Came here with two other friends on a Monday evening and it wasnt very busy. Very warm inside.Our food came pretty quickly. The 2 orders of garlic naan were great. We also got the fried eggplant which tasted quite nice (I think even if you dont like eggplant, you could try this dish since its cooked so softly it tastes like a pumpkin). Also got chicken tika masala and a saag paneer I think.Overall enjoyed my experience and could come back. Enjoy?

Lean, flavorful saag paneer and chicken curry! The naan wasn’t great, it wasn’t fluffy at all, but looking at other photos maybe they were having an off day? The curries were fantastic, loved that they weren’t covered in a layer of oil or cream. The chicken chunks were big and kind of tasted like they were baked in a tandoor. Medium spicy was very mild.

We are so lucky to have Indian oven in our neighborhood! The food is rich, full of flavor, so delicious. We typically pick up for takeout, but the dining room is always lively. The owners and servers are generous and friendly. Portions are substantial - Indian oven never disappoints!

I am sorry to say that this is one of the worst Indian Restaurants I have ever been. I remember being there before and was not that bad. Terrible Samosas, Naan, Chicken Tandori, the Chicken Korma…. The only thing that has a pass was the Tikka Masala. Until they change the chef, avoid this place.

Holy Lord Oh Mighty, I love curry. And when I tell you, Ive tried most all curry of the local spots in san francisco. BUT: when I tried this place: I was awoken, I felt like Id been cheated in my previous experiences. When I got my rice, and there was multiple bay leaves. The rice was almost a cream color. I knew. This bout to be ground breaking. It was. Order here. Dine here. TiP HeRe. Give them your damn money. This place is amazing.

The Best Indian Restaurant/Food ive ever eaten!Believe me guys ive eaten hella good indian food in the past but indian oven tops everything. The food is 10/10 and in relation to the food quality the price is amazing.Also the owner/chef is an amazing kind warm hearted person. Lovely dude with genuine passion about his cooking skills and welcoming attitude.We was in SF for 8 days and this is the only restaurant we visited twice.Absolutely recommended.

The cook was friendly and humble. The salmon was so fresh. We also had chili naan and paraantha, which were both delicious. This place is a gem hidden around Alamo Square. It is also very affordable. Interesting tidbit - although the cook makes excellent nonveggie food, he is a staunch vegetarian himself :)!

I had visited in this restaurant 2 days ago and I love this restaurant because all the things are very delicious and especially chicken tikka masala and the samosas and the rice and I love the mango lassi of this restaurant I never found this type of Foodie place in my life I heartly would recommend to all of you should go at least one time visit this restaurant and you can find the amazing experience all the staff very corporative and the service is very good they behaved very politely and even the all the things are very fresh and very hygienic so I found personally this is amazing 😍🤩 .. Very slow and seemingly chaotic service. With about 6 tables full it took 48 minutes to serve our party of four. The waitress mentioned ‘online orders’ as the reason. The food tasted good and the prices were reasonable so rating them 3 stars for that. I hope they manage to improve!

The most amazing Indian food I’ve had in SF with great hospital from the staff and owner. We ordered the seekh kebab and lamb biryani - both things were really good. Food was pretty bad. Saag paneer tasted as though the sauce was burnt and the saag itself was very tough, worst saag I’ve ever had. Chicken tikka masala was subpar, sauce was thin but the flavor was not as bad as the saag. Maybe their other dishes are better, but these two standards really missed the mark.

Delicious vegetarian options! We had the Navratan Korma, Saag paneer, and chana masala with rice and naan. My favourite dish was the Korma, but all were delicious. Friendly, fast service and well priced. I also learned it’s the oldest Indian restaurant in San Francisco! Highly recommend for dine in or takeout.

Just a shell of what it used to be. :-( Back in 2000-2001 I went here all the time - the food was amazing the service was good. Then I moved away and it changed hands. I went back in 2009 or so and it was just ok. I went back again this year (2012) and it was even worse. The decor was the same as it always has been, but the food has gone downhill even more and now to top that off the service has too. The people working there seem so unhappy and it shows in their work - I wouldnt be surprised to find sloppy sanitation. I took a friend here from out of town and was embarrassed because San Francisco has so many great restaurants, but this is no longer one of them. Ill be taking my Indian cravings elsewhere and I would encourage you to do the same.

Ok so if you actually go in I think the food is good. I’ve ordered delivery from them 4 times and it’s just insane. I always order chicken Tikka and garlic naan but they’ve given me butter chicken 3 out of the 4 times…. Do they think I don’t know the difference or something?! Why do I keep ordering you ask? They’re having a serious comeback!!!! I’m feeling badly that I petered out on my visits here a bunch of years back…. But am so happy that COVID made me go local. Saag paneer is absolutely delicious. Now for the bad. Every time I order the rice with peas I don’t get any peas :/. I ordered through Uber Eats and because I am one of those cilantro haters, I added a note at the end asking politely for no cilantro. Unfortunately, instead of stuffing my samosa with potato’s and peas, they have been stuffed with potatoes and cilantro. Not cool. Especially after tipping the restaurant 20%. Super disappointing.

Ive been twice in the last two months. Ive had their korma, curry, and tiki masala. All good, but not great. A little on the bland side honestly. They also have too many servers - both times I went they wouldnt stop pestering our table. They mean well, they just arent trained and dont know how to serve properly. I think its family/friend owned. Better off going around the corner and save a few bucks for the same quality of food.

I usually dont give such a low rating to any restaurant, especially knowing it may affect their business, but I feel my experience here reflects differently enough from other patrons that it may be helpful to others.We came here on a Sunday afternoon, after an intense workout thinking food would be quick, especially since only one other table was occupied. Our server kept checking on us and refilling water, which normally would be great service, except with an almost-empty restaurant, it was quite unnecessary to interrupt us that often when there was no food served yet.Our samosa appetizers, though delicious, took 20 minutes to come out. Our appetizer serving plates came out with hair on it (this should have been our sign to bolt!), and the sauces were removed after we were done, then returned (we believe) not refilled and wiped (hard to tell if it was our own return, but it was definitely used).Our main entrees took nearly 40 mins after to come out. The curries were both extremely mild, even though we both ordered spicy, and flavors were bland and lacking. The lamb naan came out scorched black in many areas with the lamb cold. A nice free desert was served in a small bowl, though I dont know why two spoons were already inside of it...The interior decor and ambiance is really nice, but it seems to be just a facade for substandard Indian food. I would trade ambiance (and possibly forgive cleanliness) for decent Indian, so my suggestion is save your time and go eat at Naan N Curry.

This restaurant is the worst of its kind. Do not ever go there. The service was bad, we asked for mild food and everything came spicy, and we left even before our rice and mutter paneer came. These poor workers are under payed and their boss does not treat them well at all. Very unemployed and the employees are horridly treated. Too much stress is put on the workers and this should definitely be confronted with the lousy ass manager. My whole family will never forget this experience.

This is a weird Indian restaurant, from my experience of them at least. The food was ok - not standout by any means - but obviously reheated and not particularly well reheated at that. While the inside is quite nice, the staff were a bit off. They were polite, but seemed a little scared and one of the waiters was clearly also a chef (based on attire). Maybe they were having an off night?

Having grown up in an Indian home with a mind-reading-mom-chef, its hard to satisfy my taste buds and satiate my tummy.. but Indian Oven has won me over. Every time we eat here, we are knocked out by the flavors, the quantity, and the price. I highly recommend the half order of Tandoori chicken, the Sag Paneer, the Tika Masala, the samosas, and the nan. You do not need rice with these. You and your friend ordering these will be stuffed, with the sense you have feasted. Order one order of nan, and one of above. Then order one order of mango ice cream. Total tab with tip will be about 64 bucks for two.

Everything felt like they already had made the dish and added some chilli powder after cooked . This is probably the worst biryani I had in the bay area.Its also very weird that they dont server raita with biryani.[update]I wrote this review while I was in the restaurant. Within 5 minutes after posting this review, the waiter said they were sorry about the -ve experience and offered us complimentary kheer (rice pudding). In addition to this they took the biryani off the bill. Looks like they really care about feedback and I hope this is an off case.

Im not big on Indian food, so take this review as you will. We got the Indian Oven dinner special for two to keep it simple. It ended up being more than enough food and all of it was very delicious.I wish I could remember the names of the dishes, but what I can say is it was heavy on vegetarian items, and they were all great. The meat dishes, tikka masala & lamb kebobs, had fantastic flavor and were cooked just right.To finish we had rice pudding, which was very creamy with a great flavor and texture overall.

I have sought Indian food countless cities, in many countries around the world. I have a 3 time year meeting of the Curry Club that gathers, usually each time in a different country. When were in San Francisco, Indian Oven, remains a continuing favorite. Their menu offering is the usual, but the execution is among the best. We were in the neighbourhood and decided to give this place a try. Ordered the lamb biriyani and it was dissapointing. The lamb pieces were soft and well cooked, but the biriyani itself was not good. We asked for spicy and it tasted like they just sprinkled some chilli powder on a pre-cooked biriyani. Could barely get any flavour with this over powering chilli powder taste. The raita (which had to be ordered separately) was tasty.

Between the burnt naan, obviously prepared food (you can see it sitting like buffet in thier kitchen), the unclean vents over the cooking area with dangling dust bunnies, the mouse poop by the stove, and discolored fennel seeds I just cant find anything I enjoyed. The Kheer was flavorless, lacking any hint of cardamon, nor rasins nor almonds. Thankfully I dont have to go back.

Nice restaurant right off of Fillmore. My Chicken Tikka Masala was very good! They give you free papadam cracker to eat while you wait for your food, which is delicious! Easy access via Muni if you take the 22, 71, or 6 bus. At night there are cute christmas lights on the trees outside.

Our friends at Indian Oven (on 233 Fillmore St, San Francisco) decided our $18 cash tip was not enough on our $85.37 bill (from 08/23/2015) so they added another $10 to my Amex card.
