All Ikes locations have the same style interior: lively colors and large print. The sandwich menu is the same though they usually have a specific city sandwich. If you dont see your favorite on the menu you can still order it or make a custom one. Most of the sandwiches cost around $10-13 depending how many meats are inside. Some extras cost more like avocado, BBQ sauce (seriously), honey!? Make sure to keep note because the prices can add up! I think the sandwiches are great quality; halal chicken, Dutch crunch bread, extras made from scratch.. but it is a sandwich so maybe not worth the price unless youre really craving a sandwich? Definitely worth trying and finding out yourself!One note, this location was really slow with orders.. only 3 people working on the weekend and 1 person was just beating meat, 1 was cleaning, 1 was making food. Pretty annoying.Pictures show meat ball sub and menage a tois.

The sub was good, I enjoyed the option to mix sauces and the menu had a variety of proteins, toppings and combinations to appeal to everybody. The wait was pretty long around lunch so call ahead or just be prepared.

Ive been coming here for years and havent had one bad sandwhich. I travel for work and have been to at least 13 different locations, but Ive found this one is the best. Quick service & some of the best employees of any restaurant Ive ever been to.

This place is wonderful for sandwiches! They have great service and fresh ingredients. I get the Sneaky Kitty with vegetarian bacon, vegan cheese and the vegan dirty sauce on Dutch crunch bread. Their menu in the restaurant has lots of choices and there are even more on the website. They are always quick to let me know the bacon is vegetarian and not vegan when I order my sandwich. They even pop a little lollipop in the bag as a treat. Ive been here many times since they opened in Emeryville and each time the service and food was very good. Love that kind of consistency.

The sandwich selection is fantastic and I have yet to try one that isnt delicious. (The Matt Cain is my favorite that Ive tried so far.) I personally like that all of the sandwiches are served hot but you can request for it to be served unheated if thats your thing. The Dutch Crunch here is stored in such a way that the outside is soft so dont order it if you want that hard crunchy outer layer that Dutch Crunch usually has.

I visited this restaurant today while I was in between medical appointments at Stanford Healthcare a block away because the other restaurants closer were closed in the late afternoon. When I walked in, the music was on loudly, and saw no employees so I went to the restroom and came back out to order and I still saw no employees. A female employee finally came out after I had been standing there now for several minutes staring at the menu board that was supposedly being updated. I told her that the menu was confusing and asked if I could just get a more normal turkey sandwich and she had no reply so I just told her what I wanted on it and without saying anything at all she just started plugging it in to the register. I then asked her if there were any zero sugar soda options besides Diet Pepsi and she told me she did not know - luckily after I first grabbed a bottled water, I saw that there was a machine with tea in it so I got that.The woman was very impolite and did not even say thank you when I paid my bill and left her a tip. I will not be going back to this place again because the staff is rude and frankly it was overpriced. A small sub sandwich and glass of tea cost me over $15.00.The sandwhich.....Very plain! The turkey they use has no flavor at all. The sanwhich was loaded with mayo and mustard and the bread must not have been a whole wheat whole grain bun because it shot my blood sugar levels through the roof. As a type 3C diabetic, I count carbs and use an insulin pump. I am normally am spot on with this practice anywhere I eat, but I was not even remotely close here.I am not sure if this chain puts their menu items on CalorieKing like most chains do, but I am guessing that they dont. If this is the case, and the ownership sees this, I would highly suggest that they get their menu items on the site because it will then become available to use with insulin pumps. If I walk into Burger King or most any franchise I can literally plug my entire meal into my device and it gives me exact carb and fiber counts so I get just the right amount of insulin needed.Lastly...This location did not set a good first impression and was overpriced for what I had. I would have been so much happier with a less expensive and tastier Subway sandwich rather than this overpriced mayo and mustard sandwich. Judging from the crowd I believe that perhaps many other people in that area also feel the same way because I saw no other customers even while dining in. The next time I have multiple appointments at Stanford, I will either pack a lunch or venture out further for a bite to eat.

I remember living in SF when there was only one location. Several years and infrequent trips later, I don’t think I’ll be wasting my time coming here anymore. With each visit, it seems like the bread has gotten a little worse, and the meat portions have gotten a lot lighter. I got a Matt Cain today and 1/3 of the sandwich had little or no meat on it. How the mighty fall. It’s no better than Subway to me anymore.

In my opinion, Ikes is pretty much the best thing that happened to the Bay in the fast, counter-order sandwich/sub world. Their creative combos are a perfect balance of flavors, and the price is pretty reasonable for the quality of the sandwich you get. The Emeryville store is the location that we visit the most often, and while the sandwiches are often amazing here, they do lack consistency from visit to visit (we usually come for dinner). Theyve forgotten the avocado thats part of the sandwich 3/4 times, and sometimes they really skimp on the extra veggies...and one time they somehow didnt have lettuce. All in all, though, still happy to have them around. Too bad they dont stay open later into the evening!

As someone who works super close by, the parking isnt an issue for me, but definitely worth noting.Sandwiches are a bit pricey but consistently tasty!!! They have good ingredients and offer options for vegans and meat eaters like myself. Also, the oatmeal cookie is pretty darn good...(I have no idea how the reviewer below can compare AND prefer a Safeway sandwich to this but to each his own...)

Really enjoyed the pilgrim and handsome owl sandwiches. Try the Dutch crunch bread for both. Visited again today and still the best Ikes in the area. Fast staff puts together tight clean sandwiches and you can tell they really take pride in them. Restaurant is super clean too.

Great Sandwiches with some interesting combinations. Tends to run a little expensive for sandwiches but they are usually generous with the amount of food you get. Sometimes too much so. Short Version: Convenient, delicious, and a good value for the area.Longer Version: It is a little expensive for a sandwich, but for the area its actually very fair and one of the best values! My favorite is the Emeryville Exclusive Crazy Stupid Love consisting of Chicken fried steak, Ikes sweet ranch, and Swiss cheese.Pro-tip: Use the app to order ahead. Went in Ikes Love and Sandwich today. Bought one mozzarella big cheese sandwich. Basically it was a chicken sandwich with honey mustard, tomatoe, and cheese. Tasted ok. I will give it a 4 star if its not for the fact that the owner/ cashier put you on the spot and asked on the keypad what percentage of tips you were giving. The choice was 15%, 20%, 30 %, etc. All I knew was there wasnt a choice for no tip. Afterall I was only buying a takeout sandwich which normally no tip is expected. So what do you do? Your sandwich has not been made yet. If you dont give tips, I will never know if the quality of my sandwich would be as good as the one that gives tips. Anyway, my sandwich cost over $13 when it was all said and done. Way overpriced even with no tip. You better off going to Subway.

Great Food!But they have a bad habit of always forgetting my soda on postmastes.Now, this isnt a one time deal. Ive ordered from Ikes at least 5 or 6 times, and of those times I have only received my soda once.I dont mind getting a refund each time. But, I do find it a bit frustrating that my drink never arrives. Im ok if theyre sold out, but, just let me know.Would give them five stars, if they didnt habitually leave out things on my order. Although the sandwiches are fantastic!

Just as good as any other Ikes. Interior is clean and roomy. Not really anywhere to park nearby, unfortunately.Ordered the crazy, stupid love sandwich (Emeryville exclusive) with chicken fried steak, was quite good despite my initial misgivings.Only kind of questionable thing is the 30¢ fee they add by default, theres a sign explaining it but its still weird how they did it.

Im not normally a fan of hot sandwiches. Its not that I dont like them - I do! Its more that most places that serve them make them too large for my taste and I end up eating only half. The other half? I havent yet found a hot sandwich that tastes good as leftovers - and I HATE to waste food. So I generally stick to cold deli sandwiches, eat half and save the rest for lunch the next day. This explains why I had no clue before today that this fairly popular regional chain even existed!Today, my boss and I went on a sales call, and we were both a bit peckish afterward. The boss suggested Ikes, describing it simply as a great sandwich shop and I, frankly not caring much about what I ate - only that I needed to eat something - said OK.Wow! My avoidance of hot sandwiches caused me to, until now, miss this gem of a chain! To begin with, their Dutch Crunch rolls are hands down, bar none, the freshest and best Ive ever had!Service was fast. You line up to order and pay, then pick up your food when your name is called. The entire process took only 6 or 7 minutes - which I consider fantastic for quality hot sandwiches made to order.As neither of us was truly hungry, just peckish, we split a sandwich - I forget its name - with (if I recall correctly) roast beef, turkey and 1 other meat - perhaps prosciutto? It melted in my mouth! All 3 meats were perfectly cooked - juicy, not dry. The sauce they use enhanced the flavors without overwhelming the meat. Quite simply - it hit the spot.My one criticism - and its not enough to knock off a star - is their drink selection. I dont drink sugary drinks and dont like the taste of diet or Sugar Free sodas. I prefer some sort of iced tea - flavored is OK as long as it isnt more than very lightly sweetened. I also prefer non carbonated drinks. With a selection of at least 30 different canned and bottled drinks, only two - bottled water and plain black iced tea - met my normal criteria. And thats my criticism - which I levy against LOTS of places - Not enough choices of flavorful, non or lightly sweetened, non carbonated drinks.

I love Ikes. Just didnt care for my experience this time. I understand that the shop was getting ready to close. My friend and I were going to eat quickly and clean our mess to be sure staff could close in a timely matter and planned on letting the staff know. Not one person greeted us.There were two women there, and as my friend and I were looking at the menu one woman walked in the back and yelled what sounded like the f word pretty loud and long winded. The other girl started singing we close in 20 mins and want to go home. To me that was a very passive aggressive way of telling us that we were an inconvenience and I felt my food would not be made with the Ikes loves that I typically experience. If I come back to this location and those two ladies are working there I am walking out and I will be sure to let my friends know. You guys are open to 7 and we should of gotten good service no matter what. We should not of been made to feel like we were interfering with their closing routine.

Went to the store and ordered in person. Been waiting 30 minutes so far and no end in site. No enforcement of Covid-related safety procedures. Ike’s new place just opened up on the corner of Powell and Hollis St. in Emeryville, kitty corner to the Chevron station. Walking in, it feels a little soul-less to be honest – the bright colors and plasticky décor isn’t particularly inviting. Most sandwiches are going to come to around $12 or $13 when you add tax and tip. So, considering the fairly hefty price tag (for a sandwich) and the reputation that precedes Ike’s Place, expectations are pretty high. I ordered the Handsome Owl sandwich, which is a combination of breaded vegan chicken, teriyaki sauce, wasabi mayo, and Swiss cheese. On top of these fillings, I think pretty much all sandwiches come with Ike’s by now famous Dirty Sauce and also some lettuce and tomato. The server was very friendly – when it came to bread choice he steered us to the Dutch crunch roll. He also explained that the vegan chicken was made by Gardein. They couldn’t reveal who made their bread, however.Bottom line: the sandwich was delicious – the flavors and textures were good. The downside is that I felt a little bit queasy about an hour after I ate it – and I actually only ate half of it – my friend who ate the other half reported the same symptoms. Is this very surprising? The sandwich is essentially built on very potent sauces – the dirty aioli, the teriyaki sauce and the wasabi mayo – all very rich in oil. Perhaps their attitude to healthiness of their food is best exemplified by their choice of caramel apple Tootsie Roll pop to accompany every sandwich – it’s made with hydrogenated oil. Who the heck uses hydrogenated oil these days?? (Hydrogenated oil = trans fats, btw). The overall message I’m getting is: these sandwiches are undoubtedly delicious, but eat them often enough and they just might kill you.In terms of social and environmental impact, I’m awarding a separate score of 3/5 green stars (it’s a thing. OK, it’s not an official thing yet, but it will be). So aside from the deliciousness and value for money, how does Ike’s do on the social and environmental front? Well, on a basic level, they do go out of their way to offer a good selection of vegetarian and vegan sandwiches. And we know by now that one of the most clear-cut ways of reducing your impact on the planet (land use, greenhouse gas emissions, impact on soil and water systems) is to reduce consumption of meat. On the other hand, Ike’s do also serve a ton of meat! It’s apparently from local farms but when it comes to their ingredients, Ike’s are not as transparent as they should be. Particularly as they are expanding – it would be nice to know that they have some kind of commitment to sustainable ingredients.Their sandwiches come wrapped in paper, inside a recycled paper bag, with recycled napkins. They offer knives and forks (non-compostable) but most people won’t need them. Ratings from employees on Glassdoor are pretty mediocre and the “sandwich artist” salary is reported as just over $11/hr. Their fountain drinks come from PepsiCo – I expected something a bit more alternative (and sustainable) for a maverick SF sandwich maker.
