An amazing ADULTS ONLY anniversary destination. Sager was very helpful when booking the accommodations and made great recommendations for food and activities in the area. The Kyoto room was an experience, we absolutely loved relaxing in the giant soaking tub with a cozy fire going. Loved how private the room was as its in a separate building from the main hotel and had a lovely private zen garden as well. The beach was easy walking distance from the hotel as well. My one and only complaint is that there was no minifridge or microwave in the room but honestly it was hardly missed as the rest of the accommodations more than made up for it. Definitely looking forward to staying again the next time we visit the Santa Cruz area!
If you like a little pampering..the Inn at Depot Hill might be for you.My spouse and I stayed two nights in their newer unit. The main building is a converted train depot..with some room entries on the first level that arent necessarily real private (although it makes hauling luggage a bit easier than up a flight of stairs). The converted depot is well done aesthetically...inside and out.We were greeted enthusiastically, offered complimentary fruits, chips other treats before showing us to our room. We were on the second level of the newer building. Our room had a nice private patio, remote gas fireplace, flat screen TV, great lighting (both natural and artificial), a coffee station and a wonderful bathroom . Parking was on-site. Our host showed us where everything was and how everythingworked. We enjoyed a wonderfully prepared breakfast brought to our room so we could enjoy breakfast in bed or on the patio.Our room was very quiet...something we appreciate as we get older. Very little noise from the adjacent room or from the outside. Our only hiccup was the gas fireplace in our room didnt work all the time. Wed called to get it fixed..and it started ok..but then just quit.However, our host did adjust our final payment for our troubles. We were looking forward to using the fireplace.
Have never been treated in such a unprofessional manner in my life. We had multiple instances where we tried to contact the hotel and did not reach anybody. When I mentioned this later to the manager Sagar I was told that this was my fault as I needed to leave a voicemail. This voicemail policy is nowhere on the site. We had a unfortunate family circumstance where we were unable to make the reservation as we needed to be home to support my parents. I called the hotel twice and got no pickup in the morning. I called again and reached a lady at the reception desk, I voiced to her that I would like to see if cancellation is possible, and was told the account had already been charged for my full stay. I told her that this charge was not communicated to me but that I would go through with the reservation if we were not able to get our money back. I stated that I was upset at the lack of communication/phone pick up in general with the Inn. I was told that the manager Sagar would call me back. When I was called by Sagar, he was immediately aggressive on the phone and accused me of telling everybody that he was poor at communication. He told me that we would not get a refund for this, I told him that the manner in which he was speaking to me was very aggressive, I asked him to keep things professional. I was then told that I should be grateful that he even called because he is supposed to be off right now He said because I was complaining he wanted to refuse service and threatened to cancel our reservation but WITHHOLD OUR MONEY since he already charged the card, he wanted to deny us service and and essentially STEAL our $1.4k dollars anyway?! He kept berating me on the phone for bothering him during his time off. I told him that I was not informed that he was off duty, and that it is not my fault that he decided to call on his break. In a nasty tone he then sarcastically responded to me saying that it is not his responsibility that I had a family situation. To someone who is dealing with so much stress trying to support my parents to hear my situation be referred to in such a callous and unempathetic manner was really heartbreaking. I had to repeatedly ask Sagar throughout the conversation to stop verbally attacking me. He told me that we would be staying for 3 whole days and he didnt want to interact with us, so we might as well pay and not show up. I have never heard of a hotel refusing service and charging you despite never even starting your stay. He finally apologized for being aggressive to me right off the bat to which I responded that his phone call was a negative experience, and then he snapped back that he apologized already.His behavior was very erratic as he went from verbally attacking me to promising me that Im the nicest guy you will ever meet to snapping at me again, his manner of speaking was really unsettling. If a customer has a complaint, you should listen, not attack them and threaten them. The whole stay we were very uncomfortable most times we would use the back door to leave to avoid Sagar and despite the many issues with our room we didnt feel comfortable letting anyone know because of Sagars reaction. It felt like we were walking on eggshells the whole time.This is not an isolated incident by the looks of it. Looking through the other reviews I have found multiple talking about how Sagar repeatedly raised his voice at guests and how he behaves aggressively. Im shocked that upper level management has not done anything to address this behavior and has continued to allow this man to bully customers.In terms of the accommodations, we stayed in the Portofino room, the room was spacious but had a musty scent, possibly due to the old carpeting. The walls are paper thin, so you can hear everybody in the lobby, starting at 7:15 am you hear the clatter of plates.We spent over $1,400 at this establishment and got a mediocre room and were treated with a lack of basic hospitality.
From the beginning, Sagar was very polite and accommodating. Even after I changed my room twice cause I couldn’t make up my mind, he was on top of everything and didn’t miss a beat from reservation to check out. Made me and my wife feel totally comfortable since it was our first time and the B and B experience was new for us. The room was beautiful and exactly what I wanted for a night away for us. The atmosphere is one of peace and comfort, quiet and solace, hence the adults only rule and the policy against late check-in to assure no one is disturbed. My wife and I will be returning hopefully a couple times a year for our nights away for ourselves. Would recommend to anyone who wants a cozy getaway that’s still close to so much entertainment and beauty. With gayles bakery down the street and the ocean breeze blowing in the windows, there’s not enough good I can say about it!!!
My husband and I made a last minute reservation for here even though we live locally. They were mostly booked and I chose the Cote de Azur room. *spoiler alert...this is the best room!” Romantic with the fireplace and small sitting area. This also has its own little patio and the best surprise..it’s own private enclosed outdoor tub. Top it off with this rooms own private parking spot and you feel like royalty. A short walk to the village for a great selection of restaurants makes this a perfect getaway location. The staff was so nice and breakfast was amazing too. We stayed in the Paris room a few years ago and it was beautiful too. You can’t go wrong with any of the rooms or this quaint charming Inn. Thanks Sagar for an amazing stay!
Fantastic experience! The room was clean, comfortable and nicely decorated, and we loved the private patio area. Breakfast was on time and the food itself was delicious! We appreciated the wine and cheese reception each night as well as dessert. The entire staff was welcoming, friendly and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back.
Wow! Incredible! The ambiance was amazing and the staff was incredible. We had the Railroad room which was gorgeous. Such attention to detail. The patio area is probably amazing when it isnt storming. Breakfast was pancakes, sausage and fruit. The afternoon has a wine and cheese hour and the evening has ports and desserts. Super experience
Loved this inn! Beautiful, cosy and cute. Also very clean. Our Paris styled room was big, luxurious and had a lovely fire place. We slept amazing in the great bed and loved the two-headed shower. Our hostess Mandy was the kindest person. Service was great and breakfast delicious. Hope to come back someday!
Its such a cute and quiet little place. The staff are immensely polite and kind. We stayed at the Cote dAzur room and loved it. Its about three or four blocks from the downtown village area and the beach which can be loud and overwhelming so to come back to our little secluded in was such a pleasure. We truly enjoyed the complimentary breakfast that was delivered to our room (blueberry pancakes, turkey sausage, fresh fruit, orange juice and coffee). Highly recommend this place to anyone looking to get away from the hectic silicon valley life for a quiet and simple vacation.
Its cozy and homey. They provide wine and snacks in the evening and a delicious breakfast in the morning. The employees were nice and accommodated my breakfast preferences. They also have a quiet little garden for guests. I would definitely come here again!
My husband and I stayed here for a weekend getaway and it was perfect. We stayed in Costa del Sol which was really cute with a back patio where we had breakfast each morning. The service was great and everyone was super friendly. It was a short walk to the beach and shops and just what we needed for some R & R.
What a surprising find! The Inn is absolutely wonderful and the amenities make it a great value. The grounds are lovely, sitting outside drinking wine was so relaxing. They are a short walk to the Esplanade and the beach. My husband and I enjoyed a truly romantic evening and woke up to a wonderful hot breakfast. Im looking forward to being able to stay here again.
My husband and I had a wonderful stay at Depot Hill. The breakfasts were delicious and the appetizers with wine in the late afternoon was a very nice addition.Our room was beautiful and comfortable. We sat in the quiet garden that is so lovely.Our two hosts, Louis and Sarger were awesome - they couldnt do enough for us.The Inn is in a perfect location, just a couple of blocks from Capitola Village.We will definitely come back again. Years ago, I stayed with the original owner, and the experience was exquisite and memorable. There was period furniture in the lobby and you could learn about the depot. There were snacks at 3 and at bedtime, tlc showed all over the place, the best hotel experience I ever had. The rooms are still decorated with beauty but none of the care is here. I booked the most expensive room and was looking forward to celebrating a special occasion there...No longer! Now it has been bought by a corporation who sticks bags of chips in a bowl and lazily offers a bottle of wine to send to your room... there is none of the former personalized care! And the “manager” who is a braggart and part of the new “corporation” is uncouth, has two modes straight out of bad tv, overly enthusiastic sycophant and shrilly, angrily aggressive to the point of instability. Mind you there is not a professional bone in either mode. Our family saw both sides in the span of five minutes. When I asked about some of the former handmade pastry and midnight snacks, he yelled at our family cancelled our reservation, forcibly grabbed the keys from a minor’s hand while standing over her, and threatened to call the authorities?
Perennial favorite of ours! Sagar is so personable and accommodating. Weve now stayed in 6 of the 12 rooms, and they have all been lovely in their own way. COVID has curtailed wine and cheese/ aperitifs for now, but breakfasts are still a treat. Looking forward to our next stay.
I dropped off my mom and my elderly grandmother here for them to stay for the 4th of July. The Inn was very pleasant inside. The walls are nicely decorated, the rooms are each their own theme, and they even have private hot tubs. They are indeed strict about checking in after 3pm. My mother seemed to really enjoy the stay. Easy walking distance from the ocean.
Just stopped by to meet family before dinner but was able to check out the property. Beautiful old building that had a!azing charm and very friendly staff. The room we saw was spacious with a nice sized bathroom and a large patio. Have no idea about price, but it was definitely somewhere I wouldnt mind staying.
BE AWARE! The pictures they have on website does NOT LOOK LIKE THE ACTUAL ROOM! They charged me $460 for one night and I DID NOT EVEN STAY THERE! The room was old, smelly, and dusty. The curtain on top of bed had holes. The tv was very tiny inside of a very low tv stand which you probably have to break tour neck to look at. Fireplace looked like it would explode any second. “ hot tub” was dirty I would never step a foot inside! I can not believe this hotel got a 4 star! If you are looking for a NICE, MODERN, CLEAN, Room to stay in with customer service, please do yourself a favor and stay elsewhere or you will be disappointed!
This place makes you feel like you are an important guest staying in someones very nice house. They greet you warmly when you arrive like youre arriving at a friends home. They deliver a home cooked breakfast to your room and always have coffee available. We stayed in the Kyoto room--it was like we had our own studio apartment with a private courtyard.
Avoid this place. We had the Portofino room which is supposed to include a private hot tub but the hot tub didnt work. They tried what the could but couldnt get it working. Without the tub it was a basic room with a wobbly bed, bad pillows, and a subpar shower. The happy hour and breakfast were nice but nothing extravagant which at $300+ a night I expect extravagant. For our troubles we were offered a discount on a future visit but turned it down because we have no interest in staying there again.Update: Management sent an email saying they would have helped if we told them of the issues the day we arrived... Which we did within the hour of being in the room. Very convenient for them to pretend like they would have helped after the fact when they had the opportunity to do so and didnt.
Believe the positive reviews, this place is amazing. Clean, quite, steps from the beach, hot breakfast served in your room, bath robes, wine hour in the evening, jet tub, fire place in your room, whats not to love. We are so happy we found this place.
Lovely breakfast served with care and friendliness. Evening before dinner treat was delightful. The weather was fantastic so I thoroughly took advantage of the beautiful, peaceful patio. We loved out room. Terrific.
I had been looking forward to this place for a while, sadly it really let me and my husband down. We were charged twice upon arriving. We were told that it would be the remaining balance plus 30 dollar security deposit. Ok, sounds about right. You can imagine our horror when nearly 1000 dollars was immediately deducted from our checking account. The attendant, Kara, was very rude about the whole situation. She outright refused to correct the error that she had made! We had no choice but to leave and demand a full refund. Honestly, Im still in shock. With prices like these we should have been treated with much more respect.ALSO, though the rooms are beautiful, they are dirty and outdated. This entire place is very misleading.Save your money!!!!!!
The Inn is wonderful. Weve stayed six times now. The little town down the hill has good food and the sunset is beautiful. Only knock is the cushions need to berestuffed and some of the towels were pretty worn.
Quaint and comfortable with a welcoming staff. The breakfast was exceptional.Would not recommend without a deal or gift card. Far more expensive than it should be.Tip: price drops significantly the day before if the rooms arent full.

Poor advertising on adult only. Hotel that’s adult only should be emphasized because it is so rare. I didn’t know about it until the day I checked in. They send me a welcome text, basically threatening us to check in before 8pm. Next morning the staff place breakfast outside the door, when I open the door the food was gone, seems like he’s punishing us to have a kid inside the hotel. Keep in mind, we only stay in the hotel for night and leave in the morning. Then charge us $160 extra. Where I already pain over $1000 for bad service and rudez
Great place to stay if you are vacationing in Capitola or Santa Cruz - located a few blocks from Capitola village and the beach. Service is excellent, the rooms are well appointed and surprisingly large, and the breakfast was wonderful. A bit pricey, but anyplace worth staying at on the coast is expensive.
What a beautiful place! Beautiful rooms and delicious breakfast with wine and cracker spreads with something sweet served nightly. 5 min walk to the beach and downtown capitola.Host Keytan was very welcoming. Would give this 6 stars if I could. Defiantly coming back.

This is our 4th stay at the Inn at Depot Hill this year. Our family lives in the area and Ketan Shah, the Inn’s manager, and the rest of the Inn’s staff, always takes care of us. Due to Ketan and the staff, we have already re-booked for our stay for over this up coming Christmas holiday. Ketan and the staff make sure that our room is always comfortable, clean, and well kept. They always have a smile on their faces and are always very helpful with respect to supporting our trip, arrangements, directions, suggestions, etc. the facility is a great facility. We will be staying at the Inn on a regular basis for many trips to come.

Hospitality from Sagar is great - down to earth and super friendly. The rooms are very cool - we stayed in “The Library Suite” and loved it. Good breakfast too. We will definitely return!

Great for winter visit. They dont have air conditioning so during summer time stay at the beach and go back to the inn at night when is cooler. Service is good but paying $300 to $400 us crazy.
The railroad room was quite cozy for a nights stay. The breakfast was also delicious. The staff really facilitate a relaxing and enjoyable experience.

This place is a gem. We took the Library Suite, it’s a large charming room with a library nook. The included breakfast was perfect and delicious. Definitely recommend.

Very nice rooms. Our room had a fireplace and a massive bathroom. They served the breakfast in the room. Also, they serve snacks and wine at 5.

I stayed in the Japanese inspired room and definitely recommend.Spacious, clean, lots of little details and the energy feels good.Definitely will visit again and recommend booking.Also, great location, parking, good breakfast.

2022-07-05 22:47:40Stayed for our wedding anniversary. Great location, quiet setting and top notch service. About a five minute walk to the beach. It’s uphill on the way back to the inn but manageable for those with good mobility. Stayed in-the Railroad Barron room. Very posh and lots of space including a small sitting area. All the rooms are themed so different experience each time. Reserved parking onsite at no extra cost! Breakfast was delicious and severed in your room if you like. We will be back again!

2021-02-17 00:34:04The pictures do no justice for the rooms here ♥️ I spent Valentine’s Day and booked the Kyoto room because I’ve always been a fan of Japanese culture and design ..... was so impressed the room was in the back and had its own private garage area and back patio ...... if I had to highlight one thing in the room it’s the amazing tub ..... I could literally stand up in the tub .... they provide amazing bath salts in the room everything was so amazing I truly enjoyed my stay.... the staff were very friendly and nice ..... the breakfast that is served to your room is amazing and close to shopping centers, beach, restaurants.... will definitely booking another room soon ! Can’t wait to explore the other rooms ♥️

We stayed in one of the rooms with the out door hot tub and it was absolutely magical. The staff was incredibly friendly, they accommodated gluten allergies for breakfast and had wine every night.The rooms are definitely a bit dated but clean and cozy.Highly recommend calling up the taxi that drives to and from Shadow Brook and having them pick you up for dinner! Completely free of charge and they will go all the way to the hotel.
