Sunday Brunch. Unfortunately the kitchen threw out the hollandaise sauce even tho brunch wasnt yet over, forcing my gf to select a non-benedict dish after she had already ordered. Fortunately our waiter + mgmt handled the whole thing fairly well, comped our entire meal and were very apologetic and understanding. I would go back (well before 2pm on a wknd 😊) and try again!The steak frites i got was fine, albeit not as hot as i would have liked. The juevos ranchero my gf got was good, tho the hash browns werent as crispy as they couldve been.Update: came back a few months later around the same time (after 1pm on a Sunday), brunch service was slow but available! And delicious. Server Mical killed it!Tip 1: they pre-cut the steak, so if youd prefer to cut it yourself make sure you say so.Tip 2: order the hash browns extra crispy.

First time to go there. I had a J.NICHOLS ORIGINAL burger. The meat was so juicy and tasty. I really loved it. There are a lot of dishes on the brunch menu that I want to try next time.Good service and atmosphere.

The wait was 15 min which was not to bad. Service was not as good had to ask different people for items as waitress was bust with other tables. I asked the waitress what was on the burger and she did not mention that it came with mustard so did not enjoy it that much. Fries were ok but not super hot. Wife enjoyed her omelette.

Our last day in Santa Monica and we couldn’t find any restaurant that were open or had breakfast items we wanted. We dined at the other good breakfast spots the prior days and wanted to try something different. I found J Nichols on maps outside of the area we were staying and decided to venture out. I called ahead and was told to join the wait list on the website. We arrived at the restaurant and were seated after 15 minutes so was a bit disappointed with the o line wait list. As for our breakfast experience, the service was great. The ambiance was also inviting and lively. Very busy breakfast spot. Our meals were also tasty, especially the chicken chilaquiles. The pancakes were delicious and the egg whites, onions and mushrooms were a bit on the bland side but could have been lacking a bit of salt. Meals were hearty portions and we couldn’t finish all the Turkey bacon since one portion was three slices, we had two portions. Hash was also hearty, tasty and filling. Our overall experience was satisfactory and pleasing and it was worth the 15 minute drive from Ocean drive. I may return on future visits to Santa Monica.

10 years ago, my family loved going to Nichols Cafe, which served comfort foods in a warm, Marie-Calendar-sort-of-setting. Fast forward to today & the re-vamped J Nichols Kitchen serves foodie favs in a Hillstone/Houston’s-sort-of-setting. My son & I love going to the reasonably-priced and flavorful daily happy hour specials. This was the first time I tried breakfast though. The English muffins are made-in-house and the eggs Benedict that was served over them was perfectly done. At the counter, where I was sitting, I wasn’t the only one enjoying the English muffins. The fellow next to me had them with strawberry jam (also house made)

Stop by for a quick lunch was seated quickly and shortly after our server Star ⭐ arrived to take our order. We went for a turkey burger and the J Nichols original buger🍔. The burgers were cooked to perfection and served up with delicious fries. No complaints here with the meal, atmosphere, or the service. 👍🏼

Went here on a Sunday late morning. Had a bit of a wait, about 30 minutes. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. We had the chilaquiles and the ground beef omelette with mixed greens. The outside of the omelette doesnt look like much but inside is a hidden treasure! The sourdough toast is amazing.

Excellent food! The best feta cheese ever, with tomato and onion scrambled eggs! Always ask for scrambled eggs with toppings instead of an omelette, it will be less dry every time! I went there with a friend for the first time because we were in the area and the reviews looked decent. I thought the restaurant was really nice. They had both indoor and outdoor seating (outdoor was pretty COVID friendly). The hostess was nice and our server was fantastic, super friendly.We ordered the Avocado Toast (Small Bites menu), Havana Chicken, Steak Frites and a hot matcha latte.-The hot matcha latte was a mess. Disappointingly, no latte art but not a big deal. The matcha was gritty and tasted weak. Thats really all I need to say about it.-The Avocado Toast was one of the best (if not the best) Ive ever had. Absolutely delicious, loved the orange white balsamic reduction.-Havana Chicken was surprisingly good and really moist for white meat. It tasted like it had been brined-- juicy with just the right amount of salt. I did not expect to like it that much.-Steak Frites was a disappointment. Too dry and chewy. The grilled onions on the top looked so awful. Ill share a photo but it honestly looked like a bunch of earth worms sitting on top of my meat. Tell me Im wrong.The overall presentation of the food was pretty amateur. Nothing looked all that appetizing, so the plating could definitely use some refinement. If Im in the area again, I would return and try a couple new things along with the amazing Avocado Toast again.

For the people in a rush, this restaurant is just excellent 👍, go there!For everyone else, the restaurant is really nice, cozy, clean. The tables and seats are really comfortable.I got the J Nichols burger and it was delicious. The meat was juicy and cooked to perfection as I asked. I only wish the burger didnt come cut in a half because it was a little harder to eat and avoid a mess.Anyway, the only thing that really matters is the taste and the taste was excellent!Price is right for the location and the food.Highly recommended.

Stopped into J Nichols Kitchen for some lunch and got a seriously delicious Meatloaf entree with sides of mashed potatoes and green beans. Everything was fresh, homemade and delicious. The staff was super friendly, on it and the atmosphere was comfy and warm. Give it a try, next time I will order the hot turkey sandwich to let you guys know!

I was blown away by how good EVERYTHING was!! I ordered the pancakes and pork and my boyfriend got the pacific sunrise omelet. And OMG they were both so much better than we could have imagined! The service was top notch, our server suggested some great options that did not disappoint. Even the herbal tea she suggested was so delicious Moroccan mint and golden something or other... I live super far, but this place is worth the drive. It’s not cheap, but it’s not expensive. And they definitely don’t skimp on the food.

I’m putting this review online as a warning to the management of J. Nichols to put a kibosh to this ever happening again. I have eaten here many times. The food is excellent. They’re a little pricy but a nice place to go to have an upscale meal in a casual setting. After a morning of running errands, I took myself to lunch and sat at the counter. I was greeted and I ordered. Look at the photo I posted. That’s a lot of staff behind the counter. No one in that group nor anyone else who walked past me being the counter even made eye contact with me, asked me anything, checked in with me at all. I would have liked my iced tea refilled. No. I finished my excellent club sandwich and had to call out to someone racing by me to get a check. My server who I had not seen throughout my meal was cheery and asked how everything was. I told her my thoughts and she was apologetic and asked if I wanted some more tea. I passed, I paid, and I left.I’m not going to accept poor service without calling it out. A sandwich and soft drink that costs $30 should come with some graciousness. And it’s not as though they’re short staffed. Hopefully, management will read and correct this.

They open at 8/8:30 but won’t serve you toast till 9 LOL. They give you a two sided menu and when you’ve decided what you want THEN they tell you that they don’t serve anything on the second page till 11AM and no it doesn’t say that on the menu LOL. Make sure to read all the fine print buried throughout the menu like eggs Benedict is only served on weekends never mind it’s on the menu they give you during the week LOL. $10 for a tablespoon of guacamole???? $9 for 1 pancake??? ONE PANCAKE??? LOL. What kind of restaurant charges FOR EACH ICED TEA REFILL??? When you finally get your food good luck ever seeing your server again till they present you the bill. Sadly this place has been going downhill for a while now. You’ll get infinitely better service at a McDonalds or anywhere else for that matter. Been coming here for years as I live across the street but no more! There are plenty of eating options literally next door and in the same shopping complex yet they treat you like they are the only place in town. But hey at least the seats are comfy!

I LOVE breakfast, I can skip lunch and dinner but never BF. The stars are for the waffles, it has a different take on it. They are crispy yet tasted not so ordinary I cant figure out what so special about but I will be back just for the waffles. Sausages are great as well. The first time i have ever had pulled pork on my pancakes with a fried egg on top was at this location and it was deliciously incredible. i have had the same plate at two other restaurants and they pale in comparison to the stack of pancakes and pork that i got here. i hope to come back soon and have this again as it almost looks as good as it tastes

Very clean, the atmosphere is traditional trendy if the self-invented term makes sense at all. :) This fits the Marina Del Rey neighborhood where there are large number of wealthy retirees AND trendy younger people and families. The staff is well trained, nice and professional. The food is acceptable, but is missing a trendy variety (for example, I was surprised Avocado Toast wasnt on the morning menu). Definitely a good place for eating alone, or have a chat with friend.

I didnt like the brunch menu. My steak was kinda average. If I knew they were going to cut it for me I wouldnt have ordered itYummy place. They have great breakfast. Its pricey if you compare it to IHOP but ambience and services are better. $4 coffee isnt cheap. Breakfast and coffee will set you back about $25 to $30 after taxes and tips. Thats IHOP for 2! But look at pictures! Oh so yummy. Lunch and dinner are great too.

So I’ve been here a few times on other occasions but, I had never been as wowed as I was today! I got the turkey club sandwhich and it was DELICIOUS 🤩I was very surprised this time around and I can say I am definitely coming back for this. The bread was a nice hearty, white bread sliced from a loaf so it’s very rustic but, very toasty and crispy and delicious lol holds everything together really well and evrything inside was tasty. I guess the only reason I would give this a 4 is because the bacon was really REALLY all through out, so some bites were hard and some were not and it was honestly, hard to bite through whenever I got the hard bits.. So, hopefully next time it won’t be like this but, it’s still yummy. Along with the ranch and the black pepper Mayo 🤗so yummy!

The food quality is good but it is very pricey. The service is just ok for the price that they charged. I got a pulled pork pancake and looked interesting. The pancakes are the best and highly recommended, however, the BBQ sauce from the pulled pork was great on first bite, then the sauce just too strong and not able to taste perfect pancakes.

Everything I’ve ordered here is fantastic. It’s really good quality, in a nice setting and the staff is very friendly. Their avocado toast is the best I’ve ever had- it has lots of flavor and texture and presented differently than other places. I also recommend the Sorrento Beach Bowl- a great flavorful, savory breakfast. It’s a go-to place where everything is consistently good.

Diner has been upgraded in the past couple years pretty swanky interior, very busy - friendly and attentive staff always running around I had the classic eggs benedict and split it with my sister who got the veggie eggs benedict so we each had one. Hash browns were decent not quite amazing. Hollandaise was nothing special but they do make their English muffins in the house. We also had the mournay fondue which came with a lovely soft pretzel roll.

I love, love J..Nichols!!!! :) :)Every visi is a great experience. I meet a friend here quite often on weekends & we share a waffle, bacon, & fruit. The waffles are just the best every time. Even when the waffle maker was broken & weve had pancakes, it was still so enjoyable.Theyre definitely busy on weekends. I think its worth waiting for the waffles.The servers are always super pleasant, professional & helpful.My only suggestion would be that Management makes sure the waffle maker is always working & that they have several back up waffle makers on hand. :) :)Im already looking forward to my next J..Nichols visit!!!!!!

First time back since the renaming and had the Pork and Pancakes . These pancakes were amazing! Its comparable to eating a pulled pork sandwich which has fluffy pancakes as the bun . When I asked him for recommendations, he met each of my preferences with exceeding expectations through-out my entire dining experience. I never felt an upsell or personal gain for additional money added to the tab; his suggestions were genuine and SPOT ON - Delicious! He was warm, personable, attentive, and highly professional. The food was absolutely outstanding and the ambience in the early evening is great. I ate at Nichols this week for breakfast. I have always loved there food, however, I had breakfast there this week and tried there chorizo and egg sandwich....Yuk! argh! It was awful, greasy and tasted horrible. I only ate the egg part in it. I would not recommend. I have eaten better in your local Mexican restaurants. I really liked Nichols and went there once a week for breakfast when it was a diner. Their burgers are good. I will still go there but every now and then.

If you want one step up from a high school cafeteria this is the place. Overpriced casual dining. Came here to meet a client for a lunch meeting. They made me sit on one of two very uncomfortable chairs in the doorway until my guest came. Said they could not seat me until all the party was present as it was lunchtime. Even though the restaraunt was maybe half full. I can now think of 20 other places I will book my next lunch meeting at verses this place.I would definitely not recommend this place for a business lunch.

Very disappointing to see what I would call price gouging going on at J Nichols.I ate there two weeks ago Saturday and then last Sunday 11/13/220. I ordered the same dish and was really disappointed to see that the price had risen by $3 in just 2 two weeks. Also quite a few of the appetizers had jumped up in price. When I say jumped I mean it. Not just 50c or $1 per item but $3 to $4 dollars. My dish did not even come with a vegetable ( Holiday Turkey)! I’ve lived in this neighborhood for 35 years and have constantly supported this business through its transition from a family diner to where it is now and have absorbed the frequent price increases. Your pricing has now become ridiculous. Please don’t use inflation as an excuse to price gouge. Enough is enough, you have now succeeded in losing support from myself, my family and others I know who have commented on your pricing.

I have come here many times to enjoy the food and service. However, this weekend I paid close attention to my bill, and believe it or not I was charged $9.00 for a single pancake. I asked the server was it a mistake and she told me “no.” This is ridiculous and I feel insulted. The food is of quality but I will find somewhere else to enjoy a breakfast meal. The owner clearly thinks he/she is the only place in town to eat. Price gouging is simply bad character. Sad.

I just went to this place yesterday for the first time, it was delicious! They serve breakfast until 2 pm. Theyre breakfast, lunch, and dinner options looked and sounded amazing. This is one of those places that you stair down all the different plates going out to every other table because the presentation is on point. Our server Michael told us that the English muffins were made in house so I hell yeahed to the muffin and it was perfect. We loved all the food, the flavor combos were 100%, absolute A game. The restaurant has a great presence, the vibe was fresh, relaxed, and elegant. Our server Michael is a kickass dude! We loved talking to him, he was very friendly, positive, attentive, he provided great recommendations, and he even shared inspirational wisdom with us. He is an amazing human and excellent server. I hope this restaurant takes good care of him, hes doing great things for this place. I have no complaints about anything. The meatballs were good but I have to say the heel of bread that we got for $4.50 with a little bit of butter was lacking. I ordered the salmon and it was okay. The is our ‘go-to’ spot in MDR, the food is always consistent and so is the service. I suggest making reservations in advance because they get super busy during peak times. We’ve never had a bad or unfortunate experience here and I like that we can count on the service and food quality. Strong just the way I like it...Nothing watered down like other restaurants usually serve. I ordered the cornbeef hash and eggs with sourdough toast. Everything seems to be made fresh, the hash tasted homemade and just the right amount of seasoning. The eggs were scrambled and perfectly cooked without being dry and overcooked. No water even after it had been requested and also we asked for two of the salad dressings and she brought only one. The other issue we had is this is not a restaurant for vegetarians. Ive been coming to this restaurant for years (this past year being a bit of an exception, although I did try carry-out a couple of times). I was excited to see the new feature of getting on a wait list remotely, but we still had an hour wait once we got to the restaurant -- guests were being very rude, not leaving when their 90 minutes were up. This is really annoying both for other guests who are waiting, and for the restaurant that has to be restricted in capacity due to the pandemic. But I think the staff shouldve been more aggressive about getting the other party to leave, as we were waiting for a really long time (longer than the estimated wait time when we joined the wait list -- by a long shot).The food was great, but the service was terrible -- on top of having to wait an hour for a table, we had to wait longer-than-average times for getting the menu, getting our drinks, putting in our order (food came out quickly, which was nice), and in the end, the waitress ignored us for so long (not checking on us even once after we got our food) that I had to go inside to request the check. That was ridiculous.Bad experience overall, so I will probably stay away for a while. Its a shame, the food is really quite good.

My wife has a gluten sensitivity. We just returned from trip from outside the country and found this place from online. The food is wonderful but the customer service failed. After my wife was given gluten to eat after our normal specifications we were almost treated as those customers so we got our check and headed our with no comps. The waiter became near invisible to us and the so called excellent service made us feel ghostlike.Now we head to whole foods to purchase gluten enzymes so the tail end of trip back to America isnt miserable.The food is good though. But not enough for me to raise to two stars because of the poor service.If you are apart of the growing human population that cant process gluten, think twice before coming here.

Ive been going here for years and love it. When they remodeled a couple years ago, they got off to a slow start with the food, but theyve changed chefs and restructured some things and its now one of my favorite restaurants on the Westside. If you havent been in awhile like me, go back and youll see what I mean. Theyve really done a great job making J Nichols a great dining experience.

This is a great local place for any meal. The service is good and friendly. The food is also very good, even if the menu is pretty static. It will be busy weekend mornings and evenings. We find if we get there by 6:00 pm, we are seated quickly.

Our go-to breakfast spot when we lived in MDR. We have 3 kids and they all love this place too. Finest pancakes I’ve ever had. I measure all other pancakes to these.Also love the Eggs Benedict and breakfast sando with arugula (can’t remember name right now).Great coffee to. They used to serve Verve, but I *think* they switched to a local roaster since we moved away. Last time I was there was on 2.15.2019.Pro Tip: it gets busy at 10a. Show up at 9a for a relaxing breakfast.

For some reason the waitress insisted we sit at the table by the door. Although there were multiple other tables and we expressed we were older and felt cold. She refused to give us any of the other vacant tables. Made excuses like she camt overwhelm servers. She never feels cold herself by the door. Sge was holding the other same size tables for larger parties. Then she promptly gave the other tabkes to three other couples of two. We asked for separate checks. The waiter originally gave us the correct bills then mixed them up charged the opposite cards for our meals. When we told him he just laughed and shrugged. The food was still very good as always. Their staff needs better training

Super nice servers, great food! Get the salmon burger if you go and the black pepper wings! The outdoor dining is beautiful but the wait time can get long, to-go service is always very very quick!

Amazing dinner! Wish the deviled eggs were more. 5 half’s? What happens to the other half? Food is always good and brussel sprouts are bomb. Service is always top notch and drinks are solid! We will be back!

Ive only come here for breakfast. Love the decor and booth seating. Great service. They never try to rush us out. Love the fried egg sandwich, scrambles, and avocado toast. They allow substitutions But be prepared to pay. $$$

I come in here for one reason. Friday clam chowder. Absolutely the best Ive ever had. Everything else is good too. Good beer and wine selection, good fresh coffee, all ingredients taste fresh and every dish is made to order. This is how a restaurant should be.

One would think the food would be very good, when its cooked properly and fresh! Burnt toast so hard ...ughh for the price its not worth it. Everything should be made to order today it wasnt. The service is great. The rest of my food was okay. The pancakes are large stawberry jam is fresh tea and lemonade refreshing eggs ok hash browns meh bacon yummy I suggest you order more bacon.

Excellent!!! The Reubens sandwich was so lean and prepared just like we ask. It came with sweet potatoes fries & warm sauerkraut...so delicious! And the waiter, Jennesy, was extremely sweet, very friendly and so attentive. My friend an I are both so content.

Everything is terrific at Nichols! I ordered a Roasted Beets & Feta appetizer a couple weeks ago. It was absolutely delicious! I have it several times a week now - it is my go-to dish at Nichols. Who would have thought beets would be such a show stopper?!?!? It would be beautiful and delicious for the holidays too. Very pricey for a little bit of food that wasnt cooked accordingly. They dont put the weight of the steak in the menu because its probably smaller than an 8oz fillet and then its cut to lay spread out. Asked for medium, got more on the well done side of a medium-well.

Great neighborhood restaurant in Marina del Rey. I go there entirely too often, but I’m a creature of habit. The staff is very friendly and professional. One of the servers, Nate, is one of the most friendly and outgoing guys I’ve ever encountered. He should run for governor, I think he’d win. They seem to have a good culture here.

Pork and Pancakes. Always a risk for someone from the KC metro area to order anything claiming to be BBQ, but this dish is close to the real thing. Layered pancake, pulled pork, pancake, pulled pork, pancake, pulled pork and topped with a runny egg. the pork is sweet, and that works as a breakfast item. Staff was attentive without hovering. Nice place.

Far and away the nicest restaurant in Marina del Rey. Its been our favourite for years. The food is consistently excellent, the staff are lovely and the atmosphere is perfect. It gets busy on weekends for brunch but during the week its never too crazy.We have since moved away from the Marina but we have not yet found another restaurant that can compare so we often drive all the way back for a great meal!

Was a long wait for a table on a sunday at noon(to be expected), sat at bar since it was open to walk in sit down. Seats at bar for lower and upper were a little short forcing you to raise your arms quite a bit to eat. My french dip was very good and the wait staff were friendly and on the ball as well.

Lovely upscale spot with attentive knowledgeable staff. I went on a Sunday, there was a line, but as I was dining alone my wait was very short. My delicious cappuccino came with a heart. I ordered the Breakfast BLT with hash browns. The sandwich was very tasty with strong fresh herb flavorings (basil I think). Eggs, bacon, tomato, basil?, lettuce, all the flavors worked well together. I asked for no parmesan. Hashbrowns were ok. I finished it off with a spot of tea - golden nectar herbal with rose petals. Delightful & flavorful!

Food is consistently above average and theres something on the list for everyone: kids, meat eaters, pescaterians, salad lovers... I cant visit without getting the deviled eggs. This and the reuben are my personal favorites. But the burger is also excellent, as well as the short rib. Takeout is fast but why eat at home when This neighborhood hang is so nice to sit in with a consistently solid wine menu and great sevice. One word sums it up: reliable ... ok two ... Reliable and standout.

I go here all the time. Blueberry Pancakes are a goto when I get breakfast. I also often get the BBQ sandwich on pretzel bun and FF for lunch. Brussel sprouts are really great too. The Greek cheesecake is my favorite dessert. Ive tried most of the menu and always been impressed.

The best restaurant I have ever been to, period. Although there is usually a wait, J Nichols is absolutely worth it. The atmosphere is very upscale, and dishes are made from scratch using mostly organic or local ingredients. If you are in Marina del Rey, you have to go to J Nichols.

The staff was very friendly since we got there at the front desk, we had an small wait of 10 mins then we got seated, checked the menu and saw great options for breakfast since they stop serving at 2pm...I was craving some French Toast so I decided to go with the Combo that comes with eggs, bacon or sausage, added some seasonal fruits and honestly when I got my plate I was like whos gonna eat all this, servings are huge....I definitely recommend this place....food have a lot of flavor.

We enjoy dinners here often. The applewood smoked brisket is tasty and filling. Great burgers and sandwiches come with home cut fries or, my favorite, sweet potato fries with a chipotle mayo - yum! A busy place and worth the wait. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable. Last but not least - the desserts are to die for! Try the Greek yogurt cheesecake - nice and light with chopped nuts and honey. Key lime pie is the best Ive ever had anywhere!

Its about time a new contemporary restaurant concept opened in the Marina. The old Nichols ran its course. The new J.Nichols is smart, relevant, and will be around for the next 30 years! Hats off to the owner for making the change and stepping it up! The Bucatini and Meatballs is as good as it gets. They still have homemade meatloaf, but its much better! And the pancakes are same. Best in town. Oh, and try the English Muffins. Youll thank me.

Fantastic atmosphere and great food! I now have plenty of favorites on the menu (for breakfast the chicken chilaquiles are a delight!) but sometimes get outside my comfort zone and try the specials which are always a tasty treat.you keep me coming back!
