lions head meatballs. Oh—and the line is apparently insane, so bear that in mind.

The food here was very good. My husband grew up in Shanghai and said the flavors were very authentic, just what he remembers as a kid.Downside: because the food is so good, and the restaurant is fairly small inside, we ended up sharing a table with two other parties. Its hard to order a variety of dishes to try everything thats there. Still, the staff worked hard to get food to tables quickly and turn over tables as fast as they could!

All waitresses and waiters are nice and caring. This is by far the most authentic Shanghainese restaurant I have tried in the US. Their soup dumplings and pan fried dumplings are 100% legit. Skin is beautifully wrapped, thin and strong, a lot of soup, and flavoring on point. Lions head meatball and fried shrimp ball are also highly recommended. Family gathered for a birthday dinner celebration at Shanghai Flavor last weekend. The restaurant is a personal favorite one of the family members who lives nearby. Many dishes were ordered and shared family style. The round tables have large lazy Susans on each table, which makes it easy to share various dishes without having to reach across the table. Among the dishes we enjoyed were: Spicy and Sour soup, Shanghai Style Veggies and Salted Pork rice, Noodles in onion sauce, Black Pepper Beef, and home made tofu. The restaurant permitted us to bring a birthday cake and provided dishes and forks for the cake.

There are good varieties of affordable items on the menu, from noodles, shanghai dishes, cold apps, to limited dim sum. They also sell seasonal off the menu items for cash only.Why the 3 stars? The food is ok, I would say the ones we had in their Sacramento location were better.... plus not that much time for waiting (1.5 hours and we arrived at the open time)This time we had shengjian 生煎, I really loved the thin crispy skin it has, but the juice and meat inside were with too much cooking wine. Its interesting to note that they had more options during their soft opening phase instead of the current normal operations. The reason? They said they dont have time to make the other stuff. What?! Now they have a reduced menu with limited items... but not that Im complaining. Youd really want to come here for their XLBs. Most of time, its really well steamed and very tender. Even on an off day, this place is better than most others. So what are the draw backs? Its a bit more on the expensive side - not quite as bad as Din Tai Fung but not exactly a cheap thrill. Also this place is small so youll likely be waiting 20-30 min during the busiest hours. It helps to come early.

We came here on a Friday evening and 60% of tables were vacant. We were just 2 of us and none of the 2 seaters were vacant. We asked for a table and we were asked to sit in a group table with 2 vacant chairs and there were other folks on it in the middle of their dinner. When we requested for another table, the waitress said those were meant for group with 3 to 4 people only. Although most of those tables were empty.We saw 2 Asian people paying the check in a 4 seating table and were about to leave. She got us the menu to tell her what we were going to order to decide if we can sit there or not. At this point we decided we had enough and told the waitress how this was turning out to be a horrible customer service and we can no longer enjoy having our Friday night meal at this place. I want to give them 0 star.walked into restaurant at 1:45pm on a Saturday afternoon. The waiter said we are closed. I pointed out the business hours on the yelp and she didnt even bother to take a look. Then I explained we came from faraway and we walked into the store 15 mins before it should be closed, we even called to check business hours.
